FoodRe: Bread Dipped In Hot Chocolate? by mohawkchic(f): 8:40pm On Nov 05, 2009
Ndipe:
I dont care about the breadcrumbs at the bottom of the coffee cup. It's my handiwork and I am gonna eat it. One other thing, as a child, I loved slurping my tea with teaspoon while stirring at it. Just hated drinking it from the cup when it was hot, and did not know how adults could do it without being scorched. Even now, in extreme cases when the cup of tea is hot, I will slurp it with a tablespoon while stirring it till it cools down.

"If you love a twist on the Western and African world then you would love Nike Akinola’s timeless, luxurious and extravagant designs created with a fusion of vibrant African prints and Western elegance. An art major in school, her years of learning how to draw portraits and create sculptures has served as the background to her fashion works evident in her immaculately designed pieces with clean cut lines.

Upon graduation from school, Nike has worked with great designers like Phillipa Lepley, Lindka Cierach and Alice Temperley all of whom have added their sense of style to the fashion world. There is no denying that she has learnt a lot from them. Her Signature label was launched in 2004 and since then Nike has been creating exquisite conservative, yet still elegant designs suitable for the African and Western World.

Although the journey has not been easy, Nike continues to persevere and work hard towards the creation of her Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections which will showcase winter wear with coats and jackets while adding a splash of colour to those grey and cold British evenings.

Even though she lives in London, one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world, this Lady is Nigerian at Heart and Art and even shows this in her demure cocktail-dresses and sassy choice of prints. Her couture designs are inspired by the classic theme. Nike believes the classics are called classics for a reason and designers should never design based on the latest trend as you will forever be dictated to as a designer.

Like it or Not, Nike Akinola is a name to be reckoned with. Her ability to mastermind creative designs in to looks that are foxy, timeless and ideal for the internationally-minded African woman definitely deserves an accolade."

Fashion~ Nigerian Fashion Designer Nike Akinola ~ by mohawkchic(op): 8:15pm On Nov 05, 2009
~Nike Akinola launched her signature label in 2004 and has been designing and creating unique garments for the last five years. Her work is a subtle and exquisite fusion of Western elegance coupled with flamboyant and elaborate African fabrics. She combines beautiful fabric with creative design and, most importantly, Africa’s art, history and culture.

The beautiful prints and lace are both modern and traditional. They are a true reflection of her native surroundings. When using traditional materials, she brings a sense of warmth, comfort, and harmony into our environment.

She is unrelenting in her desire to bring traditional fabrics to the forefront of fashion, celebrating the excellence in her rich and illustrious culture. We strongly believe that these designs work well in every style imaginable whether traditional or contemporary, lending their own inherent tone, character, and interest. She not only embraces her ancestry but reflects current trends in an ever evolving continent.

Ok,next question, how much info is too much? I want my kid to be informed but i don't want him/her to be a walking encyclopedia on the subject at 8.
~You give him information based on his understanding. . . the more you think he understands, the more info you give him. . .Just remember to always answer his Q's as honestly as you can, continue to educate him w/ more & more details each time you have "The Talk" depending on his interest in the topic, his level of maturity & his understanding.

~ I also learnt having "The talk" should not occur in one all-or-nothing session. It should be more of an unfolding process, having series of "talks" one in which the child learns over time, what they really need to know. Questions should be answered as they arise so that childs' natural curiosity is satisfied as they mature.SoOoo i plan on initiating our series of "talks" rather than wait for him to come to me w/ Q's.

~My Hubby & I started having "Talks" w/ my son when he turned 7. .We've gone thro the "Good & Bad Touch" ,"Where Do Babies Come From" ,"Why Do People Have Beard On Their Armpits" & "Do NOT Play Doctor" stage. . .  His school had already started teaching Sex Education when he was 6. . he'll be 8 in a couple of months & i'm looking forward to our "Talks" &  expect more questions from him. . ."Birds & The Bees"?

~Knowing there will be those Awkward Questions/Moments i dont want to be caught not knowing the answer/how to begin to answer, I'm kind of ahead of myself on this one. . .i've been educating meself online on the "How To's" . . .I figured i have to educate me on Q's he's already asking,Q's he'll be likely to ask as he grows older. . . .my doing so have helped me answer his Q's as honsetly & openly as i can depending on his understanding of the concept/context of his Q's.
