Gender, according to the British great philosopher, Mark Twain, is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

As the race for the 2021 gubernatorial election begins and the debate over zoning in the state continues, it is uncertain what the consensus will be zoning or no zoning.

Many candidates from the three different zones have shown their interest in contesting for the highest seat in Anambra state, one of them is the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the 9th Assembly, Senator Uche Ekwunife, whom I will refer to as Okwulu-Oka in this piece. Okwulu-Oka not by her size but because of the magnificent things she has done and achieved despite the many obstacles.

Why the Uche Ekwunife’s Candidacy is Important to Nigeria Women

Let us walk through memory lane. When the former governor, Peter Obi was impeached in 2006, Dame Virgy Etiaba was sworn in as the governor of Anambra state, making her the first female governor in Nigeria to date.

It has been a whopping fourteen years since any woman occupied and clinched the governorship position. Her decision to replace her boss then was greeted with criticism from some quarters, as one of such statements reads in part;

“We are shocked at the alleged Summersault of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, who we had commended for keeping faith with the people when she rejected the offer to replace her boss and sincerely hope that she was not coerced into accepting to be sworn in as the Governor of Anambra state against her people’s wish”.

Many people who were close to her knew otherwise, that her loyalty for her boss and commitment to the people of Anambra led her to make this decision. A decision that placed Anambra State on the map and changed the game for women in politics.

Meet Virginia Etiaba, the first female governor in Nigeria who ...

Etiaba’s tenure was a short one (three months), yet very impactful. She signed the Anambra State’s Child Rights Bill into Law. She initiated the “Suba Kwa Igbo” mantra to preserve the Igbo culture and heritage. She also invested in the state’s Orient Petroleum company and carried on most of the projects of her boss, Peter Obi.

Etiaba’s emergence as deputy governor and the governor has given many women the political wings to fly both in the state, the region, and the nation. Yet still, the number of women in politics has continued to decline in Nigeria especially with the present dispensation.

Women only make up six percent (6%) of the nation’s parliament, which Okwulu-Oka (Sen. Uche Ekwunife) is one of them. Women who aspire to become politicians often face opposition from our conservative and patriarchal society, sometimes gender-based election harassment and violence.

It is worthy to note that no woman in Nigeria has been elected as a governor. If Sen. Uche Ekwunife should emerge victoriously, she will be the first elected female governor. Her emergence will be a victory for all women in the state and country.

Why She?

Sen. Uche did not stumble into politics and unlike many, she had a clear path of what her political sojourn should entail. Ókwúlu ọkà’s career did not start in politics, she was a successful banker and rose to become the area manager before proceeding to pursue her political ambition.

In 2007, she contested her first election to represent the Federal constituency Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia at the Federal House of Representative and she emerged victoriously.

In 2011, she vied for the same position and won again. In 2015, she contested for the Anambra Central Senatorial seat, her victory was shrouded with many controversies. She eventually lost the seat to a court judgment in 2017.

In 2019, she made an exceptional come-back by winning at all the Seven (7) Local Government Areas in Anambra Central to emerge as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Many are of the opinion that her grassroots proximity is worthy of study. Her victories surely were accompanied by its ample share of work as the people’s representative.

Her constituents at the Central district have continuously lauded her attitude to work and the numerous projects she has attracted. She has made available many job opportunities for her teeming constituents and employed some with her capacity.

She has continued to propagate the Nri culture and custom and encourage all and sundry to embrace the Igbo culture. She encourages female political participation and has raised her voice against abuse and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the country.

More recently, she supported the motion on more stringent punishment for rapists to deter other people from committing these acts. She also supports victims of GBV financially to help them find their way and start up something.

CultureWhy The Anglican Church Lost Igboland To The Roman Catholic Missionaries by midascnn(op): 3:25pm On Aug 04, 2020
By Ekene Ugwuanyi

The Church of England (Anglican) under the auspices of Church Missionary Society (CMS) had the opportunity of taking over the whole of Igboland in the early 19th century through this man, Bishop Ajayi Crowther, before the French Roman Catholic missionaries led by Rev. Fr. Lutz found there way down here in 1885.

