Let's celebrate the inclusion of Nigerian Afrobeats stars Omah Lay, Rema, and Shallipopi in the newly released EA FC 25 soundtrack, marking another milestone in Afrobeats' global rise. Omah Lay's unreleased track "Moving" and Rema and Shallipopi's collaboration "Benin Boys" are among the featured songs, adding African flair to the popular football video game. Politics / Edo Election: APC Has No Agents In Majority Of Polling Units by misano(m): 6:33pm On Sep 01 |
Benin City, September 1, 2024: The All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing a severe crisis ahead of the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election as insider reports reveal that the party will not have agents in most polling units across the state. According to sources, APC has failed to meet INECโs standards for agent registration, leaving it with a massive gap in election-day representation. Data obtained from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicates that APC has issues in 3,037 out of the 4,549 polling units in Edo State. The partyโs problem stems from uploading fake names, irrelevant pictures, and even images of white men and animals to the INEC portal. These submissions were flagged as invalid by INEC, effectively disqualifying APC from having agents in these polling units. The crisis extends beyond the polling units. Of the 192 ward coalition centers in the state, APC has errors in 190, meaning the party will not have agents at almost all ward collation centers where votes are compiled before being sent to the local government collation centers. At the local government level, the situation is equally dire, with APC lacking agents in 17 of the 18 local governments. In contrast, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has minimal issues. Out of 4,549 polling units, PDP has discrepancies in only 141, compared to APCโs 3,037. For the ward coalition centers, PDP has only two problematic entries, and at the local government level, PDP has zero issues across all 18 centers. This clear advantage could significantly boost PDPโs position on election day. In a private executive meeting, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje was reportedly seen pleading with INEC to bend the rules and allow the party to correct its submissions. However, other stakeholders opposed the request, emphasizing that the INEC portal had already closed. Following the meeting, INEC issued a press release confirming that the election would proceed without altering its regulations, effectively shutting down APCโs last-minute appeals. Insiders reveal that APC is now considering legal action to force INEC to reopen the portal. Ganduje has allegedly discussed plans with the partyโs national legal advisor to seek a court order compelling INEC to revisit its decision. Despite these efforts, INEC has already started producing tags for registered agents, suggesting that the commission is unlikely to reverse its stance. Without agents at over 3,000 polling units and most coalition centers, APC is at a strategic disadvantage that could severely undermine its election oversight capabilities. The absence of agents means APC will have limited ability to monitor the voting process, challenge irregularities, or ensure vote count accuracyโleaving the party vulnerable and weakening its overall presence in the election. As the countdown to the gubernatorial election continues, the APCโs predicament stands as a stark warning about the importance of electoral preparedness and could influence the dynamics of Edo State politics for years to come. https://netalat.com/apc-faces-major-setback-with-polling-unit-agents/
