Militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, have reportedly agreed to dialogue with the Federal government to find a solution to the lingering crisis in the Niger Delta region. This development is contained in a statement released today by the spokesman for the dialogue group,

Ballantyne Agiri. The statement in part reads:

“The body has collectively and willingly agreed to heed the clarion call of eminent Nigerians and international community to dialogue with the Federal Government. The federal government should from the inception of the dialogue rule out from the agenda any monthly monetary inducement or stipend for the NDA.

The federal government should be ready for structural changes that should be human and development oriented. Members of the avengers’ group (who will participate in the dialogue) have already been selected, each based on his integrity, forthrightness, honesty and life track records. The names of members of the group for now shall not be made public for personal reasons until they begin functioning in few days ahead.”

Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, a trader in Ogun state has been arrested for naming his dog Buhari.

Chinakwe was arrested after one of his neighbours of Northern extraction complained bitterly that he named his dog after his father, Alhaji Buhari.

According to a report, Chinakwe told his friend to kill the dog and eat the meat as his accuser and his kinsmen reportedly threatened to kill the trader if he was released on bail.

A relation to the suspect, identified as Chiedozie, said Chinakwe was being persecuted for no just cause and expressed fears that he may either be poisoned inside police cell or thrown into jail.

“Chinakwe is a lover of dogs and he names them after things that tickle him.

He bought this dog a year ago and named it Buhari. Unfortunately, some Northerners, who dominate the vicinity where he resides misconstrued his intention and connived to take him up.

The complainant then claimed it was derogatory because his father answers Buhari.”

But a police source said “he not only named the dog Buhari but boldly wrote it on the body of both sides of the dog and was seen parading the neighbourhood dominated by Northerners with it.”

Confirming the arrest of the trader, the acting Police spokesman in Ogun state, Abimbola Oyeyemi said he was still trying to get the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of Sango for details.

“I have made enquiries. The man bought a dog and inscribed Buhari on both sides of its body. One Mallam lodged a complaint and when our men got there, we found out that it was true. You know such thing can cause serious breach of the peace and ethnic or religious unrest.

We are charging him to court for conduct likely to cause a breach of
peace.”

He added that; “He was arrested last Saturday and we are taking him to court later today (Tuesday) or tomorrow morning (today). You know an average Northerner will feel bad over such a thing. It can cause serious ethnic crisis or religious confrontation because when you are relegating such a name to a certain person, you are indirectly insulting him.”

But the spokesman said the dog will be used as evidence against the suspect; “The dog cannot follow anybody except the owner. We will use him as our evidence because he did not deny it.”

Nigerian Islamist group, Boko Haram has released a video purporting to show some of the 200+ kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls. Some 50 girls wearing headscarves are seen behind a Boko Haram militant who demands the release of fighters in return for freeing the girls, adding that some of the girls have been killed in air strikes.

According to BBC, the video begins with a shot of a masked man, carrying a gun, speaking to the camera. He says that some of the girls have been wounded and have life-threatening injuries, and that 40 have been "married".

"We don't want to do anything with these girls, our demand remains the same," he says in the Hausa language. "We want the government to release our fighters who have been in detention for ages; otherwise, we will never release these girls."

"They should know that their children are still in our hands,"

says the man whose face was covered by a turban in the video posted on YouTube on Sunday.

The video concludes with footage of bodies, said to be the victims of air strikes, lying on the ground at another location.

The militant also carries out a staged interview with one of the captives, who calls herself Maida Yakubu, in which she is apparently used to convey the group's message to the government.

"What I can say is that our parents should take heart," she says. "Talk to the government so that we can be allowed to go home."

Maida's mother, Esther, is one of several parents of Chibok girls who recently published open letters to their daughters detailing the pain they feel at their children's absence and their hopes for the future.

Police in Florida have arrested a 62 year old mother whose 6 year old son beat his 13 day old newborn babysister to death
after she left her children unattended in a minivan
Kathleen Marie Steele who previously starred in a US reality TV show called '55 and Pregnant' in 2011, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter in relation to the death of her 13-day-old daughter, also named Kathleen. Steele gave birth to
the baby after being artificially inseminated with preserved sperm from her husband, who died of cancer in 2011 Police said Kathleen left her three children-
the baby, her 6 year old son and her 3-year- old daughter- in the car for at least half-an-hour to run several errands when the attack took place.

