CultureRe: Is The Igbo Language Dying? by MegaMan87: 9:13pm On Oct 14, 2011
ChinenyeN:
Youth in diaspora have even picked up speaking the language, and some people are here talking about "Igbo is dying". Youth in diaspora are even motivating themselves, greeting in the language, referring to each other by their non-English names, and even learning to write it. Yet, some are still here talking about "Igbo is dying".

What's more, I myself can say and write all of this without a dop of English, and they're saying that "Igbo is dying". Just kommot.
Common, come off it. The Igbo in the diaspora are the main offenders of allowing their language to die. The parents just don't want to teach their children. You keep convincing yourself that Igbo is alive and kicking. Most people with their head screwed on know better cool

I urge God to help a nitwit such as you to forget the path to your forbearer’s homestead. You shall forget your miserable past to a point someone has to remind of your damnable surname. I pray you shall be removed from your memorable past.
I rebuke it. God will not punish those that are not evil. Intsead he will punish you and every one of your offspring for your evil intentions.

As far as I'm concerned the Repuclic Of Biafra thing was a fantasy dreamed up by self serving Igbo who cared only about themselves. If you Igbo want to create your own fantasy country then please pack all your bags, collect your yahoo interent cafe scammer boys, collect all your get rich quick schemers, collect all your useless women, collect all your gun toting kidnappers and go to another part of the world to make your country. Because it will NEVER happen on Nigerian soil. I would feel nothing if you people left Nigeria. NOTHING. It would finally rid us of the core amount of scammers & kidnappers. Please go & do Nigeria a favor.

Aslong as Igbo play the victim and bring up the Biafran war (WHICH ENDED 40 YEARS AGO) they will remain unfortunate and lost. Is it a good thing to remain in the past for eternity? Shameless people.

So if the ibos keep bring up the biafran war, the yorubas should just shut up because according to your thought process, the ibos lost a lot and as such are entitled to pesist in boring us silly with stories of "genocide", "starvation", sheer revisionism ati bebelo, etc etc.

Fyi, we yorubas lost a lot too maybe not on the same grand scale as the ibos but yes, we suffered many losses too. However, the war was not our war. we never wanted war whereas the ibos wanted war and did everything possible to make sure that the situation would not be resolved through dialogue.
I'm tired of this also. Igbo continually try and play victim by bringing this up and I've had enough. IT'S THE IGBO THAT WANTED WAR. They got it and look what happened. I've had just about enough of their "poor me" blame attitude. It' getting to much now. angry
PoliticsRe: Why The North And West Hate Igbos So Much? by MegaMan87: 5:15pm On Oct 14, 2011
I don't hate Igbos. I DISLIKE crooked Igbo 419 boys that make ALL Nigerian men look bad. I DISLIKE Igbo kidnappers that run rampant. I DISLIKE Igbo akata gang bangers from America that come on here sprouting off at the mouth yet most of them can even speak a sentence in Igbo. I DISLIKE lazy Igbo women that only spend time if you give them money (which I dont). I DISLIKE the fact that many of them are too lazy to teach their own children their native tongue. They would prefer their children to speak English or Yoruba. As a Yoruba man I look upon that as shameful. We Yoruba are proud of our traditions. Why aren't Igbo proud of there's?

Can you imagine how many Igbo people hate their own language so much they punish their children for speaking it? Honestly it disgusts me. I love my country and everything about it but the Igbo are a thorn in the side of many. Igbo have scammed ALOT of people. They are always ready to do something crooked in order to get rich.

Igbo people moan that Yoruba and Hausa people exclude them from politics. When will they stop looking to blame others?

I'm sure I'll be called a "Tribalist" because that's all the Igbo do when people speak the truth. Call people "Tribalists". It's like African Americans that scream racism every two minutes. Igbo people do exactly the same. Their laziness and crookedness knows no bounds. I'm from Nigeria. I live in London at the moment  but I actually visit my country very often like alot of Yoruba do. I'm not saying what I'm saying due to sterotypes. I've actually witnessed alot of this.

