naturalwaves:You seem to be missing the point. In the same space where MIT operates, some institutions offer online degree programs, while others do not. No one is claiming that on-site education is inherently better. In fact, we have also offered online programs. However, as an organization with strong core values, a clear mission, and a defined educational philosophy, our decisions are guided by these principles in everything we do. If you review our alumni list above, you will notice that their success is not accidental-there is a clear pattern. So, for this cohort, we would be happy to welcome those that can be available on weekends. We also offer both weekend and weekday programs to accommodate different needs. Our students come from within Lagos State, from other parts of Nigeria, and even from outside the country. It is important to respect how others choose to operate, even when their methods differ from yours, as long as they are achieving their goals. . Thank you. |
naturalwaves:No,MIT does not offer full, traditional degree programs (like Bachelor's or Master's) entirely online, requiring on-campus presence for degrees The above is the response to the question " if Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers its technology degree courses online". While some Universities do, does this mean MIT is senseless or rigid for not offering its tech degree programs online? Every institution has its own approach to achieving its goals. These approaches are shaped by their values, mission, and educational philosophy. It is important to respect how others choose to operate, even when their methods differ from yours. Respect for differing perspectives and practices is essential for maintaining a balanced and sane society. |

“I've been able to land both a paid gig and a full-time position as a Back-end Developer” – Rukayat Rukayat Sodiq from our last cohort ( Cohort 31) , who was interviewed by Titilayo Olamide, a Journalist with Nigerianupdates, for an article titled "Coding Her Way Out: How Moat Academy is Empowering Nigerian Girls to Build Futures Through Tech" that was published on their site on June 20, 2025. Rukayat revealed that her journey into technology has been anything but easy, from resigning her job to borrowing a laptop and going weeks without electricity. However, she persevered with the support of Moat Academy. "I've stopped making excuses. I stayed focused, borrowed what I could, and surrounded myself with inspiration and a purpose. That mindset kept me going." - Rukayat We caught up with Rukayat to learn more about her journey -from data entry to software development and the critical role Moat Academy played in shaping her future. We are happy to share that Rukayat's story stands out not only for its inspiration, but also for its clarity of purpose. She is now a back-end developer at Meezak Technologies; her journey into technology began with a courageous decision to leave the familiar and pursue something bigger. Below is an excerpt from her interview: Can we meet you? I’m Sodiq Rukayat Gbemishola, but most people call me Rayya. I’m passionate about technology, problem-solving, and continuous learning. What were you doing before coming to Moat Academy? Before joining Moat Academy, I worked as a Data Entry Executive at an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Piping) company. While the job helped me develop attention to detail, I wanted a more challenging and creative career that’s what led me to software development. What is the name of your current company and role? I currently work at Meezak Technologies as a Backend Developer . What exactly do you want to achieve with the software development skills? I’m working toward becoming a highly skilled Software Engineer and Tech Advocate, focused on creating solutions that make technology more accessible, efficient, and enjoyable to use. Why did you choose Moat Academy for Developers? I discovered Moat Academy on Nairaland, did my research, and was really impressed by the success stories of past alumni. Their growth and achievements convinced me that Moat Academy was the right place to build a solid foundation in software development. How have things changed for you since gaining software development skills? Everything has changed for the better. I now have a clear career path, the confidence to take on technical challenges, and the ability to build functional web applications. Learning software development has completely transformed how I think and solve problems. What was your biggest fear before coming to Moat Academy, and what do you feel about it now? My biggest fear was whether I’d be able to get another job , because I had to quit my previous one to attend Moat Academy full-time. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made that step of faith opened doors to opportunities I never imagined. What have you been able to achieve with the training? By God’s grace, I’ve been able to land both a paid gig and a full-time position as a Back-end Developer. I’ve also built real-world projects that strengthened my portfolio and confidence as a developer. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In the next five years, I aim to become a recognized AI-driven Software Engineer and Tech Advocate, building intelligent, user-centered solutions that shape how people interact with technology. Things have changed significantly.I’m now able to build real projects, take on client work, and work confidently as a software developer. It has given me career direction and great opportunities. What was your biggest fear before coming to Moat Academy, and what do you feel about it now? My biggest fear before coming to Moat Academy was not being able to build a career. I didn’t see a clear path with Environmental Science, and I was worried about my future. However, just two months after completing the program, I secured a job and also worked on two paid projects. Now, I feel confident, motivated, and proud of how far I’ve come. How will you describe your experience at Moat Academy? My time at Moat Academy was one of the best experiences of my life. Those three months were more impactful than my five years at university. The learning was intense, inspiring, and full of growth. I never wanted to miss a single class because every day mattered. Moat Academy challenged me and helped me become the developer I am today. What have you been able to achieve with the training? Thanks to the training, I can now build real web applications, work confidently on client projects, and I even secured a developer role shortly after graduating. More importantly, Moat Academy gave me the confidence and foundation to grow and succeed in tech. Can you share your experience since graduating from Moat Academy? Since finishing Moat Academy, I’ve landed a developer role, completed paid projects, and kept growing in tech. I once walked into an interview not realizing it was for a senior role, but the HR later offered me a contract to improve his web application! That moment really showed me how far I’d come, and I’m excited for what’s next. What advice do you have for those coming into Moat Academy? My advice is simple: stay consistent, be curious, and don’t skip a single class. The program is intense, but every lesson matters. Practice daily, ask questions, and embrace the challenges, it will push you further than you think and set you up for real success in tech. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? In five years, I see myself as a senior developer leading impactful projects, mentoring upcoming developers, and building innovative solutions that make a difference. I want to keep growing, learning, and contributing to the tech industry on a bigger scale. "The world wants a gigantic amount more software, 100 times maybe a thousand times more software," Altman said, explaining why programmer salaries are "going up extremely rapidly in Silicon Valley" despite AI's capabilities. - Culled from finalroundai Programming skill is a prerequisite to AI, and also the foundation of software development. If you have not heard? Here, we break the news! There is a rise of global hiring in the software engineering field Some people will find the above statement puzzling, having read of layoffs in some of the big tech companies in the US , especially in the FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google) in recent times. Yes, there is evidence of a geographic shift in software engineering talent from the US to places like India and Africa, driven by growing developer populations in these regions and the availability of cost-effective talent. "Contrary to what is happening in the US, the demand for software engineers is increasing in India. Projected IT sector growth (2025): 15–20% Software engineering global outlook: +17% growth through 2033 Key drivers: Digital transformation, AI integration, cloud migration, startup ecosystem boom, and GCC (Global Capability Center) expansion. The Indian software development job market in 2025 is healthy, diverse, and full of opportunity. " Source: Muneeb dev's article on Software Development Job Market India 2025: Salaries, Growth, AI & Full Stack Demand Therefore, when reading tech news, avoid making generalizations because there are differences in what is happening in different software engineering job markets, such as those in America, India, Africa, and so forth. Here, we can see clearly a tale of two worlds; AI integration is driving demand in the India market! Why is there a difference between the impact of AI in the two worlds? In his post on LinkedIn, David Stephania (Founder, ThirstySprout) stated that: “The biggest threat to US tech jobs isn't AI. It's 5.4M Indian engineers willing to work twice the hours for a fraction of the cost of US engineers. The current job openings are going to India and other hard-working countries The Numbers: → Indian IT sector: $227B industry → US tech layoffs: 260,000 in 2023 and +150,000 in 2024, with way more to come in 2025 The Pattern: US tech giants aren't just chasing lower costs. They're finding workers who are aligned with extreme hours and have better corporate culture that matches US executive demands. The biggest US job displacement is happening through cultural arbitrage, not through AI “ If you keep your ears close to the ground, you'll notice that demand for software engineers is shifting through geographic arbitrage (where zip code is becoming more important than the code) and cultural arbitrage (where the hustling attitude is winning) among other influences. Majority of what happens in the Indian software sector also occurs in Africa. We just need to raise more quality software professionals in Africa, as India leads the way due to its larger developer population. According to the State of the Software Engineering Job Market for 2025 report, “we’re seeing a geographic shift in talent. GitHub reports significant growth in India, Africa, and Latin America, with India on track to have the largest developer population by 2028” India has a vast and experienced tech workforce, while Africa offers cost-effective, high-quality talent and benefits from regional office setups by major global tech firms. Most experienced developers in Nigeria will tell you that global remote work is becoming more and more popular, and that their pay has increased. This is also placing pressure on local tech companies in Nigeria on getting and retaining quality software talents. What can you do now? From the outlook, there is projected growth for demand for software engineers in Africa, Latin America and India. In order to avoid missing out completely, there has never been a better time to begin acquiring experience in this lucrative profession. Join our upcoming coding boot camp by completing our assessment form on https://moatacademy.com/signup/apply to achieve this.

