Hi all,

I'm currently waiting to obtain my Canadian work permit (I am not in Canada at the moment) - Can you please advise what is the best sites to find work and accommodation (apartments)?

I haven't been to Canada before, I have been researching and I think I will be looking to stay in the Toronto/Mississauga area.

Thanks in advance.
TravelUK T-mobile Iphone To Work In Nigeria by mimi234(op): 4:51pm On Jul 20, 2012
Hey guys,

not sure if this topic goes here but I will be travelling to Nigeria very soon and really want to use the internet on my iphone(fb, twitter, instagram etc) in Nigeria. T-mobile (UK) has told me the max they do is 20mb for £37.5 which I think is a bump kmt...20mb is nothing. I wanted to ask is there any way I could use the internet providers in Nigeria without taking out my sim card.

For instance pay to connect to a wifi on my iphone? My phone is locked to Tmobile but they said that I can connect to any wifi where the internEt providers over there may charge me.

If anyone else has taken their iphone to Nigeria what other way could I still use my internet pls help?!

Just curious.

When you go to Nigeria for holidays with your family how long do you stay? Would you say two weeks is too short??

Shes only 21 I think having babies is the least of her priorities don't you? Plus your only 24 you have a lot of time relax!! Pop some champagne and enjoy life. Babies will come in due time.

Give us how Londoners say it! You mean Londoners like you will rather say - "We dey go Naija soon"

Mtcheewww. This is not our Lingo - even Naija man self dey call himself Londoner. Why are u, Naija based, they form say u na Londoner?
Theres no need to be rude, i know what i'm talking about. Born and bred in London. In the context that she said it , I would have said 'Hi everyone,

I'm going to Nigeria in The first week of March or Hey everyone I'll be going to Nigeria in the first week of March'. Anyways there all the same I was just agreeing with vicjus point. lipsrsealed

Will have to agree with vicjus on this one ,

KeMe91:
Coming to Nigeria,
This is not our lingo (London-lingo) (well not in the context she she used it), however she may not be originally from the UK i.e. Wasn't born and bred here/haven't lived in the UK that long, are you an international student or something.

Wouldn't it be wise if you come with a friend that is Nigerian rather than two complete strangers.

RomanceRe: Plz Frnds I Need Ur Advice Can 40k Sustain A Family Jst Wants To Mary by mimi234: 12:27am On Feb 24, 2012
tbh I don't know which women would want to marry a guy that makes 40k , and she doesn't have to be a gold-digger. I don't know why must they marry can't they continue dating huh lipsrsealed

Can you not do something on the side like a small business to supplement your earnings. I'm sure you must be financially stressed out even before getting married.
RomanceRe: Plz Frnds I Need Ur Advice Can 40k Sustain A Family Jst Wants To Mary by mimi234: 6:20pm On Feb 23, 2012
To the OP,

You need to set yourself up before taking another person on your bandwagon.

Are you living independently i.e. in your own flat or are you still with parents?

If the above is yes then I think you can get married hopefully she will also have a job and together to can survive.

However if you still living under somebody be it parents, older sis/bro or cousins then you better not try get married o, Because you may end up breaking up out of financial frustrations lolol

Good good good. I am doing well, well well. Thanks and hope you are enjoying the weather today grin.

Indeed, let's allow God to decide. But, what happens if both a job and a top master's admission work out for you? What would you do?

By the way, the firms you applied to in Lagos, are they into IB or something similar?

Lool, you are not interested in PE and HF. Do you know how many IB analysts are dying to enter PE or even HF?

In any case, I suspect that I will have to send you an email if those 2 firms you are not interested in are IBs. I will be glad to take the remnants cool

T22
I really don't know what I would do if both a job and masters comes through i'd most probably stick with the job and then later on do my masters lolol. I applied to few IB's and Asset management firms in Lagos. But the ones that got back are all Asset managers with one IB firm - but I'd prefer that than the research analyst internship I'm currently doing.

Noo the firm I'm working with supplies financial information to PE's and HF's not that the firm is actually PE or HF although there could be chances of networking but I'm terrible at that  lipsrsealed .

Eh, you got ripped off then. Sorry about that. Accommodation isn't set to rise so £250 is around that price a week.
cheesy

Rephrase that line cause that didn't make sense, or I just didn't understand,
ripped off? are you not reading what I am typing i said rent in my uni town is in the range of £300 - £400 per month that makes it £75-£100 per week!! that's cheaper than the £250 you state as the starting price, mehnn i think your confused.

