Business / Re: Forex: Naira Depreciates Further On New Investors Window by Mekusnwa: 11:50pm On May 13, 2017
The CBN's forex policies succeeded in bringing the Naira down from $1:N520 to where it is today.

Give it time people. It will go down eventually once the full dose of government policy kicks in.
Investment / Re: Central Bank Of Ghana Issues Fraud Alert On MMM Ghana by Mekusnwa: 11:46pm On May 13, 2017
This reminds me of how the Central Bank of Nigeria was swift to issue warnings to protect Nigerians from the scam when it reigned here. I remember how MMM people rebuffed every warning and carried on 'investing', claiming that the CBN had joined the long list of bad bele people who didn't want the common man to benefit from MMM and live large. Lol.

When the pyramid finally collapsed, they blamed everyone except themselves for their luck.

Ghanaians should take heed now.

Business / Re: CBN Injects $388.66m Into Foreign Exchange Market As FCMB Increases Sales To by Mekusnwa: 11:38pm On May 13, 2017
Bukkyade:
The CBN is doing a very delicate job to get the economy out of the doldrums. It has to maintain the balance between stimulating economic growth and fending off inflation by applying policies that will keep the Dollar rise in check and encourage local production simultaneously.

There are no hard and fast rules to get out of the current situation. The earlier we admit this simple fact, the better. When oil prices plunged, the economy contracted as expected. The CBN's response has stopped things from getting worse. Blaming the Bank for the recession and ignoring the clear evidence of recovery is similar to passengers in an aircraft whose pilot successfully landed the plane with no serious harm blaming the pilot for the turbulence and accusing him of not landing the plane more gently.

With all the negative comments on this thread against the CBN, one can conclude that many Nigerians do not grasp the reality that things could have been worse without the CBN's intervention.

Thank you very much.

I have been reading through this thread to gauge the level of awareness of just how serious the situation would have been without the CBN's intervention. It was good to finally read from a Nigeria who grasps the issue better than most.

Politics / Abia: Between Old And New Orders. by Mekusnwa: 10:23pm On Dec 25, 2014
With leading political parties concluding their primaries at the state and federal levels, the race for 2015 is virtually underway. As candidates for various positions file out, the clamour for change, seems to be the underlining message among those seeking to take over from the existing order.

While some chorus change because it is fast assuming the status of cliché at political seasons, others push for it on ground that the existing order may have either outlived its usefulness or is currently self-serving.

The old order, expectedly, has not been relenting. Essentially given to the established arrangement of entitlement politics that guarantees patronage from the system, it gradually develops a lechery tendency that sees it permanently sucked to power, not for reasons of service but for personal enrichment. In a bid to sustain the parasitic attachment to the public till, those in this class, easily resort to treating the neglected and traumatized citizenry with the mantra of consolidation and continuity. In going about the odious theatrical, there is always the tendency to flaunt some hastily contrived and inflated projects to befuddle the people. At the end of the day, however, the state is left poorer in terms of ideas and infrastructural development.

This, in a way, is the story of Abia. Created 23 years ago, the state has not really moved at a pace that many had expected, considering its human capital and material resource endowments. Within this time, the last 16 years adequately falls into a period that it can be said to be at its lowest turn.

Thus, as 2015 politics sets in, two tendencies are on display in the state. On one hand, is Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who obviously represents the old order. On the other hand is Dr. Alex Otti, the flag bearer of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who projects the new face of Abia.

The two candidates come on board with their individual profiles. Both are intellectuals that had recorded varying marks in their fields. Ikpeazu had been a teacher and lately the face behind Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA). As a lecturer, he may have performed creditably. But as ASEPA boss, given the poor sanitary conditions of major towns in the state, especially Aba, the state’s economic nerve centre, his performance rating is adjudged below average.

Ikpeazu runs on the roadmap of consolidating on the achievements of the departing administration of Governor Theodore Orji. At each turn in his outing, he has spoken on continuing with the policy initiatives of the administration. On the face value, there is nothing wrong with continuity as a phenomenon. It depends on what legacies to be continued. But one thing Ikpeazu has not succeeded in telling Abians is what next he has to offer aside, perhaps, continuing with Orji’s projects that are basically concentrated on Ogurube Layout, Umuahia.

His blue print for developing other parts of the state, is hardly convincing. Besides, he is yet to come out with an economic agenda that can wean the state of the paltry monthly federal allocation from Abuja. The other time for instance, he was reported to have blamed the poor revenue and infrastructural base of the state on oil companies operating in it having their headquarters elsewhere.

