TRUE TALK grin
Amefrica: My friend, you were a young guy going for Bsc, your dad is/was your sponsor - all your docs were straight up, they needed no explanation. Now, compare this to a 30yr old going for Bsc being sponsored by his uncle. Do not you think, an SOP is essential/needed? You got your TRV without submitting an SOP ain't a BIG deal!

Don't tell me you never knew an SOP could play a very vital role in/on someone's application. It did in my second application - just so you know.

Since "Day 1" SOP has always been optional, decision is not made solely on it, submit it if you so wish - an SOP can explain any document you can't provide at the time of your application.

Don't disregard the importance of a LOE/SOP. What worked for you might not work for others.
Different strokes for different folks...

Nuff said!

I can really tell u what to pack or not to pack. Whatever would be in ur bags should be the things u need for ur stay here, the important things which u must not forget are the things I listed.
All the best
Chisky: Thanks alot. Please any other last minute tips on what to pack and what not to?

Yes u can use ur gtb card in canny but have some dollars with u tho. Just incase but ur card will work just fine.
Galaxxy: Thanks Miss bon for this info. Pls, I want to ask and to be sure if I can use my GTB Naira MasterCard to make withdrawals in Canny? I am thinking this will be a better idea than changing my Naira to US dollars bf I leave Naija.

TGIF peeps,
Congrats to all the peeps who got their trv, and wishing those who are travelling soon a very safe trip to the maple land.
Pls don't forget to have all ur docx with u till u get to the port of entry.know ur school name and address. DO NOT FORGET THE DATE OF EXPIRY ON UR STUDY PERMIT. For those who have to renew it, pls renew atleast 60 days before expiry(proof of funds will be required for study permit renewal). Try to find out anything u don't understand from ur skuls international dept. Always keep ur ears open for rules/laws.be cordial with peeps u meet cos u might need them lateron.
Pls stay away from trouble, improve ur skillset, dont just depend on only what u r thought in school. Try and observe ur environment before u jump into getting a job.also just like any other country, there are employers here who take advantage of foreigners so pls beware and don't let anyone use you. If such happens, pls complain to ur schools International dept asap.
Wishing u all a great stay in canny.
I wish u all a happy new month and a wonderful weekend.
Happy long weekend to my peeps in canny

TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 1:25pm On Jul 30, 2014
I guess it's because Canada doesn't just grant you visa based on fufiling certain factors.they are not after how many peeps can come into their country. It's about how genuine this people are. If u must come to Canada den u must be financially, academically and mentally ready.
tdayof: why do ppl get denied of canny visa a lot? ppl still get there r a lot of good news in the u.k n u.s.a thread... so what can be the cause?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 1:21pm On Jul 30, 2014
Pls stay away from using a Close frend especially if you are not a minor. Try to use someone related to you as a sponsor. It will make ur app less complicated althou the best sponsors are ur parents.
All the best
vinci500: Thanks Elcapt,

Thank man,
But am thinking of using a close family friend SOA, and using my moms landed properties along with it, but i dont want anything that could jeopardize my approval, and this seems to be my best shot

TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 3:28pm On Jul 27, 2014
U cant assume without trying, I advice u apply first before concluding dat ur chances are slim. Do not assume based on what is wrriten on the site. Several peeps got admitted into courses they have no background in. So don't limit urself. Pgd is the easy way to go instead of redoing another bachelors. It saves u from visa problems and it also adds to ur previous degree. It can also help u advance for masters so pls do wat works for ur career best.
slimmsyyetty: @misbon: as regard 2our last discussion concerning d PGD in GIS in Canada, I realised I didnt do any GIS related course(s) during my undergrad program. Don't Ɣ☺ΰ tink my chances of being admitted will be slim
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 2:45pm On Jul 27, 2014
I guess ur uncle knows what's best for you. I would have adviced u differently but I guess u have ur uncle to guide you. I wish ya the best
slimmsyyetty: I say a big -̶̶•-̶̶•̸Ϟ•̸Thank You•̸Ϟ•̸-̶̶•-̶ 2those dat answered my initial questn.

Pls house, d issue iƧ̷̜̩̌̋ dis.....

