Konga, jumia even the almighty facebook advertise even if they are well known.
But our oga seun does not see the need to advertise.
Its a pity.
Nairaland has the revenue to do this.
Privateproperties dot com dot ng even dey dstv.

Seun should come out from his small shell except he doesn't dream bigger.
He might have achieved his dream. Hence making nairaland stagnant.

Watin concern me.
Just my 2 cents

Lol. Tell that to the ibo boys in Idumota, Alaba etc, the hausa abokis who have their own businesses, land and cattle and compare their numbers with the amount of unemployed graduates including graduates that can't fill their NYSC forms and the ones that can't compose a simple essay. Don't forget the graduates that have been employed by these drop outs and then you can come back and delete this thread

Jobs/VacanciesWhy Many Nigerian School Dropouts Never Make It In Life by moderatorr1(op):
Statistics have it that just like in music, less than 1% of people who start out in life by dropping out of school eventually make it to million dollar status in life. What research and motivational books doesnt explain so far is the reason why this is so.

Many young men and women after reading books and biographies of rich men all around the world decide who quit school to become billionaires are motivated to drop their school bags too. Many they continue in this less troden path until they become blatant failures in life without knowing why.

Using Nigeria as a case study, I would mention some of the major less mentioned reasons why most people who drop out of school never made it:

1. They drop into loneliness: What many people dont know is that about 98% of the people who dropped to become billionaires did it in pairs - they had close friends who dropped out with them and started the journey together with them.

a. Bill gates founder of Microsoft had Paul Allen
b.Mark Zuckerberg founder of Facebook had Dustin Moskovits, Eduardo Saverin, Chris Huges, Sean Parker
c. Steve Jobs founder of apple had Steve Wozniak
d. Sergie Brin founder of Google had Larry Pages
And so on. Many Nigerians who drop out of school, attempt to start out alone - this is usually disastrous though a few number of people have succeeded that way.

Here are the few number of people who have succeeded alone:
a. Matt Muttenweg founder of wordpress
b. Seun Osewa founder of Nairaland.

2.They drop into confusion: Not knowing what to do in life to make a living is a big problem. Most people who drop out of school drop into complete confusion because they had no plan before dropping out. The whole path to the future become a complete maze. They never planed what to do after school. Contrary to this approach, billionaires who dropped out of school were already pretty certain on what to be after school. Founder of virgin atlantic airways already owned a newspaper coy by the time he was droping out of school.

3. They drop out of laziness: Most people who fail in life woefully after droping out of school actually dropped out of school as a result of sheer laziness. They couldnt just study hard enough to pass so take the usual excuse that most billionaires around the world dropped out of school to become billionaires. Funny enough, most billionaires who dropped out of school were actually workaholics by the time they were dropping out of school (read my write up on starting the right business). Bill Gates already landed a software production contract with IBM before he said goodbye. Mark Zuckerberg had already built 'TheFacebook' before he called it quits.

"When I called my mum and told her i was dropping out of school, she laughed and said she knew I was never going to finish school when she saw the way I worked" -Mark Zuckerberg founder of facebook.

So why quit school if you can still continue.

4. They drop into thorny grounds Most billionaires who dropped out of school had a soft landing. They had rich or average parents who provided some sort of key support for them after they dropped out. Bill Gates had a well to do magistrate as his father and a mother who helped him secure the big contract at IBM. Mark Zuckerberg's parents supported him with $85,000 loan when he started. Aliku Dangote, had a rich uncle who helped set him up in business and supported him through the early stages.

There are few exceptions to this though, people like steve jobs the founder of apple and Atiku Abubakar, one time vice president of Nigeria actually started from the bottom. But there is something else to look at - they had a conducive economic climate. Things usually go as planned. Software and software don't get pirated as much. Its easier in their respective countries to find 1 million people who can easily buy your product online for $1 just to test it.

Its far easier to find investors there because of enlightenment. Generally, most people who made it landed on soft grounds.

5. They drop out of school and out of learning Most people who fail after dropping out of school actually dropped out of school and out of studying. The truth is that no one can succeed without self education. Learning new tricks of the trade, under standing the stock market, studying econmics and accounting and so on. Quote me anyday, Self education is priceless.

6. They drop into a non profitable business or idea Before dropping out of school, most people who did, actually had a profitable business that was already making some sort of income or gaining traction. Nairaland had 300 members in its first month. Facebook was already the talk of the town with over 20000 members before Mark Zuckerberg quit. Wordpress was already the blogging CMS with a community.

Most people who loose in life after quitting school actually never had a working idea before quiting, they quit then try to work it out - wrong.

So if you are planing to quit school or know any one who is planning to quit using my one simple self-examination question "do i already have a profitable business that will suffer if i continue school?" . If your answer is know, my good friend, its not yet time to quit school. Try to keep running the business while pushing forwared in your academics. Strike a balance between business and study hours and keep moving.

