Between Adeosun’s Forged NYSC Certificate and Ayodele James’ Fake ICAN Certificate

The reader is probably asking, “Who in the world is Ayodele James?” Well, Lebi-Ayodele James made headlines on July 13 when an Abuja High Court sentenced him to a two-year jail term—and asked him to refund N100,000 to the government in restitution—for forging an Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) certificate, a coveted professional license for accountants.

He was convicted of “forgery of certificate contrary to section 25(1)(a) and punishable under section 25(1)(b) of the ICPC Act 2000 and being in possession of a forged document contrary to section 368 of the Penal code CAP 532, Laws of the FCT Nigeria 2006.” He was also convicted of parlaying his forged ICAN certificate into getting a promotion at the office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.

This would have been an unremarkable, run-off-the-mill fraud case had it not come to light a little over a week after Premium Times reported that Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun forged an NYSC exemption certificate she isn’t entitled to have, and for which she has faced no consequences. By Nigerian law, Adesoun has committed at least two offenses: failure to participate in the NYSC scheme after claiming her Nigerian citizenship (since she got her bachelor’s degree before the age of 30) and forgery. She should also be prosecuted and thrown into jail like James.

James’ ICAN certificate forgery and Adeosun’s NYSC exemption certificate forgery bear many striking similarities. James owed his position as a “senior auditor” in the office of the Auditor-General of the Federation to his forged ICAN certificate. His degree, without ICAN certification, had earned him the position of an “executive officer” at the office.

Like James, Adeosun owes her current job to her forged NYSC exemption certificate since the act that established the NYSC says, “[…] it is illegal to hire a person who graduated but failed to make himself or herself available to serve, or falsify any document to the effect that he or she has served or exempted from serving.”  Although Adeosun was born in the UK, she is now a Nigerian citizen and is obligated by law to participate in the one-year national youth service scheme. It is the legal precondition for her previous and current employment in Nigeria.

The Abuja high court judge who sentenced James to two years in prison without an option of fine lamented that had James’ forgery not been discovered, he could have risen to the position of Accountant-General of the Federation “in the nearest future.” You would think the judge was visualizing the unthinkable.

But Adeosun forged an NYSC certificate “in the present,” has willfully refused to acknowledge the forgery, and is still a minister. As I pointed out last week, a Louis Edozien whose credentials were found to be forged after an audit in 2014—and fired as a consequence—is now the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, Nigeria’s biggest  ministry. And Okoi Obono-Obla, Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigative Panel for the Recovery of Property, was discovered to have fudged his WASC to gain admission to study law at the University. He hasn’t lost his job. So the judge’s lamentation about a bleak future he averted is insensitive to the blight of forgery in the present.

What has become clear in all of this is that in Buhari’s Nigeria, justice isn’t blind. Its blindfolds are off; it is a love-struck beholder of the president and people in the president’s good graces. The “wrath” of justice is reserved only for the poor, the vulnerable, the uninfluential, and political opponents; in short everyone outside the orbit of the reigning power structure. It is unvarnished and unpretentious in its invidiousness and double standard.

But let this be known: No nation that punishes its poor and protects its powerful for the same offense can endure. Shehu Usman Dan Fodio was right when he said, “A kingdom can endure with unbelief, but it cannot endure with injustice.” Before him, Aristotle said, “The only stable state is the one in which all men are equal before the law.”

For every second that James remains in jail while Adeosun, Edozien, and Obono-Obla not only walk free but live off the fat of the land even when they committed the same offense as he, the very foundation of Nigeria chips off. A nation whose foundation comes off piecemeal as a result of blatant, in-your-face judicial double standard will sooner or later give way. That was what Frederick Douglass meant when he said, “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe.”

This government has adopted a policy of willfully pigheaded silence and insouciance when it is confronted with momentously indefensible scandals. It hopes that the legendary collective amnesia and forgiving spirit of Nigerians where infractions concern people at the upper end of the social scale would conspire with its “silent treatment” strategy to cause the scandals to taper off. But this strategy will soon wear off and the pent-up anger people have been suppressing will burst forth. It’s only a matter of time.

Either we have laws or we don’t. There is no twilight zone. If the law no longer matters, let everyone who violated the law be free. Let James be free. Let no one go to jail or pay a fine for offenses for which other people don’t even as much as get a slap on the wrist. If Buhari wants to run his government on the principles of lawlessness, he should codify this so that we would have no expectations.

In my August 6, 2016 column titled “Nigeria as a Perverse Anarchist Paradise,” I pointed out that given the absence of government in people’s everyday lives, “we might as well formalize anarchism… as our system of government” and concluded that “the stark, unsettling truth is that ordinary Nigerians have no need for government, and government has no reason to exist. The only reason government exists in Nigeria now, it would seem, is to supervise the dispensation of our national patrimony to the ruling elite and to pauperize an already traumatized and dispossessed citizenry.”

This is now truer today than it was in 2016. Nevertheless, for as long as Nigeria makes pretense to having laws, henceforth, every certificate forgery that is punished with imprisonment will always remind Nigerians of government’s criminal and hypocritical silence over the forgeries of Adeosun, Obono-Obla, Edozien, and other favored forgers.