Do you know why the Roman Catholic Church took over? Simply because the Church of England frustrated the efforts of Ajayi Crowther when he demanded financial assistance to propagate the gospel. Why? Because he was a black man. In fact, there was a protest in Europe by the whites as to why the blacks should be ordained bishop.

Bishop Ajayi Crowther and his fellow ex-slaves suffered too much as they struggled to reach out to the hinterlands of the Lower Niger to preach the gospel. But the Roman Catholic missionaries soon took over because they received excess financial assistance from Rome and France they used to complement their preaching by establishing schools, hospitals and rendering many humanitarian services that required money.
Before the Church of England could reinforce and send the white missionaries, it was already too late. Bishop Shanahan, a white Roman Catholic missionary already had a strong footing in Igboland. He was invited by King Onyeama N' Eke of Udi establish a missionary school there as the king was not satisfied with the Church Missionary Society who earlier came because they were blacks. The king wondered how these blacks could successfully teach English to his subjects to the best standard when the whites themselves were there. The whites were basically found among the Roman Catholics who were sponsored by Rome.

It was when Rev. T. J. Dennis, a German, came to Onitsha for the Church Missionary Society and the whole scenario changed. According to the Archives Hub, 'Thomas John Dennis (1869-1917) of St Leonards, a gardener, was accepted as a missionary by the CMS in 1893. He went to West Africa and was assigned to the Niger Mission. However, he remained for some time in Sierra Leone as acting Vice-Principal of Fourah Bay College. He was ordained a priest by the Bishop of Sierra Leone in 1894 and then proceeded to the Niger where he served at Onitsha. He was appointed as Archdeacon of the Upper Niger in 1905. '

He led the group that translated the Bible to Igbo language. That Igbo Bible you are reading (the first Igbo Bible) was edited by T. J. Dennis.

FamilyMy Dad Slept With People’s Wives And Abandoned My Mom During Nigeria Civil War by midascnn(op): 7:09pm On Aug 03, 2020

-How Anya, Emotionally abused his wife for 26 years, Twitter user narrates her story

It’s no news that powerful men take advantage of the war to exploit people with vulnerabilities, their power affording them the means. The Nigerian civil war in 1967-1970 was no different, a Nigerian woman has narrated how her father who was on the Biafran side used his power to send other men out to the battlefield, only to sleep with their wives.
Luring and sleeping with other women, often meant abandoning their wives which were the fate of a Trinidadian woman, Maria Anya, married to an Igbo man from Enugu state.

A twitter user and daughter of Marie Anya, Uju Anya takes us through the civil war era – when her dad left her mom to live with his concubine. She recounts how her mother had to fend for her two kids with another on the way, whilst her husband plays community property to an uncountable number of women. some of these women often referred to her as “Nwunye dim” meaning “Co-wife” in a mocking manner.

HealthDr Joseph Ugboaja Calls For Compliance To COVID-19 Preventive Strategies by midascnn(op): 6:20pm On Jul 21, 2020
-Calls for COVID-19 Support at NAUTH

Against the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee(CMAC) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Dr Joseph Ugboaja has called for stricter compliance to the COVID-19 preventive strategies especially the use of face mask and observance of social distancing among members of the public.

Dr. Ugboaja who is the Director of Clinical Services, Research, and Training of the hospital as well as the Chairman, COVID-19 Taskforce of the hospital made this call while addressing newsmen at the weekly press briefing on the activities of the Taskforce recently.

Dr. Ugboaja, who heads many committees of the management and Board and seen as key to most of the transformational changes taking place in the hospital said that the call has become pertinent in view of the rising number of cases resulting from the ongoing community spread.

‘Time has come for everybody to take responsibility for curtailing the spread of this virus. This is the only way we can arrest this ugly trend and flatten the curve. It is unfortunate and highly worrisome that even in the face of escalating rates of infection, most people still go about their businesses as if nothing is happening. Every day, you see people moving up and down in groups without a face mask and with minimal regard to physical distancing. The markets and workplaces are filled with people clustered together without face masks. The pubs and beer parlours are all bubbling with activities with people paying little or no attention to COVID-19 preventive strategies’.

