A Mararaba Upper Area Court, Nasarawa State, yesterday,
sentenced a 36- year-old man, Benjamin Ogbeji, to one year
imprisonment for beating up his wife and calling her a prostitute.

The presiding officer, Vincent Gwehemba, however, gave the onvict an option to pay N8, 000 fines, and warned him not to lay his finger on his wife again.

“If your wife does anything that is provocative and you
felt so bad about it,
there are many ways you can handle the issue, but not by beating,” he said.

Ogbeji, a resident of Expo 1 Hotel, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, had pleaded guilty to a four-
count charge of
criminal force, intimidation, mischief and defamation of
character.

He urged the court to temper justice with mercy.
The prosecutor, Donald Herman, had told the court that on April 14, he was ordered by the court to bring to station
the wife of the convict, Janet Ogbayi of Ado New Karu, Mararaba.

Herman said on April
16, at about 9 p.m., the convict who happened to be her husband, came to her rented house at Ado New Karu, Nasarawa State,
beat her up and called her prostitute.

He said that the convict after beating the complainant, damaged her fridge, television, TV stand, generating set, centre table,
stabiliser and standing fan all valued N137,000.

PoliticsGood News: USA Will Return Huge Part Of Abacha Loot To Nigeria by Michaeluzomam(op): 8:01am On Apr 18, 2016

The United States of America has decided to return to Nigeria about $480m (N95bn)
considered to have been stolen by the late head of state, Gen.

Sani Abacha and his family.

The Nation reports that the conditions for the
return of the money are still being discussed.
The Department of Justice in the US launched a Kleptocracy Unit, which will help to
track looted funds and money diverted by public officials from
Nigeria and other
nations.

The scheduled repatriation is the result of the recent meeting between the
Department of Justice and the Attorney-General of the
Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) and the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission
( EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu.

“This is the largest loot ever traced to a
former Nigerian public officer in the U.S,” said a source who asked to be anonymous.

“The DOJ, the AGF and the EFCC have concluded all the talks; we are
in the process of repatriation of the $480million.

“Although there are interventions from private lawyers, the DOJ prefers a
government-to- government deal.

“ I can tell you that the funds will soon be
repatriated. If there is anything left, it has to do with the
conditions which the US will attach to the utilisation of the funds.

“The US is likely to advise on specific areas to spend the funds
on and the project
monitoring mechanisms. It
does not want the cash re-looted.”

“The Federal government and the U.S. on January 14, 2003 signed the
Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal
Matters between the two nations.

So, no corrupt public officers from Nigeria can hide in the US.

“At the session with AGF and the EFCC boss, they told the Nigerian
team that the
DOJ now has Kleptocracy Unit which is closing tabs on Political Office Holders
and other public officers in this country and
many other nations.”

The USA had during the last years launched
forfeiture proceedings
against the Abachas.

The transactions made it realizable for the Abacha family and its
companions to confiscate over $550million and £95,910 in 10 accounts and six
investment portfolios linked to them in
France, Britain, British Virgin Islands and the
United States.

The Criminal Division of the Office of International Affairs of the US Department of
Justice, in a letter
to the Federal Government, identified
the accounts where Abacha loot was hidden.

The department underlined the accounts where Abacha loot was
hidden: Doraville
Properties Corporation –
$287 million in Account Number 80020796 located at Deutsche Bank International
Limited in the Bailiwick of Jersey; HSBC
Fund Administration
(Jersey) – $12 million in account number S-104460 in the Bailiwick of Jersey; and
Rayville International, S.
A – $1 million in
account number 223405880IUSD
at Banque SBA in
Paris, France.
Others are Standard Alliance Financial Services Limited – $144
million in account 223406510PUSD at Banque SBA in Paris; Mecosta Securities – $21.7 million in
accounts 10030688 and
100138409 at Standard Bank in the United
Kingdom; and HSBC Bank Plc – $1.6 million in
account number 38175076.

