A coalition of Northern youth groups has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately replace former Rivers State governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi as ministerial nominee before his alleged corruption baggage dents the image of his administration. Speaking on behalf of the coalition on Monday, its leader, Comrade Abdullahi Gambo said the youth had nothing against Hon. Amaechi, but would not sit back to watch the good name and integrity of President Buhari being dragged in the mud over any ministerial nominee, including the former Rivers State governor. According to Comrade Gambo, the coalition acknowledged the immense contributions of Hon. Amaechi to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Buhari’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer, and eventually, as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not withstanding, no case of corruption should be covered up no matter who was involved. The coalition said it agreed with Senator George Sekibo from Rivers State that the nomination of Hon. Rotimi Amaechi should be suspended until the conclusion of the ongoing probe of his tenure as governor by the current administration of Governor Nyesom Wike. “For 72 years, President Muhammadu Buhari has built his integrity and incorruptible character and remained above the board. It will be unwise to sacrifice his integrity on the altar of political compensation. This is why we are calling him to resist all pressure and replace Hon. Rotimi Amaechi without further delay. “The thrust of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is its anti-corruption crusade. Nigerians’ confidence in that crusade will diminish if Mr President continues to appoint people with corruption questions to answer into his cabinet. http://scannewsnigeria.com/news/corruption-allegations-replace-amaechi-now-northern-youths-tell-pmb/ |
The best thing that happened to Nigeria since independence is the emergence of the #WailingWailers..... If not for us, the senile old man would have made himself the petroleum minister..... #proudlyAWailingWailers |
Emerging reports have revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari will not occupy the office of Petroleum Minister as earlier speculated. According to a report by The Oil and Gas Year, an unnamed spokesperson for the presidency confirmed that the President Buhari would leave the portfolio vacant while playing a supervisory role. The said spokesman, who spoke to Bloomberg on Monday, October 12, 2015, was quoted as saying: “There will be no petroleum minister. Maybe he will appoint a minister of state, which is a junior minister. It is yet to be known which of the Presidential Spokesperson gave the revelation as the President has Garba Shehu and Femi Adesina acting as official media aides to the President. Shehu is the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity while Adesina is the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. http://www.thetrentonline.com/buhari-says-he-wont-be-petroleum-minister-anymore-but/ |
Former Baylesa Governor, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha died in a Port Harcourt Hospital on Saturday, October 10, 2015 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Pro-APC news media carried the news last week that the British Government had re-opened its case against Alamieyeseigha and extradition request had been made to President Buhari. To the extent that some of them, in announcing his death had mentioned that he died because he was fearful of being extradited to the UK where he would have been jailed. Sahara Reporters in an obituary for Alamieyeseigha Saturday reported, “The former Governor returned from Dubai recently as it emerged that the government of the United Kingdom requested his extradition over an unfinished corruption and money laundering cases. The request, which had been criticized by Ijaw groups loyal to the former Governor, was seen as a political vendetta by the President Buhari Administration.” These reports were ignited by an interview granted to Sun Newspapers by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, in which he said that Alamieyeseigha has an outstanding case of money laundering to answer in the UK. “The former governor skipped bail in the UK on a charge of money laundering and returned to Nigeria. So, he has an outstanding charge in the UK, which is there for him to answer,” the envoy remarked. we have already discussed it and the Nigerian government knows our views. But we would like to see him return and answer the charge in the UK,” Pocock maintained in the interview. APC chieftain and chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, was quoted in the media saying that “President Buhari-led government is prepared to assent to the request of the British Government as the United Kingdom has every legal right to demand for the extradition of the former Bayelsa State Governor”. Prominent Ijaw leaders and groups in reaction to his death have accused the All Progressives Congress and the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari of hounding the man whom his affectionately called, Governor General of Ijaw Nation to death by pursuing after him to extradite him to the United Kingdom to face crimes of which he had been convicted, jailed, and released in Nigeria. Upon the death of the former governor and agitations from Ijaw