In 2016, the AMCON took over assets belonging to the family of Ben Bruce, a former lawmaker, who represented Bayelsa east senatorial district.

The agency had alleged that Silverbird Group was indebted to the tune of N11 billion.

Other properties offered for sale are a warehouse and office block at No. 2, Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers.

“Development on site is a warehouse and office block located directly on Aba Road beside Isaac Boro Park fly-over. The property sits on a land size of 2,529.63 sqm,” the AMCON said.

“Development on site comprises two units of five-bedroom detached duplexes, two wings of four-bedroom semi-detached structures, a gatehouse, and a powerhouse. The property sits on a land size of 2360.32sqm,” the advert reads.

TravelUS To Recognise Only Civil Marriages For Asylum Seekers, Refugees Seeking Spousa by Morbeta11(op): 12:11pm On Jul 02, 2025
US to recognise only civil marriages for asylum seekers, refugees seeking spousal immigration

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced a major policy change that will take effect on July 3, 2025, affecting how it evaluates spousal applications tied to refugees and asylees.

Going forward, only legally registered civil marriages will be recognized for immigration benefits.

Religious, traditional, or customary unions will no longer qualify unless they are also formally registered under civil law.

We are updating guidance in the USCIS Policy Manual, Volume 4, on valid marriages between a principal asylee or principal refugee and their claimed spouse,” USCIS said.

All marriages… must be legally valid under the law of the jurisdiction where the marriage was celebrated.”

The new rule applies to all applications filed on or after July 3, 2025, and also to pending cases that haven’t been decided. The shift is expected to impact applicants from countries like Nigeria, Uganda, India, Afghanistan, and Somalia—where non-civil marriage practices are common.

Three groups will be most affected: refugees and asylees in the U.S. trying to reunite with spouses; spouses applying for immigration benefits based on marriage to a refugee or asylee; and applicants from countries where marriages are often not legally registered.

USCIS says the change aims to reduce fraud and ensure marriages used for immigration purposes are legally valid.

The agency also noted that the update aligns with Executive Orders 14148 and 14163, signed during the Trump administration to reform immigration policies.

Couples are now urged to obtain civil marriage certificates, even if they’ve had traditional or religious weddings.

USCIS recommends submitting government-issued marriage documents and supporting evidence such as proof of cohabitation, joint bank accounts, or shared children.

Politics2027 Crossfire: APC Strikes Back After Mark, Lamido Slam Tinubu Govt by Morbeta11(op): 8:20am On Jul 02, 2025
As the coalition meant to oust President Bola Tinubu from power gains momentum, the All Progressives Congress has asserted that the President will emerge victorious in the 2027 election.

APC spokesman, Bala Ibrahim, described the coalition, whose leaders met in Abuja on Tuesday, as “dead on arrival.”

Multiple sources within the coalition movement revealed their plans to adopt the African Democratic Congress as their political platform, confirming The PUNCH’s earlier exclusive reports.

This is as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and other figures within the Peoples Democratic Party, labelled the ruling APC a disaster to the nation.

“The APC government, which came into being on the false and evil propaganda to save Nigeria from PDP is now a disaster to our nation and therefore must be voted out of power,’’ the coalition members attacked the Tinubu administration in a communiqué issued after their meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

The statement, signed by David Mark, called on party members and Nigerians at large to support the emerging coalition aimed at defeating the APC in the 2027 presidential election.

In addition to Atiku and Lamido, other PDP stalwarts present at the meeting include former PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; former Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Dr Sam Egwu (Ebonyi).

Others in attendance are Senator Ben Obi, former PDP National Women Leader, Josephine Anenih; former National Organising Secretary Senator Austin Akobundu, ex-National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and former National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira, among others.

The Tinubu administration has come under severe censure over the economic and security challenges facing the country.

Ironically, the main opposition parties, including the PDP, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, and Social Democratic Party, have been battling internal divisions of their own.

In a move to mount a serious challenge ahead of the 2027 elections, former Vice President Atiku, LP’s Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and others unveiled a new political coalition in Abuja on March 20.

The development sparked widespread national discourse on the prospects of a unified opposition, drawing varied reactions from analysts and citizens alike.

For months, speculations surrounded the choice of a political platform for the coalition. But on May 19, The PUNCH exclusively reported that the coalition had officially adopted the African Democratic Congress as its political base.

