shadeyinka: Empires, I wonder if you watched the video you posted preaching against indecent dressing not the wearing of bukah or hijab. Except what you Muslims also preach is that a woman can dress as indecently as she can BUT cover it up with hijab!
Sometimes I smile when you accuse Christian organisations like CAN of behaving like you!
Not getting off point: 1. Church members contributed money to buy land on which to build schools where Moslems were not prevented from attending 2. Government grant-aided the schools where a. Government manage school administration b. Government employ their own teachers c. Government pay their own teachers
Years after, Muslims say because they have the highest population in the state, therefore the schools belonged to them.
Is this NOT robbery? Is this Muslim behaviour sanctioned by Allah? Is this a Jihad of aggression?
As usual, you will recite the words of Shaitan without answering any of the questions!
Religion of Hooligans!
Is this how Islam practice PEACE!?
The issue of the hijab brought up just exposed the bigotry of these Ilorin muslims.
1. Radio Kwara has mosque built by the state fund ( tax payer includ muslim and Christians) yet no chapel 2. Kwara Tv has mosque built by state fund ( tax payer's) 3. All the state ministries and departments have provision for mosque but not chapel.
How tolerant is islam in a state with it has almost equal population of the Islam and Christianity safe for the capital whose indigenes are most moslems and a few Christians. Yes there are few Christians of Ilorin origin ( I have met a few of them). Even at that, a look at resident population of Ilorin may not accord it the status as being claimed to be ' closer to "jannah" (paradise) but far from "Jahannam" (hell). Just a criss cross of the city on a Sunday will tell you There could be Christians in equal population as muslims living in Ilorin.
The attempt to force hijab on Christian mission schools in Ilorin is to project that they are more than Christians.
Undoubtedly, the sharia CJN will most definitely be sympathetic with his religion. The case in the supreme court may go in favour of hijab.
In Yoruba parlance when trust is lost and hope of justice is elusive, we say " mo fa e le kootu Olorun" meaning I hand you over to God the impartial judge who judges every motive of mortal man at His appointed time.
YusufTheGreat: The school belongs to the goverment now, so any body can attend.... What are the intentions of the muslims in kwara state? How does wearing of hijab affects these christian churches? Even marry the mother of jesus covered her hair through out her life time.. Why the fuss?
Your last answer is Yes. I say it once again the schools are goverment own, it is no longer a church school. Gbam
Can you substantiate how these schools are fully government schools?
If they are government fully why are these churches being forced to pay grand rent tax, tenement rate etc?
How can government be collecting tax on what it owns from the church!
Why is the C of O of these properties still in the name of these churches?
If you can provide answers, perhaps, they will suffice.
I maintain, what muslims are pushing for is more than hijab. What Christians are resisting is beyond hijab
capitalzero: Muslims want more than Hijab. Hijab is just smokescreen. Churches and their members had invested much in those schools while many government schools are wasting away. Most mission schools in core north had their names changed to government schools. Legacies of churches in those schools were erased. Let government builds more schools to accommodate students from poor homes. They should return those schools to their owners.
YusufTheGreat: are you the one wearing it?, did the girls tell you they dont like it? I dont know why you guys take panadol on another persons head ache... The president of tanzania is a Woman she is always wearing hijab 24 /7? Nobody forces christians to wear hijab.
And nobody is forcing them to attend these schools. Unless you live in Kwara State that is when you will know the intentions of these muslims in Kwara State. What the Christians are resisting is beyond hijab. Why it is emotional for Christians is because some of these schools are located inside church compound.
Can any Christian emblem be worn around any school located in a mosque compound in Ilorin? I doubt
Empiree: what are you talking about?. Many private established Muslim missionary schools were taken by govt. So what are you talking about?.
Muslim College ijebu ode was also taken in the 70s by govt. It was Muslim missionary school built in the 40s and founded in 1950. In 1970, govt took over the school. That was when govt took over many missionary schools till today.
Muslim college ijebu ode is multi-religious school. Hijab is allowed and optional. Christian fellowship do their things. Muslims do their things and the school is still under govt So why is kwara christian missionary school different?.
Govt is not stealing anything. Govt is regulating everything. Christians in kwara either abide by state law or get loss.
