first of all, benin is not a tribe... The old benin empire was collection of different tribes.
many tribes came together to build what was called benin empire,,,but as time goes on,,,many people left the empire for disagreement and for some left in search of a greener pastures...so the benin empire fall because everyone that made it left.....but not everyone left it...the few people who does not left it are the ones now answering the benin..

Benin empire was built by some igbos, some Ijaws, some Yorubas, etc.....that was how benin came about..

Itshekiri is one of the Yorubas branch that was part of this benin empire....though, I don't know when Itshekiri left the benin empire.....but I believe, itshekiris were the last to left.
