House of Silk was launched in late 2008 as a retailer of silk fabric and evolved into a fashion label using silk as the palette for their glam pieces. The label has evolved and now includes three lines namely Silk Glam,Native Retro and Saree Affair.

For Summer 2010, Jennifer Adighije of the House of Silk unveils the Sacred Collection aimed at giving summer a different taste of sunshine with Ethnic and Arab inspired pieces.

This collection is her attempt to add some funk to conventional African fabrics and Arab style. She draws inspiration from significant locations in the striking capital of United Arab Emirates; Abu Dhabi and also from the island flavour of Tenerife. The designs are made more captivating as she infuses traditional African prints to create garments reflective of the richness of both cultures.

We see illuminating drapes, floor length dresses that ignite fluidity in their flow, blacks, a touch of gold, which depict the customary shades of garments in the Arab regions.

I like that she displays diversity with a careful mix of different yet complementary fabrics. The lustrous one-shoulder maxi dress is definitely going in my wish list; It’s elegant, stylish and great for any function!

It was an evening to behold at the Premiere of ‘Bursting Out‘ and ‘Holding Hope‘ as the stars came out to support these two eagerly anticipated blockbusters. The crowd at the event was unbelievable as a seemingly endless stream of celebrities including Majid Michel, Omoni Oboli, Stephanie Okereke, Nadia Buari, Genevieve Nnaji and many others arrived to support their colleagues, Emem Isong, Uche Jombo and Desmond Elliot.

Local and International TV crews including Reuters and Studio 53 Extra were on hand to cover the event! After doing the rounds on the red carpet, guests were then ushered upstairs to watch the movies. The first hall quickly filled up and another hall had to be commandeered to accommodate the teaming crowd! Even that was not enough as many guests had to sit make due with sitting in the aisle and standing at the back of the hall! Such was the thirst and desire to see yet another block buster movie from the creative wizardry of Emem Isong in conjunction with brilliant artistic interpretation by Desmond Elliot and the lethal marketing skills of Uche Jombo! But it was was all worth it! As the theme music began and the opening credits rolled, a hush fell over the restive audience as guests began to watch the two movies. From the shouts, screams and tears in the hall they knew that they had witnessed something great and as they made away with their goodie bags, many expressed their intent to buy the movies when they are released on VCD/DVD.

You dont know who Rukky Sanda is? Well alot of people do not actually. First, we havent seen her in any major movie but yet she is in front page of many tabloids, apparently the lady is a sucker for limelight.

2Face Idibia, Nigeria's success story in the music industry, speaks with TADE MAKINDE on controversies concerning his marital life, music, and other issues

LOOKING back to that day you decided to sing, did you dream of getting this big in the industry?

Well, I hoped and prayed that I made it before I even started at all and God answered my prayers. But there is something I want my fans to know, I just got a quarter of what I prayed to God for. Seriously, I still have some aspirations, which I am yet to achieve.

When exactly did you decide it would be music and why?

1997. I decided to go into music because it was distracting my attention from any other thing I laid my hands upon.

What are the obstacles that you faced back then?

There was no money to go to the studio to record, even when there were songs already written. Despite all our efforts to be known then, we were not famous. Besides, our songs were not promoted as we wanted.

And right now, do you still face any obstacle?

Yeah. When I was not popular, I yearned for it so much but now, I can not do the things that I like to do. In fact, it pains me that I can not live my life the way I want to. Other people are those who tell me how to do things, they call it name Management.

Do you think its the same problem for today’s musicians?

Yeah, except for those who were born with silver spoons though. How to get clothes, do rehearsals, get money to record were some of the problems we faced as poor up starters. Your songs are still there as obstacles for them to face.

With your success, who would you say has put innovation into his music?

Every musician in this country has put one thing or the other into music. If I start counting, we won’t finish naming names till daybreak.

Apart from your music, who else do you listen to among Nigerian and foreign musicians?

I feel Sunny Ade, Fela, Chris Okotie, Onyeka Onwenu, Majek Fashek, Victor Uwaifo, Asa, Jay Z, etc. like mad.

Do you read papers, Nigerian papers especially?

Yeah, I read Nigerian paper a lot, and foreign ones whenever I travel abroad.

Which publication has been wrong about you?

A lot of them. For example, when the rumour of 10 children from 12 ladies was published, I felt bad, but later I asked people how that could be possible. 10 children from 12 ladies? (laughs).