The main truth is that it is not only our Language that is dying, our culture is too. That is why some programs like Odenigbo has been put in place. Our people have a saying that *Obodo na efu-efu, na achi ochi, anaghi efu fo ofu onye* Even here around me, most parents bring up their kids in English and you dare not speak Igbo to their Kids, else na wahala you dey find. The bitter truth is that only 10 percent of Igbos can speak good igbo language without mixing it up with English. In the near future, if things still continues this way, I dnt tink there wld be a Language called Igbo.
Thank God there is a honest Igbo person on here. Why won't any of your Igbo friends just admit the fact that their language & culture is dying? Why will they continue to blame the Yoruba for all their problems? It's not my fault that we yoruba are proud of our traditions. It's not my fault that my parents taught me Yoruba (like most Yoruba parents do) and there's didn't teach them Igbo. It's not my fault that Igbo muscians like TU FACE and many others have been known to sing in Yoruba and not Igbo lol. It's not my fault that Igbo filmmakers aren't proud enough to make fims in the Igbo language. Why do the Igbo want to blame everything on other other people?

Abeg, Igbo need to look at the lazy parenting and and attitude many of them have. This has nothing to do with "Tribalism". You don't see me saying anything about Hausa people. Igbo need to stop using tribalism as an excuse anytime a Yoruba person asks them a simple question. The fact that so many Igbo don't know their own language well but alot of them can speak YORUBA brings complete shame on them. lipsrsealed
CultureRe: Difference Between Being Black In The Uk And Being Black In The Us by MegaMan87: 10:48pm On Oct 13, 2011
Most Blacks that live in the U.K are either first, second or third generation Africans or Carribeans. They know their roots. They know where they come from.

Most Blacks in America are American. They've been there so long most can't be bothered to find out where they orignally come from. Their culture is American culture, Whatever American culture is.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure there are Blacks in England that have been there for hundreds of years due to slavery but I've never met any. Most of the carribeans went over there in the 50's to help rebuild the country after the world war 2. Africans started going there soon after.

P.s. I've been living in London for some time now.
CultureRe: Are Africans Proud Of Black Americans? by MegaMan87: 9:34pm On Oct 13, 2011
I do occasionally keep an eye out on what Nigerian Americans are doing as I have family there. But as far as African Americans on a whole, NO. What's my business with a bunch of lazy akatas and Jamaican gangbangers? When I lived in New York the Jamaicans astounded me wit their laziness. So many of them were sit on the stoops outside the buildings and smoke marijuana all day. They absolutely reeked of it. The women were mostly the same. Loud & ghetto. I wasn't impressed. The local African Americans were mostly hoodlums that refused to go to school or do anything constructive.

Alot o them lived on welfare. Something we don't get in Naija. It's weird how they can be content with doing nothing. It's not a mentality I can ever get used to considering that growing up my family worked just as hard as everyone does in Lagos just to get what we need. And if your from Naija or Africa in general you know how difficult the struggle can be. The welfare thing just bafles. As much as AA's complain about living in the "ghetto" they have no idea how truly lucky they are. You don't get freebies where I'm from.

Also, I was shocked at the amount of women that walked around flaunting their bastard children. How can you have two children by two different men and none of the men have stuck around shocked ? AH!! I don't know with African Americans, I really don't know.

The gangsta rap culture IS the African American culture. It has African Americans by the balls. From the sagging  trouser. To the slang/ebonics. To the horrible  and aggressive attitude. These kids want to grow up to be like the local drug dealer instead of a doctor or scientist. Can people see how bad that is?

However I will say that I did met some very nice, warm and friendly African Americans.
It's just a shame that the bad ones seem to be like a immovable dark cloud over them. It feels like everytime I went to a club that had akata in it a fight would break out. Near enough every time, seriously. In my culture that type of thing is frowned on.  That's why when we had the Naija indpendence day in New York back in 2007 we didn't want the akata to come because they did we feared they might start fighting in the club and ruin things.