According to Dr. Ugboaja, this ‘ I don’t care attitude of the members of the public is responsible for the increasing number of cases presented at the Teaching hospital for management. He stressed that if nothing is done to quickly halt or reverse this trend, the hospital will soon be overwhelmed with cases of COVID-19 and will not be able to help further. The CMAC, therefore, called on all stakeholders to quickly join hands with the hospital and the government in the fight to halt the spread of this deadly virus.

‘There is an urgent need for all the stakeholders including religious community and political leaders to join hands with the Teaching hospital and the government in the fight to curtail the spread of this virus by sensitizing the members of their constituencies and putting structures in place to monitor compliance to the COVID-19 preventive strategies and punish offenders.

There is a need to strengthen the existing COVID-19 Taskforce teams and establish new ones at the communities, villages, churches, markets, and workplaces to enforce compliance to COVID-19 protocols. These bodies ought to take the responsibility of ensuring that their members comply with COVID-19 protocols especially the use of face mask and maintenance of physical distancing.’

In terms of the activities of the Taskforce, the CMAC said that members of the Taskforce especially the Rapid Response Team and other staff members of the Isolation unit and Accident & Emergency have been very outstanding and deserve a lot of commendation. The Teaching hospital- Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital Nnewi which is central in identifying, isolating, and managing cases of COVID-19 needs to be supported with the personal protective kits including the face masks, the PPE gowns, booths, face shields, and other materials’. The Taskforce chairman paid glowing tribute to the CMD and Hospital Board for providing the necessary logistics for the Taskforce.

‘I want to thank in a special way the CMD of the hospital, Prof AO Igwegbe and the Board of management ably led Chief Ezekiel Afukonyo for providing leadership and the needed logistic support at this period in time. I want to also thank members of the Taskforce on COVID-19 especially the Rapid Response Team and the staff of the Isolation and Accident and Emergency units for their outstanding performance so far. They deserve a lot of accolades. I also thank members of the press who have been partnering with us in this fight against the coronavirus infection.’

The weekly press briefing of the NAUTH Taskforce on COVID-19 is conceived to bring every stakeholder up to speed on the efforts of the Taskforce, the challenges, and the areas for cooperation and collaboration.

BusinessEXCLUSIVE: Sex Scandal Rocks Ogbuawa Family, As Wife, Children, Fights Dirty by midascnn(op): 6:22am On Jul 19, 2020
EXCLUSIVE: Sex Scandal Rocks Ogbuawa Family, As Wife, Children, Fights Dirty Over Properties

- Top Nnewi Businessmen Fingered

- Wife Cries Out

Some top Nnewi Businessmen have been accused of having sexual relationship with the wife of Late Chief Pius Ogbuawa, in an attempt to hijack the business empire of the Late Nkwo Nnewi Auto-spare parts dealer.

Mrs Amaka Ogbuawa, the third Wife of the billionaire who is in the middle of the controversy has also cried out to the public, washing her hands off the various allegations leveled against her.

According to a widely circulated write-up purportedly written by one of the sons of the late billionaire, Amaka Ogbuawa in connivance with two major Nnewi-based businessmen, used the police to arrest and detain Uchenna and Onyedika who are the first two sons of Chief Pius Ogbuawa.

She was also accused of making a withdrawal of N36M from Ogbuawa company's account using Chief Ogbuawa's devices, transfer code and pin.

Family War

Since the death of one of Nkwo Nnewi's biggest spare parts dealer, Chief Pius Ogbuawa, it has been the battle of the fittest between the third wife and the kids of the first and second wife.

The battle of who controls the business empire, assets and properties of the Late Yoko President, has teared the family apart and has snowballed to a media war.

In a separate publications written by Amaka and the other, written by the sons, which was made available to Anaedonline.ng, several allegations and accusations were raised as they tongue lashed each other.

Lamenting on her ordeal, Mrs Amaka Ogbuawa revealed that ever since her husband died, she has been in great pains not only because of what she described as the untimely death of her husband, but also from her step-children who have deliberately chosen to intimidate her for no reason.

According to her, she have been persecuted, traumatized, intimidated and dealt with unjustly.

Calling for the intervention of the public, she revealed that some family members, both immediate and extended have taken it as a point of duty to put her name up for public ridicule, mockery, blame and disgrace.

She disclosed that after her husband died, she told her step children from the onset to manage the business and maintain the laid down procedures which is geared towards success, but just six (6) months after her husband's death, the business has collapsed as most goods were sold at ridiculous low amount, way below the cost price.