Developing programming skill is essential to staying to stay relevant in the present and future. Let us share the story of the advent of spreadsheets and automation in accounting. Accounting practice was extremely laborious back then, and when spreadsheets and automation arrived, many predicted the end of the accounting profession. The advent of spreadsheets and automation has not eliminated the need for accountants. Instead, it has revolutionized the profession, creating new opportunities for accountants to focus on higher-value tasks and make more significant contributions to corporate success. This is what is currently happening in the software development profession and will continue to happen in the foreseeable future. There is never a better moment to become a software developer than now! |
Why are women underrepresented in software development? This is a rhetorical question. Putting the question in other words, "with great successes recorded by women in the software development field, why is there not an influx of women in this lucrative field?"Sponsored Post

We are living in a new era in which people are more concerned with what a child scores in an exam than how the exam was written; how wealthy than how the wealth was earned; winning an election than how the election was handled, and so on. Johnson, Scholes and Whittington define core values as principles that guide an organization’s actions. "A highly-developed values system is like a compass. It serves as a guide to point you in the right direction when you are lost.” – Idowu Koyenikan With this, we acknowledge that everybody should have some values, how many do you share with us? We have so many values but these seven are central to our existence. And they are our core values: DIGITAL We are DIGITAL D- Discipline We don't only see discipline as a principle of business but as a principle of greatness. At Moat Academy, we strive for greatness because good is not good enough. "Find what you love to do and go do it.