It was learned that while the mother was gone the baby began crying, which annoyed the six-year-old.

Officials in Largo, Florida, say he then removed the baby from her car seat before 'flipping her multiple times back and forth, dropping her on the floor, slamming her head against the ceiling and striking her in the face multiple times. After the vicious attack, the boy put his sister back in the seat before his mother got back in the car.

Authorities said that when Steele returned, her son tried to tell her something was wrong with his sister, saying, “It’s serious.”

Steele at first ignored him and stopped at another store before noticing the infant’s injuries, cops said.

“I’m telling you this kid’s face was a mess,” Gualtieri said. “There’s no
mistaking the condition this baby
was in.”

The mother didn't call for medical
assistance until two hours later, after she had asked her neighbour, who is a nurse, for help.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri at a news conference on Thursday said:
"The skull was cracked in numerous places, described as probably mush ...
one of the worst things that I've ever seen.”

The baby was immediately taken to St Petersburg General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The boy allegedly told police investigators,

“Sometimes people make very big
mistakes.” And told them how he killed his sister, according to KHOU.

“‘I took the baby, and I slammed her like this, and slammed her down, and pushed her up into the ceiling.’ What he was talking about when he pushed her up into the ceiling, he was holding her up, then he said he was flipping her this way and flipping
her that way and she would fall. The way he was describing it is he was tossing that baby around like a ragdoll,” Gualtieri said.

“The baby was beaten and
traumatized,” Gualtieri said. “There was gross swelling in her face. Her skull was cracked in numerous places.”

The six-year-old boy admitted the attack but will not face charges due to his age. He has since been taken into care and reportedly has been reported to have serious behavioural issues.

Steele was arrested Thursday on charges of aggravated manslaughter and neglect. She
is being held in the Pinellas County jail on $100,000 bond.

Abia State Internal Revenue Service releases statement on the alleged fake tax clearance of Ikpeazu, says its not fake!

Abia State Internal Revenue Service has reacted to the alleged fake tax clearance certificate the state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, reportedly presented during the state's PDP governorship primaries in 2014.

According to a statement released by the state's internal revenue service this morning, the tax certificates of Ikpeazu are not fake and were duly issued by them.

There is tension in the state currently after a High court in Abuja ordered Ikpeazu to vacate his office after his opponent in the state's PDP overnorship
primaries, Uche Ogar,
proved to the court that Ikpeazu tendered fake tax credentials to their party. Read full text of the statement released by the Abia state internal revenue and signed by its chairman, Udochukwu G.

The attention of the Abia State Internal Revenue Service has been drawn to a court judgement of the Federal High Court Abuja on the tax clearance certificate issued to Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu by the Service, and hereby makes the following clarifications:

1. That the tax clearance certificate referred to in that Judgment was duly issued to Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu by the Service, and was therefore not fake.

2. That the taxes for the years 2011,2012 and 2013 were PAYE taxes deducted at source from his personal emoluments by his employers (Abia State Passengers’ Integrated Manifest Scheme and Abia State Environmental Sanitation Authority respectively) and remitted to the service in the relevant tax years

3. That the dates on the tax receipts of the relevant years (2011, 2012 and 2013) did not
suggest that they were paid on those dates, but only reflected the date he applied to be issued with the receipts, because that was when he needed them.


4. In the same vein the dates on the tax receipts did not suggest that they were written out on those days. The date on the receipts only indicates the last day of the last month of the year, when the PAYE tax payer became
entitled to the receipts, as the receipts could not have carried a date earlier or later than the 31st December of the relevant tax year. It is immaterial that it fell on a Saturday, Sunday or any other day of the week. For example if 31st December 2011 fell on a Saturday, in the month following i.e January, when the receipts are to be written out, it cannot carry any date in January 2012 or any other month in 2012.