Also listed are Blue Holding (1) Pte Ltd/ Ridley Group Limited –
£6,806,900; Blue
Holding (2) Pte. Ltd/ Ridley Group Limited –
£21,846,983; Blue Holding (1) Pte.
Ltd/ Ridley Group
Limited –£10,293,343.58; Blue Holding (2) Pte. Ltd/Ridley Group Limited –£56,962,996.26.

The Swiss government has in March this year
confirmed that it
has so far repatriated $723 million (about
N142.43 billion) of stolen funds taken from the
family of late Abacha to the Nigerian government over the last 10 years.

Only the government of
the ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo has
been able to record the
highest amount of US$ 1.25 billion from the Abacha loot.

The above regime of General Abdulsalami
Abubakar and the succeeding government of the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua
could not do much in this regard, however,
the efforts also made.

CrimeOMG! Woman Kidnaps Her Kids, Demands Ransom From Husband by Michaeluzomam(op): 4:09am On Apr 13, 2016
https://d1phczbdxyh8yo.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/13025725/brown-and-co.jpg
THE Rivers State Police Command has
arrested a woman, Mrs.
Abigail Brown, for kidnapping her two
children to get ransom from her husband.

Brown and her husband’s former driver, identified
simply as ThankGod,
were said to have kidnapped Abigail’s two
children and called the
husband to pay a ransom to secure their
release.

Brown initially denied the allegation against her, but later said
the act was not intentional.

She told PUNCH Metro that it was
frustration that made her to commit the crime, adding that she had no means of
survival.

She claimed that her
husband had abandoned her and the two children to suffer, adding that the kidnap
was the only means of
making some money from her husband.

It was gathered that
the suspect had abducted her two
children, aged two and 10 respectively, and hid them in her sister’s place.

She was said to be awaiting the ransom
from the husband before she was
apprehended by the police.

She said, “I did it because of frustration. My husband abandoned me and my children.

“Since he left us and went away, I have
been suffering with my
children, and I know that he has money.

“I only did it to make him bring money for me
to take care of the children we had together.”

It was learnt that the
suspect had demanded N6m as ransom to
secure the release of the two children.

She said, “I did not demand up to that
amount, but I demanded money from
my husband.”

ThankGod, the former driver to the
woman’s husband, who
accepted taking part in
the act, said his former
boss’ wife contacted him.

ThankGod said, “She called me to help her. She told me to take
the two children to her
sister’s place.

That is how I got involved. “She used me
to act as the kidnapper of the two children before we were
arrested. She lured me into it.”

Meanwhile, the state police command on
Tuesday paraded 146
suspected criminals in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the
command, DSP Ahmad
Muhammad, saidthe
suspects were arrested in separate raids by the police in
different communities of the state.

Muhammad, who paraded the suspects
on behalf of the
Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo, noted
that the 146 persons were arrested in
connection with armed
robbery, kidnap and cult related activities in the
state.

PoliticsFive Chibok Parents Received Calls From Missing Girls’ Mobiles by Michaeluzomam(op): 3:36am On Apr 13, 2016
https://d1phczbdxyh8yo.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/21005402/chibok.jpg

Adelani Adepegba, Abuja

Five parents of the abducted 219 Chibok schoolgirls have received calls from the phone numbers of their missing daughters, our correspondent gathered on Tuesday.

The parents who reportedly called back the lines were however told off by the respondents at the other end.

The Chairman, Chibok Community in Abuja, Tsambido Abana, told our correspondent that the community planned to report the incident to the government for investigation.

“Five parents informed me that they have been receiving calls from their daughters’ phones, but when they called back, the persons that responded said the phones were their own and that they should stop calling the lines. We don’t know if the network (telecom firms) had allocated the girls’ lines to other persons or if the callers were just playing pranks on the parents; we will report this to the government for security agencies to investigate,” Abana said.

The Chibok elder could not however confirm when the parents received the calls, saying he was just informed about it on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl identified as Fati, who regained freedom after spending two years in Boko Haram’s captivity, has explained how teenage girls volunteer to go on suicide missions in order to escape molestation and other forms of hardship under the sect.

