Hello,
I live in an estate and my septic tank fills quickly compared to that of my neighbors. I have called a plumber to empty it to the bottom numerous times but notice water seeping in from beneath.
I would love if someone that have had this experience or is knowledgeable in the field share the remedy to this please.

My proffessional point of view is that the soak away pit is doing it job... but the septic tank isn't... Septic tank should be well plastered and dress to avoid sorounding water seeping into it.. You should have take notice of the water table in your site when doing foundation... this will guide you when doing septic tank ... so when the engineer designs, he could advice reinforce concrete, or normal concrete or solid filling the block holes..
SOLUTION
Best advice is for you to wait till dry season when the water table is down... aand let a bricklayer help see how he can reduce water seepage by replastering or pure cement controlling or water proof adhesive sealant... all depend on the condition he meet...

Rule of tomb... always consider the water table in your site during wet season to adequately cater for design of septic tank...

No ma. I actually used C35 Concrete Grade (1:1.5:2.5 Cement/Sand/Aggregate)

Beam Depth: 500mm
Span: 5400mm
Column Width: 450mm
Column Height: 2550mm

As a colleague of structural Engineer.. I wonder why you spent so much material on a residential gate. You must have your reason... the reason is what we all want to hear.. Even industrial gate sliding gate I designed 10meter width and 4.5 meters high only gupped 20bags of Cement.. 1:2:4. Also from the pics, you use gravel instead of normal granite. why use gravel when you want to attain rich concrete mix...

But for residential house of yours, are heavy duty cars or machines the reason you used 500mm depth of beam.. please sheild more light to this... Before bricklayers start quotting 28bags to install gate now on nairaland ... smile

this is a swamp and not a land at all. Is it safe to build a house on such swamp? Even if you sand fill the swamp, what about the water beneath the soil? Think again about it to avoid sinking house in the future.

That is not a problem.. Eko Atlantic is built on the sea .. the client knows what he bought and he is ready to face the job needed to get stable ground for foundation... (pile or raft foundation). He is also to engage a good Geotechnical engineer and structural engineer to solve the stability of the building.. But a rule of thumb... if your account is not fat enough.. avoid this kind of land.....

As a structural Engineer, any type of joint used in design is good and well calculated for.. Using gusset plate or welding or bolt and nut are all good ways to connect structural members.. the design is what matters... Some are designed to be movable or rigid.. it all depends on the Engineers design... so, saying using gusset plate is the best form of joining members isn't a good structural advice because gusset plate are still welded to members...

Well this is really no big issue except where the welding of the joints or braces are not good.

Most residential tank projects will survive without one provided the welding of the joints, beams (secondary/primary) are good.

However, if there’s need to add the plates then it can still be introduced by cutting the braces.

There are also plywood/metal gussets for roof trusses. It’s not only used for steel structures alone.