Mrs Amaka who wrote with alot of bitterness, stated that the company is slipping off their hands because of attendant mismanagement, noting that she should not be blamed for their failure.

She noted that the God who she is serving, the God of the widow will surely vindicate and exonerate her from all the malicious and wicked allegations leveled up against her.

However, in a swift reaction, some sons of Ogbuawa in a joint publication which went viral on social media described Mrs Amaka Ogbuawa as not only a liar, but a shameless gold-digger, utterly dubious, very dangerous and extremely diabolical.

They alleged that since the death of their father, two (2) top Nnewi Businessmen, Nonso Ukatu (NONSEC) and Augustine Jideofor (AUSTIN-MANUEL) who have been having the carnal knowledge of their step mother, have conspired to take over the business empire of Late Chief Ogbuawa.

Going down memory lane, they claimed that Amaka was an undergraduate at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) when she met Chief Ogbuawa's second Daughter who happens to be a twin. As co-indigenes of Oraeri who found themselves at Nsukka, they both became friends.

When Chief Ogbuawa's first son Uchenna visited his sister on campus at Nsukka, he met Amaka with his sister. He immediately fell for Amaka who is pretty and seductive.

According to the publication, Uchenna convinced her younger sister to always bring Amaka along with her to their home at Nnewi on weekends.

Amaka was introduced to Chief Ogbuawa as a friend to his twin daughter, but at night, Amaka will sneak into Uchenna's bed.

They also claimed that neither Uchenna nor his sister realized that Amaka had an entirely different diabolical agenda, to seduce their father and lay a strong hold on his vast wealth.

Stop Antagonizing Innoson And Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, Igbo Leader Warns Social Media Users

The spiritual leader of the Igbo nation, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka (Ogilisi Igbo) has fumed at what he described as “unguarded social media users” peddling false information to antagonize renowned Industrialist and Chairman/CEO Innoson Group of Companies Chief Innocent Chukwuma and Senator Uba by publishing a false report that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah asked a Senate Committee not to allow the Senate patronize Innoson Vehicles.

Reacting to the report which has been making round in various social media platforms, Chief Ezeonwuka unleashed stern warning to those peddling the false report to stop it immediately or else he will unleash Ogilisi powers against them adding that he has made enquires through a competent source and discovered that Senator Uba at no point asked the Senate Committee not to approve the Senate to patronize Innoson Vehicle.

The Ogilisi Igbo who said that Ifeanyi Uba buys and uses Innoson Vehicles repeatedly warned those using social media platforms to spread rumors to antagonize and blackmail prominent Igbo businessmen and political leaders to henceforth stop it maintaining that as the spiritual leader of the Igbo nation, he will henceforth not take it lightly with anybody that uses social media platforms to antagonize and blackmail Ndigbo.

“Henceforth any person using social media to peddle rumors to antagonize or blackmail Innoson and Ifeanyi Uba or Ndigbo, in general, will have Ogilisi powers to contend with. Enough is Enough. I am using this opportunity to warn them to stop such acts and repent and learn how to use the social media platforms to promote Igbo culture, promote goodwill, promote respect for the elders and champion the cause of good governance and welfare of the people of Igboland like the Yoruba people do” he added.

HealthDr Joseph Ugboaja Throws More Light On COVID-19 Recovered Patients by midascnn(op): 4:15pm On Jul 13, 2020
- There are huge chances of survival
-The Testing Lab in Nnewi is not being used presently

Many persons wonder what life would be for persons infected with the coronavirus pandemic. The death rate that came with COVID-19 early in the year scared everyone into thinking of it as a death sentence. It felt like once someone had the virus, they were destined to die from it. However, we have also seen recovered cases of the COVID-19, and this begs the question, what are the chances of an affected person surviving the coronavirus.

There has been speculation that they may not be able to live their normal lives even if they survive, some even point out that they might have a relapse of the disease in their lifetime.

Medical expert, Dr. Joseph Ugboaja has given us an in-depth view of life after COVID-19 for recovered patients. According to him, The chances of survival are there but will depend on so many factors. These include the age of the patient, presence or absence of comorbidities, the level of care available to the patient, and the stage of presentation to the hospital. The prognosis is worse for patients over 60 years with comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus & hypertension, those who don’t have access to quality care as well as those who present late to the hospital. Overall, the mortality rate in Nigeria appears lower than the western countries. Many theories have been put forward to explain that but they are all speculations.