Fati, whose name was changed to protect her identity, said young girls fight to strap on a bomb, not because they were brainwashed by their captors but because the relentless hunger and sexual abuse became too much to bear.

“They came to us to pick us. They would ask, ‘Who wants to be a suicide bomber?’ The girls would shout, ‘me, me, me.’ They were fighting to do the suicide bombings,” Fati told CNN.

“It was just because they want to run away from Boko Haram. If they give them a suicide bomb, then maybe they would meet soldiers, tell them, ‘I have a bomb on me’ and they could remove the bomb. They can run away.”

The teenager who was kidnapped from her village by the insurgents shared her experience with CNN at a refugee camp in Cameroon.

“We said, ‘No, we are too small; we don’t want to get married, so they married us by force,” Fati said, explaining that after he raped her for the first time, her abuser gave her a wedding present – a purple and brown dress with a matching headscarf that she would wear for the next two years.

While under his control, she explained that she was whisked from one hideouts to another hideouts in order to evade security forces. She recalled that she met girls even younger than her in Sambisa Forest, some of whom she claimed were the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.

“There were so many kidnapped girls there, I couldn’t count. There were always bombs and bullets coming from the sky. All of the girls were so frightened. All of them, they always cried and the men raped us. There is no food, nothing. The children, you can count their ribs because of the hunger,” said Fati, who is now in Minawao refugee camp in Cameroon.

Fati said, “Many girls are still in Sambisa, some volunteering to die so that they can perhaps live.”

The United Nations International Children Emergency Fund has said Boko Haram’s use of child bombers has increased over the last year with one in five suicide attacks now done by children.

In a report titled, Beyond Chibok, UNICEF said that boys abducted and recruited into Boko Haram’s ranks were forced to attack their own families to demonstrate their loyalty, while girls were exposed to severe abuse including sexual violence and forced marriage to fighters.

The UN report was released as Nigeria approaches the second anniversary of the kidnapping by Boko Haram of more than 200 girls from their boarding school in Chibok.

“Girls, who are often drugged, were behind three-quarters of such attacks committed by the militant Islamist group in Cameroon, Nigeria and Chad.

“It is an 11-fold increase with four attacks in 2014 compared to 44 the next year, including January 2016,” the report said, adding that the change in tactics reflected the loss of territory by the terrorist group.

UNICEF said up to 1.3 million children have been forced from their homes across Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and Niger.

A 17-year-old girl who was abducted and is living with her baby in a camp Maiduguri told the UN agency that she refused to marry despite death threats.

“Then they came for me at night. They kept me locked in a house for over a month and told me: ‘Whether you like it or not, we have already married you,” she narrated.

The horrors of social media contacts once again reared its head in Edo State as a female gospel singer identified as Yvonne Omoarebokhae, has been found dead in a hotel.

She died few hours after she had performed at a church programme organised in Warri, Delta State, by a Lagos-based pastor identified as Apostle Psalm Okpe of Fresh Oil Ministry, who she was said to have met on popular social networking site, Facebook.

Though the whereabouts of the pastor could not be ascertained as at the time of this report yesterday, unconfirmed reports claimed he is currently in police net and helping with investigation.

When contacted, the state police commissioner, Chris Ezike, confirmed the incident but refuse to say whether the suspect is with the police or not. He simply said the police was not looking for anybody as they have everything they need at their disposal to carry out the investigation.

Husband of the deceased, Odion, said his wife met Apostle Psalm on Facebook and after several months of chatting, his late wife was invited last week Thursday by the pastor to perform in Warri, Delta State.

He said Apostle Psalm claimed to have a programme in Warri, Asaba and Benin City where his wife was to perform. He said his wife called him at about 10a.m. last Friday that she would be home soon, but did not hear from her again.