Here is my one simple line advice for anyone who intends to drop out of school. "Dont drop out of school until it is absolutely impossible to continue" Or "dont drop out of school before your monthly business income surpasses your school fees".

PoliticsMan Arrested With 64 Iphones In His Pants While Crossing The Border by moderatorr1(op): 2:03pm On Jan 16, 2015
Man caught smuggling 64 i-phones by strapping them to his body.

A middle aged man was caught trying to smuggle 64 i-phones strapped to his body. Custom securities saw him walking with some robotic gait before stopping him. His physical size was relatively normal so they decided to search his bags. The search yielded nothing, but one of them suggested he pass through the metal detector. The alarm went off soon as he entered. A quick strip search revealed this shocking pictures.

I-phones cost about $824 outside china, but costs about $1000 in mainland china due to import duties. That's about $200 difference. Smugglers have been making lots of money off this price difference. For this one, greed made him carry way too many i-phones.

Konga and Jumia have taken to the Streets. On the web, they're well represented in various mediums: Social media, Search Engines, Blogs, Forums etc This is what NL hasn't done. Infact, for someone to find NL, it's mostly on Google (NL has little domain on Social Media). Visitors which visits NL through Google mostly never come back. Even some who do, only register and probably never comment.

Nairaland isn't looking too social. What about Twitter? It's visited far more visited and more popular than NL here in Nigeria.

To wrap it up, We Nigerians like to buy things. Whether we buy them or not, we just want to check it out.

Finally, Alexa rankings is in no way a measure to know how websites are popular. Alexa.com only detects sites that passes through their service i.e Browsers that has Alexa Toolbar installed. How much percentage of NL users visit through desktop not to talk of installing Alexa Toolbar?

These are things you should take into account.
This sort of explains everything.

Many Bloggers signup for konga's affiliate program and nearly all bloggers have alexa toolbar installed.

Konga overtakes Nairaland in Alexa's listing of nigeria's most visited websites,
does it mean people search for what to buy more than they search for what to read?

I personally dont think this is likely. Or is there some dark art black magic someone is performing somewhere?

What do you guys think?

EDIT: As a web developer, i know Alexa is easy to beat. Just create a spam bot that keeps refreshing your pages forever. Thats it. Only google analytics can really spot this. Alexa is blind to it.

But if Konga's overtake of is for real then thats a shocker. It means alibaba, amazon, ebay should have more visitors than facebook.
And people shop more than they browse online. This might be an indicator to the direction a blogger should follow.

More american soldiers have died in Iraq than the total number of nigerians killed by boko haram. In 9/11
5 thousand Americans died as a result of terrorism. Lets not blame terrorism on anybody.
Even america, the most powerful nation in the world can not defeat 'simple' alquaeda with all there military sophistication and firm presidential speeches over the years.
American soldiers are still dying in iraq and the problem is getting larger (ISIS)

Past presidents were supposed to have equipped the army during their tenure.

But they didn't. The last time Nigeria bought any real war planes was in 1967 and 1968, 30 and 34 planes respectively.

Old planes, now gone and unusable. Because Nigeria was not at war they were just embezzling he security budget. Now we are at war, Nigeria has only 10 fighter jets, 6 of which was bought by Jonathan. Japan has 380, tiny Israel has 460.
(see: http://www.globalfirepower.com/country-military-strength-detail.asp?country_id=Nigeria)

Military weapons are very expensive. Jonathan applied for $1b and people are screaming but he too has confirmed that even $10 b cannot equip the army to exterminate boko haram.

Our soldiers are I'll equipped. If you have read my other investigative write ups, i mentioned that one of the major reasons our Soldiers run atimes is because sometimes the kind of weapons boko haram confronts them with , they have not seen it before. 1 bullet of a 50 cal costs $5 - $7 . that's about N1000 A 50 cal shoots about 100 bullets in 15 seconds, that's about N100,000 for shooting for 15 seconds!
So imagine how much is spent on a 6 hour battle with boko haram. Most bombs cost $25,000 , that's about N4.5m If we had enough weapons , boko haram would have been a thing of the pst. Our past presidents has failed us. Jonathan was right.

President Jonathan's tenure is the first time we are seeing Nigerian soldiers with bullet proof vests, anti ballistic weapons and apache helicopters.
This is where we would have been in 1995, if our democracy was not halted in 1983. And now, one of our night mares from the 80s is back again. After Jonathan has ruled till 2019, we are going to find another young , vibrant and educated person to pilot the affairs of this nation eg. Fashola, Rochas, Sullivan Chime, Oshiomole, Tambuwal and any other one of the 40 million Nigerian youths.
Nigeria just have to move forwards not backwards
