PoliticsRe: How Come Most Nigerian Politicians Aren't Good Public Speakers? by Missy85(f): 10:00am On Jan 14, 2011
It is those basics they teach you in junior secondary school. Once you mess that foundation up, it's usually difficult to recover.

Most highly educated nigerians, incl. Gej, don't know when to use will or would; has or had etc.

For every 3 sentences by Gej, at least 2 are usually grammatically flawed. I guess the question is, does it matter ?

Being a good public speaker is of course a different kettle of fish.
PoliticsRe: The Official People's Democratic Party Presidential Primaries Thread by Missy85(f): 12:58am On Jan 14, 2011
great result for Gej in Sokoto. He doesnt need to win in those core 8 or 9 northern states.

He just needs to stay on atiku's coat tail, by grabbing 30 - 40% in those states
PoliticsRe: The Official People's Democratic Party Presidential Primaries Thread by Missy85(f): 12:40am On Jan 14, 2011
Sokoto governor roots for atiku, but his deputy, Shagari, an Obj protege is pro Gej.

Lets c how this turns out.
PoliticsRe: The Official People's Democratic Party Presidential Primaries Thread by Missy85(f): 12:27am On Jan 14, 2011
a very pro-Gej governor in bauchi was unable to deliver a decisive victory for him. Not looking good for other core nothern states.

Squeaky-bum time for Gej
PoliticsRe: The Official People's Democratic Party Presidential Primaries Thread by Missy85(f): 12:00am On Jan 14, 2011
this is not over yet. Places like sokoto, kano, bornu, with a large number of delegates might be one sided in atiku,s favour

Jonathan shld win nonetheless.
PoliticsRe: Coalition of 45 NGOs Call For The Prosecution of ACN Leader, Bola Tinubu by Missy85(f): 7:52pm On Jan 13, 2011
Also, pls dont equate the term NGO in the nigerian context with Human Rights Watch, Oxfarm, Amnesty International etc.

In nigeria, the vast majority of so-called NGO's are profit oriented private businesses, who go with the highest bidder.

Many unemployed graduates scramble for money to register an NGO, with the sole aim of swindling donors.

The 45 'NGOs' are just a bunch who have probably collected money from PDP.

You say this matter has been goin for long, are you listening at all? It was fully investigated by the leading  anti corruption agency in 2007, and they saw no reason to pursue it further.

Why is another agency suddenly interested in reopening the matter 3 months to an election WITHOUT NEW FACTS. DONT YOU SEE WHY SOME ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS KIND OF DOG-HOUSE JUSTICE?

Sorry 4 caps,,,nightmare typing long on my phone
.
PoliticsRe: Coalition of 45 NGOs Call For The Prosecution of ACN Leader, Bola Tinubu by Missy85(f): 7:20pm On Jan 13, 2011
i dont support any form of selective justice, and the institutionalised type practised in nigeria should concern anyone remotely interested in fostering democracy.

The judicial landscape is replete with many examples. Thats not good for nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Coalition of 45 NGOs Call For The Prosecution of ACN Leader, Bola Tinubu by Missy85(f): 7:02pm On Jan 13, 2011
they can start prosecution, but let's see where it gets to
PoliticsRe: Coalition of 45 NGOs Call For The Prosecution of ACN Leader, Bola Tinubu by Missy85(f): 6:59pm On Jan 13, 2011
it may well be an offence to hold a foreign acct, even if there's just £1 balance in it, but all fair minded people would say that in the scheme of things, pursuing this guy for this reason alone smarks of political intimidation.

Restarting a closed investigation is all political
PoliticsRe: Coalition of 45 NGOs Call For The Prosecution of ACN Leader, Bola Tinubu by Missy85(f): 6:54pm On Jan 13, 2011
be4 people start getting up in arms, they should consider the underlying allegation.

The allegation is that this guy maintained foreign accounts against the requirements of the code of conduct.

To my knowledge, there's no suggestion there is stolen money in these accts, hence the reason efcc decided not to pursue further investigations in 2007
PoliticsRe: STF Arrests Five Soldiers Over Monday Attack In Jos - Soilders behind Massacres by Missy85(f): 6:40pm On Jan 13, 2011
interest times, even the military cant be relied on to be impartial.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria And Sudan Are The Same by Missy85(f): 6:28pm On Jan 13, 2011
some similarities but the facts arent the same.

Southern Sudan is one of the poorest places on earth, way behind northern sudan.

you cant say that of nigeria where tthe south is more developed.

Also some will contend that the alleged political domination by the north is not as great as it probably was.
PoliticsRe: Explosion After Labour Primaries In Bayelsa by Missy85(f): 6:12pm On Jan 13, 2011
the words 'bayelsa' and 'explosion' increasingly appear together these days.

certainly not a tourist destination

PoliticsRe: 26 Political Parties Align With Apga In Lagos by Missy85(f): 3:24pm On Jan 13, 2011
bukola,

the way to address a large influx of people into your region is to migrate enmass into their region, just so one of you can become a governor there?

not very clever is it

People are free to migrate to lagos, why are you panicking about it.
PoliticsRe: Easteners Suffer While Nigeria Is Led By A Hausa-fulani-yoruba Oligarchy.(read!) by Missy85(f): 10:12pm On Jan 12, 2011
Redsun, good comment regarding poor leadership in the country.

I must say, I've been taken aback by the depth of tortuous feeling that has come accross from some Igbo contributors in the past few days - Akhenaten, Odumchi etc

For grown men to feel this way, the level of dissatisfaction amongst people must be plunging dangerously new depths, and I wish we could all come together, perhaps through a Sovereign Conference or whatever else and decide a new way forward, with all the options being put on the table.