Guy shut your Dog Breath and yap your nonsense on things you know about.
The peoblem I always have with a lot of you Yorubas is the way you just sit in the SW and assume the whole of Nigeria and the world revolve around the SW. How many Yorubas do we actually have outside of the SW region in comparison to the itinearnt Igbo people. How many real Igbo families that do not reside in the SW region do you know that have childrien that can speak Igbo?
You think Yoruba people are the only ones that are proud of their language? Seriously, a lot of you need to travel outside your SW zone to other part of Nigeria, so you can make informed argument from the stand point of what you have experienced outside of the SW and not what cases whose results are very glaring to see. If the case was that Igbo people both in Alaigbo and outside do not bother to instill their culture, language and way of life on their childrien and wards, your uninformed argument would have been in context but to drag it to reckless generalization is to trivialize issues and indulge in the stoopid, mindless jingoism that has become NL's lifeblood and Seun's own strategy of generating internet traffic to his site.
Besides, I find your colourless humour of Igbos being bullied by Yoruba laughable, unless you made that statement to make your feel good about yourself, I would rather you give us instances of such bullying. You know better than to just make stooopid statements just to boost your badly bruised ego. Igbos are intimidated yet they have fearlessly entered every nook and cranny of Nigeria to do business, live with the locals, even learn their language and culture and you want to talk about being Bullied?? Until I go see any Yoruba man for the remotest part of alaigbo doing his thing and living averagely well like most Igbos in Lagos then your claims of bullying are at best placebo therapy to help you with a false sense of abilities you do not have but only wish for.
Common shut your silly mouth you've never washed. I was simply stating a home truth but of course you couldn't take it could you? Igbo are too lazy to learn their own language. This isn't the case of "big bad yoruba pickin on poor old igbo again". It's actually what is happening. You got it spot on when you said Igbo people go and learn other peoples languages. Why then should they not learn their own? Why do most Igbo musicians sing in yoruba? Why don't Igbo filmakers make films using the igbo language? I'll tell you why, because most of the EBO actors/actresses don't even know the igbo language ha ha grin. They would rather speak English and put on a silly american accent or go and speak yoruba in yoruba films. We Yoruba could make films speaking English but why should we? There's no pride in that at all.  Sorry, but it's the truth. Why do Yoruba need to travel outside of Yorubaland? We TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD. We are everywhere and most of our parents teach us to be proud of yoruba and to either speak it or understand it atleast. Further more, why do Igbo people move into yoruba land? It's because they can't be bothered to do stay in SE where kidnappers and 419 boys run amok? Why is it they'd rather come to Lagos and live with us, speak OUR language? You Igbo can slam on about Lagos being "cosmipolitan" all you want but everyone knows that Lagos is the home of the yoruba. It's situated in SW not SE. No matter how many of you flood into the city like rodents.

Abeg, take your crybaby act elsewhere. I have no time for riff raff. lipsrsealed

The only place where the Igbo Language is dying is in your feverish mind. Your exaggerations are at best childish and alarmist. I was born and raised in Lagos, I can speak all three languages-Igobo, Yoruba and English equally well and so are many others of my kind. While I don't dispute that there are a lot of Igbo kids in Lagos that do not speak Igbo very well, however, uneccessary exaggerations like your claims of many Igbo kids that can't speak or understand come in Igbo only shows your are not representing facts but mere sentiments.
The only time one can honestly begin to scream about the gradual death of Igbo Language is if there are cases of childrien born and raised in Alaigbo who are oblivious of their culture and language. All this uneccessary alarm about kids who grew up in places like mushin, oshodi and the likes surrounded by core yoruba lower class people who speak nothing but Yoruba even at their school is no indicator of any death in Igbo language. Go to the Southsouth and Southeast before jumping to uninformed conclusions.
Ahhhh, typical Igbo. Instead of facing up to your problems you lash out and attack the messenger.  If you can't open your eyes and see that the Igbo language in Nigeria and ESPECIALLY the diaspora is disappearing then you are a complete fool. Most so called Igbo outside of Nigeria can't speak a word of their native language. Ask some of your "African American" Igbo chums to speak for you. Most of them think they're Jamaicans anyway, trying to change their name to sound "trendy". Can you imagine ha grin. Guess who's to blame for it? The lazy parents who are out scamming people probably. Where's the pride? Igbo in Nigeria should be ashamed of themselves. I can't count the amount of igbo that come around us talking in yoruba and listening to what we are saying but when we ask them to speak their native language they don't even have a clue what to say. , .AND THIS IS IN NIGERIA. Yet again I ask, Where's the pride?

I know being the Igbo person you are, you will bury your head in the sand about the issue and talk a torrent of other nonsense. Good for you. You and your people are lazy and always have been. Teach your children your actual language. Advise your igbo akata friends in America to learn the language of "their people" instead of aspiring to be gang bangers and gangster rappers. Save your people the shame lol cool grin

The Super Eagles aren't worth time anymore. They used to give me hyper tension but as soon as I realised that they didn't care about my country I forgot about them. They don't have the heart to play for Nigeria. They will have an enormous sense of self entitlement that doesn't match their play on the pitch. They don'tmatch up to the great super Eagle teams from 1994-2002.

