When converted to Naira, I bought toiletries, fruits, clothes for far cheaper than here.

omon:
It is just like somebdoy going through Abuja and saying the whole Nigeria must be like that.
I like that, but tell me where in Abuja do they have constant power supply? As I know all Accra and its environs and attaching towns have constant power supply and we are giving Ghana light smiley Is it that in Abuja there isnt any harassment from Police?

Besides let me be straight forward with you, NIgeria has a long way to go. When it is still in the mentality of the people that because I am WHITE I cannot be Nigerian, then that is fascinating. Even when I tell a person that I am the 3rd generation of my family born here in Nigeria and I have only known Naija all my life besides being a citizen, The still say I cannot be Nigerian (even to the government organisations). In Ghana when I was aksed by officials or people where I'm from I say I am Nigerian it is taken, but when I came back I was delayed at the airport trying to explain to the Immigration officer that I was born and bred here. The guy still maintained that I am not Nigerian because I am not black, I said but you have my 3 passports from when I was young till present and they are Nigerian how can you tell me that? I finished him by asking him if John Fashanu the footballer or Ben Okri the author were White to be British? smiley

Anyways forget all that, still I love Naija and it pains me to see it so when I know how it was in the late 70s and early 80 when I was young sad

Ghana! Why Can't Nigeria Be Like Thathuh

Hi all,

Happy New Year! Hope you all had nice holidays.

I recently went to Accra, Ghana with my wife and daughter for the Xmas and New Year holidays. What can I say, I was so shocked and wondered if we were on the same continent with them. It was hard to believe that these were the same people we flushed out of Nigeria in the late 70s and early 80s in trucks and tippers.

Everything is so organised and so stright forward. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly it was unbelievable. Life is reasonably cheaper and more relaxing than Naija. You come home there is constant power. YOu drive anyhow on the street and you are given an alcohol test, if you fail you face a jail sentence of 3 months. Petrol stations are open 24 hours a day with built in supermarkets like Europe. The whole city works on traffic lights 24 hrs a day. The police ar friendly and do not disturb anyone, infact every police station has a telephone number for emergencies. Crime rate is very very low and infact its sad to know that all crime there are commited by Nigerians or Liberian refugees. I put on the news one day and found out they caught a gang of 12 robbers terrorising KUmasi in which 9 were Nigerians.

HOnestly I can go on and on and on, but I think experience is the best teacher. If any of you have any holidays, pay a visit to Accra and you will never regret. I am buying a house there and sending my family there by the middle of this year. I met a lot of Nigerians who have houses there and their families there while they work here. I met a lot who are sending their children to school there and they come here on holidays because education is better. It is very sad, but the truth is painful. As much as you love and care for Nigeria, you don't get that in return sad

call it attack against those who are not in his favor or call it any other thing, as far as I am concerned, Im happy with the way OBJ is handling the issue as well as others and I think its the beginning of a good Nigeria. I heard and read that INtels have been suspended from operating since monday and a panel set up to investigate VPs businesses. Fair enough, people are asking is OBJ himself not corrupt, well like I tell others, if you know he is and you have the facts, please bring them out let the necessary authorities investigate cool

@owo I truly agree with you on your claims of how we sit down and do nothing and complain while others remove their leaders when he or she messes up. One thing i want you to please remember in those facts you made about Georgia and Ukraine and others, is the people protested and took it to the government and not ask innocent fellow suffering people to stay at home so you can make a point to the government smiley

Well congrats to the Man U fans, but I would like to comment that they were 2 lucky spells in that match for Man U, 1 was the goal as I dont believe he meant to do any other thing there than to put the ball in the center for any stroker and 2 was Man U surviving the second half well because the way Chelsea came on in the second half, Man U got confused. Dont worry, from this weekend the Premier League begins again, then we shall know that Chelsea are here and staying smiley

Im sorry lioness, like I stated in the beginning of my write up, that we are only exchanging views which helps us to learn more and not fighting or abusing or condemning any person or church, please understand that point.

Thank you
Christianity EtcRe: Do Catholics Believe in Being Born Again? by medube(m): 4:13pm On Nov 10, 2005
This is getting more and more interesting as it goes forward, though I don't think it calls up for the use of any foul, insultive or abusive language to any person or church, afterall we are just exchanging views.

I personally was born a Catholic and have stuck to my faith ever since. To be honest, I have come across a lot and lot of condemnation from members of other churches, who in my opinion are not any better or sin free than the Catholics. No one says there isnt any scandal or irregularities in the Catholic church by certain members even priests and nuns, but that isnt a ground to condem a whole faith. Afterall like Jesus told the jews who were going to condemn a woman for adultery, that he is who is sin free should cast the first stone. Afterall nowadays we hear so many fascinating stories about churches that hands down the bad that comes out of the Catholic church. Look at the instance of a well reknowned Pastor who is running second time for President of Nigeria? Is that the call he got from God? Or the other late pastor (name witheld) who was caught twice for carrying cocaine in his colar and Bible? Or the other man in Onitsha who declared that he was Jesus Christ and people kept flocking his ground and worshipping him until Bakassi Boys beheaded him once the found out he was getting powers to heal from Black Magic.? Or are we talking of the other Pastor who claims he is God and the Holy Spirit?

