Indigenes of Lagos State are expressing their strong opposition to a bill proposing the return of Nigeria to a regional government system. Represented by the De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, Lagos indigenes are firm in their stance against being included in the Western Region under the proposed legislation. According to a statement from the Media Office of De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, the group highlighted their rejection of the bill by stating, “This bill that is being proposed or suggested spells an ominous sign to us from Lagos State. It is a further attempt to subsume our aspiration into a larger group that is antithesis to whatever we believe in as indigenes of the state.” The group emphasized the lack of extensive consultations on the matter and emphasized their preference for an independent status for Lagos State. They pointed out that historical experiences have shown that being part of a larger region has not benefitted Lagos indigenes, citing instances of marginalization from their neighbors in the South West. The statement further noted the dissatisfaction with the lack of progress and development experienced by Lagos indigenes when part of a region, asserting that being included in the Western Region historically proved to be an aberration. The De Renaissance Patriots Foundation is therefore calling for a referendum to gauge the true desires of the people of Lagos State regarding their inclusion in any regional system. They reference the opposition of past leaders and traditional rulers to such inclusion and vow to resist any attempt to bring Lagos State into a regional structure against their will. Furthermore, the group urged the representatives of Lagos State in the National Assembly to seek input from elders, statesmen, and stakeholders before making any decisions on the bill. They stressed that the issue transcends party politics and requires a careful consideration of the wishes and interests of the people of Lagos State to prevent their inclusion in the proposed South West Region under the bill.

National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has commiserated with the Kebbi State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board over the death of one of its pilgrims, Tawakalitu Alako, who passed away on Saturday in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Chairman of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Arabi, in a condolence message delivered by the Makkah Office Coordinator, Dr. Aliyu Tanko, accompanied by the Saudi Liaison Officer, Abubakar Lamin, and other staff, to the board officials led by Alhaji Garba Takware, expressed heartfelt sympathy to the family and the people of Kebbi State and prayed the Almighty Allah to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest. According to Takware, the deceased died after collapsing in her Makkah hotel on Saturday. “She was on her way to collect food in her hotel in Makkah when she suddenly slumped. Prior to that, she was hale and hearty. “We quickly rushed her to the hospital but she was already unconscious by the time we got there. As the ancient city of Kano boils over the dethronement of five emirs and reinstatement of another, an Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded the repeal of laws that empower governors to dethrone traditional rulers in Nigeria for sanity to prevail. The demand was made in a statement issued on Sunday, 26th May, 2024 by the Executive Director of the group, Professor Ishaq Akintola. According to MURIC: “The city of Kano is currently embroiled in crisis as the state governor, Abba Yusuf, deposed five emirs and reinstated Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who was dethroned as emir of Kano on Monday, 9th March 2020. “A court injunction seeking to stop the reinstatement of Sanusi was sidestepped and the governor ordered the arrest of the emir, Aminu Ado Bayero. But in a dramatic twist, security agencies, including the army, the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) beefed up security in Aminu Ado Bayero’s palace to disallow his arrest. “MURIC is shocked by these developments. It is not only embarrassing but confusing and that is to say the least as we struggle to restrain ourselves from going into any explosive outburst. Politicians are out to debilitate, destabilize and finally dismantle the traditional system. The governors have bastardised the traditional system the same way they messed up the local government system all over the country. “The show of power in Kano in the last 48 hours are symptomatic of a serious decay and big threat to our nascent democracy. Traditional rulers are made victims of political intrigues and the fear of the total collapse of traditional values hangs above our heads like the sword of Damocles. “It is an open secret that governors act with politics at the back of their minds. We strongly condemn the way and manner two governors, past and present, have turned the revered stool of the ancient city of Kano into a tool for ping-pong game and our traditional rulers who should be respected by the governors are now being pushed hither and thither. [AD] Urgent: Download This APP & Get Instant Reward “It is not a Kano affair alone. The South West, South East and other parts of the North have witnessed deposition of traditional rulers. “The position of MURIC has always been that governors should no longer be allowed to dethrone traditional rulers and we have ventilated this campaign on several occasions. “The naked dance in the market place currently going on in Kano has made it more imperative for Nigerians to rise against the excesses of governors. It is time we demand from our lawmakers to immunise traditional rulers from disgraceful, untimely, unnecessary and politically motivated dethronements. This campaign should be taken up in all the 36 state houses of assembly. The law which empowers governors to depose kings should be repealed. “That will not necessarily make the traditional rulers all powerful. Traditional rulers who misbehave can still be sanctioned by the kingmakers. He can be suspended or dethroned but it will be by his own people. The kingmakers are enough for the king as checks and balances. “MURIC appeals to all stakeholders in the Kano imbroglio to tread softly. They should desist from making inflammable statements. “All sides in the saga have gone to the extreme. The deposition of Emir Sanusi in 2020 allegedly for insurbordination was an extreme measure. But ordering the arrest of Emir Ado Bayero after his removal is high-handed particularly without stating his crime. Revenge is a wild dish and the path of moderation is the path of decency. This is a democracy and the days of l’etat c’est moi are far gone. “While we call on Kano citizens to remain calm, we appeal to the security agencies to avoid confrontation. Kano must not burn.”

Below are the Reno Omokri assertion which are welcomed: *ASSAULT ON MILITARY PERSONNEL AT BANEX PLAZA ABUJA : IMPLICATION ON NATIONAL SECURITY* 👇 There is no country on Earth where civilians will attack the military, and there will not be harsh consequences. None whatsoever. To debase your military is to undermine your country and its government. What happened at Banex Plaza should not be propagandised by Emergency Lovers of Nigeria as hatred for certain groups of people. It was captured on video. These traders gathered together to fight soldiers who were outnumbered. If they had grievances against the soldiers, they could have gone to the proper authorities or the media. But by attacking people wearing the uniform of the Nigerian Army, they violated the very heart of Nigeria and should face whatever consequences the military authorities deem fit. If there is no healthy respect for our military, then Nigeria will fall into anarchy. To those making this about ethnicity, please note that Abuja is our Federal Capital Territory and will not be allowed to fall into the state of lawlessness that pervades certain parts of Nigeria. And our military is the most heterogeneous and united organisation in Nigeria. They are guarantors of the Nigerian state. And no amount of propaganda will make Nigerians turn against their military. The traders should fish out the ring leaders of the incident, or Banex Plaza should remain shut until thy kingdom comes. And anyone who does not like that can relocate to any part of Nigeria that will tolerate their behaviour. May God bless the Nigerian Army! #RENO OMOKRI #TableShaker |
