Hello all, I have good news. I haven't checked my visa status in a while, I decided to do so yesterday, and my status was 'ISSUED'! I equally received an sms and a mail yesterday asking me to go pick it up in dhl wuse 2, which I did this morning. I am short of words because just last week it was on REFUSED and today its been ISSUED. Thank you so much to everyone who gave me a listening ear on this platform. I really appreciate... PS: I'm going to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, anyone there could chat me up. fairheart: It is also important to note that this could be a result of system error. For clarification, call the embassy line immediately. Make sure you call them today, or latest tomorrow morning. Then go to your pick up location on Friday to pick your passport. |

Thank you. LagosismyHome: Here your responses were sufficient as you initially got through. For some reason your bank statement might have been the issue . I know most embassies dont like lump sum and prefer seeing steady in and out . Not sure how to advice other than maybe go again and hope for the best . Or maybe you should have used your mum bank statment or gone with it |

Thank you. I really appreciate this. I'll work on it. sheke01: You were only asked one important question "Why UNCG" and you didn't really do justice to the question. You gave a lot of generic points that didn't help to explain why you chose UNCG among all the schools in North Carolina. I guess so many schools in NC are offering your course with negotiations and mediation concentration, there are other affordable states in the US, and there are other prestigious state owned schools. Faculty ratio is a generic response that the VO would have heard a million times and a great standard of living shouldn't really be a determining factor that influences a student to choose a school over several others. At least from a VO point of view.
Why this school is a very common question that is asked at the start of almost all interviews, but sadly applicants give a very generic answer to this question. Response to "Why this school" should focus more on stuffs this school has that would aid you in achieving you academic dream. You should give specific examples too and not just generic response
Visa interview is a very short interview and you would want to create a good impression with the response to your very first/second question.
In my opinion I think your response to the "why UNCG" marred your chances and all other questions were just asked for asking sake. Work on your response to this and refire. hopefully you will get your visa at the next attempt. Hope this helps, Adios |

I intend to once I pick up my passport. Thank you. Humble11: As if I know, it’s common with Abuja embassy. I don’t know why. Maybe system error. The lump sum actually contributed to this. Please try again |

Okay. Here it is........... V.O: I can see you are going to UNCG for a masters in peace and conflict studies? Me: Yes,i am. V.O: Why UNCG Me: the major things i looked out for when applying was a school that offers my course,an affordable state, and the school's reputation. UNCG offers my course and an area that best fits my interest (negotiations and mediation), and its also one of the most prestigious US state owned universities and the students to faculty ratio is 18.1,which for me is a very good academic standard. North carolina on its own is one of the most affordable states in the country, and the standard of living there is great. And so for me, UNCG ticked of all my boxes in those areas. V.O: did you apply to other schools , and where you accepted by all? Me: answered in the affirmative. V.O: Who is your sponsor? Me: my dad and my maternal uncle. V.O: What do they do? Me: (explained to her) V.O: (asks for their statements). She goes through it, and points out the part where my mum transfered a lump sum to my dad 2 days before the statement was printed. She asked who it was, and i explained to her that it was my mum. V.O: i will be holding on to your passport and financial documents for further validation. You will be contacted in 3days. ( No white slip, no blue slip or even the pink letter) An hour later i checked my status, and it was REFUSED. Humble11: Please post your transcript for gurus in the house to review and possibly tell you were you missed it. |

I called, and I was asked to send a mail. I did send a mail, and I received a response stating that my visa was refused under section 214(b) ( no close ties to home). I wasnt even asked any question in that area. I was just asked 2 questions, and that was it. It's so unfair! fairheart: It is also important to note that this could be a result of system error. For clarification, call the embassy line immediately. Make sure you call them today, or latest tomorrow morning. Then go to your pick up location on Friday to pick your passport. |

Hello, good evening. I attended my F1 visa interview today in abuja by 7:30. I answered all the questions asked. The lady took my passport and the financial statements she said she needs to validate the documents. An hour later, I checked my status, and I saw REFUSED. I'm really confused as to why she collected my passport if she was still going to refuse me the visa. LagosNIV: Rest ssure that there is a solution to this technical issue. I was hoping that would be the case for me too, until I checked the visa status and saw REFUSED Nutshell44: My passport and statement were also collected in Abuja for verification and they issued it the third day Nutshell44: Hope the SOA is genuine? That could also be a problem |

Okay, I would like to know if anyone has had similar experience, and did the status change? I would also like to know how long it takes to get the passport back so that I can apply again as soon as possible. Humble11: It’s common with Abuja embassy, I don’t know why it’s so |

Hello all, I attended my F1 visa interview today. The officer said she was going to hold on to my passport and financial statements. Barely 30mins later, I checked my visa status on the site, and it showed refused. I'm confused because she still has my passport and documents. |

Hi, I'm new here. I just attended my F1 visa interview this morning. After the interview, the lady collected my passport, i-20 and bank statements. She said she will need to verify my statements and get back to me. |