Nairaland General3rd Mainland Suicide Full Details by Mdaz(op): 2:58pm On Jun 11, 2018
She's US based, married with 3 kids. She lives in Texas. Her husband is Tunde who works or used to work with Access Bank in Lagos. She got involved with another guy in Nigeria and they both got involved in series of adulterous activities. Her lover, an older guy as well swindled or collected over N10m from her.
She went to arrest him only for him to publish nude pictures of them together in order to prove his innocence to the Police that whatever happened between both of them was consensual, that he's not a fraudster as claimed by the married woman. The blackmail from the man got to her husband and this compelled the husband to conduct a DNA test on all his 3 children which later turned out that they are not all his kids after all. Those kids belong to someone else. On Saturday, 9th of June, 2018, the woman drove her truck to the bridge, parked her Ford SUV van on the 3rd Mainland Bridge and jumped inside the lagoon on a suicide mission which is a resultant effect of the blackmail. Bad market/bad business/dirty game. She's gone and the kids are left in the hands of strangers to be taken care of. Lesson to learn.

Stay tune for all the pictures and the video clips of their sex escapades. Our kids must learn from this.

Nairaland GeneralThe Untold Story Of Chief S.T. Oredein, A Political Godfather by Mdaz(op): 2:25pm On Jun 09, 2018
The Untold Story of Chief S.T. Oredein, a Political Godfather Who Became a Robbery Kingpin.

There was no one in Western Nigeria who did not know S. T. Oredein. If there was such a person, he must have just arrived from Planet Jupiter. Chief Samuel Taiwo Oredein was not just a politician. He was politics personified. He was a kingmaker. He was a godfather. In fact, he was the Big Boss.

Oredein belonged to the exclusive club of the seven people who partnered with Chief Obafemi Awolowo to establish the Action Group which became the party that produced the first premier of the region. You don’t know the other founders? I will tell you. They are: Abiodun Akerele, Ade Akinsanya, J. O. Adigun, S. O. Shonibare, Ayo Akinsanya, and Olatunji Dosunmu.

Founders of the Action Group

ST did not hold a cabinet position. He was however more powerful than some Ministers of government. He was the Principal Organising Secretary of the Action Group in the First Republic. It is on record that ST had legal authority to issue query to Ministers and chairmen of government’s statutory corporations. It was Chief Oredein that broke the news of Segun's death to Chief Awolowo.

As an acclaimed authority on political moblisation, he also wrote a book. He was the author of A Manual on Action Group Party Organisation. It was published in 1955.

When the news broke in 1971 of his involvement in a case of armed robbery, it was greeted with shock and unbelief. It must have been a mistake, people thought. Or could it have been a political frame up?
.

On April 13, 1971, Nigerians woke up to hear the news of an armed robbery attack on Bacita Road. Bacita is a small town in Kwara State. It used to be a very popular town in the past. It is the location of Nigerian Sugar Company. When the company was established in 1964, it was the first integrated sugar factory in Nigeria. The town even has an airstrip.

The armed robbery attack was as daring as it was audacious. It was carried out with military precision. Two officers of Barclays Bank and two policemen who were in the vehicles that were attacked by the armed robbers were seriously wounded. One of the wounded persons later died of his injuries at the hospital. (And in case you are wondering what happened to the then Barclays Bank, it is the bank that became our present day Union Bank of Nigeria Plc.)

At the end of the ‘operation’, the armed robbers went away with a box containing thirteen thousand pounds. That was a lot of money in 1971. Chief Awolowo was then the Finance Minister and with his prudent management of Nigerian economy, our pound was almost at par with the British pound.

Barclays Bank BuildingMr. Kam Salem was the Inspector General of Police at the time. The Kam Salem House on Moloney Street, Obalende, Lagos is named after him. He directed all police formations across the country to fish out those behind the attack. The police spread its dragnet and within days of the robbery, Felix Dumeh, the leader of the gang was arrested. Nigerians jubilated when they heard the news.

Felix did not make any attempt to deny being the ringleader. He promised to cooperate with the police. He told his interrogators that although he was the leader of the gang, he was not the real brain behind the daring raid. Felix must have at some point in his life aspired to be a musician. He began to sing like a canary. He started to mention names.

The investigators listened in shock as Felix began to mention one name after another. He was not mentioning names of common criminals that the police officers were familiar with. The names of people he mentioned as his backers, protectors and shareholders were names of people you only read about in newspapers.

The first person he mentioned was a Chief Superintendent of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ibadan, Patrick Njovens. The interrogators opened their mouth in wonder. Felix threw another bomb when he mentioned Mr. Yesufu Bello, an Assistant Superintendent of Police also of CID, Ibadan. The third person he listed as his backer was Amusa Abidogun, a Chief Inspector of Police stationed in Ibadan.

The investigators thought they had heard everything. They didn’t know that egun nla ni o n kehin igbale. It is the biggest masquerade that is the last to come out of the grove. Then Felix spoke again. The name came out in a whisper. It was the name they were all familiar with. I have already told you that there was no one in the Western Region that did not know High Chief Oredein.

Iya Agba, my grandmother, used to tell me that when a child’s net catches a tilapia, the child eats it alone. But when the net catches a shark, the child must run to his father. The investigators knew immediately that this was not a tilapia. The fish they were looking at was nothing but a shark. They went to brief their superior.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police was Mr. Sunday Adewusi. He was later to serve as the Inspector General of Police between 1981 and 1983. Ha! You remember him? He was the IGP when Alhaji Shehu Shagari was the President.

Mr. Adewusi sent his officers to Ibadan Command to investigate the matter. On getting to Ibadan, Adewusi’s officers were arrested by the three senior police officers they were sent to arrest! You are saying “Haba!” The hunters became the hunted. The Ilorin officers were later thrown out of the station! They were warned never to come to Ibadan again.