“At about 9:30pm, the police used my wife’s phone to call and invite me to report at the Airport Road police station. I waited for more than two hours at the station until the police asked me to go home but I insisted on knowing the whereabouts of my wife. The DPO later told me that my wife was picked at an hotel in the GRA and rushed to the Benin Central hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

“I am yet to see the corpse of my wife to know what happened and who is responsible for her death. We have a three-year old baby at home,” he said.

Ezike said a post mortem examination will confirm the cause of death. His words; “It is under investigation. The man is married and the woman is married. Not until a post mortem is conducted, we cannot conclude what happened. I have asked the matter to be transferred to the State CID.”

Just a few hours
after her sister Khloe
blogged about having
sex for the very first
time at age 15, Kim
Kardashian decided
to talk about love
and sex during a Q&A
on her website's
livestream.

When asked during the live interview if she was a member of the mile high club, a common slang for
those who have had
sexual intercourse on
a flight, she simply
replied: 'Am I? Yeah.'
But she went on to
stress that she'd
only ever do the
deed on a private jet
and not a public flight, and never on a short distance journey.

'But like the private,'
she added. 'I don't
think like a public plane...It would have
to be an international
flight. It was an international, night
flight when no one's
like around.'

The wife of rapper Kanye West, then insisted that an aeroplane isn't the
craziest place she
has ever had sex.

'Like a public movie theatre, yeah,' The
Keeping Up With The
Kardashians star said to her assistant Steph who was reading out all the messages.

But she refused to
reveal if she shared
such moments with

CelebritiesLinda Ikeji Vs Wizkid: Who Laughs Last? by Michaeluzomam(op): 2:04am On Apr 12, 2016
https://leadership.24hubs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/WIZKIDLINDA-300x225.jpg
In the past few days, there has been no let-off in the war of words between singer, Wizkid and blogger, Linda Ikeji.

Many Nigerians who have followed the attacks by the duo on
each other in the social
media have expressed
utter disappointment at the use of ‘dirty’ words by Wizkid. Question is asked, should celebrities be provoked to the extent of using unclad words on personalities on air or in print? Michael Uzoma Michael writes on the rift.

An expose on Linda Ikeji’s blog about the palatial home of the music star in Lekki,
Lagos being on rental
started off the latest round of war between the now sworn enemies. Wizkid, it
was said, had before now claimed ownership of the home. Ikeji’s revelation obviously did not go down well with Wizkid who immediately fired back at the blogger, employing derogatory comments.

To say the use of such
words as ‘stinking pussy’ is obscene and offensive to many, is to state the obvious. Are these celebrities the kind of role models this country needs?
Wizkids response is not
justified in any way or
manner.

Notwithstanding their ages, our celebrities
should know that many
youths look up to them and there is, therefore, the need for them to be civil in their utterances and actions.

Our entertainers should
devise better ways of
responding to criticisms or negative press other than unnecessary display of tantrums and resort to abuses and use of inelegant words which diminish them
before right thinking and decent members of the public.

Quite frankly, it needs be stated that many stories around these entertainers are negative as they often
times bother on scandals.

Our musicians, in particular, will do their image good by employing professionals as public relations officers or consultants.

A well-managed artiste
obviously would have
reacted to Ikeji’s expose in a more civilized manner or
even in a light-hearted form and I bet the matter would
have not escalated to the point of being a general knowledge.

Even at the risk of being accused of taking
side, I dare say Wizkid is actually hurting himself with his unguarded and vitriolic
rants.

The musician’s allegation that his director not only
slept with Ikeji but had to abandon her in hotel
because her ‘private’ stinks caused a big lashback.

Though the blogger denied this allegation, many people have been hazarding a guess as to which of Wizkid’s directors could be behind the snitching of
Linda? Let’s look at the
directors that have worked with the Ojuelegba crooner:

1. Del B

2. Maleek Berry

3. Moe Musa

4. Sesan

5. Shizzi

PSquare has been on the path to a break
up since Peter Okoye, one half of the duo, posted a series of tweets in February,
decrying their brother Jude’s mismanagement
of their brand.