5. That his taxes having been deducted by his afore said employers and remitted to the service within the relevant years will not be said to have been paid on the same day, as such were paid as at
when due. In fact the issue of payment as at when due does not apply to PAYE taxes
because the tax payer has no part to play in the deduction and remittance of his PAYE as the same is done by his employer. Where there is failure to deduct and remit PAYE taxes, it is the employer and not the tax payer that is liable. See LSIRS and Seven Up Bottling Company reported in year 2000.

Having stated the facts as they are above, we make bold to say that the tax returns filed by Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu to his party (Peoples Democratic Party) were neither false nor fake and cannot be said to amount to fraudulent payment of taxes.

Consequently, we affirm that both the Tax Clearance Certificate and the tax receipts referred to in the afore said judgment were the documents of Abia State Internal Revenue Service because same was authored by the Service as the authority
empowered by law to do so.

Finally, we state emphatically for the records and for the attention of the general public that we were never invited (subpoenaed) by the court or the plaintiff, Dr.
Uchechukwu Ogah during the pendency of the subject suit that led to the judgment in Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s tax matter to state the authenticity or otherwise of the tax papers in issue.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a South Africa based evangelist, John Vincent Arinze who hails from Anambra State over 165kgs of narcotics drugs seized at Apapa Seaport, Lagos.

The 92kgs of methamphetamine and 73kgs of ephedrine were found inside two
containers of foodstuff meant for export to South Africa.

The arrest and seizure is a product on intense
undercover operation by the NDLEA. The estimated street value of the drugs is 1.4 billion naira.

Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.) said that the seizure has significant influence on the campaign against narcotic drugs and
psychotropic substances. In his words, "this is a product of careful planning and meticulous tracking of narcotic drugs movement. The consignments were closely monitored by our undercover agents and intercepted at Apapa Seaport, Lagos
following the detection of narcotics by NDLEA sniffer dogs during screening operation.

This will definitely have a positive influence on Nigeria's drug control
efforts".'

The drugs were hidden inside packs of melon concealed in foodstuff and cosmetics such as Gari (cassava flakes), noodles, Knorr and Maggi food seasoning, yam powder, Malt drinks, pepper, Milk, Herbal Hair Cream and Golden Morn cereals.

Other items in the container are Damatol Hair Cream, bags of Melon, Kegs of palm oil, Beans, Biscuits, Sardine and Cartons of Orijin
bitters.

Officers successfully traced the illicit consignment to a fifty-two year old man who claimed to be an evangelist by name John Vincent Arinze who was arrested in his hotel room in Lagos. A Mercedes Benz Jeep belonging to him was also impounded at the time of arrest.

The suspect hails from Ara village, Nise in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. John who had lived in South Africa for over a decade accepted ownership of the illicit shipment.

The suspect in his statement said that he made a big mistake by taking over the business of his late wife. "I am an evangelist living in Durban South Africa.

My late wife was into drug trafficking before she died a few years ago. I made a mistake venturing into her business. It is all my fault," he stated.

Ousted chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff has dismissed the report of his sack by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, describing the report as “false and
a clear misrepresentation of the ruling of the court.”

This was contained in a statement signed by Professor Adewale Oladipo, the National Secretary, who said the court delivered its judgement on certain amendments, which have nothing to do with the leadership of Sheriff.

The statement reads in part:

“Our attention has been drawn to reports
circulating in the media
that a Federal
Capital Territory
(FCT) High Court has
ousted the National
Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Ali-Modu Sheriff.
“This is completely
false and a clear
misrepresen tation of the ruling of the court as it never gave any ruling ousting the National Chairman.
“For the avoidance of
doubt, the court only
heard and delivered
judgment on a matter
concerning certain
amendment s in the PDP constitution,
which has nothing to do
with the election of
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff
as the National
Chairman or even that of his predecessor, Alhaji Adamu Muazu.
“Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was duly
elected as the National
Chairman of the PDP. He
still holds office as the
National Chairman
and has not been
removed by any court.
“We therefore
urge those misleading
the media and the
unsuspecting public to
desist from such. The
media is also urged to
always crosscheck
their facts before going
to press,” he stated.
