ighoosagie: depend on d state, but not too cost, maybe less $15. Lik in Nevada u pay noting on d written text, bt pay $10 on each rewriting, pay $22 wen u pass d text ( 2 mk ur temp id) .
The road text is d same bt u don't pay d $22 wen u pass instead u pay $1.
Try 2 pass it once, else u spend a lot wen u fail it.
Note: even if u dont pass it d 10th time
don't give up, I no couple of people who gav up n end up staying yrs without getting it.
Get it now as people still av time 4 u, becos a time wud come no one wil send u again, not even 2 get a car 4 d road text.
As 4 me i got my even b4 I got my green card,
I went just with d 9ja passport n my ssn. ( remember dat stamp frm ur POE is ur temp green card , valid 4 a yr. Datz all.

ighoosagie: go to department of motor vehicle (DMV) collect a free manual guild n study all d road signs, tak some of ur staute pre test online, wen u re fully convince ,den go tak d test.
Depend on d state, some av both paper n computer test, some just computer.
In sm state u can tk d road test right away,
I don't no abt Texas

It's just common sense questions , no worries.

Driver's license is as important as having a degree.

Thanks. In New Jersey, if you have your Nigeria international driving license you will just do knowledge test(computer base test) which u have to score 40 out of 50 questions. Immediately you will be issued your license.

The process is going to the motor vehicle commission with your green card or international passport,two proof of address(which can be your ssn letter/debit card),naija driver's license,ssn with all this you will be book for your knowledge test.

From TEXAS, I Don't have my GC yet, NO DR/CR card & even Nigerian Drivers License. All i have now is my SSN card, Passport only. So how can i go about it? Thanks for the previous answer.

genlion: House, is it necessary for anyone who is travellin to america to get niger driver's lience before one travel?

It's not really necessary cus when u get to the States, you'll have to seat for 2 exams (1). An online written exam on driving & (2). Behind wheels driving test b4 u can be issued a driver licence of your State. I stand to be corrected.

Thanks for the thumb up, with your o level and experience you can work in a bank and any other places,all you need to do is to work in and tell them you want to fill employment application.You may also locate employment agency in your location,you can also go for a short course just like my friend said.

Remmy488: Since u have ssce, I would advice u attend a CNA or MEDTEC class it's helpful and more beneficial dan working in a mall or eatery. Jus try n locate a CNA or MEDTEC approaved training center near you and register 4 it, it will b useful 4u and from there u can go 2 community college in ur county. U can also try Correctional work too though d processng takes time.

Adesojiaderemi, I still haven't seen my GC but i'll do as you've just told me to do. Though, i called the USPS office & they gave me a confirmation number & told me they will call me back to tell me the position of my package, but after 48hrs if they didn't get back to me, i should call them to find out. So i'll give them a call tomorrow. I pray & hope that they've seen it some how.
Thanks anyway, just wanted to tell you how far i've gone about it. You're the best.

I think I have to call them too 'cos I changed my address and I've been in the US (Houston) for over two weeks now without receiving my GC. I think it's safer if I call them now to confirm the address they want to or have mailed it to, that way if it is the old address, I can start going to look for it before it is late.

Missannie, I had same problem when I newly came down, people here are very funny, they might have trashed it once is not theirs (1)Since you still have your green passport stamped valid for one year I will advice you go to department of Homeland security and apply for your Social security number; when the SSC arrives you can use that to apply for State ID. Once you have your state ID you can use it as your ID instead of green card incase you have to present it for job interview. (2) to replace your green card you have to download form I-90 (replacement of green card) fill it and submit it with a fee of $450 to the designated address on the form, within 30 working days you will have your biometric taking and a new card will be issued.

You may need to call the USCIS office ASAP, make sure you have your receipt number and alien number available.

I made d call today & i was told that they have mail it since 20th of May @ my old address, but when i got to the point of entry; I gave them the new address. I wonder why they still posted it to the old address. Though, they gave me a tracking number & told me to call US Post office services. But if am still unable to get it, that means i'll apply for a New one. I pray i get it oo!

I finally bought tickets for myself and family tru an agent for Air Emirates to Houston TX, via Dubai(only 1hr 45mins transit).. We are actually heading to Mississippi but Delta air fare for one person was more than wat I paid for two... And its only $150 from Houston to Jackson Mississippi... I paid N150,500 for each adult and N17000 for my 18months old daughter... I already made hotel reservations for 3 nights in houston cos I wanna experience d city and compare with where we are heading... Ibo man to d core, no dulling...na greener pastors we dey find... from your post,you're still a bit far off. so get your GC & SSN,shun crime,don't travel unless you have to. everything will be ok

your GC will be mailed to the address written in your ds112 form. it usually takes anywhere from 8-20 days depending on state. the SSN however must be applied for,so you need to locate the nearest SSA building to you.

Go to your new state of choice and change your green card delivery address at the port of entry. I did. You too can. But you must write out the new address clearly on paper and Let them know you wish to use the updated address. They will enter it for you in the system. That's it...

technically its 4 yrs and 9 months,however once you submit your N400 form you cannot travel outside the US. processing at that stage takes 3 months, hence the 5 yrs.

you can leave the US(your freedom to travel is unrestricted)but it shouldn't be more than 6 months at a stretch,longer periods outside will require a re-entry permit.needless to say,all thees are going into your record at USCIS.