When asked the state of the Testing lab in Nnewi, he reiterated that the entire medical practitioners in Nnewi were elated when the news of accreditation of the Acunalysis lab for COVID-19 testing by NCDC came to them because it will save them a whole lot of spending on logistics of transporting samples to Irrhua, Edo State, reduce the waiting time for the result and allow earlier and quicker clinical decision-taking in suspected cases of COVID-19. He pointed out that however, more than one month after, the institution is yet to commence testing.

He also said he does not have the details of what the issues are, but they are earnestly looking forward to when they will commence COVID-19 testing following NCDC accreditation

TravelAzumini Blue River: The Fate Of Tourism In Nigeria by midascnn(op): 8:24pm On Jul 09, 2020
Nigeria is a country blessed with different human and natural resources. It is so unfortunate that as beautiful as the resources that are in Nigeria, the country’s mainstay is just that of crude oil, as too much attention is not paid to others. In the other vein, Tourism has suffered a big blow as that sector is nowhere near any successive government plan.

Countries like Egypt, Ethiopia, Rwanda, just to mention a few now feast on tourism gains that has since helped those nations generate great forex as visitors throng in. Also, the insecurity problem in Nigeria has made great tourist sites like Yankari Games reserve and the other beauties located in the North to remain partially obsolete.

In the east, the few tourist sites that should attract different foreign nationals are not in good shape. From the Ogbunike Cave to Oguta lake, to the War Museum in Umuahia and others, there has been relatively no forex gain as governments of the states have not modernized the standards of those sites.

Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Obini Onuchukwu said in a statement in Awka that such insinuation was the figment of the imagination of authors of the report.
The PRO said: “For the records, we wish to state clearly that students of the institution were not involved in the ongoing cult clashes that happened recently in Oko community.

“More worrisome was that the institution was never consulted for clarification or confirmation of the report.

A man identified as Mr. Emesim Chukwunonso from Ukpor in Nnewi-North LGA, reportedly came back to life a few hours after being confirmed d**d by a hospital.

Mr. Chukwnonso was alleged to have died after being involved in an accident where he was working.

Rev. Canon Chiadikaobi Emmanuel of Jesus Healing School, Nnewi, who disclosed this through official Facebook Page revealed that Mr. Chukwunonso died two (2) times before he came back to life.

Part of the Facebook Post Reads;

A DEADMAN CAME BACK TO LIFE

Mr. Emesim Chukwunonso had a fatal accident where he was working. His cutting machine hit on iron in the wall and bounced back to cut his skull into his brain, from the head down to his cheek.

Having lost much blood, he died in the first hospital they admitted him. When confirmed d**d, his friends took him away from the hospital.

Meanwhile, he saw himself depart from his physical body to embark on a journey where he walked with thousands of people. All were moving towards a particular direction and yet nobody looked back or talked to each other. All one by one passed through one gate.

The person before him passed through the huge gate, and it was his turn to enter when suddenly the gate banged close. And a loud voice commanded him, saying, “Go back.” Then he turned to go back only to regain his consciousness on earth. At that time his fingers moved and his friends became happy and drove the vehicle speedily to Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.

HealthNAUTH Team Led By Dr. Ugboaja Moves To Curb The Spread Of COVID-19 by midascnn(op): 10:23pm On Jul 01, 2020
Being the only federal tertiary hospital in the state, NAUTH has an important role to play in the fight against coronavirus in Anambra State.
These roles range from public and community awareness creation on the pandemic especially the preventive measures, the effective identification, isolation, testing, and treatment of cases of COVID-19; collaboration with national and state agencies to curb the spread as well as carrying out research on aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To deliver on these mandates the hospital management under the able leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Prof A.O Igwegbe constituted a Taskforce on COVID-19 of led by Dr. Joseph Ugboaja.

The taskforce has 6 subcommittees. These are the Rapid Response Team, responsible for quick response in all cases of COVID-19 that present to any of our service points.
They are trained on how to triage, move the patient to the isolation center, collect samples for investigation, and commence management of the patient.

