Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have received a major boost as Sergio Aguero, Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy returned to training ahead of their Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash with Tottenham on Tuesday night.

Aguero sustained an injury in his side’s Premier League win over Fulham few days ago, while Walker was taken off at half-time during City’s FA Cup semi-final 1-0 win over Brighton last weekend and Mendy had a long-term knee problem.

Speaking ahead of Man City’s Champions League clash with Tottenham, Guardiola told the club’s official website that the trio will be assessed after this afternoon’s open training session, but believes they should be fit enough to face Spurs.

“Aguero feels better. He trained with the team for the first time and he feels better,” Guardiola said.

“Now we will train. They make a recovery.

“Kyle feels better, we will see now [how he is], and Benjamin recovered well.

“I think they are contenders for tomorrow.

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has singled out two of his summer signings as the most improved players in his squad this season.

They are midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.

The Gunners took a major step towards a return to Champions League football, with a 2-0 win over Newcastle on Monday, to move up to third in the Premier League table.

Emery’s side have demonstrated outstanding home form throughout the campaign and several players have emerged as key figures in their side.

But Emery has singled out Torreira and Guendouzi as their most improved players.

When asked who is their most improved player, Emery told Copa 90:

“We are 25 players, and can only play 11, 18 in the squad, it’s very difficult to give everyone an opportunity to improve.

“There are some players maybe you can see this year this improvement – Lucas Torreira, Matteo (Guendouzi).

“The first time in the Premier League, in this difficult competition, and they are improving I think well.

“Maybe also sometimes the experienced players help them to do better, with their adaptation to the Premier.

“For me also I think it’s these two players.”

Wolves have confirmed they will sign on-loan striker Raul Jimenez on a permanent deal, for a fee thought to be in the region of £30m, smashing their club transfer record.

The striker has signed a four-year deal at Molineux having been on loan at the club from Benfica this season.

He is Wolves’ top scorer with 15 goals, which has helped fire the club to seventh in the Premier League and Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Watford.

Mexico international Jimenez spent three years with Benfica, scoring 22 times in 101 games after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2015.

The signing of the 27-year-old takes Wolves’ spending to around £164m under owners Fosun and they have broken their transfer record five times.

Adama Traore and Jonny were the previous biggest deals at £18m after signing from Middlesbrough and Atletico Madrid respectively this season.

Forward Cristiano Ronaldo went off injured as Portugal drew their European Championship qualifier against Serbia.

Ronaldo was substituted after appearing to injure a hamstring after 31 minutes.

Serbia led at the time after Dusan Tadic’s early penalty but the hosts equalised through a spectacular 25-yard strike from Danilo Pereira.

“I’ll know more in 24 or 48 hours,” said Ronaldo. “It happens. If you go out in the rain you get wet. I’m calm, I’ll be back in one or two weeks.”

His club, Juventus, are 15 points clear at the top of Italy’s Serie A and face Ajax in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The first leg takes place in Amsterdam on 10 April, with the return leg in Turin on 16 April.

Euro 2016 winners Portugal have begun their defence with two draws at home in their qualifying group after being held to a scoreless draw by Ukraine on Friday.

Portugal thought they had a penalty when the referee pointed to the spot after the ball hit the outstretched arm of Antonio Rukavina from Andre Silva’s close-range header.

However, after conferring with an assistant, the official reversed his decision.

The hosts were lucky to finish the game with 11 men after Pepe, who was booked in the first half, caught Tadic on the ankle in the 57th minute, but he escaped further punishment.

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has redeemed his promise to the U-23 side, following their 4-0 win over Libya on Monday evening.

The team were trailing the Libyans 2-0 from the first leg last week and needed a resounding win to qualify.

Musa promised to pay N1million per goal scored.

Victor Osimhen grabbed a hat-trick and laid on the assist for the last goal, as the U-23 Eagles marched to victory.

Former Media Officer of the senior Eagles, Colin Udoh, has confirmed that the former Leicester City winger has sent the money.
