Nobody will talk about this cos its not messi. Remember how Blatter used the award dat year to console Cristiano for calling him a footballer that spends more time in the salon while Messi a conjurer.The statement did not go down well with Ronaldo as he criticized Blatter and Fifa the result was the reopening of voting after voting had closed for people to change their votes.Absurd

The type of leaders the people get is the type of leaders they deserve.The leaders whom we so much lament over are a reflection of ourselves. They emanate from amongst us.The system we cry fowl about is a synergistic and a carefully oiled association between the leaders and the follwers. We get what we deserve. If we the followers who are certainly leaders in different capcities don't first get hit by the hurricane of mental revolution,then ultimately we would at best be able to present nothing short of shambolic leaders to represent us.I can go on and on about how a mental revolution can cause a ripple effect in the quality of leaders we produce but I think this is enough for us to ponder over.

I don't know what drives men to suicide.
I don't know what moves a man to end it all.
I don't know if a man has the right to put an end to what he didn't start.
I don't know if we will ever understand life,
Let alone, understanding death.
I don't know if suicide is an option at all.


But I know this….

I know that life is hard… but it is also beautiful.
I know that life is like a rose, beautiful but thorny.
I know that living is all about bravery.
The courageous always choose to live and brave the storm.
We may feel torn about by the turmoils,
But we never give up….
We understand that,
Without "braving the thorns, we shouldn't crave the rose",
We understand that Life comes with challenges as a full package,
We can't avoid one package and expect to enjoy the other.
Life is for daredevils,
Living is just like surfing and riding the Waves.
Life is such a thrilling ride that I don't understand why suicide should even be in the options….

I know that we may get weary of the struggle.
But a brave man never backs down.
A good captain always goes down with his ship.
A ferocious warrior never abandons his troops in the battlefront.
We are Spartans, till death we shall battle.
And when we conquer death,
We shall once again, live.
Riding into the battle with our company.
A company of brave men who dared to conquer.

Never commit suicide.

And fight the good fight of life.

The biggest problem of Ugandans or Africans in general is this illusionary belief that they could change their countries by voting a different person into power. It is this belief that all problems of a country start and stop with the President. That if you could just have the right man in power, then all of a sudden, Africa would transform. This is what they call chasing a mirage, imagining some utopia. Unfortunately utopias are never realized in life.

The actual problem of Africa is not the presidents. From where do these presidents come? From within. The problem of Africa, the problem of Uganda is its citizens, their shared values and mentalities. The day Africans wakeup, and stop looking for an external enemy and realize that they themselves are Africa's problem is the day we shall get closer to finding an African solution.

I have often told friends that I am happiest whenever the MPs draw bigger salaries every financial year. As Ugandans we lambast our representatives in public for drawing these salaries. In private, we drain our MPs. We invite them for funerals, for introduction ceremonies and expect them to contribute out of pocket to save us. A Ugandan MP attends no less than 10 functions in a week on average. They are expected to find jobs for their people. They must contribute towards the least of needs. These big salaries they draw, they all go straight to the people they represent. Yet it seems some of us live in an illusion called Uganda. We expect our MPs to act as MPs in UK except that in our case, we also expect to play donor to their people's needs.

We decry the corruption in the country yet we bribe to get our children in the best schools. We bribe our way out of police tickets. We have no respect for traffic rules. We are every evil we see in the president and his team.

Every ill you can diagnose in Museveni and his government, you will find twice or thrice the magnitude in a Ugandan citizen.

We complain of government incompetence, yet go ahead to champion incompetence in every aspect of our lives where government has no control. Our carpenters produce substandard furniture.

I often ask myself; if the public sector is too incompetent, how come the private sector has not been any better? How come you are more bound to have a misdiagnosis in a private hospital than in a public hospital?

Daily Monitor, Observer, Red Pepper, New Vision write stories everyday that highlight government incompetence. Yet, there will never be a single day where you will pick up a Ugandan newspaper and fail to find an error on every page.

Perhaps one day as Ugandans we ought to self reflect, and look within and realize, that we are demons we are trying to fight. If Museveni and his government were the only incompetent people and everyone else was competent, then Uganda would be a scandinavian country of sorts. Why don't we have world class restaurants in the country? Why is it that customer care sucks in private institutions just as it does in public institutions?

Every Ugandan I meet complains of the system, of the incompetence. Then I ask myself; "you dear Ugandan, where can I find examples of your excellent output?"

The same people who complain of poor working conditions run slavery rings in their own homes. The day maids of this country decide to speak out, we shall be shocked at the evil we sustained in our homes.

