Car TalkThe Koenigsegg Jesko - The World's First 300mph Megacar by Mdaz(op): 8:44am On Mar 07, 2019
The new Koenigsegg Jesko is presented during the press day at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show Credit: Martial Trezzini/Keystone
The dying years of the internal combustion age will be remembered as a power and speed-crazed celebration of excess, with car makers competing to build the fastest and most powerful cars: the quickest around the Nurburgring test track in Germany; the first to lap Silverstone as fast as an F1 car; and, in Christian von Koenigsegg’s case, the first to pass the 300mph mark.

Born in Stockholm in 1972, von Koenigsegg succeeded where many have failed: he built his own supercar company to rival the big players. Founded in 1994, the first Koenigsegg was delivered in 2002 and the company has continued to independently develop clever and beautifully made cars ever since. Clever and beautifully made and very fast.

There will be 125 of the new Jesko made (price tag, a cool $3m), 85 of which have already been sold, according to the company. The car is reportedly capable of reaching 300mph - unimaginably fast when you consider F1 cars reach around 210mph and Le Mans sports cars around 240mph.

Then again, they are set up to go fast all the way around a track, the corners included, hence all the upside-down aeroplane wings that push them on the track, but generate enormous ‘drag’ also, which holds them back on the straights.

What you need are wings that pop themselves out of the way when you no longer need them, but ‘moveable aerodynamic aids’ are banned in racing. Not on road cars like the Jesko, however.

Since the 1980s, the speed record for a production car has crept up over 200mph. Christian von Koenigsegg’s cars have held the record twice; in 2004 with the CCR model at 241mph and since 2017 with the Agera RS at 277mph.

Nobody seems especially keen to beat that mark, but that’s not stopping von Koenigsegg wanting to put it beyond anyone with the Jesko.

Like any Koenigsegg, the Jesko is impressive, given the comparative scale of the company — especially if that comparison is with top-speed rival Bugatti which is a division of Volkswagen and was allowed to run at a staggering loss in its early days, just so long as VW had bragging rights.

Not that Bugatti/VW have had them in a while; they appear to be happy to let Koenigsegg fight it out with other independents for the title of world’s fastest car. The latest Bugatti is actually slower than some versions of its predecessor.

So what does the Jesko have that will allow it to keep accelerating where the Agera ran out? Two things; less drag and more power. The energy required to overcome drag increases to the power of three, the faster a car goes.

There are then two Jeskos; one that’s biased towards track use with more down force (and so more drag) and one that’s aimed at 300mph with less down force and less drag. And lots and lots of power.

Born in Stockholm in 1972, von Koenigsegg succeeded where many have failed: he built his own supercar company to rival the big players Credit: Stefan Wermuth/Bloomberg
In a world of expensive and complex hybrid engines — like in the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari, Porsche 918 and the recently announced Aston Martin Valkyrie — where an internal combustion engine is assisted by an electric motor, the engine in the Jesko is superficially old-school.

The engine block is from a Ford, but has been developed beyond recognition by von Koenigsegg and his engineers. Twin-turbocharged, it produces 1262bhp on standard super-unleaded.

That’s probably not enough for 300mph, but flush that out and refill with petrol/ethanol blend E85 and the Jesko’s output increases to 1578bhp and that might be. But take note, that’s more than two and a half times the output of the famous McLaren F1 which reached 221bhp in 1993.

Will the Jesko do it? Well if there’s one trait that has differentiated Koenigsegg from other supercar building wannabes is that when its 46-year-old founder says he’s going to do something, he usually does it.

Nairaland GeneralVictory Speech By President Muhammad Buhari by Mdaz(op): 8:35am On Feb 27, 2019
My Dear Nigerians,

First and foremost, I give thanks to Almighty God Who has spared our lives to witness another victory for Nigerian democracy and victory for our party APC.

2. I thank the millions of Nigerians who voted to re-elect me as your president for the next four years. I am deeply humbled and profoundly grateful to you for judging me worthy of continuing to serve you and for your peaceful conduct.

3. In particular, I would like to thank Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for his masterful leadership as Co-chair of the Campaign Council. I would like to also thank the Party Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, the Director General of the Campaign Council Rotimi Amaechi, all members of the Presidential Campaign Council and other various Support Groups.

4. My grateful thanks to all those who contributed to the logistical expenses of the campaign in such a vast country like Nigeria.

5. I also thank the millions of volunteers, self-appointed overseers, canvassers, agents, escorts and sentries who sacrificed so much of their time and resources to ensure the success of these elections. I do not have the words adequate to thank them.