I applied 4MUN graduate program (geophysics precisely) but I wasn't given admission. I just tried d undergraduate program aπϑ I was admitted. Am a 1st degree holder since 2009 in applied Physics(2.2). Some1 now suggested I shldnt go 4dat undgergrad program, rather, I shld do a year PGD in applied geophysics @ FUTA b4 applying 4anoda Msc program in Canada cos it could boost my chances of being admitted. No schools in Canada offers PGD in Geophysics. An uncle residing in Canada now got mad @me when he heard of my new plans of doing PGD @ FUTA firstly b4 applying 4anoda Msc program. He told me d undergrad prog iƧ̷̜̩̌̋ better because of d duratn which will be easier 4me 2settle down compared 2yrs M.sc. S̶̲̥̅Ơ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡ he OREDRED me to apply 4my TRV wit d undergrad admission. Honestly, am seriously confused was y I decided 2come here 4ur opinions. -̶̶•-̶̶•̸Ϟ•̸Thank You•̸Ϟ•̸-̶̶•-̶
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 2:35pm On Jul 27, 2014
Dats true..peeps need to relax and do what is right for their career not to underestimate colleges just because they are not aware of it's advantages
Gudluck to everyone
Jijola: Diploma too high sef. People with proficiency certificates in pipeline drilling, safety technology and similar fields are many in the oil industry. Carry your MSC around...it doesn't give any added advantage as far as you don't have the practical knowledge.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 2:08pm On Jul 27, 2014
Yes u can work offcampus for 20hrs/week while studying full time. But pls take ur study work load into account. A coop program is always gud cos u need as much Canadian experience as u can get so pls try checking out others dat offer it but If u can only stick to.the one without coop then I guess u will gain ur experience working offcampus.
Pls note dat money earned from working 20hrs a week cannot pay ur tuition. Some may not even pay all ur bills till u work extensively or lucky to get a high paying job. So plan ur life in canny out first before embarking on this
All the best
Ornaments: Hi, Everyone, I need an option in Canada that would allow me work and study so I could earn a little and support myself. I wouldn't want to get there and keep calling home for pocket money hence my reasons for wanting to go for Msc Coop option. But it seems majority of the schools affordable/ Cheap offering January admission do not have Coop option. Now my question is how else can I earn money to support myself through the other routes without having to desperately look for supervisors for funding? Or without necessarily becoming a Research assistant? Can I get work off campus and still study full time or part time without a supervisor. Please help a confused sister here. Thanks

True talk..diploma sure have gotten many Nigerians jobs in the oil sector/top companies here so thers nothing to worry. It's all about how skilled u r not the type of.certificate u hold. This definitely ain't naija.welcome to canny bro grin
dammycrane000: You seem so sure about this, you are not in canada yet... You have not applied for a job yet, you have not attended an interview yet.
But you just know a diploma will not get you a job with an oil exploration team.
Ok
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 1:26pm On Jul 27, 2014
LOL@ msc is better dan pgd. LMAO@ peeps go for pgd cos of low requirements and grades...hahahha..funny peeps..I advise that no one should base their conclusion on word of mouth. not even school guarantees ur success so Ur success in life is in ur own hands not whichever certificate u acquire. Gudluck yall
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 5:01am On Jul 25, 2014
There is no specific duration that can guarantee u visa.all u need to do is package ur documents well and be prayerful and positive.the only effect duration has is when u get to canny, the post graduate work permit will be issued according to the duration you studied for so if you need a higher duration for the work permit then go for a two year course. Some peeps only studied for one year and got a great job after skul. So everything depends on ur own choice but as for getting ur visa, the duration of study has nothing to do with it. Infact many peeps came here with one year visas
All thé best
vanrichie4u: Please house which Pgd course duration can guarantee an applicant visa the most 1year or 2years?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 4:55am On Jul 25, 2014
It depends on the requirements of ur intended course.u can check out some schools, althou they might list requirements dat is higher dan what u have but if u apply, u may get accepted. Avoid applying late, start early so you can have many options. And don't limit urself to just one course.
All thé best
ManTiger: Can i be considered for pgd admission? I had a 3rd class wink.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 4:48am On Jul 25, 2014
Welcome,
Ur sponsors bank statement is very important and source of income is very essential, this should be included. The most important here is you, ur current employment situation or job prospects and convincing the visa officer that you are a genuine student. If you read some pages, u will get the outline for the statement of purpose. Also check out www.cic.gc.ca for more details.
Don't hesitate to ask any specific questions u have, peeps will help.
All thé best

I may not be able to check ur sop fast due to a tight schedule, but am sure peeps in the house will guide u. Pls renew ur passport, u need atleast a year validity on it. All the best
LyfeJennings: God will carry one gallon of butter and nack your bread. I'm most grateful. I will write another SOP & share with U
Please,my passport is going to expire next year February, U think its gonna be fine if I apply again with it?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by missbon(f): 4:58am On Jul 24, 2014
am sorry about the refusal..i advise you use the guidelines below to readjust ur sop and also the sop only tackles the purpose of visit and length of stay..the other reasons for refusal needs to be fixed too
the last two reasons need to be checked carefully, these are things u should think about
what job are you returning to? if you work for ur father, then are you listed in any of the company documents as a director etc? if yes then this document should be included
also is the course you are coming for in canny correlated with the job you are returning to...submit your own personal bank statement since you are employed...in the sop u must show correlation, i suggest you make your application less complicated, only submit relevant documents...
stay totally clear of storytelling in ur sop,let it be simple and straightforward..do not use someone else's sop to judge urs as all situations are different. dont forget to send it to few peeps to help u check it..all the best
1. introduction of yourself and course of study in Canada
2. briefly explain your previous education and its relevance to your intended course of study
3. briefly explain any gaps from your last education to date or relevant work experiences acquired
4. briefly explain the impact of your course on your future career and your home country(e.g NIGERIA)
5. emphasis on leaving Canada after ur studies and what you intend to do on return(reasons should correlate with study leave and employment letter, if u submitted any)
the SOP should not be more than two pages and less storytelling, go straight to the point and avoid reminding the VO constantly that you are not going to abscond
LyfeJennings: Travel History
Length of proposed stay in Canada
Purpose of visit
Your current employment situation
Your personal assets and financial status

Those are the reasons