It wasn’t long before fans were placing
the blame squarely on
Lola Omotayo, Peter’s wife.

This would not be the first time the brothers will be engaged in a
spat (rumoured or public). The first time was when Peter was
noticeably absent at Jude’s wedding in 2014.

Lola was fingered as a culprit then in the brothers’ seeming bad
blood. To the point that Jude had to issue a
statement on social media, claiming all was good between him and his brother’s wife.

However, amidst all the rumours and actual
controversies, she appears to have continued living her life, lately posting a series of funny videos to
Instagram; most
of which she tagged
#dontsweatthesmallstuff.

When Dauda Yama retrieved his mobile
phone from a neighbour's house in
January this year, he
noticed a missed call
from his daughter
Saratu who had been
missing for almost two years.

The last time he spoke with Saratu was on April 14,2014, when she rang to say men from the Islamist group Boko
Haram had loaded her
and her classmates from the Government Girls' Secondary School in Chibok in northeast
Nigeria onto trucks.

Attempts to reach
her again failed and

for them to be found.

The students are
among an estimated
2,000 girls and boys
abducted by the Boko
Haram since the start of 2014, with many of those abducted used as
sex slaves, fighters
and even suicide
bombers, according
to an Amnesty International report.

But when Yama

to the home of Yakubu Nkeki, chairman of the Association of Parents of the Abducted Girls from Chibok.

PoliticsFederal Government Set To Publish Names Of Treasury Looters by Michaeluzomam(op): 2:15pm On Apr 10, 2016
https://tori.ng/userfiles/image/2016/apr/10/Muhammadu-Buhari.jpg
There are indications that the Central Bank of Nigeria is awaiting directive from the Attorney General for the Federation, before publishing the names of those that have looted the treasury.

A top official of the
bank on Saturday confided in a Punch
correspondent that
the publication of the
names of treasury
looters was one matter that apex bank was
approaching with
caution owing to the
litigation process
involved.

The source said since
the issue involved had litigation implications, there was no way the
apex bank would
publish the list of
treasury looters without first securing a clearance from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

When asked if the CBN had formally written to the AGF for clearance, the official said “that is
being handled at the
highest level.”

He said, “A lot of
things are being said
about the publication
of the list of treasury looters but one thing people fail to recognise is that this issue has a lot of legal implication.

“As an agency of
government, there
are actions that we
can’t just take on our
own particularly when it has to do with court cases.

“Take for instance
the issue of publishing the names of treasury looters, there is no way we can do that without
first getting clearance from the Attorney General.

“If the Attorney General says the
bank should go ahead
with the publication,
then we know that
we have a legal seal
that covers our
action.”

When contacted on
why the bank had
yet to publish the list
of treasury looters,
the Acting Director,
Corporate Communications,
CBN, Mr Isaac Okoroafor, told our
correspondent that
he had no information on it.

“What you are asking
me now is a high
level issue that I don’t have any information on for now,” he said and declined to comment further.

When contacted on
Saturday, Special
Adviser to the Attorney-General of
Federation on Media
and Publicity, Mr.
Salihu Isah, said he
did not have information on the
issue.

Isah said he had to
contact the minister,
Mr. Abubakar Malami,
first and revert to
our correspondent with the details.

But as of the time of
filing this report at
about 8.26pm on Saturday, no response was received from him.

Celebrities'ake' Movie Adaptation Of Wole Soyinka’s Book To Debut At Cannes Film Festival by Michaeluzomam(op): 1:49pm On Apr 10, 2016
https://static.pulse.ng/img/incoming/origs4902267/6951853409-w640-h640/Wole-Soyinka.jpg
The movie, now
translated to French,
will be shown first at
the Festival International du Film
pan African de Cannes which runs through April 16 to April 20.

“This film festival
holding in the city of Cannes focuses on
African works," He began.

“Since the film is an
adaptation of the world famous book “Ake”, one of the books that earned Soyinka the Nobel Prize in 1986, we
decided to showcase
it at the world stage.

