Onitsha keeps diversifying.

This place is called 'Iba Ajie centre'. It was founded by Obi Asika. It comprises of a Museum, Art gallery, Tech Hub, games facilities, lounge, event centre and more.

The place is really classic and amazing. We need more of this. The change and modernization of Onitsha is beginning to happen

afube:
Do not underestimate the parochial nature of the average Nnewi indigene o! this narrow-mindedness is the reason why it is so difficult to start any development project there, besides the town center is so jampacked and densely populated that its going to be near impossible to relocate any market or park. I think a more cost effective approach to modernizing the town is tighter supervision and enforcement of town planning and traffic regulations. Shops have to restrict wares display within the shops, no extension of shop shades and shelters onto the road, eliminate street trading, expand key roads and junctions...............the idea of massive demolitions and relocation may not work. I wonder what the old site of unizik teaching hospital will be used for when they move to the perm site in Umudim Nnewi? that's the only substantial space left within the town center.
You can't really say it's parochial and narrow mindedness. Are they narrow minded but are able to achieve great feats in business, building big industries, developed their town from a total bush to a city?
The blame is on all past and present governors of Anambra state that have neglected Nnewi for more than 30 years now despite the huge revenue the city generates for the state and the huge jobs the city creates. Nnewi Must be given a special attention

Nnewi, the automobile hub of Africa

BusinessNnewi Markets And The "Nkwo Nnewi" Misconception by Mega2biz(op):
Nnewi is the second largest commercial and industrial city in Anambra state.

In Nnewi, there are few international markets and countless local markets. Wrongly, people do refer to all the markets in Nnewi as "Nkwo Nnewi". This could be due to the popular Nkwo triangle at the heart of the town, and also maybe the markets are at a very close proximity to each other., hence, they just casually refer to all of them using the popular Nkwo Nnewi name

Below is a list of markets in Nnewi (The major markets)

1.New motorcycle spare parts

This markets is unarguably the largest automobile market in Africa. New motorcycles of different brands are sold in this market, with the spare parts too.
Tricycles (Keke) and it's parts are also sold in this market all at the cheapest possible prices.
In this market, there are so many companies that assemble/couple motorcycles and keke. Lubricants and batteries are sold in this market too

2.New motor spare parts

As Nnewi is the automobile hub of Africa, it dominates the motor spare parts markets, just like the motorcycle spare parts. In this market, you will find different brands of new motor parts, including lubricants, batteries etc

3.Nwagbara market(mgbuka machine parts)

This is another big market in Nnewi where fairly used motorcycle parts are sold. It's located just beside the new motorcycle parts market.Fairly used motorcycle and parts, and also new motorcycles are sold here. In this market, you will find a lot of creative artisans and motorcycle engineers who repair and produce motorcycle parts, re-paint old motorcycles and a whole lot of creativity inside this market

4. Nnewi general market(ime Afia)
This is the biggest market in Nnewi by landmass. Here, all kinds of household goods, clothes, drugs, provisions, books, liquors, foodstuff, etc are sold

5.Building Materials Market

This market occupies the road that links Nnewi general market. On the road stretch containing this market, all types of building materials are sold

6.Electrical/Electronics market

This market is currently located by Old Onitsha road between Ibeto Junction and Nnewi round-about. You can get all your electronics and electrical equipments here

7.Generator parts market
This market is located at one of the entrances of Nnewi motorcycle New parts. Different brands of generators and their parts are sold in the market

8.Timber dealers Market(Ọgbọ osisi)

This is a market where timber is processed, woods and timber materials are sold here too

BusinessRe: Why You Should Do Business In Onitsha by Mega2biz(m): 11:29pm On Feb 24, 2020
antivirushop:
There are uncountable reasons why its cheaper and easier to do business or buy goods from Onitsha. I may not wirte all but will give the basic ones

1.Proximity
Onitsha is a commercial city with less land mass. You can move across the city within 30mins. The various markets in the city is not far from each other thereby offering you the convenience to do Biz in the city. For example ,moving from main market to building material market takes only 10mins and can cost N100 for transport.