The three senior officers however didn’t reckon with Adewusi’s tenacity. He came back and got the three of them arrested. He took them to Ilorin. He also invited Chief Oredein for a 'chat'.

Chief Oredein arrived at the Police Command in a grand style. He came to Ilorin in his Mercedes car with its unique plate number: WR 6666. He expected it to be a brief meeting. He had engagements later that day in Ibadan and he had promised to be back at his base before nightfall.

Unknown to ST, the police had done their homework thoroughly. They had painstakingly investigated the case and gathered relevant evidence and related materials before inviting the political godfather. One of the people that the police met in the course of their investigation was Mustapha Adigun who was popularly called Balewa. He got the nickname from the abbreviation of his first name, Tafa! But he was never a Prime Minister. He was also called Tafa Igiripa by some people.

Adigun claimed that Oredein was his boss during the days of politics when he (Adigun) was the head of ST’s political boys. He informed the police that in the evening of the day of the armed robbery attack, he went with his boss to the house of Felix Dumeh. In addition to his boss, the three police officers mentioned by Felix were also present. I am not sure they were wearing police uniforms for that special assignment.

Felix was said to have brought out a bottle of schnapps and some pieces of alligator pepper. He opened the bottle and poured a little quantity on the floor and also threw some alligator pepper on the floor. Like a Chief Priest, Felix then raised the bottle of the alcoholic drink and said: “this thing wey tin we dey do, God make it no let it prove.” They all chorused amen to the solemn prayers. Felix then drank out of the bottle and chewed one alligator pepper. The four of them also drank out of the bottle and chewed alligator pepper.

Oath taking and prayers completed, Felix went to bring a brown paper bag. It was the size of a carton. He gave it to Oredein. ST was about to open the carton when Amusa Abidogun, the Chief Inspector of Police snatched it from him. Abidogun passed the carton to his superior officer Njovens, with a smart police salute. You know seniority is important in the Force. It was the Chief Superintendent of Police who finally opened the paper bag. It was full of currency.

Njovens looked suspiciously at the carton, his eyes made a mental calculation of the total sum. “How much?” He asked. Felix raised his spread left palm before saying “Five.” The senior police officer shook his head. “Is that the arrangement? Before, the arrangement was seven” Felix began to fidget. “The boys are too many on it.” Well, half a loaf of bread was still bread. Five or Seven, Njovens was not one to reject money. Akosapo la n ko owo. The proper way to reject money is to put it in your pocket, as Iya Agba used to say.

Oredein was stunned when he arrived at the police headquarters to meet both Adigun and Felix. Commissioner Adewusi asked them to repeat what they told the police. They did. In the presence of Oredein, Felix confirmed Adigun’s statement that it was Oredein that first received the carton of money from him before Abidogun snatched it from him.

The former Principal Organising Secretary of the Action Group looked blankly at Felix. With a straight face and a deadpan expression, he denied knowing Felix or ever visiting his house. Njovens, Bello and Abidogun also made feeble attempts to deny knowing Felix. Later they started to beg the future IGP to assist them because it was the devil that actually used them to collect the money. “Ise asetani ni. Mo fi Anabi ati Jesu Krisiti beyin!” That was from Alhaji Amusa Abidogun, the Chief Inspector. He offered to return part of his own share.

Sample of Nigerian One Pound Note. It was introduced in 1968Chief Oredein, the master strategist, realized that the cards were stacked against him. He checked his sleeve to see whether he had an ace he could use. He found none. It was then he reluctantly admitted that all that Adigun who was also known as Tafa Igiripa said was correct. However, the Chief denied that the money was in one-pound denomination as stated by Adigun. Adigun maintained his stand. Finally, ST nodded his head that the money was actually in one-pound denomination. Reverse Side of Nigerian One Pound Note. It was withdrawn in 1973.

It was over the radio that people heard the news. Chief Oredein had been arrested and would be arraigned in Court for armed robbery! Armed robbery! It must have been a case of mistaken identity. It could not have been the Chief S. T. Oredein that they knew. Armed robbery! Ki lo pa alaso funfun ati alaro po? What could have been the connection with the owner of a white cloth and a dyer?

In truth, Chief Oredein was not a poor man by any standard. Everybody knew he was a man of means. Ohun ti a ko mo ni a ko mo, eni ti o ba ti ri oyun oyinbo ti mo pe omo pupa ni o ma fi bi. It is a well known fact that the product of a white woman's pregnancy would always be fair in complexion. Between 1942 and 1962, Chief Oredein had erected six buildings. And mind you, we are not talking of four-bedroom ‘boys quarters’ in a village o! We are talking of real buildings in strategic locations. Four of the houses were at Ibadan. He built one at Oshodi. The sixth building was in a prime area in Ikeja.

What of automobiles? ST had a total of nine vehicles, including cars and lorries for both his business and personal use. He was not only sagacious on the political field. He was also productive in the other room. He was blessed with more than 30 children.

Finally the day of the trial arrived. People had travelled all the way from Lagos, Ibadan and Ogere to Ilorin to confirm whether it was truly the Chief Oredein that was arrested. To the surprise of many of his supporters and friends, it was the author of the book on political organisation himself that was brought to court.

ST was arraigned alongside the three senior police officers. They were charged with abetting the commission of a robbery and of receiving stolen property as well as offence of harbouring known offenders. In other words, they were charged with receiving 5,000 pounds from the armed robbers in order to screen them from legal punishment for the offence.