6. Although Saturday’s elections were relatively peaceful, troublemakers in a handful of states attempted to disrupt an otherwise orderly process. Security agencies will bring to justice all those arrested in the process.

7. I am very sad at the grievous loss of lives during these elections. Security agencies will step up their efforts to protect voters in the forthcoming State elections.

8. I would like to commend our security agencies, as severely overstretched as they are, for handling the difficult task of securing the country during the election period.

9. I will like to make a special appeal to my supporters not to gloat or humiliate the opposition. Victory is enough reward for your efforts.

10. We give thanks also to our Domestic and International observers for contributing to the success of our elections and for their interest in our country and our developing democracy.

11. The new Administration will intensify its efforts in Security, Restructuring the Economy and Fighting Corruption. We have laid down the foundation and we are committed to seeing matters to the end. We will strive to strengthen our unity and inclusiveness so that no section or group will feel left behind or left out.

12. I thank you for your support and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

AN OPEN LETTER TO RT. HON CHIBUIKE ROTIMI AMAECHI BY SEN. MAGNUS ABE

Published on pages 45 and 43 of the Nation and Thisday Newspapers respectively.

Dear sir,
Many compliments. I know that in the course of our disagreement I have not had any chance to speak with you and I choose to do so now in the light of the many allegations you made against me in the presence of the National Chairman our party Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Alhaji Farouk Aliyu, a valuable friend and colleague His Excellency Alhaji Wammako, former Governor of Sokoto State, and Hon. Braimah Chief of Staff to the National Chairman.

Under normal circumstances my response would have been copied and delivered only to these four persons who were present at the meeting when the allegations were made, but unfortunately the allegations you made at the meeting are now been shared and posted as facts all over the media even when I was not given any opportunity to respond to them at the meeting. This goes to the root of fair hearing and I feel I should be heard.

A lot of what you said was nothing but purposeful slander. Since you released these information to the press I have no option than to make my response to the public.

Let me say that I am pained beyond measure in taking this decision but having yourself brought these issues before the public you leave me with no choice. I will constrain myself only to the issues you raised. However, should any more issues about my character be raised in the public space I will respond in like manner.

Sir, before I proceed let me repeat what I said at the meeting which were:

1. That I remain grateful to you for every support and act of friendship that you have shown towards me and my family.

2. That I did not and will not betray you in any way. My decision to run for Governor of our state , a position to which you are not aspiring and cannot aspire does not constitute a stab in the heart.

3. That in the course of our disagreement I have tried not to respond to all the public things that you have said about me or to show you disrespect. If however I have done so inadvertently in any way I am sorry, and I apologize.

4. Throughout our relationship I have also done my best to add value to your life and your politics in any way I reasonably could and I will continue to do so.

5. The party should decide how best to properly conduct a primary election in which I as a member of the party can stand a fair chance since you as the leader of the party in the state has chosen to work openly against me. Let me assure everyone that if that is done and a candidate emerges I will file behind the candidate of the party, and contribute my own quota.

6. In your response rather than deal with these issues you made the following allegations which in my humble opinion were totally irrelevant to the purpose of the meeting and intended only to tarnish my reputation. I will list the allegations and respond to them seriatim.

7. In responding to these allegations I will not introduce any new issues neither will I try to defend myself anymore than necessary because even if every thing you have said is true, it still does not answer the question that was at the heart of that meeting which is why I cannot be allowed to participate freely in the primaries of our party.

8. Let me now go to the issues as raised by you.

9. You said that I arranged for my associates to write a petition against you and your wife to the British Police. My response is that not only is this allegation against me false but you know it to be false. You had earlier told Governors Lalong and Bello that I , Magnus Abe wrote the petition against you to the British Police, so your modification of your earlier allegation to now say it was my associates is an acknowledgment that your earlier position is unsustainable. I have never and will never go that far whatever may be our issues, not just against you but against any other politician, neither will I allow anyone else to do it. If you have any evidence to the contrary please bring it forward and I will withdraw from the race.

10. You said I was not elected by the minority party in the house of assembly but rather Dr Odili asked you to go and choose your team and you chose me as Minority Leader and imposed me on the house. That is not true. I was elected as Minority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly by the minority caucus at the home of Chief Ebenezer Isokariari, our Governorship candidate in the presence of Prince Emma Anyanwu. Those who contested against me were Hon. Ben Horsefall, Hon Adokiye Oruwari, and Hon John Bazia. Luckily all these actors are still alive and you have their phone numbers for ease of reference. The PDP position which you referred to is of course false to your knowledge, because no one ran against me on the floor of the assembly as the records will show.