2. Large Concentration of importers/Varieties
The markets in onitsha has importers in virtually all items. That is why it is easy to find and buy almost all the varieties of items u might need here. Also it makes the prices affordable. There are some items you can buy cheaper in onitsha than in lagos even though all cargos and shipments come almost through lagos ports. There are different markets for different items. Eg main market( for general goods- clothes, articles, phones, accessories), building material market, Shoe site market, Stockfish market, aluminium profiles markets, spare parts market etc.
U can get varieties of any type of goods u desire. remember what they said about variety being the spice of life

3. Affordable freight/ Transportation
This is one of the areas onitsha has a higher advantage over other commercial cities. Here in onitsha, u can get transport vehicles/lorries going to virtually all parts and states of Nigeria and even outside Nigeria like Cameroon, Ghana etc. Its not only availability but also its cheap and affordable. For example you can send goods or package from onitsha to Sokoto, Kano, Yola, etc at the cost of N1000. While sending goods from a location in lagos to another location in lagos costs same amount. Its so because there are many transport companies that transverse through Nigeria here in onitsha. For example, going from Onitsha to Sokoto which is a very far distance can take u only 10hours in a luxury bus. So u can come to onitsha from sokoto to buy goods and be back at sokoto the next day. Do u know u can go to lagos from Onitsha via a bus with N2000 if u dont hwve muchnmoney to board regular bus. Just go to asaba from onitsha and board a bus. And so with other locations throughout Nigeria

4. Good Infrastructure/Hospitality sector.
Thanks to the government of Peter Obi, onitsha has well inter connected roads. Also other amenities like schools, hospitals, hotels. You can get very good hotels at a cheaper rates. Even house rent in onitsha is generally cheap. You can get a 3bedroom flat for N240,000 The city is also well secured due to the empowerment of the various security agencies. Financial institutions like banks are scattered everywhere in the city. So getting money is easier.
This town does not encounter communal or sectorial crisis so there is peace.

5. Affordable goods
As I said earlier that Onitsha has a cluster of many importers. This makes it easy to buy goods at cheapest rate than elsewhere in Nigeria. Except foodstuffs that is generally brought down from north to east, virtually u can buy all other items at the most affordable rate here.

6. Cheap Rent
Generally its no news that rent in Onitsha is generally cheaper than most locations in Nigeria. You can get monthly shop rents ranging from N3000 - N30000 in big markets here. Even house rent comes cheap too compared to other locations. N180000 can get you a comfortable 2 or 3bedroom flats in the heart of the city. Such amount may get you only a self con apartment in lagos.

7. You can add yours

I love what you are doing sir. We need to let the world know about the huge commercial and industrial activities going on in Onitsha and Anambra State. We need both drone and normal pictures of those Onitsha markets listed, so that a thread about list of Onitsha markets with proper description of each market and their images will be made and published on both nairaland and other platforms, so that it will be available to any future investor or Onitsha/Anambra markets patronizer

As for the Onitsha/Anambra population figures, you should know by now that it's manipulated. Anambra has the second highest population in Nigeria after Lagos, but northerners will rate Kano higher. It's our fault for not projecting our own state, cities, population figures, commercial status all these years

Onitsha as a commercial hub still offers opportunities for people . the potentials of this town does not only lie in offering u affordable goods. there are still room for investments for people outside Onitsha. u can come here and start ur biz. alot of people has asked me questions about what they can do here in onitsha, Here ICT services is not saturated. livestock farming and also people who have businesses dt does with money exchange will surbive here. there are lots of foreign exchange needs from people in this town. even if u have a million dollars u cant even meet up with the demands here.

if u have d capital or goods u want to bring here to sell u can come and do ur research and see if it can move for u here. Onitsha is a commercial hub so if ur product enters market here and its good, u wont believe d volume of sales dt will be chasing u around. even consumers in Onitsha alone is enough for any biz. over the last 5 years the population her has grown in a geometric progression. more people are coming to live in this city because of the infrastructure, security and peace in this town. this u can notice from d fast and rapid development of the close villages around onitsha dt has turned into urban areas within a short while. place like 3 3, nsugbe, oba, ogidi etc. more people are coming to live in onitsha so the need for the city to expand. at times when i see d amount of people going to Awada via MCC road in d evening i wonder if the the figures from d population census are still correct and tenable.u know that any place with population attracts more businesses. many people who use to do biz in d north has relocated back to d east due to security challenges in d north. even many northerners are coming to live and do biz in Onitsha. have met many yorubas who are into tailoring in Onitsha. many of them i have interacted with has said biz is moving well for them.once u are good people willl find u. u can still import and sell here if ur prices are good