Get your facts right. Ogun State was created in 1976 while Kwara had been created 9 years earlier in 1967. Kwara State at the time ( including present Kogi and part of Niger States) had only three schools belonging to government out about 68 schools then. It was not a take over, it was partnership in which aid will be granted in 1972. The then military governor's speech is in the public domain in its original form/ format.
Talking about Ijebu Ode could be different from talking about Kwara. Each state had its peculiar approach then. That why some states changed the names of the schools while some other did not. They have their reasons and intentions
lahizak: Did any of you consider the fact that once the school is returned to the missionaries, more than 60-70% of students will be forced to drop out from the school. The only reason why most students are their is because of the low fees, dat fee will significantly increase if it is returned, lot of innocent children will be affected.
That may not be true. The issue in Kwara state is quite peculiar. The christian missions maintain their schools by members money that is why these Muslims find them attractive. It is true the population of Muslim pupils/ students outweighs that of Christians in some of the schools affected. Go to the schools belonging to Islamic mission and see deplorable state in spite of successive government pumping money to maintain them and neglecting Christian mission schools.
Christians who value quality education no matter how poor they are won't mind sending their children and wards to good school no matter the cost.
mu2sa2: Meanwhile, 1Corinthians11:6 says: "If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should cover her head." This is bible on what muslims call hijab. Even Virgin Mary is never depicted by christians without wearing headscarf (or hijab, as muslims call it). Some folks are ignoramuses in religion that's why they engage in useless controversies like hijab-wearing in so-called mission schools, schools that are 100% govt-funded in kwara. This reminds me of one such mumu who thought he was mocking muslims by referring to them as headslammers, when even Jesus is recorded in Matthew 26:39 like this - "Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed". "Fell with his face to the ground" - that's what muslims do in their salat. Hallelujah, Allahu Akbar, God is Great!
That is the problems of you guys about Christianity. If it is head covering must it be hijab? Why don't you propose gele? When these schools started, being mission schools, cap was part of the unform. So what is your argument about instructions for worship in 1 Corinthians?
Talking about facing down to pray, that amused me. You know why? God is not confined by certain position to hear our prayers or accept our worship. Christianity existed for about 600 years before Islam. That is why Islam smuggled so many biblical accounts into Quran.
Onlyonebuhari: That doesn't stop CAN from being terrorists for disturbing others from dressing modestly. Did any Muslim force Hijab on them?
Whatever happens to the use of original designed unform that includes beret cap or custom made cap for the girls if it is about head covering. Islam just like noisy expressions
Is clearly very wrong and untrue. The schools in Kwara were Grant-aided and NOT taken over by the government. The agreement was that 1. Government take over the administration of the schools 2. Government employ the teachers and handle promotions and pensions 3. Government receives the school fees or whatever the students are paying 4. The Propietors retain their rights to the properties and the Spiritual time of the schools. 5. The Propietors appoint their board of governors.
So, clearly if the propietors still maintain the physical structures and appoint their own board of governors while their exist no single financial gain to the propietors for the so-called Government takeover.
Such alleged takeover is a TAQQIYA (a big fat lie designed to make it look like there was an agreement of takeover from the word go)
You forgot to add that the church: 1. Pays tax on the buildings ( Grand rent) 2. Maintains the buildings 3. Appoints Board of Governors 4. Recommends principals
So when was these schools taken over and the church would still be foolishly doing a lot to maintain the heritage?
Talking from both sides of the mouth. Your article last week gave you out on religious mode betraying your secularism garb. This latest article you have been your thoughts last week on this issue. I am sure you had a rethink after backlash from so many people.
If wearing hijab is a right of muslim woman, then I ask: 1. Why are muslim female VIO officials not wearing yet? 2. Why are muslim female Fire Service officials not wearing yet? 3.Why are muslim female NSDC officials not wearing yet?
In fact, Road Safety, Police, DSS, and all the armed forces formation women, why are they not on hijab?
What is stopping these bigots to change the first chapter of the constitution that states that Nigeria is a secular state.
Truly Ade Love was a great actor and singer. Most of his films had moment of music to interpret his movies. Taxi Driver was taken round major cinemas back then before the advent of home video. We only got to watch foreign movies on VHS, mostly India films and a few of Chinese movies. The only thing of African moving picture I remember watching on VHS machine circa 81/82 was a documentary of Indiami of Uganda!