This team includes doctors, medical laboratory scientists, nurses, hygienists, and others. The task force also has the case management team led by the Infectious disease Specialist.
The others in the team include the respiratory physicians, the pediatricians, the anesthetists, nurses, hygienists, and others.

The other committee is the sensitization committee led by public health experts and nurses. This committee has embarked on aggressive public sensitization on the dangers of COVID-19 and the need to adhere to the laid down preventive strategies.

They have effectively engaged the media houses in and around Nnewi to facilitate this. They have the surveillance committee charged with monitoring the hospital environment to ensure that both staff and patients comply with preventive strategies. I’m sure you know that you can’t come to the hospital without a face mask.

There is the committee on logistics and supplies that ensures that the PPEs and other materials needed in the fight against COVID-19 are available within the hospital through a proper procurement and inventory system.
Finally, there is a committee on outreaches and collaborations charged with the responsibility of attracting assistance to the hospital from public-spirited individuals and corporate organizations.

The Dr. Ugboaja led team has attracted donations to the hospital but by far their greatest donation to the hospital is that of a world-class COVID-19 Isolation and Treatment center being constructed by Anambra Progressives, convened by His Excellency, Sen (Dr ) Ifeanyi Ubah.

The building is almost 90% completed and will be handed over in about 2 weeks’ time. We remain grateful to the Anambra Progressives for this massive and timely gesture.
However, the greatest asset to the movement in the fight against this pandemic is the presence of an Isolation Center with the full complement of trained members of staff that are willing and available to attend to these cases of suspected and COVID-19 patients.

They are on ground 24 hours a day to respond to alerts and do the needful. The Isolation Unit is under the leadership of the DCMAC, Dr. Ezejiofor O.
Since he took over the leadership, the unit has got a very big leverage and is more organized now. The management remains appreciative and indebted to them. Management is also highly appreciative of the efforts of all our frontline staff especially those working at the Accident & Emergency unit.

CultureWhat Makes An Igbo Man Successful? by midascnn(op): 12:59pm On Jun 23, 2020
All around the world and particularly in Nigeria, Igbo people are regarded as lovers of money which is a bit weird because everyone on the surface of the earth loves money, literally everyone!

That’s by the way as this piece is solely for the purpose of understanding the makings of the success of an Igbo man. There’s this saying ” if you go to a place where there are no igbo business people, you should know that business does not thrive in such area”. If there is anything you got from this statement, it’s probably that Igbo men are businessmen. You can even go as far as saying that a businessman is an Igbo man. The secrets to their success aren’t really secrets, I would prefer to call them traits that serve as guidelines to their way of living which directly or indirectly leads them to success

Servanthood:

There is always a start to the supposed great height of an Igbo man. There has been a series of negative reactions to the success of the average Igbo man – some say they are into all forms of ritual killings, some also term their money as drug money and lots of unimaginable names. Truth is, this servanthood scheme has created more millionaires than the present-day education. Masters travel as far as they can to bring boys that go through their tutelage, most times under strict conditions, till they master the art of their business and are settled after a specific year. This is like the start to so many businesses we see Igbos own...

Persistence:

The peculiar thing about Igbo people is that they do not give up easily, if they do, it simply means that they have exhausted all options available and they cannot help the situation. They make sure to see that whatever they start, they see it to the very end. Lots of people may feel they are persistent people when they want to be but I can tell you that you can never see persistence in its fullness except you witness it being displayed by an Igbo man. They have the gift of resilience that makes them try Evey possible way to make a business thrive in the worst places you can think of.

CultureThe Beauty Of Village Life by midascnn(op): 12:50pm On Jun 23, 2020
The village life is usually regarded by a lot of people as an archaic form of living with little or no technological advancements. While I wouldn’t necessarily make this previous statement out to be false, one cannot help but admit there is truth in it, being in the village to some extent can isolate a person from the real world but the peculiar thing about life is that when you take away the negatives of a certain thing, you would then be able to see the positives which it has to offer.

The village offers a certain kind of peace and serenity that no fancy resort or island can offer because the village is all-natural, what you see is what you get. Ever wondered why people in the village seem way healthier than most people who live in the city? It’s because of its all fresh food.

