ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu as the new Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Muhammadu succeeded Dr. Ade Abolurin, who has retired from service. A statement by the Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina on Friday confirmed the appointment. According to the statement, Muhammadu who hails from Muye in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State was an Assistant Commandant-General of the NSCDC before his new appointment. He holds a B.Sc in Sociology from the University of Sokoto and a Masters in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, on Thursday, said seven states in the North have resolved to end the Boko Haram insurgency. Yari stated this in a statewide television broadcast to commemorate the Eid-El-Fitr celebration, listing the states as Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Niger states. He said he and his colleagues, alongside Service Chiefs, have come up with a workable plan that would crush Boko Haram. Yari, who is the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, may have referrred to the outgone Service Chiefs. The governor lamented that many states, especially in the north, were finding it difficult to govern because of Boko Haram. Assuring the people of the state that things would get better, Yari appealed to them to bear with the little the administration had been able to provide for them during the Ramadan fast. Yari said this was caused by financial difficulties facing the nation.
