85-year-old Ahmed Joda To Head Buhari’s Transition Committee

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has short-listed 18 persons across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, who will make up his transition committee ahead of the May 29 handover date. The committee will be headed by Mallam Ahmed Joda.

It will be made up of three persons from each of the six geo-political zones. Sources told Thisday that the South-west has the highest representation (four persons).

The sources also hinted that the shortlist was not decided by Buhari alone; party leader Bola Tinubu also had a major and significant input in the list.

Thisday further quoted sources to have said that the committee will be inaugurated next week.

Other officials of the committee, according to Thisday sources, are Dr. Doyin Salami, who has been selected as Vice-chairman and Malam Adamu Adamu as secretary.

PoliticsChannelsTV: Test Confirms Methanol Poison Caused Ondo Deaths by midolian(op): 5:10pm On Apr 25, 2015
Test result from the laboratory of the National Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) shows deaths of some individuals in Ode-Irele in Ondo State was caused by methanol poison.

According to the results of the test carried out in Lagos State, the local gin consumed by the individuals contained a high concentration of the poisonous substance.

The outcome of the test was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju while briefing reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital on the latest development on the cause of the strange ailment that broke out in the town last week.

Adeyanju told the reporters that the poisonous drink had killed 23 people so far while 10 others were still receiving treatment at the UCH, Ibadan and at the General Hospital in Ode-Irele.

The Commissioner, however, again orders that sale and consumption of local gin otherwise called “Ogogoro” has been banned in the entire State ‎until it is fully established that it does not contain methanol poison.

Traditionalists in the state had attributed the cause of death to desecration of a shrineby some individuals, a claim that triggered massive visit to the shrine by individuals with water and leaf in an attempt to appease the gods.

PoliticsINCREDIBLE news from CNN!!! Can This Happen In NIGERIA? by midolian(op):
(CNN)How would you get your nation's president to hear you out? Put your name and number on a mango and hit him in the head with it?

No? Then you're not Marleni Olivo, who did exactly that, and in return is getting the new apartment she was asking for, said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Olivo, 54, saw her opportunity when Maduro visited Anzoategui, the state where she lives.

Maduro, a former bus driver, drove a bus to a rally Wednesday where he was meeting with supporters. The president had the window open, the better to greet people attending the rally.

Olivo had written a message on a mango -- "If you can, call me," -- along with her name and phone number. She got as close as she could and, as the bus passed, she tossed the fruit at Maduro.

In a video that has gone viral in Venezuela, Maduro is shown lowering his head when he is hit, just above the left ear. He then calmly picks up the mango and holds it up to the crowd.

Later in the evening, the president mentioned the incident in one of his customary live TV broadcasts and displayed the infamous mango as proof.

"Marleni Olivo," Maduro said. "We're going to invite her to my [TV and radio] show, 'In Touch with Maduro.' She had a housing problem, right? And, Marleni, I have approved it already, as part of the Great Housing Mission of Venezuela, you will get an apartment and it will be given to you in the next few hours. Tomorrow, no later than the day after tomorrow, we will give it to you."

Maduro also joked that he had something in common with the mango. The word "maduro" in Spanish means ripe.

Olivo told local media her intention was to toss the president a note, as others in the crowd were doing.

"I didn't have paper available at that moment," she told El Pitazo TV. "What I had was a mango that I was about to eat because I was hungry."

Maduro's critics are calling the incident a "manguicidio," a play on the words "mango" and "magnicidio," a Spanish word meaning assassination of a powerful leader. In Venezuela's extremely polarized political climate, Maduro frequently talks about his belief that the opposition is conspiring to target him for assassination.

But the mango-thrower says she had no evil intent.

"My dream is to own a home before I die," she told El Pitazo TV, adding that she had been very ill recently, that she suffers from diabetes and hypertension.

PoliticsUnpaid Subsidy: Oil Marketers Threaten To Stop Importation by midolian(op): 4:27pm On Apr 24, 2015
The Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) on Friday threatened to stop the importation of petroleum products over yet-to-be-paid N256 billion subsidy claim by the Federal Government.

The Executive Secretary of MOMAN, Mr Obafemi Olawore made the disclosure at a news conference in Lagos.

Olawore said that the last time the government paid marketers N100 billion subsidy claim was in February and it was paid in Sovereign Debt Note (SDN).

He said that the post-dated note would mature at the end of April.

The secretary-general said that before the N100 billion SDN was issued, the government was indebted to the tune of N315.8 billion.

“Besides, the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) had earlier approved Batches T and U for last quarter of 2014 for payment which amounted to N30.5billion.

“In 2015, we also have Batches A and B for the products imported by MOMAN which has been approved by PPPRA but had not been paid.

“This also amounted to N9.7 billion. So the money put together is N256 billion,” he said.

The secretary-general said that the unpaid subsidy had really affected the marketers from expanding their businesses.

Olawore said that the association’s fear was that the 2015 budget as passed by the House of Representative did not capture subsidy payment.

“If government is saying we should stop importation of petroleum or no more subsidies, they should please pay for what the association members had supplied.

“Right now, it is getting to a halt because we are bleeding; our suppliers are on us to pay for products supplied.

“As at April 22, what we have in our depots at Apapa will only last for three and half days, which shows that our members are finding it hard to bring in products.

“Our banks here are not even helping the situation because it has not been easy to access loan from them,” he said.

He urged the Federal Government to pay the claim so that marketers could continue with the importation and avoid scarcity of the products.

He added that NNPC could not import the products alone because presently MOMAN imports about 40 per cent of the nation’s consumption. (NAN)

hush15:
what are you saying, is that not what the government has been communicating for the last 3 years that people are revolting against?

Nigerians need to be realistic, we can't eat our cake and have it. to curb corruption in the oil sector, subsidy must go but we are not ready to endure the pain, forgeting when this happens refineries locally will bounce back and competition will beat the price down just as we have the mobile communication. How many communication companies do we have but price has dropped relatively low. the market will be more open to people who can venture into the market despite its huge financial requirements

But no, you were busy shouting occupy this occupy that... and yet, yo complaining of missing funds. you blame the government for everything, but the ones we cause by our being not reasonable is even far worse.

it simple, no pain no gain.
you don't understand. My point is, why did it take them so long to realize its not sustainable? Why make us bear the burden(by increasing fuel price), making us believe that refineries will be built? Why "now" that power is about to change hand? Why now that they have ruined the economy? It shall not be well with them..

Abegi shattap there, guy.

There are Northerners on the list. Just like they are few cos the selection is strictly based on MERIT. The North as it is constituted today cannot function if MERIT becomes the operating condition in Nigeria in stead of Nepotism and Federal character. That is just what this argument us all about. Nothing else. Buhari himself could NEVER had entered the Military and quickly become an official and then Head of State if the rule was not bent for him and his Hausa-Fulani mates.