Earlier, reports by Sunday PUNCH affirmed that the coalition has chosen the African Democratic Congress as its political platform and has selected Senator Mark to serve as interim chairman, with an official unveiling scheduled for Wednesday.

Rising from their meeting, the coalition issued a communique, which read,” The meeting encourages all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition.

“All coalition partners must be united on the issues of national unity, democracy, national security and national economy and the political will to stamp out corruption embedded in our institutions.

“The coalition partners to work out the modalities of winning all elections, taking into consideration local and national peculiarities.”

The communiqué stated that the gathering of Concerned PDP Leaders was convened to address the troubling state of the party.

The group expressed concern that since the party’s defeat in the last presidential election and the departure of Dr Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman, the PDP has struggled to regain its footing.

It added, “Vested interests from within and the irresponsible actions of the APC-led Federal Government, which has been using state institutions to stifle and destroy Democracy, know no bounds!

“The inability of PDP leadership to lead the party by its Constitution, rules and regulations led it into a chaotic and undisciplined Party!

“The vision of the founding fathers for which the party was established and the role it played in restoring Nigeria as stable and united country and key player on the regional, continental, and global stage has been washed away just as our roles as the leader of the black race is now overtaken by smaller and less endowed countries.”

Mark, Atiku, and other PDP leaders decried the current state of Nigeria, describing the nation as weakened and a source of embarrassment in the international community.

The coalition members added in the communique, “All indices of development that support the comfort and quality of life of the citizens have collapsed, and life is now hell in Nigeria.

“The PDP, which is organic with the discipline, capacity, and history to lead and save Nigeria, is now a shadow of its old self. The heat wave unleashed by the APC Federal government through threats, blackmail and patronage has forced elected officers in government to abandon the PDP.”

An insider privy to the decisions at the meeting informed The PUNCH that the majority of PDP leaders had decided to support the ADC candidate while retaining their PDP membership.

He[b] stated, “You see, in the meeting, we discussed the state of the PDP and how the party can no longer effectively lead the opposition.

“So, we resolved to form a personal alliance with the ADC. What this means is that some of us will remain in the PDP while working for the victory of the ADC presidential candidate.

“I can confirm to you that the ADC will be unveiled as the coalition’s political party platform tomorrow (today) here in Abuja. Some PDP leaders will defect, while others will remain in the party.”
[/b]
Attempts to reach the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the National Chairman, Umar Damagum, for responses were unsuccessful as they did not answer their calls as of the time of filing this report.

In response, APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, stated that the coalition members had been defeated in the past and expressed confidence that President Tinubu would defeat them collectively again in 2027.

He stated, “The fact that they are meeting in hotels or places at night without any fear means the APC government has improved the security situation of the country. It means the power system of the country has improved. It has improved so well that they don’t have any fear of insecurity, nor do they have any fear of power failure.

“The atmosphere provided by the APC administration for the freedom of association peacefully in itself is a pointer to the improvement.

“The government will continue to provide a favourable atmosphere for them to meet and discuss freely without any harassment, but they are not likely to give any fear or scare to the APC because they are dead on arrival.

“But the coalition is a waste of time. Is it dead on arrival? Yes. It’s dead on arrival. All of them are doing it for selfish reasons and not in the interest of Nigerians.

“I said the coalition is dead on arrival because it’s composed of people who were defeated politically, defeated ideologically, and they will be defeated again collectively in 2027 by our party’s candidate.”

Meanwhile, the senator representing Benue South, Abba Moro, described Tuesday’s meeting of leading opposition figures in Abuja as a gathering aimed at achieving a national purpose.

In an interview with The PUNCH, Moro, a member of the PDP, described the conveners of the meeting as elder statesmen.

He said, “These are senior and elder statesmen and political leaders in the country. I want to believe that they know what they are doing. I think this is part of the general trend in the country now, a season of alignment and realignment to achieve a political purpose.”

In a separate interview with our correspondent, PDP chieftain, Segun Sowunmi, stated that with the recent resolution of the crisis surrounding the position of the party’s National Secretary office, the road was clear for it to plan for the battle ahead.

