Pay television service provider, MultiChoice Nigeria, would commence the implementation of the new Value Added Tax, VAT, rate, which may lead to a hike in the prices of its DStv and GOtv packages, Vanguard has learned.

The new VAT regime, which came into effect on February 1, raised the rate of VAT from five per cent to 7.5 per cent on goods and services.

Forty-six staff of Gotel Communications, a media outfit owned by Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, have been sacked by the organisation.

Gotel Communication is a television and radio broadcast conglomerate transmitting from Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

Kano State Government has said the recent deaths in the state were caused by “complications arising from hypertension, diabetes, meningitis and acute malaria”.

As confirmed cases of coronavirus continue to surge in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said government might commence enforcement of wearing of face mask in public places from Monday.

Ahead of the imminent review of the lockdown imposed on the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Ogun states by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), the Nigerian Medical Association has advised the Federal Government to again extend the lockdown, which ends on Monday (tomorrow).

The Abia State Government has countered a claim made by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, over the recent killing of a petrol attendant in the state.

The National Judicial Council on Friday recommended two High Court judges, Justice Francis Abosi, who is the Acting President, Imo State Customary Court of Appeal; and Justice Aliyu Liman of Bauchi State High Court, for compulsory retirement for various offences.

Calabar — Governor Ben Ayade, of Cross River, has asked civil servants from grade level 10 to return to work from Tuesday.

This is despite WHO’s recommendation on lockdown and social distancing as measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The governor, a professor of science, gave the directive three days after he said no need for social distancing if people wear masks. The United States is already in a recession and will remain that way for the first half of the year, according to a survey of 45 economists.