What critical stakeholders gleaned from that disclosure was that he was lacking in clear agenda at repositioning the state, except, depending on the monthly Abuja allocation and incidental taxes on oil companies in the state, if he ever gets elected.

It may be on account of this apparent lack of definite agenda for Abia that Ikpeazu has been running his governorship campaign on the sentiment of power shift to Abia South Senatorial district – an area that comprises a large chunk of the Ukwa-Ngwa sub-clans of the state. However, in lashing onto this frenzy, he deliberately downplays existence of the Ngwa in the Central Senatorial district of the state, which also lay genuine claim to the office. He also forgets that Ukwa a major part of the said Abia South is greatly marginalized by the fact that his brother of neighboring villages hold the party’s Senatorial ticket while he is the gubernatorial candidate of the same party.

With the campaigns gradually setting in however, perceptive observers are ex-raying the contents of each candidate’s agenda. The Abia South Senatorial district issue is for instance, paling to insignificance, given that the two candidates are from Ngwa. Besides, allowing Ikpeazu to run away with the devious scheme, would amount to shortchanging the other constituting units of the Zone, given that he hails from Obingwa, the same local government area with Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who has been handed a return ticket to the upper lawmaking house by PDP.

Also, his consolidation theory is being torn to shreds by the highly enlightened Abia citizenry on ground that sustaining the current regime of inaction which he represents for another four years, would amount to instituting a legacy of stagnancy in the state.

This is not the case with Otti. In academics, where he comes across as a First Class economist, his credentials are quite intimidating. In his last calling as Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank, he set a standard that remains a benchmark in the industry. Industry experts recall, for instance, that in his first three years in Diamond, Otti focused on steadying the bank, which, reeling from the effects of the global financial crises of 2008/2009, had declined in size, and lost market share to competition. By the time he was through with his turn-around engineering, the Bank had bounced into reckoning as one of the sure-footed financial institutions in Africa and beyond.

He has pledged replicating the feat in Abia, throwing to the fore, his discussions with International Finance Corporation (IFC) on agenda at re-engineering Aba. He is well known to the international financial community and would leverage on those connections for the state.

But besides the lofty economic blue print that will readily sell him to the average busi ness conscious and politically sophisticated indigenes and residents of the state, the fall-out of the recent PDP primaries which left some frontline aspirants bruised, would work in his favour. These aspirants and their supporters, who felt chiseled out of PDP politics, are joining forces with him in rescuing the state.

Otti, though excited by the daily influx of supporters to his aspiration, however maintains that the task of fixing the state, requires sacri fice. Service to Abia, according to him, is the force driving his aspiration and not an exercise in personal enrichment. He has thus, asked those having the assumption that politicians go to Government House to enrich their pockets to have a rethink, stressing that his is diferent because he has strategies that would take the state to another level.

The APGA candidate, by this declaration, seems to have hit at the very heart of the state’ selectorate, who now see him as the man to beat. They only advise that he puts on ground, strategies that would protect his votes against rigging at the February 28, 2015 governorship poll.

Fantastic job he did at Diamond Bank, but twas FBN's Strategies he took there when He couldn't emerge GMD.

Have U asked yourself if he (Alex Otti) is really an NGWA Man? Reason he couldn't make the PDP's final list and hence his defection to APGA, a dead party in Abia where Akomas and the rest could even win an Election.

The primaries which took place in Aba Road with a peaceful and well cordinated manner lasted for hours, after which the exercise was concluded and the votes were counted, making Dr. Otti the winner of the exercise with his delegates and supporters cheering him with songs and praises.

