LIVE UPDATES
In Kano, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is the sole governorship aspirant of APC. The party has adopted direct primaries.
At 11:28am, in Yalwa Primary School, the venue of Yalwa ward congress in Dala local government, less than 20 members of APC had arrived. No election officials arrived yet.
A member of APC in the area, AbdurRahman Ibrahim, told PREMIUM TIMES that the reason for the low turn out of the people may not be unconnected with presidential primaries experience where people spent hours waiting for party officials who were responsible for conducting the primaries |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is conducting statewide primaries to choose its governorship candidates in 27 states this Sunday. Today will bring a verdict for hundreds of political gladiators who have been lobbying to get the party’s priced ticket to be candidates in the 2019 governorship election, which is part of the general election scheduled for February. Due to widespread division amongst aspirants in several states over issues ranging from to zoning to potential imposition of candidates by some so-called godfathers, the party at the national level decided to adopt a flexible mode in conducting its primaries this year.
The adoption of direct and indirect primaries was the immediate solution the party could come up with. Although the party acknowledges its approach may not be perfect, the two options would go a long way in mitigating post-primaries crises that often characterise Nigerian elections.
The APC looked into existing disagreements at each of the 37 state chapters (including Abuja) and recommended either direct or indirect method, depending on which has a better likelihood of keeping members united after primaries.
The direct mode means individuals who have APC membership card would go to the primaries ground and elect who they want to be the party’s candidate. This exercise is seen as more transparent and inclusive because it gives members a say on who should be their party’s choice.
In indirect exercise, some individuals who have attained the position of delegates in party structure would choose the candidate. This method has been widely criticised for being too monetised over the years.
Delegates are known to collect huge amount of cash from aspirants, sometimes at convention grounds, to elect a candidate, with the most lavish often emerging victorious.
While direct primaries could be considered cumbersome and time-consuming, the method is less prone to manipulation than indirect primaries, and all members share responsibility in the quality of leadership of whomever gets the party’s ticket.
Twenty-seven states will hold governorship primaries today. The remaining nine states include Bayelsa, Edo, Kogi, Osun, Anambra, Ekiti and Ondo, whose governorship seats are not up for contest in the upcoming general elections, and Lagos and Imo, whose primaries were postponed at the eleventh-hour last night. – Eighteen states are conducting indirect primaries today, while the remaining nine opted for the direct method. Below is a catalogue of all states where primaries hold today. PREMIUM TIMES will bring you live updates of activities at the venues from across the country.

The People's Devilish Party is an evil party! I think serious legal action should be taken against them. Enough of these lies These lies are enough to prove to any sane creation of God that the PDP has nothing at all to offer but deceit, hunger, calamity, darkness, looting and every other evil thing that can make the devil proud |

Well, this is what I feel about the whole Ambode Vs Sanwo-olu thing..
Ambode has to be a terrible person, otherwise the whole world can't be against him. It's too obvious.
Tinubu can't be so powerful to influence the decision of all major stakeholders in Lagos APC in favour of Sanwo-olu.
What makes Ambode's case worse is the support he is getting from the other side. The moment you start receiving praises from the misguided folks, know that your end is near politically. |

Buterflyle0:

When Oshiomhole demanded that all APC members should be registered he had a plan and his plan is unfolding already.
You now understand why Saraki, Kwankwaso and others had to buy 2 electoral forms. One for Presidency and another for senate
Even they know they are in trouble |

Rivers must surely give PMB nothing less than 600k to 700k votes come 2019 I think this direct primaries is just to intimidate the opposition and it's unfair. It's too early to start thinking about how difficult life will be after losing elections come 2019 |

Daviddson: Wow! Manufactured result. When PDP raised alarm that APC's purpose for direct election was to make it a prelude for rigging, many of us bashed them, but we now see they were right. As much as I prefer Buhari to win the election, I must condemn it if they want to achieve it through rigging.
When I read earlier this morning that they said they have 1.7mn registered members in Lagos, it became clear this people's desperation had taken a new phase. Anyway thank God for electronic card readers. Am in pains

Governor Rochas Okorocha has said that President Muhammadu Buhari remains the best option for the South – East and her people in the 2019 election looking at all those jostling for the same position in other Political Parties and also Judging from the achievements of the President in the area.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Screen-Shot-2018-09-29-at-11.15.26.png Chief Charlse Amadi (centre) announcing the result of the Presidential Primary in Imo at the Nick Banquet Hall Owerri Friday night. With him are Prince Macdonald Akano (left) and Hon. Ikechi Awuka (right).
Governor Okorocha spoke Friday night after the announcement of the result of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Primary, at the Nick Banquet Hall Owerri, stating that President Buhari will win in the entire South – East in 2019.
He said “In the 2011 election, the PDP people were able to rig and write fictitious figures to misrepresent the facts on ground. But in the 2015 election, the PDP also manipulated the results of the South – East states to portend dislike and resentment for Muhammadu Buhari. But we fought them to standstill to ensure that they did not perpetuate their heinous act of writing unrealistic results. Hence, the South – East votes ensured an even spread for the emergence of Mr. President”.
He stated “What we are doing today is the APC Presidential Primary for President Muhammadu Buhari. It is also very clear that the President is Contesting the 2019 Presidential election on the platform of APC as the sole candidate of the party. But like the Constitution approves, whether it’s one person or more than one candidate, the electorate must exercise their franchise”.
He continued “So, we have come to show our love towards him by queuing to vote for him massively. We’re doing this to know the number of the Party members from each ward that are approving his candidature for 2019 presidential election. So, I’m here with my people to assure President Muhammadu Buhari that Imolites are with him come 2019.”
The governor further averred, “I am very happy for the large turnout as people had trooped out in their large numbers to ensure victory for our Party, APC and our presidential flag-bearer, President Muhammadu Buhari and also to assure him that APC is the Party on ground in Imo State.”
Announcing the result of the Presidential Primary, the State returning officer, Chief Charlse Amadi said President Buhari garnered six hundred and ninety seven thousand, five hundred and thirty-two votes out of the nine hundred and forty-four, eight hundred and forty-three registered members.
Eventually, the Coalition Chieftains in the State and handful of their followers never showed up in any ward in the State for the Primary thereby giving credence to the information that they have gone to other parties but only in APC to cause trouble. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/09/president-muhammadu-buhari-best-option-for-south-east-in-2019-okorocha/ |