groups and leaders that his death is connected to these reports, United Kingdom’s High Commission in Nigeria has swiftly denied that its government had re-opened the case of money-laundering against Alamieyeseigha and that there was any request before Buhari to return the former Bayelsa Governor to the UK to face charges. The High Commission called the reports “a rumour in its entirety” and there was “no renewed move to reopen the case” and said that the Nigerian media got carried away by the interview granted by the British Envoy to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock because there was a new government. Excerpts from the ThisDay report below: A senior officer of the Commission, who spoke confidently and on anonymity on telephone in Abuja, said the information is a rumour in its entirety, adding that the Crown Prosecution has not tabled any extradition request on Alamiesyeseigha, to the High Commission. While responding to whether it is true that that the Crown Prosecution Service of UK, has made any formal request for Alamieyeseigha’s extradition, she said the Crown Prosecution Service more often do not often give or confirm information on such matters. She however disclosed that there is no renewed move to reopen the case. “As you know, the immediate past High Commissioner, Sir Andrew Pocock, before he left Nigeria, had in an interview averred that the manner in which Alamieyeseigha escaped from UK, made him a wanted a person. “But as you know and with the new government of President Muhammdadu Buhari, in place, the media is presenting it as if the UK has said that we need this man. There is no such thing as moves for his extradition or of anybody or organisation to recall his extradition to UK,” she said. “Like you know, the media find such issues interesting. They just jumped to and start publishing the way they like, without clarifications from the High Commission.” In September 2005, Alamieyeseigha (then the Bayelsa State governor) was detained by the London Metropolitan Police on charges of money-laundering. http://www.thetrentonline.com/alamieyeseigha-uk-high-commission-denies-presenting-extradition-request-buhari/ |

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kogi State Chapter Alhaji Hadi Ametuo has appealed to Kogi State citizens to elect his party’s gubernatorial candidate Prince Abubakar Audu promising that the N11 billion allegedly embezzled by the former governor while in office will be returned to the state. Ametuo made the appeal while addressing newsmen after the Eid el-Kabir 2015 prayers. He rated Prince Audu Abubakar’s first term in the office more than the current government of Capt. Idris Wada. He said that Prince Abubakar Audu deserves the votes of the people of Kogi state due to his experience and achievements in his first time at the Lugard House. While responding to questions from the press men regarding Audu’s N11 billion naira EFCC case, he said “Nobody is a saint. No governor can claim he has not done any malpractice or stolen anything during his time in the office, we heard of Saraki case, even Tinubu is being accused of stolen funds but the truth is that Prince Abubakar Audu has pledged to return the money to the Kogi treasury when he gets elected on the November 21st, yes he will return the N11 billion naira or even more than that and that will add to the Kogi economy.” Prince Abubakar Audu is being prosecuted by the EFCC for misappropriating N11 billion of the states’s funds while he was governor between 1999 and 2003. The EFCC is prosecuting Prince Audu Abubakar and his co-accused for offences bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of public funds to tune of N10,965,837,040 (Ten billion, Nine hundred and Sixty Five Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Seven Thousand and Forty Naira) they were arraigned on March 18, 2013 on a 36-count charge. Asked if he is aware of the sufferings and deaths the stolen funds has brought to the people of Kogi State, he said, they will not have to suffer any more if they elect Audu on November 21, 2015. http://www.thetrentonline.com/apc-says-flagbearer-audu-will-return-n11-billion-loot-elected-kogi-governor/ God help us in this country............. |

Contrary to claims by the Nigerian presidency that a meeting at the 70th United Nations General Assembly to discuss the humanitarian crisis posed by the activities of the Boko Haram terrorist group was unofficial, PREMIUM TIMES can authoritatively report today that the meeting is a “high-level” one convened as one of the most important events of the ongoing United Nations annual summit in New York. The meeting tagged “High Level Event on the Lake Chad Basin” held Friday at the Conference Room 1 of the United Nations headquarters in New York. It was convened by Stephen O’Brien, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General of Humanitarian Affairs and held as part of the of the UN Sustainable Development Summit, which opened Friday. “The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA, is an arm of the United Nations secretariat and a meeting organised by it on an issue threatening Nigeria’s existence cannot be described as unofficial,” said a respected Nigerian diplomat who requested not to be named so as not to anger the Muhammadu Buhari administration. The diplomat believes President Buhari should request Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Joy