“It is a scintillating film adaptation of one of the most captivating childhood reminiscences of all time.

“To make sure that
people understand and appreciate the story in France, we have to do the French translation.”

Speaking of the book from which inspired the film, Mr. Adeniyi said, “Aké: The Years of Childhood” is a memoir by Nigerian writer, Wole Soyinka, that was first
published in 1981.

“It tells the story of Soyinka’s boyhood before and during World War II in a Yoruba village in western Nigeria called Aké, where the author spent the first 12 years of his
life.

“It combines a beautiful child-view narrative technique with direct echoes from the war as heard or imagined
down in Ake, Abeokuta.

“It is a spectacle not
only for our time but
for generations to
come."

CrimeAccused Man Storms Lagos Court With 'juju'....read What The Judge Did by Michaeluzomam(op): 11:41am On Apr 09, 2016
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba on Friday adjourned the trial of a suspected fraudster when the accused was found to be in possession of objects suspected to be charms.

Chief Magistrate Omolade Awope had
observed that the
accused was feeling
uncomfortable and
jittery in the dock and ordered that a thorough body search be conducted on him.

Following the search,
assorted objects suspected to be charms were found
hidden under the dress of the 41-year-old accused, Ibrahim Umaru.

As a result of the shocking discovery,
the chief magistrate
deferred the trial of
the suspected fraudster to June 10.

Umaru, who resides
at Amodu Faronbi Street, Isolo, Lagos is
facing a three-count
charge of conspiracy,
stealing and obtaining
under false pretences.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde, had told the court that
Umaru and his accomplice, Sunday
Godwin, on Sept. 25,
2011 hypnotised one
Okunola Salau and
duped him of cash and jewellery worth N5 million.

“The duo also took
him home, performed
magical acts on him
and threatened him
not to tell anybody
otherwise he will die.

“Afterwards they kept on pestering him on phone to give them money and jewellery.

“Salau later gave
them gold jewellery worth N4 million before he later regained
consciousness,” the prosecutor said.

The accused had
pleaded not guilty to
the charge and had been granted bail in
the sum of N1million
and two sureties.

The accused had earlier been arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court before his case was transferred to the
Chief Magistrates’
Court sitting in Ogba.

PoliticsProbe Soldiers’ Arrest Of 76 Enugu Farmers, Igbo Youths Tell Buhari by Michaeluzomam(op): 6:01am On Apr 06, 2016
IGBO youths on the
banner of the Igbo
Youths Movement,
IYM, have urged the
President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal
Government to probe the recent arrest of 76 farmers in Ugwuleshi
community in Awgu
Local Council of
Enugu State over
plans to protest the
menace of Fulani
herdsmen in the
community.

Noting that the men
should have been
arrested by the police, the IYM in a statement by its Founder, Evangelist Elliot Uko, wondered why the 76 farmers had to be arrested by soldiers from a military base in Abia State.

Worried that the development if not
properly addressed
would set a very bad precedent in Nigeria, IYM said:

‘’The army should
not be easily drawn into policing, especially when
emotions are high
over the notorious
impunity of the Fulani herdsmen.

The decision to use
soldiers instead of
the police, was a wrong choice. Did the governors of both Abia and Enugu, specifically ask for soldiers t o cart
away the farmers?
Who gave the order
authorizing the military to wade in?
Why did the military
deny that they were
involved at the onset? Nobody believes the funny narrative of fake
soldiers in military
uniform and military
trucks; we think someone is trying to
cover up the obvious
use of the Army to
settle ethnic scores.

‘’We demand a thorough investigation to the use of the Army to round up and cart
away all the able
bodied young men in
Ugwuleshi village, over incessant attacks from Fulani herdsmen. Only a
thorough probe of
the incident and punishment meted
out to whoever ordered soldiers to invade the
community, would
assuage the feeling
of unjust intimidation and persecution,
pervading Ugwuleshi
and environs at the
moment."
