PoliticsCounter-insurgency: We were not referring to Borno elders group, Army insists by midolian(op): 3:49pm On Sep 28, 2015
The Nigeria Army on Monday maintained that its warning to saboteurs of the ongoing operations in the North-East was not directed to the Borno Elders of Thought (BELT), a socio-political group. The Acting Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in a telephone interview in Abuja that the warning was misrepresented by a section of the media.

He said that the Army command was explicitly clear on the matter and did not mention the names of any individual or group in the statement. According to Usman, the warning became necessary following series of malicious comments made in the social media about the ongoing operations.

“I can categorically tell you that the Nigerian Army has credible information that certain individuals and groups are making efforts to undermine and discredit the renewed fight against Boko Haram. “Their comments in the social media are indicative of this fact and there is no doubt as to what their motives are.

“ Of course, they are not happy with our successes because they are benefitting, one way or the other, from the crisis. “These people know themselves; we certainly were not referring to the Borno elders as contained in some of the media reports. “ So, it is wrong for anybody to now infer that we accused the Borno elders of undermining our efforts.

“This is wrong, I will continue to state as I have stated in our previous releases that, we enjoy the support of the elders and those who are interested in peace, so the reports are false.’’ Usman insisted that the Army would not spare anyone that was bent on frustrating the efforts of security agencies in the war against Boko Haram.

He said that the Army would act in accordance with the relevant laws, if those involved in the alleged sabotage refused to desist from the act. “Like I have said, we have warned and the next thing is to act in accordance with the laws, if they don’t stop. “The anti-terrorism act is there and the punishment for anyone found culpable of acts of terrorism will be made to bear the consequences.

“Therefore, it is not a question of what are we going to do, anybody that is associated with terrorism or related acts and is found guilty will face the law.’’ He solicited for the continued support of the public to meet the timeline given by President Muhammadu Buhari to end Boko haram and restore peace to the North East.

NAN recalls that the Army command had alerted the public about some individuals and groups, whose activities, it said, was inimical to the military operation in the North East.

United Nations representatives and Chad Basin countries including Chad, Niger, and Cameroon met to discuss security and terrorism issues in the Lake Chad Basin area, especially Boko Haram, on Friday according to Reuters news. However, it was learned that Nigeria was not present during this meeting organized on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

This meeting happened after the United States announced it would provide $6.8 million in funding for the region on Friday. It has been reported that UN and international diplomats were critical of Nigeria’s decision not to attend this meeting, particularly given the opportunity hold multilateral talks between the UN and other member nations.

SaharaReporters has also learned that Nigeria’s absence from this meeting has created a stir amongst the Nigerian Mission to the United Nations, located in New York City, and members of President Buhari’s delegation because of the negative media attention it received.

One source speaking with SaharaReporters said, “at the very least the National Security Adviser should have been present at the meeting.” Major General (Rtd) Monguno, the National Security Adviser to President Buhari, accompanied President Buhari to the UN on a lean 27-man delegation.

SaharaReporters spoke to a spokesman for President Buhari who said that, “we have been part of many meetings about this Boko Haram issue, including those with [the UN Aid Chief] Stephen O’Brien.” The spokesman said that President Buhari has been part of many meetings and that there are far more meetings than he would be able to attend.

“We are offering a rebuttal to [those news stories] and want to say the President has shown a commitment to addressing security issues,” the spokesman added.

President Buhari stated during his inaugural address that his administration would end the Boko Haram menace in northeast Nigeria. As of last week, however, the Nigerian 7th Army Division Spokesman, Colonel IT Gusau, announced that all unauthorized animal and vehicle traffic was banned in Borno State due to fear of Boko Haram attacks.

What a load of CRAP. I can't believe Midolian will descend so low as to compile this hogwash as probable information and then feed it to us as trash. They have 12 PDP senators, from where, the moon. What could they have offered the PDP senators, gold coins. The only way to get allies, is to offer them something they truly need You don't appeal to their morality or conscience. Except the individual is Gandhi or Mandela. The OP can keep on believing the losers league, who call themselves the Unity forum. They are destined for failure, and do know it. They can satisfy themselves by deceiving foolish and gullible zombies like the OP, who take every word, without asking questions
Also, why is Midolian and the President afraid of submitting his list to the senate, with SARAKI as SP. If the ministers are from heaven, with spotless records and exemplary careers, why then is the President afraid. There is no way, the SP, can derail his ministers, if they are credible, scrupulous and qualified. How many of the President's appointees has the Senate rejected, None. If an old hack like Hammed Ali can commit that abomination, and still get away with it, then his heavenly ministers have nothing to fear.