How did you take the publication?

It is sad that some press guys still write without confirming their stories in this modern age.
It was once said you paid to perform in a show in Port Harcourt when you started out. Do you think

its the same with upcoming musicians abroad?

I’ve never paid to perform in any show but I’ve begged some organisers to put my name on jingles. I have also been bounced at events several times when I was struggling to make it in the industry.

How did it feel winning your first award, foreign and Nigerian?

I felt on top of the world.

Can you mention some of these awards?

They are numerous to mention, I can’t even remember some until I see them.

When news about your marriage is reported, what pisses you most in the reports?

Honestly, it doesn’t piss me off because nobody asked me me to become a musician. It happens to every popular person. But questions like; “you should get married now” gets me mad because whether I get married or I don’t, wetin concern anybody now?

Who set your duet with Mary J. Blige up for you?

My friend’s wife in New York, Magaret Byrne.

What would you remember about Blige?

She’s an energetic performer. She’s also very down to earth. She no dey form o.

How much were you paid for African Queen that was used as sound track in the American film titled “Fat Girlz”?

It was a mechanical royalty, it doesn’t come once. How do I explain it? All I know is that till I die, I will collect royalty on it. Moreso, anytime it comes, I’ll be paid in dollars.

Will you still work with Kennis now that you are back with NowMusic?

If there is any deal that will be good enough for me, I can still work with them. But it has to come through my managers.

What happens to Hypertech now?

It is my own company. It still exists and will be forever.

Do you still plan to go back to school?

Yeah, I will still go back to school now or later, but time will eventually tell.

What exactly went wrong with R. Kelly’s duet?

I don’t really have any comment on that, I have forgotten that.

Did you meet Kelly at all?

Media interest gave “grounds for concern” about Ms Campbell’s security

Judges at The Hague have barred photographers from taking pictures of supermodel Naomi Campbell when she gives evidence at the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor.

Ms Campbell, 40, is due to testify at the war crimes trial on Thursday.

The prosecution will ask her about allegations Mr Taylor gave her a rough “blood diamond” from Sierra Leone after a celebrity dinner in 1997.

She will also be allowed extra help from her lawyer during her testimony.

Her lawyers would be allowed to intervene in order to prevent her answering a question that might lead to her incriminating herself, the court ruled.
‘Concern’

Photographers will be prevented from taking pictures as she enters and exits the court during her testimony.

A television feed of the court’s proceedings would be broadcast as usual, it was reported.

Measures to protect witnesses’ identities are usually granted at war crimes tribunals if there is a risk the witness, or their families, could be put in danger by their testimony.

In its ruling, the court said the intense media interest in the case gave “legitimate grounds for concern” for Ms Campbell’s security.

Mr Taylor is charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity over his role in the 10-year civil war in Sierra Leone.

The prosecution says he gave arms to the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebels in return for diamonds from rebel-controlled mines.

War crimes judges on Tuesday ordered special security measures for fashion model Naomi Campbell when she testifies at the trial of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, barring photographers from catching her entering or leaving the courtroom.

The judges say Campbell’s fears for her safety and privacy are legitimate because of her high profile and the intense media interest in her appearance.

In its ruling, the Special Court for Sierra Leone instructed authorities to ensure that no one photograph, video tape or even sketch Campbell in or around the courtroom.

Her testimony, however, will be recorded as usual by courtroom cameras.

She is due to appear Thursday, but judges have not yet decided on a motion submitted last week by Taylor’s lawyers to delay her appearance.

Measures to protect witnesses in war crimes cases are routine, especially when disclosure of their identity could subsequently endanger them or their families. Such witnesses testify under pseudonyms and with their images blurred in recordings of their testimony. But blocking the media from photographing a known witness is highly unusual.

The court did not go as far as Campbell had wanted. She had asked the judges for a gag order on all information “gleaned about her stay at the court” apart from her public testimony.

Campbell was summoned to testify about whether she received diamonds from Taylor after a celebrity-studded dinner in South Africa in 1997. Taylor is accused of trading in “blood diamonds” in exchange for helping rebel factions during the 11-year civil war in Sierra Leone. He has denied possessing such conflict diamonds.

The court granted Campbell’s request to have a lawyer present, but restricted the attorney’s intervention to protecting her from possible self-incrimination on the stand.
