Politics › Most Dangerous Drugs Produced In Anambra, Says NDLEA by MINISTER2000(op): 9:39am On Jun 29, 2015 |
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has declared that the most dangerous drugs circulated in the country are produced in Anambra State. The state NDLEA Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, who made the declaration on Saturday at the Women’s Development Centre in Awka to mark the 2015 United Nations Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, identified one of the dangerous drugs produced in the state as methamphetamine Momodu expressed worry over the increasing production of illicit drugs, abuse and trafficking in the state and called for a concerted effort to stop the development. He disclosed that the anti-drug abuse and trafficking agency arrested at least 122 drug suspects between January and June this year. While 114 of them were men, eight were women. A total of 110.624kg of illicit drug, he said, was seized during the period under review with cannabis sativa known as marijuana topping with 107.26kg. Other seizures were cocaine, 138.2 grammes, heroine, 100.54grammes, liquid methamphetamine 2.615kg and solid methamphetamine 510 grammes. The NDLEA commander said the agency also arraigned 22 suspects during the period, out of which eight convictions were obtained while 28 fresh cases were filed. He expressed optimism that the agency would fight drug abuse and trafficking in the state, asking stakeholders to join hands in the campaign against drug abuse. Momodu warned that if the war against illicit drug use and trafficking “is not won now, the scourge will take over the society soonest.” He lauded the state Governor, Willie Obiano, for the support he had given to the agency, especially involving it in the State Security Council and the approval of a parcel of land in Awka, the state capital, for the building of the agency’s rehabilitation centre. Momodu, however, called for the inauguration of the state Drug Control Committee to help drive national drug control plans and objectives. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jesophat Akabuike, who represented the governor at the event, restated the state’s commitment to the fight against crime in the state, including drug abus |

The post of ministers is jst to compensate politicians, Perm Secs r highly conversant with their various ministries, so they should combine the functions, unlike politicians whom some dont know the functions of their ministries. Often times, apart frm jstice n health, most r not placed in their area of expertise n therefor use the first few months to learn his/her new post or employ unnecessary adviser to fat feed on our meagre resources. Ministers r atimes deceive by insiders in the ministry to cause him/her the position like former health minister prof. grange. The jst concluded administration had only one minster n others, couple with his expertise in the field of agric n dint of hard work he performed fabulously inthe ministry of agric that he was loved by everyone across diff parties. |

hakanai: Am a proud Northern Muslim and its time the Muslim folks particularly the northern ones grow up and begin to see the light. The so call Sheik should also remember that the prophet encouraged Muslims to do charity , to give rather than recieve. Because of its immence blessing. If so why should you always choose to be recieve. It is more rewarding to strive ,making a living and give out in alms to the needy. We cannot Continue to live this way, always wanting to get without going to find.Again as Muslims that should be just and show fairness, the money generated is from all faiths and not for Muslims alone. In such a case you are not being fair to others residing there that do not share our faith. The rich folks amongst the Muslim faithfuls and the shiek should start by giving out to the needy. We have enough to go round. Muslim folks can volunteer, after all is an act of ibadah and rewarding to a believer. If the governor wishes to give out of his personal wealth so be it. We as Muslims need to be up and doing. Lastly for the misguided people who still choose to call Muslims terrorist may Allah grant you enlightenment. Ramadan Kareem! my brother, u just emptied my mind. the financially buoyant muslims should pls carryout charity. |

I'm with El-rufai on this! the way our governors mingle with religious truly creates avenue for criminals to siphon our commonwealth, hardly 50% of this gets to the targeted destitutes. last week the Governor of Bauchi said that he had discovered systemic corruption in muslim pilgrimage commission amountibg to #800million per annum, he therefore ordered for its stoppage. Do U know what such amount could have done judiciously in terms of infrastructure for eight yrs of yuguda!! |