11. You said I did not win elections in Gokana, and that Chief Victor Giadom brought out a gun and stuck it to the head of the Electoral Officer and threatened to kill him before results were changed in my favour. This is laughable, the name of the E.O and his phone number is available you can call him to ask if any such incident ever took place. The issue in the Gokana election was that party leaders in some wards who promised the Youth Corpers refreshments deliberately refused to keep their word to the personnel even when they had the means to do so. In anger and frustration a lot of the corpers started changing results or mutilating results in favour of PDP chieftains who came to take advantage of the widespread anger among the electoral personnel. Even then the action was not significant and could not have affected the ultimate outcome.Yes Chief Giadom got there and called my attention to what was going on. This was the call for which I thanked Chief Giadom. It had nothing to do with guns and before he called me several people had already called my attention to this deliberate sabotage by some of our party leaders. It is not surprising that these are the same persons that are opposed to me today.

12. You said I am a serial betrayer and I betrayed Chinwe Aguma, our late Attorney- General who was buried just a week previous to this meeting, and you also cited the case of someone standing trial for what happened during my elections that has been abandoned by me. Both stories are also false to your knowledge. For one the trial relates to an incident that occurred in Port Harcourt outside my senatorial district and it is not election related. For the other I was shocked that you could drag the name and memory of a friend who just so recently passed away into the midst of our party politics. However you said they should ask Igo Aguma his younger brother who is with you and who told you that I betrayed Late Chinwe. I will supply the phone number of Hon Igo Aguma for anyone to call him and ask Igo to give the details and particulars of this betrayal for public consumption. Till that happens I will respect the memory of my late friend and hold my peace. Chinwe was never a pretender, and no one could have used him to settle their personal political score if he was alive.

13. You said I deceived you into appointing Mr. Derek Mene as Executive Director in NDDC. I did not deceive you. I merely reminded you of the promise you made to me that in the event of an APC victory in 2015 that my interest in the national government will be placed above every other interest in Rivers state including your own interest. That clearly has not been the case. It was when I reminded you of that promise that you conceded to the appointment of Mr. Mene. I do not see how making an effort to keep a promise you made voluntarily and without preconditions can be said to be deceit.

14. You said I am working with Governor Nyesom Wike against the party and you mentioned two things to buttress your allegation. First, you said that when people went to court to protest against the High Court ruling in the case filed by disenfranchised party members in Rivers state, Governor Wike brought the Judge to the court in his car and stood behind the judge while the ruling was delivered. You quoted two senior police officers as your witnesses.
This of course is a lie.

15. You also said that Hon. Mpigi told you that Governor Wike gave me 34 million naira for my thanksgiving. This also is a lie from the pit of hell. I invited Governor Wike to my thanksgiving service for two reasons, one was because you chose to host a parallel event against me on the same day and second because I am Anglican and my Archbishop who was to preside at the service called me and asked me in the name of God to forgive the Governor and invite him. Wike did not give me a Kobo to host the event and I have never received 34 million naira from Wike. I am convinced that even at the time you were saying that, you knew that was not true. Governor Wike did not give you any money to host the Free Rivers event in Bori the headquarters of Ogoniland on the day I was holding my thanksgiving, neither did Wike take the decision to disenfranchise party members and refuse nomination forms to party members who paid money to the party to contest for positions in the congresses. To continually drag Wike’s name to the crisis created by deliberate acts of injustice to others, is nothing but a cheap smear campaign. It will surely fail.

16. I was particularly sad when you told the National Chairman that I cornered all NDDC contracts in Rivers state. All contracts in NDDC are approved by the MD who is your friend. I have not cornered any contract at all from the Commission. It is on record that simple courtesies and favours extended to Niger Delta Senators including PDP Senators are not extended to me. The only issue you have with the NDDC is the fact that Mr Mene refused to lead the campaign against me in Ogoniland despite all threats and intimidation including the threat to hand him over to the EFCC.

17. You said I deceived you into sacking Mrs Ibim Seminitari so I could appoint Mr Mene. This is of course a chronological impossibility. I was one of the defenders of Mrs Seminatari even in our meetings and the issue of Mr Mene did not come up until the new board was to be set up. In other words Mrs Seminitari was sacked by the decision to set up a new board.

