Romance / Re: What Are The Reasons For High Level Of 30 Years+ Single Ladies In Nigeria? by MOELLIOTT(f): 2:15am On Mar 02, 2013
No short way of saying it! It is not an issue peculiar to Nigeria. It is worldwide.

I haven't read all the thread, but I read one that said something about family and home training. It is not exclusively so and more a misconception. There are now many many decent, well raised, "untouched" ladies who are still single.

A few points to note - the population/demography is such that more women than men are born. Men are increasingly marrying much later in life, which implies more women are going to be left waiting. When the man in his early 30's finally decides to marry, he is likely to go for a woman in her mid to late 20's. This means he has passed or reached down, leaving an age band in between. Conversely, if a man were marrying in his mid 20's, he'll most likely marry someone only a few years younger. If he were marrying in his 30's, the scope he can chose from becomes wider - for some anything from 20-30 years - implying he has more women to pick from. For the woman, it means even "mathematically" the probabilities are stacked higher against her.

For as long as more women are being born, and men delay marrying it would continue to remain a challenge.

One mature matching website said for every man they have, they have over 10 women.

Is there a general solution? Maybe not. Except the gender imbalance is redressed through more male/less female children being born. If that were to happen, it still takes a few decades for the new births to grow too. So realistically, not an immediate answer. But on an individual basis, one can seek to encourage young women to marry earlier than male counterparts, so they don't find the pool of men they can chose from is less in size. For the older ones who are still hopeful, be realistic and review your criteria. There is less and less to pick from.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Common Mistakes By Graduates When Job-Hunting by MOELLIOTT(f): 3:20am On Feb 28, 2013
The issue of CV sent via Blackberry itself isn't main challenge, it needs to be sent with at least a short cover letter.

Thank God for internet - please if job hunting, access form filling and interview skills sites and train yourself on how it should be done. If you need help, always ask someone who you know is good at it.

Always REMEMBER you are competing against 100's of others for the post. The recruiter is going through so many applications. Help him and help yourself - MAKE YOURS STAND OUT! It requires effort.

Every success.

Crushing

Please please be very careful before you release your money to anybody. Nigeria is not a place you enter arrangements with just anybody.

National newspaper remains your best bet, in my opinion. If you are doing long term marketing, they will give you a reduced rate.

For your kind of field, you are better off speaking to people in the stone crushing industry.
Education / Re: 16-year-old girl Miss Edem Ekpoawan Irene Tops Jamb Score, 310 by MOELLIOTT(f): 5:51pm On Apr 17, 2009
First I must commend the speed with which the papers have been marked. Its the first in the history of Nigeria. The exams were taken on Saturday and by the Tuesday of the next week they were ready to be released, but for the Easter break in between! It's a trend that needs to be emulated by every service area in Nigeria. It gives students the opportunity to plan and make alternative arrangements if need be!

In response to "aggresive's" comments regarding cultism and admission of young children helping to stem the distasteful acts, may I say it is highly improbable that because admission age is getting younger, cultism would seize. The fear of many parents is that these young and gullible children might be drawn or intimidated in.

Admitting younger children to Nigerian universities is not a solution to the barbaric activities of some students.[/color] It is sad that the university authorities and law enforcement are not more effective in putting a stop to the lawlessness we see in institutions.

Finally, please can someone answer the question of much lower numbers take in the sciences and why generally the score/performance in Jamb sciences are also quite lower than social sciences.

Thank you!

Investment / Re: Ordinary And Preference Shares! What Is The Difference? by MOELLIOTT(f): 11:57pm On Feb 12, 2008
Hi

There are a few differences between an Ordinary and a Preferential Share.

1. If a company is folding up (Bankruptcy), the Preferential Shareholder would get pay out priority over the Ordinary Shareholder

2. Preferred shares might also pay higher returns - higher dividend per share

3. The downside to Preferential shares is they don't usually have voting rights on company policy issues

Finally, some companies allow a conversion and would give you a convention worth from Preferential to Ordinary Shares.

I hope its clear.

Family / Re: Orphanages In Nigeria. by MOELLIOTT(f): 12:16am On Oct 17, 2007
It is highly unrealistic to expect everyone to adopt, but as an alternative, one can facilitate the care of a "parentless child" by proxy! All you need to do is do your homework before releasing the resources. Posterity would thank you for the act.

It would be inappropriate to discountenance the hardwork many organizations and even individuals put into setting up and running Orphanages in Nigeria. Many of them go unknown and even unfunded.

Generally speaking, Nigerians aren't inclined to give to structured or organised charitable organisations on a consistent basis (as opposed to the odd alms, etc). This might be because of our family network systems and the fact that most people have numerous family members seeking assistance or heavily reliant on them one way or another already.

Nigeria still has many genuinely humanitarian people, who see social action as a solution to the lag between what society requires and The State might be able to provide. What is required is your encouragement, support and practical commitment from those for whom running such organisations or having such a vision is not an option.

Bless you awesomely!