Everyone is frustrated! Could we have some kind of mass counselling session for 150 million pple grin
PoliticsRe: Pdp Chairman Nwodo Removed by Missy85(f): 9:34pm On Jan 12, 2011
this guy & the enugu state governor have been having a running tiff.

now we have a judgement on the eve of primaries,,, from wherehuh a high court in enugu

also, why would a judge opt for suspending the guy when the subtantive case has not even been heard,,,in a matter as high profile as this.

i see the hands of enugu state governor all over this.

i dont support any party, but this decision raises a suspicion.
PoliticsRe: Easteners Suffer While Nigeria Is Led By A Hausa-fulani-yoruba Oligarchy.(read!) by Missy85(f): 8:56pm On Jan 12, 2011
im aware there are Igbos in the ND.

thanks Odumchi.
PoliticsRe: Easteners Suffer While Nigeria Is Led By A Hausa-fulani-yoruba Oligarchy.(read!) by Missy85(f): 8:53pm On Jan 12, 2011
dont let your anger overshadow some legitimate points you have made.

i've never been to your part of nigeria but i was moved by some of the points about lack of infrastructure & abject poverty as you put it. I sympatise.

But comments such as - yorubas have all they need to succeed but they cant,  is inflammatory. You mean yorubas are failures? thats not a credible statement.

Everywhere you look in nigeria, there's poverty, so these probs are not peculiar to your parts.
PoliticsRe: Easteners Suffer While Nigeria Is Led By A Hausa-fulani-yoruba Oligarchy.(read!) by Missy85(f): 8:35pm On Jan 12, 2011
i thought about 70% of the oil belongs in the niger delta & offshore, rather than Igboland? I mean the concept of a 'east' has changed now. i doubt all the groups in old east have the same agenda now. just a thought.

thats not to disagree with you that most of the money generated ends up with a few people who least deserve it.

I agree the current situation is unsustainable.
PoliticsRe: Easteners Suffer While Nigeria Is Led By A Hausa-fulani-yoruba Oligarchy.(read!) by Missy85(f): 8:12pm On Jan 12, 2011
take it easy & dont get so frustrated,

Everywhere you look, a lot of Igbos are getting on with life and doing well. If there was state prejudice before, I doubt whatever is left of it, if any, is as bad as you make it.

Yes the govt (incl state govts) needs to spend a lot more on infrastructure in the southeast, but to suggest that people in other regions have it great is overstretching your point.
PoliticsRe: Pdp Chairman Nwodo Removed by Missy85(f): 3:50pm On Jan 12, 2011
his deputy should step in as acting chairman, pending the outcome of any appeal.

using the lodging of an appeal to stay execution and keep himself in office, whilst technically right, is morally wrong.

Guess our  politicians dont do morals
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 7:36pm On Jan 11, 2011
regarding acn and a northern candidate, am surprised by your comment, and not persuaded that if GEJ is available come Wednesday evening, acn will eschew the prospect of a Gej/Ribadu connection. Surely they will consider it?
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 7:31pm On Jan 11, 2011
Gbawe, you are prob right.

All i'm saying is the political space is too dirty & underhand to discount anything.

I dont support anyone, so am canvassing no one's interest.

Thanks for shedding light. I thought atiku had a lot of following in the north.
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 7:24pm On Jan 11, 2011
lets stop going round in circles.

acn's most high profile aspirant is Ribadu, but i think most agree he's unlike to win a presidential election in April.

H/e, if acn can marry his popularity with the youths with the resources that a sitting president brings to the table, the outlook for acn come april will be better right?

Thats what i meant.

I hear they are also talking to the Cpc, which means acn is prob not persuaded they can win with Ribadu alone.
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 7:10pm On Jan 11, 2011
ok, if you say he doesnt have much following, & he would be a liability to thee acn, then that's a diff thing, & it wld be left for the acn to make that judgement.

I guess I just dont buy this, never! god forbid! thing, esp when it comes to nigerian politics
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 7:05pm On Jan 11, 2011
Gej/Ribadu is not a bad combo FOR THE ACN given what they appear to have presently.

I wasnt expressing a personal preference.
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 6:59pm On Jan 11, 2011
Gbawe, if Atiku will bring millions of supporters with him to Acn, and accept he cant be a presidential candidate, why would Tinubu tell him to sod off?

politics in nigeria is about the end, not whats in-between
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 6:54pm On Jan 11, 2011
there are many in acn with as dodgy a profile as Atiku, so why cant the latter join as an ordinary member?

My second point is mr Akande's comment cld also be a nod to Gej. The latter cant lose pdp primaries? I dont know, but never say never. Think Gej/the Efcc mallam. Not a bad combo.
PoliticsRe: Atiku To Go Back To Acn? by Missy85(f): 6:44pm On Jan 11, 2011
2 things;

accepting Atiku back into ACN is not the same as accepting him back as their presidential candidate. If Atiku loses in the Pdp prim, he would remain desperate to keep GEJ out of Aso Rock. This cld mean taking his support to Acn, but not necessarily with him as a presidential candidate
PoliticsRe: Don't The Igbos Deserve A Round Of Applause? by Missy85(f): 12:31pm On Jan 11, 2011
excanny, some of my comments address statements I've read in other threads. there's no suggestion than anyone on this thread said igbos were superior for instance.

But you guys need to listen to what some of your country people are saying.

If there's some views out there that igbo's chestbeating is a little irritating, is it not worth listening?
PoliticsRe: Don't The Igbos Deserve A Round Of Applause? by Missy85(f): 12:26pm On Jan 11, 2011
why would anyone choose a life of constant warring, both real and imagined.

you mean Igbos feel denigrated in nigeria? in what way?? Most people i know admire the Igbos, maybe grudgingly, but why should Igbos feel so put-down upon by the rest?

If anything, the most denigrated lot are probably the hausas.
