I know a lot of people have wondered why Ghana with a population of under 35M has more more TV channels than Nigeria with a population of over 170M.

Funny enough, more Nigerians are hooked to those channels day and night than are Ghanaians.

Here are a few reasons:

1. Ghanaians quest for Knowledge: The literacy rate of Ghana at 82% is way higher than Nigeria's 68%. Ghanaians TV owners want to inform their people and TV is a great medium.

Return on Investment: Ghanaians are increasingly away they hold the Nigerian market plus their local market and beyond. This is evident on Nigerian brand ads on their programs.

The bigger picture: Once the TV channels are firmly rooted in the minds of people it becomes hard to unroot, ask BBC and Seun.