18. You said I am only a friend to power and I only followed you because you were powerful. Time will tell, because it is in the nature of power to move. So one day we will either leave power or power will leave us, then we will know those who follow us because we have power. When we started our political journey you did not have the power you have today. I can still remember several times when it was just me and you together during your battle to be Governor, and even more so when you we were fighting the power of Jonathan. If I was only a friend to power as you claim today, I would have moved on long ago. I have tried to live by some rules that is why I have decided to contest for the Governorship of our state even under this very difficult circumstances and against your stated decision.

19. You said Chief Victor Giadom told you that I did not support you when you were the court fighting for your mandate and you named some Ogoni leaders as those who came to tell you that the Ogoni people are not with me. I will refrain from mentioning their names here but you may make their names public if indeed they told you so. Please believe whatever is convenient for you today. It will not change anything.

20. Finally, I have tried to go over everything you said about me including the fact that if the story of my life is in ten chapters, you will occupy six of it. My challenge is that even if you said is true, I still cannot find the stab in the heart to which you kept making reference that necessitated this bitter war in the party. The only thing I can find is the fact that I insisted on my right to contest for the ticket of our party against your stated desire. In my humble opinion, that action does not constitute a stab in the heart of any true democratic leader.

I remain yours faithfully,
Magnus Abe.

Nairaland GeneralSkye Bank Collapse Facts by Mdaz(op): 5:43am On Sep 27, 2018
Just 4 individuals/entities sent Skye Bank to the grave - through insider loans. They're:
1. Tunde Ayeni (former boss of the bank): 89.4 billion naira (used to acquire Ibadan and Yola Discos, and Nitel), 29.5 billion discovered in suspense account linked to him, 6.8 million dollars diverted into his law firm.

2. Festus Fadeyi (his son as a non-executive director of the bank): 616 million dollars (#191 billion) for his company, Pan Ocean.

3. Jide Omokore: #110billion: for AEDC (#56billion), Cedar Oil/Gas (#22billion), Real Banc Ltd (#31billion).

4. Forte Oil: #11.6billion.

Now, the CBN has coughed out #1.4trillion taxpayers' monies (the majority of whom cannot even assess basic loans for start-ups from the same bank) to bail out the bank, and the criminals are living large.

Science/TechnologyRe: Types Of Solar Inverter In Nigeria And Their Prices (Photos) by Mdaz(m): 10:39am On Jul 25, 2018
LatestNews180:
Due to the epileptic power supply in Nigeria, solar energy has been a recommended alternative source of electricity.

Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. For efficiency and efficacy, however, long-lasting solar power systems require a high-quality inverter with a robust convention cooling system.

So, what exactly are these solar Inverters?

Solar inverters are technologies that convert the variable direct current (DC) output of a photovoltaic solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current (AC), which can be inputted into an electrical grid or used by a local electrical network.

Solar inverter forms the balance of system (BOS), which is a core component in a photovoltaic system, therefore allowing the use of ordinary AC-powered equipment.

Sit back and read through this piece as I reveal to you various types of solar inverters in Nigeria — alongside their specs and prices.

The Nigeria market is currently equipped with three major types of solar inverters.

Each one of them, however, has different specifications even though they perform the same function. Also, they have different working principles but achieve the same goal. The types or classifications include:

Stand-alone Inverters/Off Grid Inverter: This is an electrical inverter that converts DC power stored in batteries to AC power that can be utilized based on need. Normally, Stand-alone inverters usually come in sizes from 100watts to 8000watts. The minimum can be used to power notebook computers and fax machines when affixed to your car while the maximum can be used for powering an entire house or small commercial operations.

Grid-tie Inverter: An electrical inverter which is associated with the grid can be said to be a grid-tie inverter. How does it work? It works by feeding power from or to the electricity grid by corresponding phase and frequency. Do you know the beauty of these inverters? They are designed to automatically shut down once they sense a loss of supply from the utility. Grid-tie Inverters are used between local electrical power generators like the solar panel, wind turbine, hydroelectric, and grid.

Battery Backup Inverter: These special types of inverters are particularly designed to draw energy from a battery. The charge of the battery is, however, preserved by using an onboard charger, and an additional energy is transferred to the utility grid. These types of inverters have the ability to provide AC Power to particular loads during power shortages. In addition, they are also equipped with anti-islanding function.

Micro Inverter: These are the latest inverters in the solar industry. They are small, compact, and portable with a wide spectrum of performance. On a general note, they include a single solar module that generates DC to be converted to AC.

Solar Inverters Price List in Nigeria

Looking at the wide varieties of solar inverters on the market, I deem it fit to give the specifications of some of them in order to guide you in making the right choice. As I stated earlier, they have different specifications but perform the same function in a different fashion.