Speaking on the meeting between Atiku and his associates, Sowunmi said, “It is their right to meet as many times as they like. The PDP is a party grounded on rules, procedures and history. Now that the PDP has resolved the issues of secretaryship, the party is now able to concentrate and let those who love to meander about keep doing their thing while the party plans.”

In a related development, the media aide to former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, Sola Fasure, backed Tuesday’s closed-door meeting between the ex-Vice President and prominent leaders of the PDP.

Reacting to the development, Fasure described the meeting as “a good indication of progress,” noting that it aligns with ongoing coalition efforts aimed at uniting opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general election.

“The information from the coalition is that Aregbesola is the coordinator for the South West. So, nothing has changed. You can see that the coalition is coalescing. They are still coming together,” he said.

Fasure also addressed the growing interest in Labour Party’s Peter Obi’s proposal for a single-term presidency, saying the idea resonates with many leaders in the emerging coalition.

Every individual have their own dream and aspiration. I think I heard Obi saying something about tackling the security crisis and strengthening the Nigerian economy and all that. There is no one in the coalition who doesn’t share that vision,” he stated.

He dismissed any notion of internal competition, emphasising that the coalition’s unity was rooted in shared values and common goals rather than personal ambition.

It is not a competition. What Obi said is what all of them equally subscribed to. So, none will disagree with the vision. Individual interest is also part of politics — you can’t take it out. Politics is actually an interaction of collective and individual interests,” he explained.

What we are witnessing is a realignment of forces to form a formidable opposition. You must have noticed that Tinubu has virtually destroyed the political party system in the country. Now, you really cannot tell which one is the ruling party or opposition.”

According to him, the current flux in the political space is part of a broader effort to establish a clear and functional opposition.

Everything going on now is about fashioning out a clear-cut opposition. It’s a fundamental rule of power. Let us see how it goes,” he added.

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, was optimistic about the coalition’s strength and direction.

“The coalition is still ongoing. We will tell Nigerians our position,” Lawal stated.

On Atiku’s meeting with PDP stakeholders, the ex-SGF declined to offer detailed comments, saying, “I don’t want to get involved in PDP affairs. I am not their party member and can’t speak for them. I am in Adamawa at the moment.”

He also reacted to Obi’s single tenure proposal, noting that it remains a political strategy that should ultimately be judged by the electorate.

“Politicians have their strategies and plans. It’s not an issue. Even Buhari, whom some expected to do just four years, ended up completing eight,” he remarked.

PoliticsBuhari Is Broke, Left Office With Integrity Intact, Says Garba Shehu by Morbeta11(op): 4:22pm On Jul 01, 2025
Buhari is broke, left office with his integrity intact because he did not collect any bribes, says Garba Shehu

Former President Muhammadu Buhari left office with his personal integrity intact as nobody can say he gave him a bribe, his Spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu said on Tuesday.

While insisting that Buhari is broke and does not have money, he also said the allegation that the former President does not have a certificate was a product of politics surrounding the 2015 election.

Addressing why Buhari doesn’t grant press interviews, Shehu said, “Buhari is one of the most voracious readers in Nigeria. He reads all Newspapers. He asks for Newspapers every morning. Buhari doesn’t speak to media because he wasn’t a showman and wanted his work to impact on the people.”

Shehu stated these in Abuja while fielding questions from journalists after a press conference to announce the public presentation of his 260-page book on July 9 titled, “According to The President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience.”

“Buhari is broke and does not have money. Since Buhari left office, no journalist has called me to say ‘we’re going to press’ and want my reaction. I now sleep very well.”

“The allegation over certificate was a product of politics surrounding the 2015 election”, Shehu said.

He said the book documents the rough and tough moments, and also provides reading material to students, practitioners and researchers on the lessons learned in many years of presidential communications.

Arise News reports that Garba was Spokesperson of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during the second tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo (2003-2007).

He said, “During his second term of office, President Obasanjo declared war on his vice president in a major crisis that sent threats – including the fear of death – flying around.

“At some point, the VP himself went underground as you would read it in the book. As the VP’s spokesman, the author chronicles his experiences as a principal officer in the Obasanjo presidency (Office of the Vice President) and his subsequent expulsion; his life as a person of interest to the security agencies, a detainee in the Department of State Service, DSS and the Kuje prison, and the story of his trial in the courts spanning over two years.”