It was a criminal trial like no other. It was a battle of giants. Chief Oredein and Patrick Njovens briefed Chief Rotimi Williams to appear for them. Bello and Abidogun retained the services of Mr. Richard Akinjide. The prosecution was led by the Director of Public Prosecutions for Kwara State, Mr. Anthony Ekundayo. The three senior lawyers proved their mettle.

The trial judge was a relatively young judge, having been appointed to the Bench only two years before the trial. However, what My Lord Justice Moradeyo Adesiyun lacked in age, His Lordship made up with uncommon brilliance and exemplary courage.

At the trial, Chief Oredein testified that on the day of the robbery he was at his hometown, Ogere having left Ibadan around 6.30pm on that day and only came back to Ibadan the following day. He admitted that it was true that Adewusi confronted him on May 26 with Felix Dumeh but he stated that he denied there and then the allegations of Dumeh. His principal witness was his solicitor who claimed that he was with Chief on April 13 from about 3pm to 11pm. Chief also called an Imam and a farmer as his witnesses. They all testified that he was at Ogere on the evening of April 13.

The trial was not only being conducted in the courtroom. From Ilorin to Ibadan, From Lagos to Enugu, From Port Harcourt to Ile-Ife, people were also busy conducting their own versions of the trial. Would the young judge be able to convict ST if he was found guilty? Would AG leaders allow their former colleague to go to prison for robbery?

When His Lordship adjourned the matter to December 28, 1971 for judgment, speculations began afresh. It was said that it was to enable the judge to release the accused before the end of the year. Some said that thanksgiving services had been planned to coincide with the New Year. All Nigerians waited with bated breath for the judgment day.

Finally, the day arrived. It was a Tuesday. It was three days after Christmas and three days before the New Year.

The four accused persons were brought to the Court in a Black Maria. If ST felt any apprehension, it was not apparent. As he was led to the court, Oredein gave the sign of victory to the crowd of spectators who had come from far and near to hear the verdict. It was a good sign. It was a sign of victory. His people became happy.

Hon. Justice Moradeyo Adesiyun began by reviewing the charges against the four of them. His Lordship extensively analysed and appraised the evidence. When His Lordship noted the fact that the accused were not at the scene of the crime, Oredein turned to smile at the people in the courtroom. He would soon be on his way home.

Then came the moment. His Lordship found that though the accused persons were not physically present at the scene of the armed robbery, they had prior knowledge of the robbery before it took place and that the three of them who were police officers did nothing to prevent the robbery. His Lordship also found that they all received proceeds of the robbery.

Justice Adesiyun therefore came to the conclusion that the accused persons were guilty of the charges against them.

Chief Oredein could not believe his ears. Guilty as charged? He was not going to be free? His native cap which he had been holding, in deference to the authority of the court, clattered to the floor with a thud. The High Chief from Ogere Remo stood still as if he was Opa Oranmiyan in Ile-Ife. It was Yesufu Bello who was standing beside him that nudged him back to reality. “Chief, 'they' are asking if you have anything to say.”

Oredein had not prepared any allocutus. He had not expected to be convicted. Ko si eni ti o gbe oju fifo le adiye ori aba. Who could have imagined that a mother hen would fly off from her hatchery? You don't know allocutus? It is another Latin word they taught us in Law School. It is a statement made by a defendant who has been found guilty before he is sentenced. It is like 'A beg, tamper justice with mercy' that a Lagos bus driver would tell you after breaking the side mirror of your Range Rover.

Allocutus or no allocutus, something must be said. The court had only convicted, His Lordship had not yet pronounced their sentences. Perhaps something could still be done. His eyes scanned the crowded courtroom. It appeared he was looking for someone or something. Whatever he was looking for was not in the court. He turned back to His Lordship.

Oredein pleaded for leniency. In a very moving voice, he informed the court of his past travails: “First it was the treasonable felony and conspiracy trial, but I was acquitted at the Supreme Court. Second, the Aberenla murder trial came, and I was in custody for 11 months before I was freed at Ijebu-Ode High Court. I humbly plead for Your Lordship’s forgiveness.”

Of course you know the treasonable felony trial the Chief referred to. The Aberenla trial he mentioned was the case over the murder of Ogunkoya Aberenla who was the Leader of Ogere Remo's branch of Nigerian National Democratic Party of Chief Ladoke Akintola (Not to be confused with the party of the same name established by Herbert Macaulay in 1922). Aberenla's body was never found. Onigegewura will write about his mysterious disappearance soon.

Justice Adesiyun looked at the accused persons. “If you had any conscience, you should drop your heads in shame.” His Lordship observed that they were lucky not to have been caught by the amendment to the Robbery and Firearms Decree which provided death by public execution for convicted armed robbers and those found to have aided and abetted armed robbery.

His Lordship therefore sentenced each of them to life imprisonment. There was no Federal Court of Appeal in those days. It was only Western State that had a Court of Appeal and Kwara was not part of Western State.

The four of them ran all the way to the Supreme Court.

On May 3, 1973, the Supreme Court delivered its judgment. My Lord Justice Coker who delivered the judgment of the apex court dismissed the appeal of all the convicted persons and affirmed the life sentences imposed on them by the trial court.

Chief Rotimi Williams later became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Mr. Richard Akinjide became a Chief, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and Attorney General of the Federation. Mr. Anthony Ekundayo, the DPP, was elevated to the Bench as a Justice of the High Court of Kwara State. The trial Judge, My Lord Adesiyun was also elevated. His Lordship served as the Chief Judge of Benue State from 1976 until his retirement in 1985.