Can you imagine that idiooot Osaze Odemwingie had the nerve to blame fans for his poor performance against Ghana? Common, shut up you lazy ibo idiot.

Totally disagree. I'm Yoruba and most Nigerians in the U.K are Yoruba. It makes me feel good to have my people around me when I'm not in Nigeria. I enjoy London. The weather can be horrible at times but knowing there are so many of us out here I never really fell alone. I can't speak for everybody but London is definitely the place I will live when I'm away from home. I was out in the states for a bit but I was disheartened by the amount of igbo akata out there. I didn't really feel they were Nigerian so I don't enjoy my time around them. U.k is the place to be for Nigerians in my opinion.#
London is quite expensive but did you really expect any different? Common jo, stop complaining and work for what you want and need.

Free Healtcare says it all. I think people need to stop being ungreatful and be thankful for where they are at. There are people back home that are much worse off.

It's so sad. Even the ones that can speak the language prefer to speak Engli-Igbo(joining English & igbo together)
This makes it difficult for others to learn properly.
LOL grin. I really laughed when I read that. I know Igbo people just like that. They struggle to speak in igbo for a minute so they have to piece together there language with English to save them embarrassment grin grin. When we hear Igbo talk like that we just laugh to ourselves.

I know that Igbo will come on here and play the victim. they will say that Yoruba are just bullying them again but that's how they always say. I'm telling you. if a Igbo woman can't speak her own language I won't even consider being with her. I need a prideful woman in life. Not akata.
CultureRe: Is The Igbo Language Dying? by MegaMan87: 1:48pm On Oct 13, 2011
I don't blame the EBO though. Have you seen there movies? They try their hardest to put on a ridiculous American accent (which sounds horrible). They try and speak in American ebonics "hell, yeah homie" or "kiss my ass man", "I'm a bad b*tch nicca". Where do people talk like that except Igbo Land loooooool?!
CultureRe: Is The Igbo Language Dying? by MegaMan87: 1:26pm On Oct 13, 2011
YES IT IS.

And it's solely down to the lazinesss of the IGBO people. I know Igbo people that understand Yoruba better than IGBO lol. What type of nonsense is that? Igbo people are to busy trying to give their children fancy English names because they think it's "trendy" cheesy. That's why it's hard for me to look upon Igbo people favorably. It speaks alot of your character when you can't even be bothered to learn your own language that your ancestors spoke proudly. Most of the "African Americans" on NL are IGBo and ask any of them if the can speak IGBO or if there parents taught it to them ha ha.  Of course they don't. In Igboland it's fashionable to behave like akata. grin grin

Every other Yoruba I know out here in London either speak the language or ATLEAST understand it. My parents instilled that Yoruba pride in me and the rest of brothers & sisters. Most Igbo parents don't even bother. It's a shame on their people. If the language dies it's up to them to resurrect it. Aslong as there's a Yoruba man/woman breathing whether in Nigeria or around the world breathing our language will be spoken and respected. Look at places like Brazil & Cuba where they still speak Yoruba.

The IGBO have no excuse. They should show a bit of pride, that's if they have any of course!!!

I generally find Yoruba women to be more outspoken and headstrong. That's what I like in a woman. My mother was just like that as was my Grandmother before her. I find Igbo women to be lazy and money hungry. They will only be "submissive" to you if you shower them with gifts & cash. They are very promiscuous on top of that.

To be honest I find the Igbo people to be lazy in general. They would rather be kidnappers or 419 boys instead of honest workers. Most of the horrible reputation Nigerian men have for scamming lay at the door of the Igbo. They are legendary for get quick schemes. there women see this and follow like sheep.

I live in London. I just came back from USA, I was out there for a year and I was absolutely shocked at the amount of "African American EBO" people that didn't even know the Igbo language. I can't believe how badly they have dropped the ball over there. Most Yoruba people I met in the States could either speak it or ATLEAST understand it. Most EBO couldn't even do that. Ask them to speak in Igbo and most will be dumbfounded.  Lazy EBO parenting at it's finest to allow your children to behave like uncouth akatas. that's why their language is almost dead.

Ibgo are just very lazy people.
