The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has charged the All
Progressive Congress led federal government to concentrate on
providing solutions to the myriads of problems confronting the country rather than
perpetually blaming
the PDP for the
failure of government.

Senator Sheriff spoke Tuesday while inaugurating four committees of the party-- the convention,
Reconciliation, Finance and Zoning committees.

According to Senator
Sheriff, the PDP
shares in the pains
Nigerians are going
through in the hands
of the APC led
government, noting
that with what has
happened in the last
one year of the APC
government, Nigerians now have an opportunity to compare the performance of the
two parties.

"The leadership of
the party shares the
pains of Nigerians
after one year in
office of the APC.

Nigerians now have
an opportunity to
compare the PDP
and the APC and
Nigerians are the
ultimate judges.

Instead of APC
providing solution,
the APC is blaming
PDP for lack of
petrol in Nigeria. I
would like to advise
the leaders of APC
to stop blaming the
PDP. We are now in
opposition, re
positioning the party
to show Nigerians
that we can do
better" he said.

The PDP chairman also alleged that the party had credible intelligence indicating that the APC was mobilizing its
governors from other states to come to Abuja to compromised the council elections
scheduled for the
Federal Capital Territory on Saturday , warning that PDP will not allow its votes to be appropriated by any
party.

"I have heard from
reliable sources that
governors of APC who are not resident of FCT
want to come to the FCT for the election on
Saturday . We will
not allow anybody
to rig us out. If they
bring one governor,
we will also bring in
one governor. If
they bring one former governors we will also bring in one former
governor. We will not
be part of any
violence but we will
protect our votes.
Our votes must be
counted and winners
must be announced.

There should be no
inconclusive elections in the FCT" he said.

Nigerian singer Davido is currently under fire for donning
a Yeezus jacket featuring the Confederate flag.

Davido today April 4,

Nigerian forces recorded a major success in the fight
against terrorism by arresting the leader of the Ansaru jihadist
group, Khalid al-Barnawi in Kogi State on Friday.

Ansaru is a splinter
group of Boko Haram.

“Security agents made a breakthrough on
Friday in the fight against terrorism by arresting Khalid al-Barnawi, the leader of Ansaru terrorist group in Lokoja,” Defence
Headquarters
spokesman Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar said on Sunday.

“He is among those
on the top of the
list of our wanted terrorists,” Khalid al-Barnawi is one of three
Nigerian terrorists
listed by the United
States government
in 2012 as “specially
designated global
terrorists”. The
other two are Boko
Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and Ansaru
founder Abubakar
Adam Kambar.

“He is among those
on top of the list of our wanted terrorists,”
Abubakar added.

Barnawi, 47, whose
real name is Usman
Umar Abubakar, hailed from Biu town in restive northeast Borno
state. He became
the leader of Ansaru following the death of
Kambar in a military
raid on his hideout
in Kano in March
2012.

The group claimed
a 2012 attack on a maximum security facility in Abuja where detained Islamists were being held, killing
two policemen and
freeing 40 inmates.
With the emergence of
Ansaru, Barnawi’s
faction became
independent of Boko Haram but still maintained ties.

The group also claimed
responsibility for the kidnap of a French engineer, Francis Collomp, in northern Katsina state in 2012.

He later escaped. The group said it was responsible for a 2013 attack on a convoy of Mali-bound Nigerian
troops in Kogi state, killing two soldiers and
seriously wounding
five others.

It issued a statement
condemning Nigeria’s
participation in the
“war against the
Islamic state of
northern Mali”.

Authorities in Cameroon and Nigeria are investigating a claim from a would-be suicide
bomber that she
was one of a group
of schoolgirls
abducted in 2014.

The Nigerian government is sending parents to Cameroon to attempt to identify the girl.

She told investigators
in Cameroon she was
one of 270 kidnapped
in Chibok by jihadist
group Boko Haram.

The abductions sparked international outrage and the #bringbackourgirls social media campaign.

While about 50 of the
girls managed to
escape, 219 of these
girls remain missing.

They were taken by
the militants from the
Chibok community in
northeastern Nigeria.

soldiers battling Boko
Haram Reuters news agency reported that one of two girls arrested in northern Cameroon on Friday carrying explosives claimed to be one of the missing Chibok girls.

suicide bombings in
recent months.

"We hope that the
Chibok parents will be
able to identify the girl
and determine
whether she is indeed
one of their missing

girl's identity so she
could be brought back
to Nigeria and possibly

Chibok Abducted Girls
Movement, and Yana
Galang, the women's
leader in the group,
whose 16-year-old
daughter Rifkatu is
among the missing.

Former Nigerian
President Goodluck
Jonathan was
criticised for his slow
reaction to the Chibok
abductions. Mr Buhari,
his successor, ordered
a new investigation
into the kidnappings in
January.

Although Boko Haram
has been driven out
from most of the
areas it controlled in
north-eastern Nigeria,
it has continued to
carry out suicide
bombings and raids
into neighbouring
Cameroon, Chad and

Following the violence
that marred last week
re-run election in Rivers
State, President
Muhammadu Buhari has
been urged by three
groups under the aegis
of Arewa Youth
Alliance, AYA,
Concerned Human
Rights, CHR, and Vote
for Service Initiative,
VSI, not to declare a
state of emergency in
the state.

In a statement signed
by AYA’s Presidents,
Comrade Abubakar
Kudu; VSI’s President,
Mr Adeola Samuel-Ilori;
and CHR’s Coordinator,
Comrade Declan
Ihiekiare, they appealed
to the President not to
succumb to those
calling for a state of
emergence in Rivers.

The groups observed
that during the election,
regions in Rivers State
were highly militarized
with several illegal arms
in the possession of
several unemployed
youths, who constitute
about 60 per cent of
the population.

“We, however, call for
caution and
circumspection in this
regard, as this issue is
not as simple as that.

We urge Mr. President
not succumb to such
self-serving calls for the
declaration of a state
of emergency in that
state. Doing so will be
an open invitation for
the return of militancy.

And the President as
the father of the nation
should not be partisan
on this issue,” they
said.

Noting that security
situation in the state
will not improve if a
state of emergency
was declared, the
groups stressed that
the only thing that
would change was the
dismantling of the
political structures
“Politically, it would be
suicidal for the present
government to embark
on such a move while
the nation is still
battling with the Boko
Haram insurgency.

“We don’t know how
the government would
justify such a move
while over 500 Agatu
people in Benue State
have been massacred
without any state of
emergency being
declared.”