This article is designed for those who wish to become Muslim; as to what would be their benefits after accepting Islam. It should be stated here that we are not trying to entice people to become Muslim, nor are we trying to convert them into the fold of Islam. Any person who wishes to become a Muslim should recognize that he or she will get all these benefits and much more. However, he or she should realize that they have to earn them by practicing the teachings of Islam. Implementing the practice of Islamic teachings is as important as believing.

Nigeria Government and waste

Why President Buhari got a VIP Invite to White House
Nigeria Donated Cash to the United States on Aircraft Purchase

To ,many Nigerians, the recent VIP invitation extended to President Buhari by the President Trump was a recognition of Nigeria's leadership role in the continental Africa and a way to
further develop a bilateral relationship between the two countries.
But reason for that VIP urgent invitation nonetheless has no connection to the above reasoning as
alluded to by a columnist in the New York Post of today May 1st 2018. The short but very
obscured write up actually caught my attention because its says "Nigeria" hence I decided to
quickly read it.
The columnist was praising President Trump's dodged business acumen and wizardry in getting
Nigerian Government to over pay for the Purchase of 12 Military Aircraft from the United States
at a whopping cost of $600 Million dollars. The Columnist cited the confirmation of the
remittance of the sum of $465 Million dollars into the United States Treasury by the Central
Bank of Nigeria on behalf of the Federal Government for the Purchase of these Aircraft as
something that generated huge interest by Mr Potus hence he immediately requested President
Buhari to visit White House and lined up more over bloated contracts for the US Companies for
Nigeria since Nigeria is so rich to dish out free money in over-spending for a Military Aircraft.
Mr. Potus is obviously a businessman with niche for cutting deals and making huge advantage
over predators business partners. He was amazed that Nigeria could pay so much money to
acquire those 12 Aircraft without adequate negotiation and just simply wire CASH to the US for
a machine and Aircraft that US does not even manufacture.
As an Economist and someone in the finance field, I have reason to worry about such a
development which has become another problem in Nigeria. The syndrome of Contract and
Project over bloating and ridicule cost expenditure in Nigeria compare to other places. This is
precisely what has transpired in the purchase of this Military Aircraft unknown to many
Nigerians. Mr. Potus immediately invited President Buhari as Businessman and as a Philosopher
of American FIRST project. The Contract for the Military Aircraft was signed off since the US is
smiling to the Bank for excess profits from over payment from Nigeria and they immediately
lined up several other projects for other US Companies that want a piece of the action from
Nigeria - Agric, , Power, Railway are projects included in the details of the White House
meeting between the two Presidents. See details in the link below:
https://www.naija.ng/1166906-president-buhari-sends-important-message-nigerian-youths-issuespromise.html?source=notification#1166906
Again, this dimension instigated my curiosity and I decided to spend the night to conduct a
research and find out why the NY Post Columnist insinuated that Nigeria Government is
wasteful and imprudent. Why did the Columnist just concluded that the Nigerian Government
spent money wastefully and why did he come to the conclusion that proper negotiation and right
prices were not paid by Nigeria for the acquisition of those Aircraft. He thought it was a blind
transaction for Nigeria and a huge win for Mr. Potus for his American FIRST campaign slogan.
What I discovered was mind- bugling and intriguing. It did not actually make any sense to me as
well and I thought I should share my ignorance and docility with other Nigerians especially those of us in the Diasporas. What I have discovered does not make any economic sense and it’s yet
unknown who in the Nigeria Government circles negotiated or took the decision to overpay by
so much margin to acquire those Aircraft from the United States for a product US itself do not
produce in the first place.
I have personally expressed frustration or perhaps most of us have at various times expressed
outrage on how the Government circles in Nigeria has distrusted the capacities of its vibrant and
highly knowledgeable Diaspora population to get things done. Nigeria Government seldom or
very sparsely involved its Diaspora in the process of getting project negotiated or acquired
around the world. This is what most smart countries does, working with their in- country
Diasporans to obtain firsthand information that assist in negotiation and getting to know facts
and hiding details in dealing with foreign Vendors, Contractors and Project-Companies and even
dealing with Government to Government businesses. In Nigeria, its Diasporas are treated with so
much distrust, disdain and carry no valuable respect from the Governments in Nigeria. Forget
that the Diaspora remits an average of over $20 Billion dollar annually to Nigeria which
incidentally is almost equal to the total Federal Government Budget in any given year. The 2018
total Federal Government Budget of Naira 8.2 Trillion is just $26 Billion dollars.
Now let us revert to the issue of the Aircraft purchase and why the Columnist instigated my
thought processes. Unknown to most of us, the fact that Nigeria Government agreed to pay a
whopping sum of $600 dollars to acquire 12 of these Aircrafts -The Embraer EMB 314 Super
Tucano or A-29 Aircraft as rebranded by the United States companies was the major reason why
Mr. Potus invited President Buhari to the White House to enable him get more over bloated contracts
and projects from Nigeria to enable him find money to build the walls along the US-Mexico
borderline or to compliment his American FIRST projects. Who is this Country so rich to offer Free
Money to the United States………they surely must deserve our attention. That’s the deal here!
From research and investigation online, those Aircraft never cost so much money Nigeria just spent
on it. It is even very curious why Nigeria may have chosen to purchase the Aircraft from the US
when the machine itself is not produced by the United States. Of course, some US companies have
signed several acquisition agreements with the original manufacturer to retool the Aircraft and re
brand it, but the US Government actually purchased these Aircraft itself with contract to upgrade its
reconnaissance and agility capacities to withstand the tough terrain in the war in Afghanistan.
Now let take a look at the facts and the reality surrounding this project to determine why anybody in
Nigeria will think this is a good deal for the Nigerian Government or the Nigerian people in all
ramifications. Let us assume the Government of Nigeria was relatively under severe pressure to
acquire these Aircraft in view of the recent disastrous nationwide insecurity in Nigeria, the
perspective of the transaction expenditure is still not justifiable in terms what the Nigeria Government
paid for the 12 Aircrafts we should have gotten some few for Free in the first place.
1. The Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano is a product of Brazil. Everyone looks on to Brazil to
purchase or acquire this Aircraft. Of course like any other military hardware and Machine, most
countries will also customize the original equipment and fitted it with additional tactical tools and
mechanism to suit their individual use. For instance, the US Military acquired these Aircraft from
Brazil and re-fitted it to suit it operations in Afghanistan. It is not an Aircraft the US Military will ever
need within its territory so, much of the Aircrafts purchased by the US Government were actually
deployed for foreign operations and mostly as gifts on bilateral recognitions.
2. Research showed that virtually every other country that have acquired or purchased these Aircraft
have approached Brazil, its original manufacturer to cut good deals and buy the equipment. The
salient and pertinent question is why did Nigeria decided to acquire its own from the United States
and at the end at an outrageously expensive prices?.

