Is Beauty More Rewarding Than The Brain In Nigeria? By Ishola Kayode

In this era where there is an “unjust” pontification on Beauty over the brain, one needs to wonder a little the trends that preceded and made things turn that way.

Its a common thing to see people who made success in the fashion, entertainment, modelling and many other relevant industries that will be placed in the “beauty” category being giving more than enough kudos and attention.

The story of Bread seller turned model Olajumoke and most recently the first Unilag graduate to have hit the much coveted “perfect distinction” of 5.0. Their cases can be said to be a perfect and the most relevant example of the beauty and the brain.

When Olajumoke was discovered, her life took a total turn around. She got the most media attention. She got a new and fresh apartment, was reunited with her hobby, got an interview on CNN, became a motivational speaker, has featured in numerous photo shoots just to remain in the news…and a myriad of other motivations and rewards. Her benefactor,T.Y bello also featured in the show as many “Nigerians” kept showering praises on her…her act also prompted some celebrities to follow suit in turning around lives..

Yesterday, the University of Lagos unveiled their record setting graduate… Who hit the target by attaining a 5.0 CGPA. This guy failed to get less than an A in all his numerous courses throughout his undergraduate years. That’s a hell of achievement and as usual the media is reporting it but not like that of the Breadseller turned Model’s story..Why? That’s because Nigerians will become adamant and hypocritic judge instantly cause his success was not inspired by a notable celebrity. No T.Y Bello, Olamide, Don Jazzy, Lindaikeji in his story..Hmm, No interviews on CNN, so far it’s been just a mention on NTA. No photoshoots (Lolz..that may not be necessary though), No academic oriented firm or NGO is reporting or commending him “visibly” plus the fact that some folks are commonising this laudable feat and making dumb cracks with it..

Anyway, this is not the first time this beauty and the brain ratings is taking the space and as usual, we all know which will win..

Just that I feel if we want to develop as a nation, I mean if we wanna leave the stage of the developing nations to the developed ones..We need to reward and promote people with the brain. Not forgetting that if we fail to honour them, we are deterring hardworking and excellence in the Academic niche and its takes little time for the consequences to manifest in our Nation.

The government make policies that dictate how her citizens do business.
In Nigeria, there is policy oscillation thus investors are skeptical to making ''real'' investment.
In the poultry farming, once the borders are not well manned both eggs and frozen chicken comes in and that makes the local investors operate at a loss.

The recent high patronage we are witnessing in eggs and live chickens are all result of government aid by blocking its coming through the land borders.
Do you see how the government decides?
Do you get it?

Nigeria's AFCON hopes in tatters after Oliseh shock exit
by Staff Reporter

Friday Feb 26, 2016. 13:52

Nigeria’s campaign for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations has suffered a massive setback after coach Sunday Oliseh quit on Thursday.

Oliseh, who is just eight months into a three-year contract, said he quit after he did not enjoy the support of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), who also breached his contract severally.

And this comes just a month to a crunch home game against Egypt in the northern town of Kaduna with the reverse leg two days later in Cairo.

He is owed at least four months’ pay and has been unable to tour Europe as proposed to visit some of the country’s top stars ahead of crucial Nations Cup qualifiers against seven-time champions Egypt.

“We have received Oliseh’s resignation and we will meet and decide on what next,” said a shaken NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi, who spoke from Zurich where delegates have gathered for today’s FIFA presidential polls.

Last year, Nigeria failed to defend the Nations Cup title they won in 2013 in South Africa after they were upstaged by South Africa and Congo Brazzaville in the qualifiers.

The three-time African champions are also in danger of missing out on a second straight tournament as they are two points behind Egypt after two rounds of matches with only the overall group winners guaranteed automatic qualification to next year’s competition in Gabon.

Former national team official Ben Alaiya said Oliseh’s resignation has further compromised the country’s qualification chances.

“It’s a shock. He should not have quit, it was like abandoning the ship in the middle of the sea. It was a big slap to 180 million Nigerians,” he said.

“But we must move ahead and look at the options because we have very important games against Egypt next month.”

Former Nigeria international Dosu Joseph said the NFF must move quickly to appoint a successor to stay on track for Gabon 2017.

“Many of us saw this coming, but we now need to move forward because we have beat Egypt at least at home or else kiss goodbye to the Nations Cup,” he warned.

“The NFF must now sit up for the matches against Egypt because it will be a disaster if we failed again to qualify for the Nations Cup.”

Former Nigeria coaches Shuabu Amodu and Samson Siasia are the early front runners as caretaker coaches before a substantive coach is named.

The experienced Amodu has severally handled the Eagles, qualifying Nigeria to the 2002 and 2014 World Cups, and he is currently the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical director.

Siasia posted a short stint as Eagles between 2010 and 2011. He was sacked after he failed to qualify Nigeria to the 2012 Nations Cup jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Emmanuel Amuneke, who has been promoted to the Under-20 national team after he led the Golden Eaglets to a fifth FIFA U17 World Cup in November, could also be considered for the country’s top coaching post.

However, it is expected that Salisu Yusuf, who has assisted Oliseh, will stay on to be a link between the coach and the team his former boss was trying to build before he threw in the towel.

LordAdam:
PMB should make this guy a consultant. He just nailed it here.

A. Full diversification of the economy cannot happen overnight.
B. There should be good fiscal policies that would create incentives for budding industries. Right now there is none.

These are the real issues not "exchange rate" or devaluation/no devaluation. Even if we devalue the naira now, nothing will improve because there are no policies to take advantage of the decision.

I'm positive that if Buhari spends one month to assemble a formidable team, and brainstorm on a range of policies to affect budding Nigerian industries especially the buoyant agric sector, investors confidence will be piqued and the economy will stop falling. Look at the fiscal policies on local processing of rice and automotive policy by GEJ. Those are sound policies.

Buhari needs to push forward with good policies of his own. Tomatoes are wasting in the north and we are still importing tomato paste when our local tomato paste manufacturers face plenty of logistical challenges. That mini-industry needs government input. Increase import duty on tomato paste and make low interest loans available for the producers. Very soon, like with cement, we would be totally dependent on local production and start exporting tomato paste.

There are many mini-industries like that, that need Buhari's timely intervention to grow and further diversify the economy, but the dullard will prefer to travel without placing emphasis on the economy.

in my opinion, i think PMB ought to have firstly built institutions, strenghten them and them come out two years later to nail corrupt fellows. the current fight against corruption is centered too much on the individual called Buhari. this is the reason, no matter how far he trys no body is in jail 9 months later.