The fact is due to the rough economical era that has besieged Nigeria for many years, some people have taken advantage of it and brain washed a lot of Christians into moving around from Church to Church in search of a solution to their problems. They set up churches which are the best form of business presently as all income is tax free and rip the poor off their hard earned money. The sick is dying and needs help, family members rush him to the pastor to pray while there are hospitals. But in our same Bible, God said help yourself before he helps you. You hear that this man is a God fearing Christian and yet when they catch him stealing or commiting a big crime, he claims it was the work of the devil. We are forever hearing shouting and singing and 'jibberish' as stated by whocares all in the name of practicing Christianity. You greet someone nowadays and he doesnt know how to reply fine thank you, rather he says I am blessed. We have been taken advantage off so much its hard to come out of it. As far as I am concerned, the highest sin on earth has been commited in Nigeria by people using the Bible, which is the word of God to generate personal wealth. They don't even know the meaning of Christianity and yet the preach Born Again. How can a church call themself, Hebrew Womens Association or Shalom, when the big difference between the Hebrew and the Christians is that the Hebrew (Jews of today) don't believe that the Messiah has come? Honeslty, I don't know what mentality that is, but I don't blame them rather I blame the people who rush to these churches thinking that a miracle will happen to change their lives.

I have always wanted to know, in the days of our grandparents and parents all up to the late 80s before the inception of the American Pentecostal Churches, were they no Born Again Christians in Nigeria because they were all Catholics or Anglicans? I have always wanted to know in the early days, during traditional events in the villages, did they use to use Malt and Mineral for rites because the Born Agiains say don't drink. Please if anyone can rightly point out to me where in the Bible did it say, don't drink or smoke because I have heard that a lot.

My personal belief is that these so called Born Agains that we have around are being very hypocritical to the extreme. They say we as Catholics bow down to a reverend father and ask for forgiveness smiley . Well for anyones information, the reverend father that we bow down is representing Christ on earth and it is Christ that we are speaking to and not the father who is only a man. But they go to a man who pushes them to the ground and shouts in 'jiberrish' and claims to have healed them. In the Bible, when Jesus forgave a man his sins and the Jewish leaders all yelled that he had commited blasphemy, he asked them which was easier to tell a man go your sins have been forgiven or telling the lame to rise and walk. I think the mere truth, is people are confused and confusing others.

And between Eddy tells, if you read your Bible very well, "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many." Matthew 24:4-5

End of Part 2 cool

nferyn:
This issue about the Holy Trinity is actually quite funny. If you go back to earlier sources, prior to the establishment of the Catholic Church, especially in the Gnostic Gospels, the trinity is more than the union of father, son and holy spirit. It is the unity of the masculine (father), feminine (spirit) and intermediary (son). The original Hebrew term for ghost was ruah, which is definitely feminine. During the council of Nicea, ruah was translated into the Greek pneuma, which is gender neutral.
Islam, which had access to Original Christian text that were either burned or lost by the Catholic Church made a correct interpretation of the Trinity as a unity of God-Jesus-Mary.

Please continue your discussion on the sex of angels... oops... i meant to say whether or not Catholics are born again grin
You may be right nferyn, but we are not Hebrews to follow the Hebrew meaning are we? We are Christians and according to the Christians, the Holy Trinity is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, regardless of what the Hebrew or any other meaning had or has smiley
Christianity EtcRe: Do Catholics Believe in Being Born Again? by medube(m): 9:16pm On Nov 09, 2005
I like this argument. Some ppl are really making some sense like me, though I havent spoken bout it here yet, but I do everyday.

I want to first point things out from what I have read. Lets see...

layi:
@adesodgi

Mary was just a vessel used by GOD to bring forth (WORD-incarnate). She isnt the mother of god and GOD is the beginning. GOd has no mother.
I like this one, @adesogi smiley You are calling a woman a vessel smiley Nevertheless the Catholic Church believes in the HOLY TRINITY, God the Father, God the Son and God the HOly Spirit. Wether we like it or not Mary the Blessed was the mother of God the Son on earth.

With the issue of being Born Again, I dont see how bowing down to the Mother of God as she is known for have anything to do with being born again? Afterall there are people in this Naija that jump from church to church because the pastor speaks more Americano in the next, that is bowing down in the non-literal sense. Are we goign to church for the Pastor or for God? Every member of the congregation catches taxi, okada or molue tot he church and the pastor closes and drives out in his latest Jepp or Mercedes Benz smiley Or do you term being Born Again as some people term it not watching TVs, not listening to music because all these are handworks of the devilsmiley We have over 10000 churches and so much dedicated Born Again Christians and yet we remain within the top 10 most corrupt country in the world smiley

End of Part 1 smiley

To be honest with you, I don't think the EFCC or any security agencycan handle this task solely without involving ISPs. With a little helping hand from everyone you can start tracking them down one by one. Their emails can cause real pain and I'm talking from an ISP's point of view. Regardless of that no one will do business with you over the internet once they know you're from Nigeria, which is really really sad... sad

Well let's see how they intend to do make this work.

Finally, the U.S. has bowed its head and started accepting donations from other nations. The funny thing is, though Im sorry to say it, but I believe because majority of people hit are African Americans, the US government delayed in sending food and supplies. They even took time in sending troops for evacuation, but Bush doesnt waste time in sending troops to war in other countries for the fight for freedom smiley

I feel sad for the people of New Orleans and Louisiana, but I'm happy in a way the American People and others around the world are getting to see what George Bush is really made of.

vexxy:
I really don't wish to have this tread turned into a political argument of the international affairs of the US. Right now there are people suffering insurmountable grief.
You cant have this thread not turn into a political argument vexxy because the whole news media have turned it into a political argument. The whole people have turned it into a comparison chart of all American Government's reactions. Though you are right, people are suffering, buts its sad Mr Bush is really taking his time as if things were ok. I wonder if he watches the same news that we watch... huh As always CNN have turned the whole thing into another reality tv show which is ON 24hrs a day.

It's a great pity...  sad
