She is known for her comedic roles and her ability to mimic different accents and personalities. Darasimi Omoseyin was born on June 12, 1992, in Lagos, Nigeria, and graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in Mass Communication. She is married to Oladapo Omoseyin, a businessman, and they have a daughter named Oluwafunmilayo. Aside from acting, Darasimi runs a skincare company known as Skims Skincare Spa that deals in effective skincare products and spa services including Traditional Spa, Massage, Waxing, Facials & Body Wash. Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, also known as Simi Gold was arrested in February 2023, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for tampering with the new naira notes. She was filmed spraying and stepping on newly issued naira notes worth 100,000 naira ($83; £66) while dancing at a friend’s wedding in Lekki, Lagos, on January 28, 2024. The naira notes she abused had just been redesigned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to address the scarcity of cash in the country. Her actions violated Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007, which prohibits any person from hawking, selling, spraying, squeezing, or mutilating the naira or any note issued by the CBN. She was arraigned on February 13, 2023, by the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on two-count charges, to which she pleaded “not guilty” and was granted bail. She changed her plea to “guilty” on February 1, 2024, after the EFCC presented “overwhelming” evidence against her, including the video footage of the event, her statement, and the forensic report of her phone. Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, sentenced her to six months imprisonment with an option to pay $250 fine. Through her lawyer, she pleaded for leniency, saying she was a first-time offender, a mother of one, and remorseful. She also asked for a non-custodial sentence, but the judge rejected her request. Interestingly, Omoseyin is not the first Nigerian celebrity to be arrested for abusing the naira notes. In 2018, musician Efe Omorogbe was also charged with the same offence after he was caught spraying money at a nightclub in Lagos. The narcotics intelligence bureau of the CID seized Methamphetamine (crystal meth) and arrested a Nigerian national for illegal trafficking under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on Monday. A special team led by AD Sakkaravarthy , DSP, arrested the Nigerian identified as Grant Victor Ikenna, 32, a native of Nigeria, near Chennai Central Railway Station entrance on Wall Tax Road and seized 59 gm of the drug worth ₹3.25 Lakh. Preliminary investigation revealed that he had come to India on tourist visa in 2014 that expired in 2015. However, he continued to stay here. He had been arrested under the Foreigners Act by Perundurai police in Erode and was released on bail in October, 2022. Police registered a case under Sections 8(c) r/w 22(C) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is being conducted. Nigerian Emmanuel Chinedu Ejieke was arrested by police in the Philippines with crystal meth (shabu) worth P136,000 (over N1.1m). The arrest happened during an anti-illegal drug operation late Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Ninoy Aquino village in Angeles City. Angeles City police director Colonel Juritz Rara identified in a statement the arrested suspect as Emmanuel Chinedu Ejike, 27, of Camachiles village in this city. Rara said the Nigerian is a “high-value individual” on the police list of drug personalities. He had on his person crystal meth worth 136,000 Philippine pesos (which translates to over a million Naira!) when the police arrested him. The raid went down after 10 p.m. Wednesday. Angeles City police, with operatives from the province and region, conducted the buy-bust operation against the suspect. Lawmen allegedly confiscated from Ejike some 20 grams of suspected shabu and recovered the marked P1,000-bill placed atop the nine pieces of “boodle” (play) P1,000 bills. Emmanuel Chinedu Ejieke faces charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. A Nigerian woman who was studying in Scotland, Chinenye Vera Okonkwo, has been killed after being hit by a car in the Scottish capital, Glasgow. Chinenye Vera Okonkwo, from Nigeria, was struck on St Vincent Street on Thursday, February 2. The 33-year-old was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Her heartbroken family released a touching tribute to their “passionate” loved one and said their lives will “never be the same” without her. They described Vera as a “wonderful, kind, intelligent young woman”. In a statement released via Police Scotland, her family said: “Chinenye was a wonderful, kind, intelligent young woman with a strong faith in God. She had a passion to succeed and whatever obstacles she faced were overcome. “She was very family-orientated and always had time for everyone. Our lives will never be the same without her.” According to reports, she died in a crash involving two cars around 7.40 pm last Thursday. The wife of a Nigerian pastor, Eze Kings, who lived in the USA – has died after being shot twelve times whilst behind the wheel of her car. Eze Kings’ wife, Eunice Dwumfour, was a New Jersey councilwoman prior to her demise, the New York Post reports. Dwumfour was gunned down outside her home on Wednesday, February 1st 2023. She was hit 12 times and died from multiple gunshot wounds. She also crashed her white Nissan SUV after being shot near the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex in Sayreville. New York Post wrote: “Dwumfour, 30, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds after her white Nissan SUV crashed near the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex in Sayreville, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed Thursday morning. “A male witness, who asked to remain anonymous, told The Post Thursday that Dwumfour’s car was hit with about 12 shots while traveling down Check Avenue toward Samuel Circle around 7:15 p.m. “The vehicle eventually came to a stop after crashing into two parked cars, including the witness’s black Lexus GS350.” “It took a second before I realized there was a dead body behind the wheel,” the witness explained. “She was slumped over the wheel with a black hoodie with brown fur covering her head, her hands were down by her side. There was one bullet hole in the passenger door and a bunch of bullet holes in the driver door. Four Nigerian men were arrested by Police in Thailand on Friday, February 3rd 2023 for overstaying their visas. Kenneth Chibuzo, 34, James Chinoyerem Onwuumyirimmadu, 30, Oliver Abazie Uchechukwu and Michael Arinze, 31, were arrested in the Muang district. The four were found to have overstayed their visas for three to four years. Chibuzo had overstayed his visa by 1,207 days, Onwumyirimmadu by 1,469 days, Uchechukwu by 1,221 days and Ejogu by 1,236 days. The suspects were arrested in different locations in tambon Chalong and tambon Rawai on Friday, the tourist police and immigration officers behind their incarceration revealed. The arrests occurred following a tip-off to police from Phuket residents that the four were acting suspiciously. They mostly rented houses in isolated places and seldom went out during the day or night. Apparently, some Thai locals had acted as brokers for the illegal immigrants, renting houses and delivering them food, presumably for a fee.