PoliticsSaraki’s Loyalists To Rubbish Buhari’s Ministerial List As Rivals Plot His Remov by midolian(op):
Moves to impeach Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki are under way.

This is as members of the Senate Unity Forum had started wooing senators loyal to Saraki, mainly the Peoples Democratic Party members.

Saturday Punch reports that the SUF members are arguing that the ongoing trial of the Senate President at the Code of Conduct Tribunal was a dent on the image of the Senate.

The SUF decided to reach out to their rivals as they need two-thirds of Senators to impeach Saraki.

PDP has 49 Senators while APC has 59, excluding Senator Zannah who died.

On June 6, 57 out of 108 senators reportedly voted for Saraki.

This means that the SUF, which wants Senator Ahmed Lawan to emerge as Senate President, needs 21 more members to achieve victory.

But members of the group from the South-West geopolitical zone, told Punch that the SUF will soon hit the 73 figure.

He said, “We know that getting the required figure to carry out an impeachment at the moment would be a herculean task, but honestly we hope to achieve it very soon. Already there has been a serious move to get our former party members who are with Saraki now back to our camp.

“I can also confirm to you that we have the support of about 12 Peoples Democratic Party senators who are ready to support any move against Saraki. Don’t forget that some ranking PDP senators are still aggrieved over the emergence of freshers as their principal officers.”

Another source said the group was in a race against time to save President Muhammadu Buhari from facing embarrassment when he finally sends his ministerial list.

According to him, Saraki’s loyalists, in retaliation to his predicament, had decided to ridicule the list.

“We learnt that the like minds senators are already working on some of their supporters in the PDP camp to reject the ministerial list by refusing to screen them but we are also ready for them. I won’t disclose our strategy for now.”

It was also gathered that the SUF members were also working on a political solution to execute its agenda.

He said, “We know that he might want to give conditions like a settlement of his CCT case out of court, withdrawing of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charges against his wife and an end to his former manager’s trial for alleged fraud at the Société Générale Bank. We could help him in this regard to have a soft landing and avoid disgrace.”

Part of the strategy, the source added, would include sponsoring of a motion by a member of the group to draw the attention of the red chamber to the trial of Saraki and plead with him to save himself from unnecessary distraction by stepping aside for adequate concentration at the tribunal.

He said, “Nigerians should not see the on-going trial of the senate president as a witch-hunt, rather, they should rather try and find out whether it was true that he included a multi – million dollar property he bought in 2006 as part of his assets in 2003.

“We should stop playing politics with everything in this country. The mantra of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration is anti – corruption and it will not be proper to have a morally deficient person presiding over the affairs of the legislature, being a critical arm of government.

“The prosecution counsel had promised to shock Nigerians with the revelations of witnesses who had testified against the senate president at the CCT. The implication of this is that all the charges were not fabricated or invented to spite him. He should therefore go and face his trial.”

Attempts to get the reactions of the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed as well as that of the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, were unsuccessful.

The National Chairman of the party could not be reached as calls to his mobile telephone indicated that it was switched off.

Repeated calls to the mobile telephone numbers of Mohammed and Tinubu’s Spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Dare, were neither picked nor returned.

A response to text messages sent to them was still being awaited.

But reacting, a pro-Saraki senator said the Senate President was not threatened because the CCT had no jurisdiction to try him for any criminal offence.

He said, “The idea that members of the SUF are reaching out to pro-Saraki senators in the senate does not arise because majority of the members of the upper chamber had freely elected their presiding officers and would not be in a hurry to remove them because of any politically motivated trial by a tribunal which lacks jurisdiction to do so.

“Nobody can impeach or arrest the Senate President, and the lawyers are there to argue out the competence or otherwise of the CCT to try the case preferred against him. More than 80 senators had signed a document with which they unanimously passed a vote of confidence on their president.

“No senator had approached any of us on any issue of impeachment because they know the answer already. They cannot get 73 senators to impeach the Senate President. They are playing games and we are also ready for them.”

Without the likes of Tinubu and other people that made APC and Buhari the president, do you think Buhari would have been president?

He would have continued to suffer with his so-called loyal CPC till eternity. So why discard the others that sacrificed their time and resources to make him president on the alter of, those he that has been with him for years that couldn't even make him president sef.
there is no denying that Tinubu and co played a big role in making Buhari president. The Labour party are just minority wailers striving hard to get noticed. The whole thing here is exaggerated.. what they ve said is not completely true. Buhari works with all APC members but trusts his CPC goons more. This "trust" you and I know they deserve.