Politics / ABIA 2015:the Leader We Need. by Mekusnwa: 8:21am On Oct 21, 2014
A leader may be defined as a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal.
Microsoft CEO, Bill Gates defines a leader as a person who empowers others. The late Warren Bennis opines that a leader is one with the capacity to translate vision into reality.
From the foregoing, a leader can be said to be someone who has followers or a group of people he directs and empowers to achieve set goals.
As the 2015 elections beckons, it is not hard to see that our dear Abia State is in dire need of quality leadership. The achievements of the current administration have shown that with focused, committed and result-oriented leadership, Abia can be elevated and positioned to truly be "God's own State"
It is against the backdrop of the above that Dr. Alex Otti is offering himself for service to our dear Abia State.
Dr. Otti holds that a leader is someone who is ready and willing to sacrifice and serve others to achieve goals. He is also of the view that a leader should be able to empathise with the people always. A good leader should be able to create ideas and impact positively on the lives of his people. He believes a leader should be accessible and interact with his followers,to enable him or her know the complaints and suggestions of the masses.
In his life and career, Dr. Otti has demonstrated quite clearly a culture of hardwork, diligence, excellence, exemplary leadership qualities and glittering success with a trail of awards, and distinction. This explains his rise to the peak of his chosen profession as the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of  Nigeria's foremost financial institutions, (Diamond bank Plc),and I am convinced of his capacity and ability to bring these quintessential values to bear on the governance of the State.
In recognition of his achievements which he has won numerous awards locally and internationally.
These honours include; USAfrica Best of Africa 1st international Banker of the year 2013, in which he was described as one who has empowered Nigerians/Africans and Americans in the banking sector and international business, and also as someone who through executive leadership and scholarship embodies the core goal of US and Africa in flying the distinctive flag of the Afican professional class in the diaspora and globally.
Zik prize in professional leadership category by the Public Policy Research and Analysis Centre(PPRAC) in 2013.
Only recently, he was conferred a honour by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck E. Jonathan as Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
On the home front, he is the holder of the prestigious "Ugwu Ngwa of Ngwa land" title.
All these and so many others are the indicators of his good leadership and abilities  to his profession and humanity.
Dr. Otti has always sought to give back to the society in so many ways, which include; scholarships, building schools, attracting funds for public developments ,and helping businesses and manufacturers to grow in their financial capacities.
Dr. Alex Otti is very much required in Abia state government house to help move the economy of the state forward with his good leadership qualities,as he won't come to rule, but to establish a government that will be driven by goal and the thoughts of the masses.
A man of these status and traits should be given the opportunity to serve the state as our governor with his enormous leadership qualities and knowledge for the advancement of our state because if he can do it in the banking sector, then he will lead us better in Abia State.
Politics / ABIA 2015: Abians Need A Technocrat As A Governor In 2015. by Mekusnwa: 7:53am On Oct 14, 2014
Our dear state since its creation in 27th August,1991 has experienced leaders who have contributed their wealth of knowledge to the growth and development of the state. However,at this point we need a change, a paradigm shift from the normal business as usual,as we draw closer to a new electoral year in 2015. Abians must be wise and selective in making a choice of who becomes the number one citizen of the state.
We must carefully take the following pressing needs into consideration for a better state;
The number one citizen must be a man with a humble background and good up bringing, which also includes a good track record in his area of specialization. A man we can entrust our resources with,to help maximize profit.
Abians need a man with high network of investors and developers both internationally and locally, who will help to build our state and create more jobs for the unemployed.
We need a man, who can transform our subsistence agricultural state to a commercial agricultural nerve centre to the Nigerian economy, whereby we don't have to consume all we harvest in a farming season. Our farmers need to be suppliers of agricultural produce to willing manufacturers for finished goods.
Education brings development in every society, therefore we need a man that can upgrade our educational status and produce graduates who can compete with graduates in developed countries. We need our own Obafemi Awolowo who will make education free for the populace.
The mortality rate during child birth is on the rise in our state due to lack of good medical attention and equipment in our hospitals,so we need a man who can stand up to the challenge and build us modern and well equipped medical facilities in every part of the state.
Traders and local manufacturers are folding up their businesses and relocating to other states due to lack of basic amenities and grants to help them survive and operate effectively. We need a man who will build a modern industrial pack ,where the small business owners will strive better and perfect their trade. The good old days of BATA and over one thousand shoemakers in Ariaria, should be reverted in a better way.
Our rural areas need to be provided with basic social amenities (roads, water, and other critical infrastructure)to make life easier and better for the occupants of such areas, and also upgrade our towns and cities to a very comfortable levels.
Science and Technology is known to be a part of life and Abians can not be left behind in the moving train,as we need more science and technological inputs in the state to enable the people appreciate life better and also help the young generation acquire more knowledge.
Waste management should be made a priority in the state to ensure a healthy society. A functional waste management agency should be put in place to ensure clean and healthy Abia.
Most importantly, we need a fund manager as our governor. Someone who can create wealth and  make good use of our revenue in the right directions to better the economy of our state,we need a man who will run the state as a business and and not as a political jamboree ,thereby maximizing profit with true accountability.
An appraisal of the gubernatorial aspirants will reveal that only one man has these qualities to carry out the onerous task of ensuring a truly God's own state and that man is no other person than our own illustrious son, Dr Alex Otti, who has excelled in so many aspects of his life and profession as an Economist and a seasoned banker. For Dr. Otti, excellence has always been a way of life. He capped his academic pursuits with a first class honours. He was also and best graduating student of his set at the University of Portharcourt. He has had an enviable career spanning across four of the Nation's most prestigious financial institutions,City bank of Nigeria,UBA, First bank and Diamond bank where he rose to become MD/CEO.
Today, these banks stand among the best banks in the country. He has helped individuals, states and companies improve their financial strength. He is a humanitarian and an achiever of high status, known and recognized both internationally and locally. With all these attributes and qualities, we all can attest to the fact that Dr. Alex Otti is fit for government house come 2015.

