Nairaland GeneralHow To Make Nairaland's Homepage by missEmjay(op):
Being on the homepage is most writer's wish. But that wish will become a reality after reading this. Here are 4 tips that will catapult your topics to the homepage

4) CHOOSE A KICKASS TITLE: The first thing people see in any write-up is the Title. A kickass Title entices people to read a topic even if the topic doesn't turn out to be interesting. An attractive Title can trigger readers' response as your title is a snapshot of what to expect in your thread. For example sething like '5 lies your teacher told you' is more catchy than 'Teachers can lie'. You feel me?

3) KEEP IT SHORT: I'll confess to you, once a topic is too long, I don't bother reading it at all, I just leave the thread and I'm sure a lot of people share the same views with me. Long topics tenda to look more like a sermon which screams BORING! Your aim is to get comments and not getting people running out of your thread.

2)AIM FOR A LARGE AUDIENCE: Here is the formula: LA+MC=HP where LA stands for large audience, MC for Many comments and HP is for HomePage. It will be easier for a topic about the president to hit frontpage(cos it appeals to a very large audience) than a topic like 'How to make a small room feel bigger'(cos it inly concerns small apartment owners)

1) GET POPULAR: I'll watch any Dicaprio's movie any day, any time barring what haters say because I know he's a great actor. Its also the same thing with writers. When you become popular in a field, its only natural for people to read your topic and drop a comment or two. And if the mods know you, what else is left? Your thread is already on its way to the homepage.
With these few points of mine, I hope I've been able to convince and not confuse you that you can write a topic that will make homepage. Peace.

Another important feature a small space must have is:
¤ STORAGE: shelves, niches, cupboards etc are very necessary in a small space. Mount up a shelf up to the ceiling to free up floor space. Shelves can also be a decorative element. And always try to make storage hidden if you don't want your room to look like a store

Nairaland GeneralRe: How To Make A Small Room Feel Bigger by missEmjay(op): 1:26pm On Aug 25, 2014
Being organised and having little stuffs are very paramount When staying in a small room. Small spaces can be multi functional (as seen in pic 1, which is a combination of a living room and a little office space)

EducationRe: What Time Of Day Is 12AM. Is It Midnight Or Midday ? by missEmjay(f): 10:51pm On Aug 24, 2014
if you tilt your head to the left and view the time, then 12am mean midnight. If you tilt your head to the right, then its midday. 'whatever 12am stands for, is in the eye of the beholder'

Personally, I love it anyway. Even raw. Lol. I hearby open and declare this as the official thread for mushroom lovers. Share your thoughts on the delicious fungus

polymathic: I've been having problem with this furniture part, thanks so much for this... Been thinkin on gettin sometin so simple too
Very good thought sir. Something with clean lines and low arms goes well in a small room. Fabric of the furniture is important too. Try not to go for something too bold or heavy cos it will be too overwhelming in the space.

unpredictedone: pls, what colour of paint do u recommend?
As I said light colour palette is the best option. Colours like White, light blue and a light shade of Green or grey. But of course, you don't wanna paint your four walls blue, else, your room won't look any different from a nursery room or a bathroom.

•CHOOSE SIMPLE FURNITURE
Furniture take up the most space in a room. Drop that large leather sofa and go for something more simple and light that will 'disappear' into the overall design.

•USE PATTERN
certain patterns can create the illusion of depth and space. Vertical stripes on a wall makes the walls look higher while horizontal stripes can make a room appear wider.
Nairaland GeneralHow To Make A Small Room Feel Bigger by missEmjay(op): 3:29pm On Aug 24, 2014
Most of the times, small apartment owners always have to deal with the number one problem- space. But here are some tips on how to make a small room feel bigger and more appealing:

•CHOOSE A LIGHT COLOUR PALETTE
One of the downsides of staying in a small room is that they tend to be dark and kinda stuffy but choosing a light colour palette makes the room feel bigger, brighter unlike dark colours that absorbs light.

•ADD MORE FUNCTION TO YOUR FURNITURE
Spaces and clutter go hand in hand like bread and butter. To tackle cluster, make sure items have more than one purpose. For example, an ottoman that has storage space inside of it can be used as a table, extra seating and storage for books, remotes etc. Find at least twp uses for every item

•CREATE VISUAL INTEREST
Small rooms often lack defining architectural feautures. Try painting an accent wall or painting inside of shelving units to provide the illusion of depth and create a focal point.

•USE A LOT OF LIGHTING
Don't just rely on that sole bulb in your ceiling as your only source of light. Let in natural light by opening up your window or using light draperies. Light does wonders for small spaces, making them feel brighter and airy.