3. Here is the table of some few Countries around the World that have at various times acquired or
purchased this same Aircraft from Brazil and the prices paid for the Aircraft compare to what Nigeria
just recently paid to the United States to purchase the same equipment:
PURCHASED
FROM
COUNTRIES NUMBER

Brazil Guatemala 6 $166 Million 2011-2013
Brazil Angola 6 $170 Million 2013
Brazil Burkina Faso 3 $107 Million 2013
Brazil Ghana 5 $88 Million 2015
USA Nigeria 12 $600 Million 2018
Sources: Wikipedia
It is very clear from the above what the NY Post Columnist was alluding to and why he considered
Nigeria a wasteful Nation. These figures are just on the surface. We do not know what actually led to
the decision to approach the United States to purchase these Aircraft which with all intent and
purpose may be cheaper if the equipment has been acquired directly from the Manufacturer Brazil
instead of the US.
If Ghana is reported to have purchased 5 of this same Aircraft in 2015 for the sum of $88 Million,
then who actually negotiated the Nigerian transaction for 12 Aircraft at the whopping sum of $600
Million. If you do the maths, at the average cost per each Aircraft, the price paid by Ghana would
have given Nigeria 34 Aircraft instead of 12. The question is whoever negotiated this transaction
from the Nigerian side may not have done a good research or conduct critical market research to get
Nigeria the most practicable, expedient and cost-saving deal. It is not known if President Buhari was
adequately briefed and advised before this transaction was consummated and how was it vetted in
Government circle before approval and controversial hurry disbursement of the advance payment of
$496 Million dollars to the US Treasury which is currently generating ripples in the NASS due to the
Presidency unilateral decision to spend so much money without the NASS consideration
and informed.
Again, with the benefit of hindsight, it could be argued that the purchase from the USA may be
accountable to other invisible reasons, but on the surface of it, it is generally a transaction that does
not favor Nigeria in all ramifications. Again, based on the above analysis, it is extremely an outrage
price paid by Nigeria for this equipment. That is the main reason why Mr Potus immediately invited
President Buhari to seal the transaction and sign off on it probably due to the call in the NASS circle
that the Federal Government should recall the advance payment and channel the transaction
through appropriate route via the NASS review and approval. Who will blame Mr. Potus who
considers America FIRST in all transactions and he has not waiver on this policy even threatening
and challenging the World's superpower such as China, Germany, Japan, etc

I have taken this pain to put this out not to underscore anybody capacity including the US
Government that seems to have profited tremendously from this transaction or to instigate a
discord on the part of the Federal Government of Nigeria circle that may have failed to really conduct
a verifiable and thorough investigation before consenting to the negotiation for the purchase of this
Aircraft from the USA and perhaps not giving opportunities to public purview to examine this
transaction and proffer useful suggestions to the Government before proceeding to shortchange the
Nigerian Nation. In fact, I am personally willing to offer a known Nigerian with powerful connections
with the US Congress that could assist get the balance sum of $104 Million on the transaction
canceled for this reason if the Nigerian Government needs such help.
The goal here is to reiterate and reecho the need for the Nigerian Government to take its
Diasporas population seriously and engage them in issues of this nature. The chances are that they
will be more patriotic and determined to assist uncover any hiding details since they are residence in
those countries and they can always get the most information to the Government and/or alert the
Government of any possible undermining issues with the Project or transaction. Well we have paid
for this and Mr. Potus has assured President Buhari that those Aircraft shall be delivered ASAP
before anybody in the Nigerian circles starting to raise an eyebrow and call for the refund of the
advance payment. I am sure if some Diasporans have been involved in this, this nature of analysis
would have been generated to appropriately advise the Federal Government hence saving Nigeria
so much money.
I am equally very sympathetic to this current Administration but not necessarily a fan. It is instructive
that this Aircraft delivery Contract should have been handled in a manner favorable to Nigeria if
some cognate steps have been considered in the permutation. First, the US Government has been
reported to have donation or gifted these equipment outrights to several Countries including Yemeni
and largest gift to the Afghanistan. I insisted that and I personally know of some power members of
our Nigerian Diaspora residence in the United States that are so close to the members of the US
Congress and the Government Officials that could have coordinated efforts to get the US to donate
or send some few of these Aircraft to Nigeria on gift. This is what you call bilateral consultation and
maneuvering or International lobbying in Politics. The US has indicated interest in helping Nigeria
fight the menace created in the Northeast Nigeria by Boko Haram. The immediate past Secretary of
State was just recently in Nigeria; in fact that was his last officially known assignment. It was
reported that the Nigerian Government bluntly rejected offer of help from the United States from him
to help fight Boko Haram disguising as Fulani Herdsmen. We instead preferred to pay high premium
prices for equipment that some other Countries got for Free. Where is the Nigeria’s Tax Payer
interest given surmountable consideration in this transaction? Why equally our Government does
continues to ignore the powerful resources of our Diasporas around the world.
I am personally interested in knowing the details of the widely publicized Railway Nationwide Link
project in which we understand the President has signed an MoU deal with the General Electric to
build, develop and construct 3,400 Kilometers of Railway lines in Nigeria just yesterday. We want to
know the dynamics of this transaction. What is it worth, what is GE bringing to the table? What is the
GE general determination of the Cost Coefficient per Kilometer of Rail line. What kind of
technology are we looking at to be delivered by GE. What is the basis of the decision to give GE that
colossal amount of wide- huge project rail line project? What is the competitive basis of this business
decision? Could any other Manufacturer or companies around the world provide a better deal? What
are the potential cost-inflation parameters that may be imported into this project considering the
advantaged foreign exchange matrix in favor of the United States dollar against our Naira? There
are so many issues that should be given consideration before deciding on engaging on such a huge
and gigantic project. Hopefully we would not end up donating hard earned CASH to America and GE
again just as the case of this Aircraft purchase has indicated.
Thank You all for your attention