The typical village life starts off when the people are awoken by the crows of the cockerel at the dawn of the day, some people start off the day by going to fetch water from the streams and I can particularly tell you that it is an amazing experience. Sure enough, it is a tad bit stressful to carry water severally but after all said and done, a soak in the village natural stream always promises a feeling of freshness. After chores are done and breakfast is served, everybody gets a chance to do what they want to do.

PoliticsBiodun Olujimi: Senator With A Difference by midascnn(op): 9:48am On Apr 11, 2020
By Oluwaseun Amire Esq.

Obviously, the Nigerian political landscape has not gotten to Eldorado but somethings have moved away from where we started 1999. If one thing at all, the political consciousness of the electorates has increased. It is no longer cheap for any politician to hoodwink the electorates as the case was two decades ago when Nigeria returned to democracy.

Though it remains debatable if Nigeria’s development is in consonance with the number of billions spent so far but one thing is sure that we are moving forward slowly but surely. More than before, the awareness social media had created in the last one decade has put politicians and political leaders on their toes to either perform or lose the next election.

One astute politician this piece focuses on is Mrs. Bidoun Olujimi, the current senator representing Ekiti South senatorial district at the national assembly. A dogged fighter, grassroots politician and lover of Ekiti State. Some described her as a “woman like a man”.

Events in the last few weeks have revealed the sincerity or otherwise of most politicians and leaders particularly in Ekiti state. It has shown those who want to serve, love and committed to Ekiti wellbeing. Senator Biodun Olujimi is one of the senators representing the state at the national assembly. While she is from the opposition party, the PDP. The other two senators are of the ruling party in the state, the APC.

COVID 19 & PALLIATIVES
Up till this moment, none of the other two senators has thought it needful to give any palliatives for the people in the state. At least, I didn’t see that happen.

Senator Biodun Olujimi has been consistent in giving palliatives not only to her senatorial district residents but across all political parties in the state.

Within the week, she credited accounts of over 2000 residents across the 16 local government areas in the state with 10,000 naira each. According to her “10,000, each for these 2000 people is the first phase of the palliatives.

Hunger knows no enemies nor political coloration. I am committed to “Ekiti first project”.

We must see ourselves as one first before talking about a political party. Party is a vehicle to win an election but you must make the welfare of the people a priority particularly in an epidemic period like this.

My belief is that this little token will help a family navigate the season well and stay alive till the COVID 19 pandemic is over”. What a statement from a sincere leader!

When you hear a loving politician speaks as above, you cannot but conclude she is different from those who seek positions for personal benefits.

EASTER 2020 RELIEF MATERIALS FOR POLITICAL PARTIES

As a leader, Senator Olujimi is of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ekiti State. She campaigned and won her election back to the Senate on the platform of the party even though Dr. Ayodele Fayose, former governor of the state, campaigned against her interest but as God will have it, she won and the court of appeal affirmed it thereby sent Prince Dayo Adeyeye out of the senate.

Senator Olujimi’s commitment to inclusive governance is unparalleled. While donating food and other items for APC in the state, she said “Ekiti state is our own. We are one despite our political differences.

These materials are my little token for you to share with your various party members to have something to celebrate this Easter. Materials for Social Democratic Party, SDP will be delivered as well. My party, the PDP, had theirs last week.

Please let us see ourselves as one in Ekiti state as hunger and poverty know no party. Please ensure these materials get to your members who are vulnerable and in need. It is meant for the needy not the greedy”.

The above statement is a clear departure from an average politician who sees everything with a party mindset.

While political parties should and must play politics before and during elections, every politician should learn from Senator Biodun Olujimi’s gesture and developmental dimension to politics in Nigeria.
Developed nations are products of this mindset.

The nation becomes one after an election is won and winners are declared.

The winners rallied round and make developments all-inclusive. Since 1999, if our leaders of various political parties have moved along this right path, our progress would have been geometric as against the current speed.

In the coming days, we need politicians like Senator Biodun Olujimi in our political landscape for quality developments devoid of political colorations.

Oluwaseun Amire Esq., a social commentator, writes from Igbara-Odo Ekiti.