homerac7: No river in West Africa can give you such hydro capacity sir! Closest you can get is the Grand Inga dam project on the Congo in Congo DR.
You can chose to build 100,000MW nuclear power plant is anywhere in Nigeria (in you can raise the fund required), but you can't build any MW above what the river sources around you can provide for hydro power. Even having the water flow does not mean the topology will give you favourable location.
So China building 3 Gorges dam on the Yanges does not mean Nigeria, or West Africa has a "Yanges" to build her own. |
Politics › Re: Fg Picks Geregu, Itu As 2,400mw Nuclear Power Sites by MINISTER2000: 11:42am On Jun 17, 2015 |
homerac7: No sir! We can't go about building dams everywhere. Mind you, I don't in any way mean that we have "enough" dams in Nigeria or Africa yet, but there's limit to how much power we can practically depend on dams for. Yes they look beautiful and support agriculture, but they are highly environmentally destructive, particularly in their downstream communities.
Developed nations are shutting down SOME of their nuclear power plants because of age, mainly. Every plant has a lifetime. When an equipment or plant approaches its lifetime, reliability reduces and cost of operation rises. Based on several technical, risk, economic, social and environmental analysis, the equipment or plant may be given a life extension (retrofitting) or wound down (obsolescence).
Note that UK and Germany are shutting down because they are investing more in offshore wind generation power systems, while Japan is constrained because of seismic risks. So everybody makes such decisions bases on individual's peculiar risks and conditions. I'm not disposed to hydro power only, that is I hv been saying other sources. Germany is tapping frm solar n others r tapping frm wind. why can't we consider other options; must we mortgage our lives for disaster waiiting to happen. |

Top 10 Nuclear Disasters
Top 10 Nuclear Disasters
The long term effects of Nuclear disasters can
often spread over thousands of years. It is
estimated that Chernobyl wont be inhabited for
at least another 20,000 years.
Despite the threat of Nuclear disasters,
believe it or not, Nuclear Power Plants are
prominent and provide approximately 5.7% of
the world’s energy and 13% of the world’s
electricity.
With 437 Nuclear Power Plants worldwide,
there are bound to be incidents every now and
again. Small incidents occur and can be
rectified, but when there are large incidents,
the impact can often be catastrophic.
Each Nuclear disaster has been given a level on
the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES).
Click on the header of each nuclear disaster for
a detailed look at each event.
Process Industry Forum have scrawled the web

homerac7: Aaaargh! Too much ignorance here !
Read again, it is a BOOT arrangement, meaning it will be built , owned, operated by the Russians before being transferred to Nigeria after a stipulated period.
Scientists don't maintain plants, technicians do.
1. I'm not sure of average rate at the moment, but nuclear plants are the costliest to set up among the popular energy plants. They don't come cheap. Consolation is that they produce the cheapest electricity of the lot.
2. Japan is shutting down because of its environmental risk profile I.e it is in an earthquake prone region, while Nigeria has a better environmental risk profile in that respect.
Other nations shutting down have better energy mix and older nuclear reactors/plants. Ours is new and based on newer and safer technology too.
It would have been a good thing for people of Daura, but nuclear plants are sited near large fresh water source for (tertiary) cooling of reactors. So that's why it is in Kogi (rivers Niger and Benue) and Akwa Ibom (Qua Oboe river).
No he will carry on with the national policy on energy mix and nuclear power generation. It is part of our national development programmes.
No sir. It is a national policy inducted under late president UMYA
Geregu is in Kogi state in Ebira (?) land. Calm down, it is a national asset. Stop reasoning like boko haram.
Read it again and see IAEA being involved. Building nuclear plants is not like buying Tiger or Elepaq generators. There are stringent statutory requirements and operational procedures to meet.
Hydro dams have their strong points, but they are not exactly environmental friendly and are highly susceptible to hydrological cycle and plenty of community related issues both upstream and downstream. Moreover, you need energy mix to improve your general reliability.
I pray and hope (and would lobby if I'm in such prime position)that one of the next sets planned will be sited between Imo river and Anambra river courses. You don't know what you are wishing away. Pls aclm down and atop reasoning like Boko Haram.
Many things go under project capital cost sir. You can't be sure until you see the breakdown. Most times, associated infrastructure, consultancy/supervision, and logistics make such costs swell especially in low developed environment like ours.
It is natural reaction to "hate" new ideas. Please calm down and adapt to change sir. Lol
Comparing Nigeria energy policy to Germany's is like comparing a poor man that has family of 12 and earning #18k minimum wage with Osun State ( :p ) and idle house wife to a senior manager in Schlumberger with a senior bank manager wife and two kids on choices of food: one has better options than the other.