I now suspect that our anger, our rants, our complaints about the system are all because this system is a daily reminder of our own incompetences, our own weaknesses as a people. What this government has done is hold a mirror up to the Ugandan society and we are not happy about our own reflection.

Today I read a sad story. That there are about 20,000 Asians in Uganda, less than 0.5% of the Ugandan Population. And that these pay 64% of our tax revenues. To put it simply, even the taxes we complain that government mishandles, more than half of them are paid by non-Ugandans. In other words, we don't even have a right to complain.

That should signify an innate Ugandan problem. There is something deeply wrong around how the Ugandan and African societies are constructed. Ugandan Citizens promise so much and deliver so little. Our shared beliefs, mindsets and values have been constructed in such a way that regardless of the president in power, we shall always produce substandard results. It is no wonder that all over Africa, we complain of the same problems. Littered cities, corruption, failed government institutions, name it all. You could fly from Uganda to Malawi to Ghana to Zambia and not notice a difference. Because? It is not a problem of presidents. It is a problem of the African citizens. But they are too scared of self-criticism, they have dabbled in escapism and found scapegoats in their leaders.

As Plato wrote in the Republic; "like man, like state." We can't expect to have better leaders until we have better people. You can't create great companies without great employees. It doesn't matter how great the CEO is, if she has crap employees, she will have a crap company. That is the case of Uganda and other African countries!

Creating gainful employment and engaging the youths properly might be a laudable step in curbing internet fraud in Nigeria but then again a comment made my by a secondary school mate got me thinking. He said "even if I see government work today walahi I no fit stop Yahoo". Now I am of the opinion that Wt the eroded norms and values in our society, even if jobs are created Yahoo will still be the order of the day because the culture of greed,flamboyance,showoff,oppression and impatience has replaced the culture of Contentment, patience and honest labour.

Well a Friend of mine and secondary school mate once preached to me about joining the Yahoo Yahoo bandwagon. He waxed lyrical about how lucrative it was and what baffled me the most was that he said "Even though I get a govt job today, I will continue doing Yahoo".

I am yet to see how the church is living up to its responsibility or name tag if u like as the light of the world.Lemme ask who needs light when there is no darkness? Everyone certainly needs light and the world we live in is enmeshed in the darkness of greed,poverty,hatred, political instability and so on but what has the church done to overshadow these gross darkness. In the church,I once heard that the spiritual controls the physical. This got me thinking and I am like if Nigeria has we have it today is like dis then it means that there is something wrong with the spiritual climate of Nigeria inspite of all the churches in Nigeria or it is either we over spiritualize everything to the detriment of our physical growth.

If we as a people cannot balance morality,reality and our instincts but get swayed each time by our instinct for greed and immediate gratification we would no doubt be setting ourselves up for an implosion of immeasurable catastrophe. How I wish I can say that we aren't on that path already.

Of course I thought I had everything mapped out.I thought I was taking steps that would at least make me turn the corner around poverty but as I write I can feel the cold and unrelenting grasp of these dreaded monster as it encapsulates me and threatens to snuff the life out of me.If you are reading this,you might be wondering who I am.I am Ayodeji a secondary school teacher who teaches chemistry and who his currently running a part-time PGDE programme in OOU.I hope that someday I will become a professional teacher but at the moment the services I render seems to be more like a community service because I am owed with reckless abandon, not just me but the entire staff of the school where I teach with the exception of the female secretary who works closely with the owner of the school because in place of the gloom and dissatisfaction written on our faces is joy and satisfaction written on her face.What is more disheartening is the unwillingness of the staff to take drastic measures.Below is the body of letter I drafted out to voice our displeasure all I needed was the signature of every member of staff but to my dismay I didn't get it.

We the teachers of Lakunce citadel college are perplexed and mystified to say the least at the usual delay in the salaries and emolument due to us. Finally sir,we urge you to treat our situation in earnest devoid of sentiments because when the reward for labour is absent,dissatisfaction creeps in and with dissatisfaction comes a decreased output which invariably can cause things to fall apart or plunge into chaos. We believe and hope that you would attend speedily to our plight as teachers because severally you have alluded yourself to being our brother,we see you as such that is why we are optimistic that you are not beyond reason.As we reason out the way forward, may God almighty bless us all according to the sincerity of our hearts.

Well I feel dat if the Nigerian army wants to depopulate the south east by using a biological weapon, they would come up with something more virulent than monkey pox virus a virus that probably has an incubation period of a few minutes to a day so dat the individual who comes in contact with it dies almost immediately thereby reducing the risk of the virus being carried to other regions. However what is being peddled around is false, baseless,illogical and outrightly ridiculous .The mere fact that this rumour was bought goes to show dat the easterners do not trust the Nigerian govt and as such every move taken by them is viewed suspiciously.