This is a president who is pioneering transformation in every facet of our national life. He has taken power reforms to another notch by Privatising power assets and upgrading the national grid. Apart from the remodelled Enugu Airport, GEJ completed the Owerri-Onitsha which OBJ abandoned in 2006.
GEJ has also remodelled the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri.
GEJ has completed construction of Alaoji power station in Aba and will soon commission it.
GEJ has rehabilitated some bad portions of the Enugu-Ph road(especially the Aba-Umuahia axis) and just recently awarded the total reconstruction of that road.
GEJ has been working and rehabilitating the railways from Port Harcourt to Enugu. Passenger services is set to commence soon.
GEJ has built a new federal university in Afikpo, EBonyi State.
GEJ has finished and completed the Onitsha ports which is awaiting concessioning.
GEJ has engaged PPP to deliver on the long awaited 2nd Niger Bridge.

GEJ has done excellently well in the south East and we will vote for him in 2015

It is not true. President Jonathan has done far more than what any other president did for Bayelsa and Nigeria in general.
In less than 3 years as president, GEJ has built a new university for his people. Intervened in Kolo-Nembe road and working seriously on the East-West road that traverses bAyelsa.

As we speak, FHA has started the construction of 2,000 housing units in Bayelsa. There is a new Law school campus in Yenagoa.
The Gbarain NIPP power plant is 90% completed and due for commissioning soon. A lot of federal projects are ongoing in Bayelsa.

You forgot to add the new international Airport that FG has awarded in Bayelsa. By the time GEJ is through in 2019, Bayelsa will be a choice destination for oil/gas investors and businessmen.

Politics / Re: BREAKING: Jonathan Replies Obasanjo, Says Letter Self-serving, Provocative by Mekusnwa: 12:33am On Dec 12, 2013
Bukkyade: As far as I'm concerned, Obasanjo should not be mentioned in the same breadth with Jonathan.
President Jonathan is by far better than Olusegun Obasanjo. President Jonathan has performed far better than OBJ did in every department of governance and i don't need rocket science to prove this.

1. Power Reforms. Obasanjo stole Millions of dollars from Excess crude account in the guise of NIPP Power plants. None was completed till Jonathan came to office. In less than 3 years, GEJ has completed and commissioned over 5 power stations.

2. Agriculture. Throughout Obasanjo's stay as president, faint regard was given to Agric reforms. He was just busy appointing Northerners to siphon Agric budgets without no policy directive. You can't say the same of Jonathan's govt. the Agric Minister Adeshina is really pursuing reforms to the extent that he was awarded Times Man of the year for Africa.

3. Transportation. OBJ grounded our railway system totally before he left. But GEJ is the one now reviving those moribund rails and laying new tracks. Lagos-Kano is now running.

4. Education. OBJ funded education below 300B throughout his tenure. GEJ has jerked funding in Education budgets from OBJ's meagre 300b to over 450B. In addition, he is committing additional 200B to ASUU which OBJ never did. GEJ has built 12 new universities and over 185 Almajiri schools in the North.

5. Works. Every major road in Nigeria is receiving attention under Jonathan because of the poor state in which OBJ left them. We all know how Ore-Benin road used to be under Obj. but GEJ is now doing it. Roads like East-West road were awarded by Obj and abandoned but GEJ has taken over to fund it to a great level. The same goes for ABJ-Lokoja, Kano-Maidugri Dualisation and Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
GEJ is the one now working on all of these roads.

6. Aviation. The state of our Airports under OBJ was a hideous eyesore. OBJ raised 100 Billion intervention fund without no single turn around of any Airport. Today the story has changed, We have now witnessed the remodelling of 22 Airports including the building of a new General Aviation Terminal in Lagos. Enugu Airport now hosts international flights etc

The reality is that supplementary elections are holding in Anambra on Saturday. They have no option than to participate or forever hold their peace. APGA is on ground in Anambra state and will win that election any time any day.
If Ngige truly believes that he is popular in Idemili, I don't see any reason why he should not go home and contest.