PoliticsAPC Leaders Commend Olujimi's Palliative Support by midascnn(op): 3:04pm On Apr 09, 2020
The leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State have commended the PDP's Senator representing South Senatorial District, Biodun Olujimi for her food support to the leadership of the ruling APC in the state.

According to the group in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Senator Olujimi has taken the legendary lead in the liberation movement in Ekiti without any political coloration.

They said the good gesture of senator Olujimi will complement the efforts of the state government to solve the food shortage in this season of restricted movements in the state.

The group under the aegis of APC-Liberation group (APC-LG), in a statement co-signed by its State Chairman and Secretary, Elder Akin Ibikunle and Hon. Emmanuel Akindahunsi respectively said their group domiciled within the Ekiti APC comprises of members who are elders state men and whose role is to maintain sanity not only in the APC but across the state.

In the group's view, Senator Olujimi has by that singular gesture further rebuilt the confidence of Ekiti people towards the 'Ekiti First' project and has also disabused the minds of every Nigerian against politics of bitterness.

The statement reads; " It has become imperative to issue this appreciation statement particularly, as it affects the generality of Ekiti people. We are an outstanding group of APC stakeholders and our position herein, notwithstanding, does not have anything to do with the defeated PDP as a political party in Ekiti but as concerned leaders who deem the gesture of Senator Olujimi worthy of commendation. "

It will be recalled that Senator Biodun Olujimi as part of her palliative for COVID-19 pandemic donated foodstuff to the leadership of Ekiti APC and PDP this week.

PoliticsSo, Imo State Was Allocated To A Powerful Fulani Way Back 2018? by midascnn(op): 5:31pm On Feb 26, 2020
By Chukwudi Okeke

*Emeka Ihedioha v Hope Uzodinma*

In 2018, a friend of mine who was involved in the PDP party screening in Sokoto was told by a Fulani friend..(both are reading this post now) that Hope has been anointed the governor of IMO state. That what ever the result may be, Hope will eventually be declared governor. We doubted it. I doubted it. In 2018, three months to the election, a lawyer friend of mine with strong connection to katsina took me to presidential hotel Portharcourt. We met a scion of katsina Emirate .. a Fulani who told us to stop wasting our time and queue behind Hope because he had been anointed as governor of Imo state. I asked why.. and I was told that one powerful person up north has been settled with imo state.. settled? How? For what? I kept asking myself these questions but the answers that came to me made me queasy. The state is supposed to be paying a particular amount of money to this northern powerful man every month while 50% of the IMO state contracts will be reserved for this man.. I had my doubts but the events are adding up to convince me. That lawyer friend of mine is from Oguta.. he actually went for Hope. I couldn’t bring myself to support Hope. Why?

Now see my reasons. I know Hope. I had done a case against his company Smeic engineering. Hope refused to pay ikoku traders who supplied parts to his company. The amount was just 600k but Hope gave 1m to the police to deal with the boys. I did the case and I recovered the money. I ran away with a bad impression of the guy. I did another case against the same company owned by Hope. He got a contract of over 3 billion in NDDC for shore protection. He sub contracted it to a client , Chiteks ventures ltd. My client did a job of about 190m with borrowed fund. Hope was paid 3b for doing nothing and he refused to pay my client a dime. Hope issued a cheque for the money which had bounced severally. The matter is before the police.. Hope had spent big sums of money on bribe to the police and EFCC... but has refused to pay my client. My client has a judgement but Hope refused to bulge. I have another story of lady in a bank but for time constraint.. let’s leave it at that.

PMB knows of the character of Hope. Hope was pursued around for $12m contract scam in Calabar dredging contract.. it’s still pending and the presidency knew about it. Yet, no one arrested and prosecuted Hope. Instead PMB inflicted him on Imo state to settle a northerner. Maybe that settlement side is wrong but the way Hope defied gravity to be made imo governor makes the story to ring true.

Well, I can only say that imo will be worse off for it. Our allocation will be shared in Abuja. No meaningful project will be done. The OTOKOTO boys will bounce back. The 419 boys will take over imo state. The state will be further indebted and possibly RUGA will take root first in south east from IMO state. Folks! IMO is in the worst trajectory.
As for me? It is becoming clear that I will be long in Canada. It’s becoming possible that I will soon take my family out of that country.. it’s becoming possible that I will re-focus on my family and development in Canada!