Ogwu, to explain why her office failed to identify the meeting as one of the key ones Nigeria should have attended at the ongoing summit. “This is definitely a diplomatic blunder,” the diplomat said. “It portrayed us as an unserious country and the President should bring culpable officials to book rather than offer tepid excuses.” Reuters was first to report the Nigeria’s non attendance at the meeting convened to principally discuss an issue affecting Nigeria the most. “But while the radical Islamist militants operate out of Nigeria and U.N. aid chief Stephen O’Brien said that is where most people have been displaced by their attacks, Nigeria did not send anyone to the United Nations event,” Reuters reported. “U.S. and European Union diplomats said they were disappointed that Nigeria did not attend the event chaired by O’Brien on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.” The Nigerian presidency, in a statement Saturday, however, claimed that “The meeting at which Nigeria was reportedly absent was not one of the official events of the United Nations for which President Muhammadu Buhari and his modest delegation are in New York”. But contrary to attempts by the government to downplay the importance of the meeting and portray it as low level engagement, organisers and diplomats say the gathering was one of the most important meetings concerning the destructive militancy and terrorism ravaging Nigeria and its neighbours. Aside top UN and EU officials, as well as heads of international nongovernmental organisations who participated, the meeting was also attended by the Prime Minister of Niger, Brigi Rafini and Chad’s Foreign Minister, Moussa Faki Mahamat. A brochure of the meeting listed “High level representation from the government of Nigeria” among the panelists expected to speak at the meeting. Due to its importance, the meeting was also broadcast on official UN online television and radio channels. At the meeting, the UN Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mr. O’Brien reminded the world to pay attention to the Lake Chad Basin, now an epicentre of “violence and terror” where children as young as six-years old have been used as suicide bombers and the scene of the fastest-growing displacement crisis in Africa. “A quarter of a million people have fled across borders,” told the high-level meeting. “Many have walked hundreds of kilometres from Nigeria to Cameroon, Chad and Niger, in the most appalling conditions.” Mr. O’Brien, appealed to countries in the region to give relief workers access to those in need and also called for urgent financial contributions to the under-funded operations. “If we disregard the huge scale of humanitarian needs, we could all pay a high price,” he said. Describing the people in the Lake Chad Basin, which straddles Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger, as “some of the poorest and most resilient in the world,” the top UN humanitarian official said “now the region has also become an epicentre of violence and terror.” “The emergence of Boko Haram has pushed them over the edge,” he said. “Over the past five months, a sharp increase in attacks by Boko Haram has uprooted 500,000 children, bringing the total number of children on the run in northeast Nigeria and neighbouring countries to over 1.4 million.” He described the “appalling impact on women and children, who are being abducted, abused, raped, exploited, trafficked, and forced to work as porters and lookouts,” and “children as young as six years old have been used as suicide bombers.” “With so many other humanitarian crises on the international agenda, we hear relatively little about the horrors taking place in the Lake Chad Basin,” he said. “And yet this is the scene of the fastest-growing displacement crisis in Africa, with 2.3 million people forced from their homes since May 2013.” Mr. O’Brien warned that the future of the region, where business activity is reportedly down by 80 percent, “looks even bleaker, as farmers are unable to tend their fields and trade in some areas is at a standstill.” UN agencies like the World Food Programme, the UN refugee agency and the UN Children’s Programme (UNICEF) echoed Mr. O’Brien in presenting a grim humanitarian picture of the region and appealing for greater international support to their efforts to reach those in desperate need. As a fallout of the meeting the Nigerian government dismissed as “unofficial”, the United States announced $6.8 million in funding for regional aid efforts.... http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/190652-fact-check-nigerian-govt-lied-un-meeting-it-failed-to-attend-not-unofficial.html morning... |

double0seven:Good job Mrs Buhari. But herein lies the problem with Buhari. In the process of getting to Aso rock, he will reach there all tied , indebted and indentured to his sponsors. The 135million was not from his campaign fund or his personal funds since he had to get a loan of 27 million for his forms. Its either his sponsors in PH, Lagos and Yola would get their pound of flesh in the first 2 years leaving him without goodwill to ‘fight corruption’ or he will have to fight his way against them in the first 2 years, dropping their ministers. Either ways, he will now need a 2nd term where they would have their revenge like they having on sleepy Go Jo. Remember 1999 ? Like a bad habit, here we go again OBJ part 2. |