While he was still in the house, Regina was rumoured to be his girlfriend. He has however set the record straight, stating that the fitness expert is his G and he owes her forever.
This is not a clear reply

A while ago, Regina who was under pressure from trolls, came out to say she is too powerful to be in anyone’s shadow.

While Regina never called herself his girlfriend, her support for him while he was in the house, was always unwavering.

All through the days of the show, Regina campaigned intensively for Tobi and this was intensified in the latter days of the show.

Now that Alex is in the picture, people thought Regina might feel threatened – they insinuated that she should be ready to face a stiff

competition from the ex Big Brother Naija housemate.

Regina however, shut down the speculations saying she is too powerful to be in anyone’s shadow.

We raided Magu’s farm for money – Dismissed NAF officer
ABDULFATAI AYOBAMI IBRAHIM
24 APR 2018
Adelani Adepegba, Abuja

The police have paraded three suspects for their alleged involvement in the attack on the farmhouse of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu.

The attack on the farmhouse led to the death of a policeman, Sergeant Haruna Sarki, who was on guard

The suspects include a dismissed Nigerian Air Force Officer, Vincent Michael, with number: NAF12/26972L/CPL, Inalegwu Omikpa, and Francis Ochife.

Michael told journalists in Abuja on Monday that they raided the farmhouse because they were informed that Magu was keeping huge sums of money there.

The suspect said they were convinced that money was being kept in the farm because there were only a cow and two sheep, which were being guarded by two policemen.

Michael said, “In November 2017, a friend of mine told me that his friend, Omikpa, told him that there was money at Magu’s house and that we should go and take it.

“At first, I did not buy the idea but he called me again and told me that we were not going to rob. He said all we needed to do was to go and dig the soakaway and get the money out.

“So, December 12, we went to the place and when we got there with two other soldiers, who were contacted by Omikpa, the captain grabbed the policeman who was on duty, I held his neck and Omikpa tied his hand and leg.”

He added, “After he was tied, I picked up the digger and made my way to the soakaway. I noticed a ray of torchlight and then I went back and noticed that a boy who kills animals at the farm was also there.

“They tied him also and the captain came to join me where I was breaking the soakaway. I broke two soakaways but I did not see any money. I received a phone call later that people had started noticing that we were on the farm, so we left.”

On who was responsible for the death of the policeman, the dismissed NAF officer said Omikpa killed the cop.

“Omikpa killed the policeman because we left him with the policeman and he later came to join us where we were breaking the soakaway,” he stated.

Speaking during the parade of the suspects at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the Deputy Force Spokesman, SP Aremu Adeniran, said Michael was handed over to the police by the NAF after he was dismissed from service for his involvement in the attack.

He added that two other NAF personnel who took part in the operation were currently facing disciplinary action with the NAF and would be handed over to the police thereafter.

Items recovered from them included two police AK47 rifles, two mobile phones, two magazines and 60 rounds of AK47 ammunition

Omikpa explained that they planned to sell the slain policeman’s AK47 rifle for N400,000 because they did not find any money when they raided the farm.

Sanusi knocks ministers for missing meeting with investors

Published

April 22, 2018

ENIOLA AKINKUOTU

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has lambasted Nigerian ministers for missing a meeting with investors in Washington DC despite some of them being in the US.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday at an investment programme organised by the Nigerian Embassy, Sanusi said Nigeria might lose investors because of the attitude of the ministers.

According to the emir, there was no reason for the absence of the officials and the challenges faced at the beginning of the event.

Sanusi said, “We had a meeting today with investors, we were supposed to start by 9am; we started at 10. When I came in, they took me to the ambassador’s office to sit, when investors were waiting there. We had a list of people who were to be here, Vice-President, ministers, some of them are in town, but they haven’t come up.

“You invite top investors, your ministers are in Washington and they do not come to talk to the investors about Nigeria. That is not how you attract investors. If you have this forum in the Rwandan embassy, I assure you President Kagame himself would be there telling people to come to Rwanda.”