Ade Love bequeathed to Nollywood: * Moji ( Ojopagogo's wife) * Kunle *Gabriel *Aremu And their aunty, Lola ( idije)
Truly Kwara is blessed with great actors and actresses except for this hijab crisis
“Go home to “know” our wives,” the men cried out and then shouted loudly.
It was the battle cry they usually sang before a major fight.
“It is time to bleed or be bled,” said Gareb as he and Uriah helped each other put on their armour.
“It’s never a good day to die,” responded Uriah, as his mind wandered back to the strategy meeting that held early that morning.
“What do we know about the people of Ammon? Joab asked.
“We know they will come out to fight and not hide behind their walls,” came the reply from Zelek.
“Their most valiant soldiers are usually sent after their archers. But in this instance, we expect them to stay back to repel our attacks if and when we get past the archers,” added Eliam, the father of Bathsheba.
“How do we get past the archers with minimal casualty?” Joab asked.
“We can do a mock charge to engage their archers. That way we ascertain their shooting range and brig our archers into play,” suggested Joseb.
“Hmm, I like the mock charge,” stated Joab.
“I think we should do 3 waves of mock charge. 1000 men each, to really get them worried. Since we outnumber their 10,000 soldiers 5 to 1,” said Abishai, brother of Joab.
“Numbers don’t win wars,” stated Shammah.
“Yes, they don’t, superior strategy do. So we will also flank them on both sides. Once their archers are actively engaged with the waves of mock charge, we will attack them from both sides. This should confuse them and allow us bring our archers in range and into play,” said Abishai.
“This sounds good to me. Or what do you say guys?” Joab asked.
They nodded in agreement.
“I will lead the first mock charge,” stated Abishai, brother of Joab.
“And I the second wave,” said Eleazar.
“No, Abishai and Eleazar will be in charge of the 2nd and 3rd wave respectively,” responded Joab.
Jollylolly: Ignorance will not ki you. Is it not the staff who are Christians in those schools that caused trouble; allowed politicians to twist their church mind? The missionaries were the ones that said the state government should take over ownership of the schools since they cant bear the running of the schools, cant pay salaries again, then the government took ownership and since then, no problem...so why now? ask yourself this question.
The schools arr situated where Muslims are, easier to access those schools by both Muslims and Christians, even when it were ran by missionaries, Muslims attended. This is a fight they cant win, Ilorin is a Muslim town, no dispute about this, if they dont want them in the first place, they would not have given them land but that is not what Ilorin stand for.
Then to talk about your gibberish, You obviously dont have sense, i dont think there is need. But talking nonesense about one religion is bad, especially from someone whose religion was never mentioned in the bible. either old testament or the adulterated new testament
SMH.
You are not conversant with Ilorin geography of about 100 years ago. Let me school you a bit.
Where missionaries were stationed were in the outskirts of the town some 100 years ago which has become choice areas of the town. Old Oyo bypass was once a drudgery road. Christians were pushed there now it is now famously known as Taiwo road where you have ECWA, CAC, Catholic church buildings.
KayGood: We should get the fact right. Not in church but In public schools. Not for the Christian students but Muslim students who are willing to use it. It is not compulsory. You may want to ask why the schools bear Christian names. It is so because the schools were founded by the missionaries but they have been acquired by the state government in the year 1975, but the government did not change the name. The government is fully in charge of the appointment and funding of the schools. So nobody is forcing hijab on anybody.
How much was paid for the land and buildings? Why do these churches still have C of O of the land?
Setting bad precedence. I guess banditry and pillage are native to the precolonial far northern Nigeria fuelled by religious belief. Check history books. E get why history was abolished in secondary school education by the 'fifu' in the helms of affairs at the ministry of education; just to hide their ugly past?
Ayilara1: Be sad on your ignorance, who wrote those books? I laugh. Its like someone saying hijab wearing in the north is cultural. Yes, it has turned into culture but what gave birth to it is them embracing Islam.
Again, pre-islamic Arabs don't wear hijab.
I'm not a Muslim you can teach modicum of his religion.