I totally agree with you, Enugu is useless, classless, worthless and useless lol
...Pls let's stop all these quarrels between Igbo states. This thread is meant to showcase the developments in Anambra state and not for quarrels. This is not reasonable of us to be attacking ourselves as umu Igbo. And you from Enugu or any other state in Ala-Igbo should be truthful to yourselves. We all know Anambra state and then Aba are the economic strongholds of Igboland. We all know Anambra state is the most urbanized and fastest developing state in South-east and second in Nigeria after Lagos with so many economically vibrant towns/cities like Obosi,Ogidi,Nkpor,Ekwulobia,Awka,Nnewi and Onitsha.Anambra has the second highest number of international markets in Nigeria only second to Lagos.Anambra is currently witnessing massive(i mean very massive) investments all over the state.Anambra has the best of schools in Nigeria which is evident in the students they produce.Anambra has the best inter-community/town roads in Nigeria(best road network) although most of the roads are single lane.Anambra has the highest number of banks in South-east.Only Onitsha has 80+ banks which is more than the total number of banks in each of the other south-east states(check www.naijaguru.com for confirmation),Anambra has the highest number of small, medium and large scale businesses in South-east and second in Nigeria after Lagos.Anambra has the highest number of white-collar jobs in south-east considering that it is the state with the highest number of banks, schools(primary, secondary, higher institutions and vocational institutions )both private and government, then hospitals. In all sincerity, the Enugu international airport was built to serve Anambra and not really Enugu as their travelling population is so low.Enugu's population are mainly students and civil servants who rarely travel outside the country.Anambra has the highest purchasing power in the south east and maybe first in Nigeria by percentage and second by population.Anambra is the least poverty state in Nigeria in all honesty. The need for an International airport in Anambra is so intense and getting more intense daily. They and all Igbo people need it to attain a very huge potentials of theirs and a river port to attain their full potentials. So many good tidings about Anambra state. We as Igbos should be happy about these as we are getting our own world-class economic hub and not attack Anambra people bitterly.Any attack should be on Anambra government to improve on infrastructural facilities to absorb all these developments..Thumbs up to Aba too as it is steady representing economically

By 2020, Anambra alone will be generating about 3000 MW of electricity through indigenous investments. Chicason Group alone is building a 1500 MW, Anambra Govt is building 80 MW, I can't remember the company, it is building another 1500 MW.

When you add those in Aba, SE will produce about 5000 MW before the end of 2021.

How many companies are closing in the East? Near zero.

IGR means tax. Why do we need to raise taxes when SE debt is 7.5% of that of the 36 states plus FCT.

We don't need to tax our people, at least not now. If I tell you how much Ariaria makes as IGR you won't believe. It is too poor.

I believe SE tax policy is premeditated.
Also, many Anambra businesses are not paying tax due to poor taxing system in the country. Some illegal bodies also get in the way of tax collection.Tax evasion and tax crimes must be tackled and urgently. If that is done,Only Lagos will be generating more IGR than Anambra while Anambra will be standing shoulder to shoulder or even generate mor IGR than River state and Ogun state.Anambra is really doing incrediblly well economically, just that the activities there are not well publicized for those that have not visited to see.Purchasing power of Anambra people should be second to Lagos or number one in the entire country. It might sound sentimental or unbelieveable but that's true

Anambralstson:
Onitsha and Nnewi

Let start with Nnewi, Nnewi is the second largest city in Anambra State, development of Nnewi market propelled the fast development of the local economy.

Nkwo Nnewi Auto spare parts industry started during the Civil War. By the early 1980’s, manufacturing of autos, spare parts and other goods were added to the economy. These industries have survived over the years due to the quality of their products. Their market shares have increased tremendously in recent years. Today, Nnewi accounts for over 23% of products in the Nigerian market with respect to motor vehicles and motorcycle spare parts.

As a fast developing city and a major industrial and commercial hub in Africa, Nnewi experiences voluminous financial activities, therefore hosts major banks, and other financial institutions. Industries are dotted around the city and adjoining towns. Palm oil, cosmetics, motor, and motorcycle spare parts, books, and stationeries, textiles, electric cables, and so on are produced in commercial quantity in the area. Its main trading centers include Nkwo Nnewi market (the largest spare parts market in west Africa) and Nwafor market, Eke Amaobi market, Eke Ochie, Eke Ichi Market, Orie otube Market, etc.

Nnewi self made city
We always make mistakes by thinking the term ''Nkwo Nnewi'' refers to only one market. As a matter of fact,Nnewi has three major and well defined markets with some other importers markets and community markets. The List of markets in Nnewi are..
1.Motor parts market
2.Machine parts market(new parts)
3.Nkwo market(that sales varities of products including food stuffs, clothes, drugs, costmetics etc)
4.Plant parts(located just near the machine parts. It sales brand new generators and its parts)
5.Nwagbara market(It sales second hand motorcycles and its parts. It also houses so many motorcycle engineers)
6.Nwafor Uruagu market(it sales varieties of food stuffs and household items. It holds every for days which is the afor day except on sundays)
7.Eke amobi market(Holds every eke day except on sundays) etc.
Let's not use because of the term ''Nkwo Nnewi'' to think Nnewi has only one market. It is just that all of the major markets are located very clsoe to one another
