Marjoribanks: You missed the point. Iwobi was touted to be poor at long balls, i corrected that opinion with actual data. It will always be a good thing to come at people's opinion, arguing what is being discussed, staying in the context of the discussion rather than saying what is in your head, and in your head alone. |

Anyone coming out to say that Iwobi is poor at long passing, has more to know about the Super Eagles midfield and midfielders. In the match against Saudi Arabia Iwobi recorded 5/6 accurate long balls, the same as Ndidi. In the match against Guinea Bissau Iwobi recorded 6/10 accurate long balls. How does the aforementioned stats represent a player poor at long balls. While he may not be the best at it because of the likes of Kelechi Nwakali, he is certainly not poor at it. Iwobi is a complete midfielder, meaning he can dorn the DM, CM and AM roles satisfactorily. 3 Likes 1 Share |

We missed Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Osimhen, I will keep harping how important those are to how we play until we get their replacements. Moreso we miss Kelechi Nwakali. Kelechi Nwakali, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, are are keys to how we play in whatever phase of play we may find ourselves In my ideal lineup, from the left wing to the midfield to the right wing: Chidera Ejuke - Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Nwakali, Alex Iwobi. 3 Likes |

Meliforme: REASONS WHY WE SHOULD CONTINUE IN 4-4-2 TACTICAL SETUP 1. To have more men in the finishing phase of attack. The paucity of bodies in the finishing phases of our attack was one of the problems Gernot Rohr faced that opted the switch to 4-4-2. With two strikers occupying the opposition CB's, the inverted wingers seeking to cut in to shoot and the presence of overlapping fullbacks produces more body in attack, and in many instances of it can create an overload in the finishing phases of attack. 2. 4-4-2 tactical formation is very dynamic The buildup to finishing (goalscoring) is shorter in 4-4-2. Teams that opt to go with a lean midfield, teams going into the game as the underdog, can decide on a 4-4-2 for a quicker route to goalscoring while retaining a good defensive shape, that is without compromising on defense. Ekong's and Omeruo's longballs to Moses Simon during the last AFCON tourney is a good example. This feature of 4-4-2 does not mean that teams seeking for good buildup prior to goalscoring cannot utilize it, it however presents a dynamic feature of 4-4-2 and possible adaptations. 3. It is easier to maintain a defensive shape using 4-4-2. Teams coming into a game to defend more, teams with shaky defense, may decide on a 4-4-2 with play patterns that may intend to conserve the midfield etc 4. It appears we have trained and rehearsed more using 4-4-2. In the game against Mozambique, our cohesion and communication improved when we switched tactical formation to 4-4-2. |

THE REVELATIONS OF THESE FRIENDLY MATCHES 1. Calvin Bassey Calvin is indisputably the number one revelation of these friendly matches. His positioning has transitioned from mediocre to excellent. It was not just his duels, tackles, interceptions and other actions that involved defending, but his passes of the ball. He is a genuine ball playing defender. From well calculated short passes, to play progressive long balls, to creative passing. He is a defender that can create goal scoring scenarios. He alongside Iwobi affected very well how we played against Madagascar when they were both subbed in at the second half. You can see that he doesn't just defend, he is a controller as well as an attacking threat. He has a similar playing style to Kenneth Omeruo whom many of you do not rate. Both know how to command their area. If Bassey continues on this trajectory for club and country, then he is definitely world class. 1 Like |

TheSuperNerd: Wonderful. I believe that one of the reasons we always deploy 4-4-2 is to maintain a good defensive shape given the obvious loopholes in our defenses. I believe we can achieve more defensively and even offensively in a 3-4-2-1, with Bruno and Osayi providing the width on the left and on the right respectively as wingbacks. In my understanding, they; Bruno and Osayi interprets the wing role better than the guys we normally station there. 2 Likes |

We have the pool of players capable of winning any match with any country in the world. What we seem to lack are the brains required to design good wins. While i will admit some positives about Peseiro, he seems to lack the cutting edge. Even though we appear more tactically drilled under Peseiro, but he is yet to truly impress me in a way that can inspire real hope. Going into AFCON 2023, our chances of qualifying from the group stage is 50:50. I am a confirmed optimist, but to achieve good results we have to face facts. We may stand a better chance in the offing, but as things stands Jose Peseiro has not really shown that he has what it takes to lead us to glory with the quality of talents available to him. I will speak further on this after the friendly matches with S. Arabia and Mozambique. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Mujtahida: Cut the lies and face the truth. I hate hypocrisy. Is Chukwueze and Simon better passers of the ball, do they bring more defensively, are they faster. They can do more my foot. Nonsense and rubbish. If Peseiro desires let him not invite Ejuke and Nwakali. It was on this thread that after seeing Peter Olayinka, touted him to start instead of Moses Simon on the left against Egypt, save for team chemistry, because of the obvious limitations that we have in these current wingers. Eguavoen did not dress Ejuke for the match against Tunisia. Nwakali who was starting from the bench brought stability, control and creativity more than the midfielders that were starting ahead of him. These players will never be appreciated and we will keep paying for it. |

Mujtahida: Ejuke brings more passing to his game. Ejuke brings more control. Ejuke contributes more to defense. Ejuke reads the game better and is more intelligent. His positioning during defensive transitions and offensive forays, tells a lot. Ejuke is also faster. The aforementioned makes him more effective as a winger in Peseiro's preferred 4-4-2 set up. Moses Simon Is another winger that fits in the preferred 4-4-2. He contributes to defense, has speed and good passing skills. Chukwueze has also improved in his interpretation of the wing role. However what we have in most of the players we use as wingers are actually strikers operating from a wide position. This is where Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon excels the most. They have speed, good dribbling ability, and can score goals. What singles Chidera Ejuke out, is how dynamic his play can be. He is not a player that relies on just receiving the ball and putting up the finishing, he is a player you can count on to help build up plays. |

TheSuperNerd: If you have taken the time to read how Royal Antwerp play, you will conclude that we don't have wingers with skill sets that can do what Balikwisha does for Antwerp. As far as Balikwisha is fit, he will always start games. Except our wingers improve in those skill sets. |

TheSuperNerd: Piss poor may not be the right clause to describe Ejuke's decision making, you may rather use not as quick as it should be. This is anchored in the fact that Ejuke is not yet the team player that he should be, If he sorts out his team play, his decision making will improve tremendously. Ejuke makes movements that can distort his team's attacking structure, this is not good, it shows a player bent on his own ideas (this is understandable if he has been given the free role, but he hasn't) Ejuke has shown in many occasions that his decision making is not as piss poor. It is normal for Chidera Ejuke to top the assists chart at his his club whenever he has a good run at starting games. I have never seen Ejuke pass the ball to a player in a tight space - this is good decision making, rather he is one who receives the ball in a tight space - wiggles himself out and gives the ball to an unmarked player, which will sometimes see him switching plays with long passing just to get to a free player. |