People should refrain themselves from putting wrong info that may mislead people.
And what I was saying is that London is the capital city so prices are generally higher than elsewhere in the UK however if you go to a university outside of London prices will drop/fall/reduce/decrease; and there are lots of really good uni's outside London
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by mimi234: 8:27pm On Feb 16, 2012
mrcheeky:
I was born in the UK. Parents are Nigerian.

I would say it is very TOUGH to get a job here in England due to the economic crisis. Inflation is increasing and jobs are decreasing so it is very hard to survive here. You'd end up applying to 20-50 jobs a day with no result, lucky enough to even get an interview  angry

Accommodation isn't cheap. Some starting from £250 per week (N62,425 a week) which isn't righteous for Nigerians. Looks like a mission to get that money right?

To those who are travelling to this country looking for work and education I'd advise you to come prepared, have a plan and survive!
Really?? I think that info right there is wrong, accommodation costs vary wherever you decide to stay , of course in London housing is very expensive but the town where i did my uni a room was about £300-£400 per month no where near £250 per week. Once you come out of London prices of accommodation will drop.

Hello mimi234, how are you? It's been a while. Did you take the Lagos internship? What about your grad finance plan?

T22
Hey T22,

Longest time I'm good thanks hw are you doing?? , Yess I've applied to a number of firms in Lagos and 3 got back to me grin (finally some positive news) - I'm inclined to one tho as its fits in perfectly with what I want to do. However due to commitments here (and me not planning well lipsrsealed) I'll have to wait till around June/July times so may join the NYSC batch B.

I'm currently interning now at a research firm that supplies info to private equity/hedge funds etc etc however its not exactly what I want to get into so I'm opting to do my masters this fall (fingers crossed I get in).

With regards to IB firms in London my apps are still going but I'm not holding my breath to be honest as I really want to go 9ja anyways and if I get a summer internship at these BBs then I wouldn't be able to go. cry

Either way I've left everything in the hands of God - Hope your doing well.

The thing is I'm only applying to top schools I can afford and in the US there's only 1 school lol. I am also applying to LSE in the UK for backup and I might apply to Queen's uni in Canada but not sure if i really want to go to Canada esp Kingston, Ontario where that is. Plus my GRE is crap so my chances are very very slim, just got to be prayerful

Well if yu know  Ūя̲̅ GRE is crap, either check for a school that dont require GRE, or check yu may just find a sch whose min GRE is parallel wif urs or beta still take   †ђξ  GRE again if yu r confident you can do better. And remember GRE is jus 1 criteria, Gpa, recommendation letters, personal statements are other very importabt criterias. If your Gpa is good and you av strong recommendation and SOP, you can still get in especially in a school that is not so competitive. GRE is jus bout 4hours and anythin could av gone wrong.GPA is over 4 years so it gives a betta pix of who you are. Jus do good research am sure you will b fine.
yh i'm seriously considering taking it again but i did it in Jan so got till wait until mid-March and most deadlines may have passed , I'll keep on researching *sigh* my GPA is 3.8/4 with conversion - i studied in the UK. U.S Application process is just stressful  lipsrsealed , the UK process is so much easier lolol.

My dear I am sorry to say this but you need to stop calling so much. He clearly has other plans or girls on his mind.  friend of mine had the same issue, she was always the one calling so one day she stopped. Can you believe the  never called again? That was how the relationship ended. The punk didnt even care. One thing about we ladies is that we take guys waaaaaaaaaay to seriously. They dont care like we do, all they think and work towards is Being Intimate with girls not relationships so my advice is, dont call for a week and see what happens. It is all a game so dont get ur heart too involved.
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL thats too funny
RomanceRe: Who Should Do More Of The Calling In A Relationship? by mimi234: 2:13am On Feb 10, 2012
To the OP i think you should reduce the number of times you call him.

My last bf would call me very early in the morning - around the times that I'm preparing for lectures  undecided then he would call me in between lectures then he would call me around dinner time and to top it off he would then call me around 11/12am at night and we would speak all the way to around 5am. It was tooooo much I would usually fall asleep whilst talking to him.  lipsrsealed  lipsrsealed

That in itself put a strain on the relationship because when I asked him to reduce his calls he replied by saying 'you don't enjoy talking to me no more'

Very stressful relationship that was.