According to The Cable, some of the ministers, who were absent from the event, included the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu; and the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Others, who shunned the event, included the Minister of Power, Babatunde Fashola; the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi; the Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu; and the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission Yewande Sadiku; Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, and all governors were absent while only the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, was present.

The emir added, “Sometimes, it is about how we market ourselves, how we package ourselves. There is absolutely no reason for the Nigerian embassy to arrange a ‘Nigeria is open for Business’ forum with ministers in town, with governors in town, and not have the coordination that they are actually here to meet with these investors.

“There is no reason why we should start one hour late, and there is no reason why the public address system should not work. Because at the end of the day, this is the first point of the country.

“The investors haven’t even come to Nigeria; so, what will be his experience in Abuja if he is having this experience in Washington?”

He said Nigeria should not display complacency because it was the largest economy in Africa, adding that investors could choose to invest in other countries that were more serious than Nigeria.

Polaris is recalling the 2015-2018 Slingshot models in the United States. The recall is due to a seat assembly problem that affects approximately 24,000 units.

The problem arose from the improper welding of the bracket anchoring the seat belt and seat back.

“If the seat slides unexpectedly, this may increase the risk of a loss of control, or the risk of injury in the event of a crash. If the seat belt buckle and seat back dislodge from the seat base, this may increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash,” Polaris said

Wedding days are typically designed to be very memorable. The couple involved put in so much efforts to make the event one to linger for long in the memories of all.

To achieve this, different tactics and antics are orchestrated to make the wedding eventful, especially with interesting high points, all designed to make the event the most talked about event for as long as possible.

However, there are some rather daring couples who succeeded in making their wedding a very memorable event. They succeeded not necessarily due to the grandiose nature of the event. Neither did they achieve it due to the presence of some celebrity performer that performed at the event. Or the grand wedding venue.

Rather they used usual wedding vehicles to make give their events a unique touch and to be the talk of the town, or well, in this era of the Internet and the World Wide Web, the talk of the world.

Anyway, Autojosh presents some very usual and I dare say very daring couples with the most usual wedding vehicles.

Its easier for a head of a camel to pass through the eyes of a needle than for a foreigner, i Mean European to be tried in Nigeria. The treatment he will be given can't be compared to an ordinary fowl thief. The prison wardens will be address him(murderer) as sir and if need be, they might snap selfie with him.
If i can, I'll wish that Italian dude to be arraigned in Justice Okon Abang court.
He is not an Italian
Nairaland GeneralShocking Fact About Fuel Consumption And Fuel Hike by Mdaz(op): 1:08pm On Apr 06, 2018
Questions nobody is asking government.
----------------------------------------------------

We have watched as the NNPC hiked our daily fuel consumption of petrol from 30 million litres to over 60 million litres, yet over 70% of the country suffer from one form of scarcity or another.

To justify the above claim, they told us that they have spent $5.8 billion between December and February. If you do not know, this is N1.76 trillion ( 20% of the 2018 Budget).

They claim they imported 9.8 million metric tonnes of fuel within this period.

In 2017 alone, NNPC spent $28 billion to import fuel. Yet early last year, we celebrated "our refineries". Of this figure, they claim 40% is spent on logistics alone.

Can we ask some questions?

In 2014, a litre of petrol was N87 and government was spending less on fuel subsidy which was equally enmeshed in corruption. But at least, the product was available.

This government came to power, using the corruption within the fuel subsidy regime as plank for the need to vote out the former government. They hiked the fuel price from N87 to N145 with the excuse that this will help balance the market and remove subsidy. We agreed.

But today, this same government through the NNPC is spending more on subsidy ( N1 billion daily) yet fuel sells N145 per litre in Lagos and Abuja mostly, with other parts of Nigeria buying fuel at higher prices.

Can someone compare what was being spent annually on subsidy payments under the "very corrupt" government of President Jonathan, and what we are wasting today on same subsidy, yet the products are not available?

As if that was not enough, they hiked the quantity of fuel imported to almost 60 million litres daily, claiming that the need to curb scarcity is responsible.

If we still have scarcity in many states of the federation, what happened to the fuel NNPC claim it brings in daily?

The cheap excuse they have been giving us is that unscrupulous elements diverts fuel to neighboring countries.

Figures from the International Energy Agency show that the total fuel consumption of all our neighboring countries is 153,200 litres per day.

Chad consumes 11.2 litres per capita or 2,200 barrels per day; Togo 13,000 bpd or 102.6 litres per capita; Niger Republic 14,000 bpd or 46.5 litres per capita; Benin Republic 41,000 bpd or 234.2 per capita; and Ghana 83,000 or 157 litres per capita.

These markets combined cannot absorb the volume of petrol “missing” daily from Nigeria.

WHERE IS THE MISSING FUEL?

The DPR is lost.

The PPPRA claim they have no idea what is happening.

Figures from the NPA is unreliable.

Who can provide the true figures of quantity of fuel NNPC claim it imports?

No country can grow where you have an agency that is above the law, above oversight functions of legislators, above scrutiny, above the law.

The amount of money being siphoned daily through NNPC operations which they recently claim Nigerians have no power to demand access to, is unthinkable in the history of Nigeria.

NNPC is still paying millions for the Petroleum Equalisation Fund, yet fuel prices are anything but uniform across neighboring states.

To think that this is happening under the very nose of a government that came to power with a promise to fight corruption makes it more disheartening.

I keep saying that Dasukigate will be a child's play.
