PoliticsBuhari Divides Ijaw Youth Council by midolian(op): 8:43am On Apr 06, 2015
The defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) in the presidential election may have polarised the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), the umbrella body of all Ijaw youths in the Niger Delta.

Our correspondent gathered that while a faction of the IYC, controlled by the President, Udengs Eradiri, had accepted the result of the presidential election and pledged that Ijaw youths would not resume attacks on oil facilities, another faction led by the spokesperson, Eric Omare, rejected the outcome of the election.

Eradiri had also congratulated Buhari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his electoral victory, saying that Ijaw youths would support his administration, just the same way youths from other parts of the country supported the Jonathan administration.

The IYC president had also warned that any Ijaw youths, who got involved in protest, destruction and other acts of violence, would be seen to be doing so at their own risks.

He said that the IYC would accept Buhari’s leadership, as the South-South region had had its chance, but could not use the position to its advantage.

But, in a surprise twist on Friday, the spokesperson of the Ijaw youth body said the IYC was not happy over Jonathan’s electoral loss.

Omare said in a statement that all Ijaw youths would converge on Tuomo in Burutu, Delta State on Sunday (today) to review the result of the presidential election.

He said: “The IYC has resolved to call for a National Congress of all Ijaw Youths on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Tuomo community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, where all the Ijaw Youths of the Niger-Delta region would meet to review the outcome of the Presidential elections.

“IYC will take a position and determine the next direction of our struggle for self-determination and resource control as enshrined in the historic Kaiama Declaration.

“We call on all Ijaw youths to be alert and ready to heed the call to the service of the Ijaw nation at this crucial time of our history and struggle for survival in the Nigerian state in the face of the grand conspiracy between the north and a section of the South West to continue to suppress and exploit the resource of the Ijaw nation.

“We recall that when President Jonathan, an Ijaw and from the South South, won an internationally acclaimed free, fair and credible election in 2011, General Buhari and his people never at any time congratulated or supported President Jonathan.

“Instead, they killed hundreds of innocent Nigerians and fought President Jonathan from the day he became the Acting President of Nigeria in 2010 until the north conspired with a section of the South West to take over the Presidency from President Jonathan and the minorities of the South-South in an election fraught with irregularities.

“It is also significant to note that none of the northern socio-cultural groups such as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and others congratulated or supported the administration of President Jonathan.

“Northerners created Boko Haram and blame it on President Jonathan deliberately to incite the northern populace against President Jonathan and make him unpopular in the 2015 election so as to take back power in a grand conspiracy with a section of the South West.

“Therefore, the April 5, 2015 meeting of all Ijaw youths would determine the position of the Ijaw youths on the 2015 Presidential election and our next line of action.”

PoliticsJonathan Tells Nigerians To Sacrifice For Buhari To Succeed by midolian(op): 6:50pm On Apr 05, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan has again emphasised that Nigerians must be ready to sacrifice in order to guarantee and great and prosperous nation.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa when he was paid the traditional Easter homage, President Jonathan said the in coming President, General Muhammadu Buhari can only succeed if Nigerians cooperate with him and are ready to make sacrifice for the nation.

He said "those countries who leaders  succeeded achieved such success because of the sacrifice of its people.

“As a people, as a government what I always believe ‎we should ask is what sacrifice are you making? Now it is not about supporting Jonathan or government, now Buhari is coming on board, it is not about supporting Burhari or his government but what sacrifice as an individual are you willing to make for government and for the nation?

“Nation building depends on the  sacrifice of individuals  and the patriotism of the citizens. These are two key elements, we must be ready to sacrifice for our nation.

“If you are a businessman and you say you are supporting government but you don’t pay tax, how do you expect that government to survive? That government will not survive.

“To me whenever I travel to different countries and see things work, those things didn’t fall down as manna people made sacrifice, therefore in Nigeria people must also be ready to make the required sacrifice. Whoever becomes president is immaterial ‎so long as the citizens are happy. Our children go to school, when we are sick they go to  good hospital and of course the economy blossoms” he said.

The children littered all over this forum have been shouting 'the fear of Buhari' like the creeks care. The only way option on this Issue is seeking peace for a start.

Even when Buhari assumes office, he must be careful as well to carry every group along. If he misfires, things will get ugly so quickly.

We'll be walking on egg shells for a long time.
shaaaraaap abeg...where is the beauty of democracy if after a peaceful election, one ugly thing will begin to threaten the peace of the nation jst because the result of the election doesn't favour him? WARRI-EX-AGITATOR, “Gen” Augustine Ogedegbe, weekend, pleaded with the leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Front, NDPVF, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari to accept the reality that General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) is now the President-elect of Nigeria just as President Goodluck Jonathan and others have accepted it.

Ogedegbe in a statement in Warri, said, “I want to use this opportunity to call on a very high leader, Alhaji (General) Asari Dokubo to please key into the peace drive of Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. Asari, please let us give peace a chance, I beg you in the name of God not go against the wish of Jonathan.”

He said, “The President has displayed leadership and the international world has rated him as an elder statesman, please we should not breach the peace of this country for our self-interest, Nigeria as a nation is more important than any individual, I urge all the Niger Delta agitators to embrace peace and see General Mohamadu Buhari’s victory as God’s will.”

According to him, “We all should get ready to work with the President- elect, General Buhari to take Nigeria as a country to a very high level. We need development, infrastructure and human capital development for Niger Delta and Nigeria at large, we must not forget Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda for Nigeria nation.”

“ I therefore Congratulate General Mohamadu Buhari for his victory as president elect, your victory as the winner of presidential election in the 2015 poll is a sign that God is with
Nigeria as one nation, one people, one county,” he asserted.

PoliticsRevealed: How Ahmadu Ali Made Jonathan Concede Victory by midolian(op): 9:03am On Apr 05, 2015
Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan, may have become an instant hero of the March 28 Presidential election for conceding victory to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, Muhammadu Buhari, before results were officially declared.

Facts have, however, emerged that the man behind the president’s heroic action is former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmadu Ali.

According to information made available to Sunday Independent, Ali prevailed on Jonathan’s to accept defeat and the follow up phone call.

It was gathered that even though results from the fields had indicated that Buhari was enjoying a comfortable lead, the PDP chief were undaunted following their conviction that the election was characterised by irregularities in the North and South, and were preparing to launch a showdown with the opposition.

Sources said it was the party’s belief that given the high incidence of alleged under-age voting in the North and purported disenfranchisement in the South West, the outcome of the exercise might not have stood the test of time, should they go ahead to press for redress.

This notion, it was gathered, was what most of the party chieftains in Abuja had while the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Attahiru Jega, was announcing results from the states on Tuesday.

But, the President and Ali thought otherwise, as they considered what would happen to the nation if he (Jonathan) had refused to accept defeat.

Consequently, a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) and campaign organisation of the party, was summoned at the instance of Ali.

At the meeting, which was well attended, it was learnt that the unfolding situation was reviewed, leading to Ali’s counsel for the PDP to concede defeat.

That resulted in the now famous congratulatory phone call the President made to Buhari at little past 5.pm on Tuesday.

The timing, a presidency source said, was made for so many reasons, including among others, the need to douse tension on both sides and to get the All Progressives Congress (APC) focus on transition than politicking.

The former PDP chairman was also said to have helped create a synergy between the Villa and the Campaign Directorate.

Alongside other party leaders like Tony Anenih, Ali reportedly ensured that the campaign directorate did not derail from its focus.

Reliable sources at the presidency confirmed the story, but added that the action of former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, also accounted for the reason Jonathan accepted the defeat, as the former minister’s action threw the country into chaos.