He said the book brings lessons to media practitioners and politicians in their relationships with each other; how to work with the media, the society, the courts, and law enforcement agencies.

Shehu said, “I didn’t go there (controversy over alleged certificate issue) because it was a matter that had been resolved. Buhari was a product of politics and was cleared because the certificate was found. He was a military secretary. The allegation was a product of politics. Government College, Katsina was burnt. Some officers were punished for being used by politicians.

“People will see in due course whether Buhari did his best or not. History will be kind to Buhari. When he came in, the big issue for him was Boko Haram. Farmers and herders crisis has been an old crisis from colonial times. He did his best but some Governors don’t trust him.”

Foreign AffairsLiberian President Killed In Coup To Get State Funeral After 45 Years by Morbeta11(op): 12:57pm On Jul 01, 2025
Liberian president killed in coup to get state funeral after 45 years

Liberia's former President William Tolbert is set to receive a symbolic reburial on Tuesday, 45 years after he was murdered during a coup and his body believed to be dumped in a mass grave.

Ten days after the president's killing, following trials by a kangaroo court, 13 of his cabinet were stripped, tied to stakes and then executed by a firing squad on a beach next to an army barracks in the capital, Monrovia.

None of the 14 corpses has been found but each man is due to get a state funeral at a ceremony attended by President Joseph Boakai and other dignitaries.

The event is seen as an act of reconciliation and part of a process of the country coming to terms with its violent recent past.

The 12 April 1980 coup in which 28-year-old Sgt Samuel Doe took power ended well over a century of political dominance by the minority Americo-Liberians, the descendants of freed black slaves who had come from the US in the 1800s.

Tolbert's nine-year presidency was marked by growing dissatisfaction with the ethnic inequalities.

His overthrow came at the start of a period of instability in Liberia, culminating in two devastating civil wars, that finally ended in 2003.

Doe himself met a violent death at the hands of rebels in 1990. His reburial in his home town last week was also ordered by the president.

"This is not just a burial; it is a moment of national reflection, a time to reconcile with our history, to heal from our wounds, and to remember with respect and purpose," Boakai said at Doe's funeral.

For the families of those executed in 1980, Tuesday's ceremony is both an act of remembrance and a way of bringing some respect to those who died.

"It has been 45 years and the pain is still fresh," prominent lawyer Yvette Chesson-Gibson, daughter of executed Justice Minister Joseph Chesson, told the BBC.

She emphasised that Tuesday's reburials will be the start of a long-term process.

"This is not just a ceremony, it is the beginning of a closure. Reconciliation is not an event," she said.

"There are many facets to healing, but for us primarily this is just one of the many ways we continue to pay homage to deserving Liberian fallen heroes," Bindu Dennis, the daughter of Tolbert's Foreign Minister Charles Cecil Dennis, said.

"Our fathers were simply murdered in one of the world's most despicable and inhumane public acts of brutality, violence and cruelty born out of an ugly spirit of greed for political power.

"As long as you understand that closure doesn't mean forgetting, then we're on the same page."

Until now, the 14 people executed in 1980 have been remembered by a tombstone, bearing all their names, where former presidents have paid their respects each year.

However, when this was excavated earlier this year, no human remains were found.

The family of each person killed is set to be presented with a Liberian flag as a mark of their public service

Jarso Maley Jallah, the minister in charge of the reburial programme, told the BBC that "there are some things that have happened in our country that we're not proud of, but yet we are Liberians, and we must come together to advance our nation".

The family of each person killed is set to be presented with a Liberian flag as a mark of their public service and there will also be a 21-gun salute.

A Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was set up in 2006 by former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to gather testimonies about the atrocities committed during the conflicts.

In 2009 the TRC identified a list of people to be prosecuted for war crimes, but no action was taken. No-one has been tried in Liberia but some perpetrators have been convicted in other countries.

Last year Boakai signed an executive order aimed at setting up a special court.

PoliticsTambuwal Leads Sokoto, Kebbi PDP Into Coalition Bloc by Morbeta11(op): 11:59am On Jul 01, 2025
2027: Tambuwal leads Sokoto, Kebbi PDP into coalition bloc

The state chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto and Kebbi states have signified their intention to join any coalition to unseat the All Progressives Congress in 2027.

While the Sokoto PDP stakeholders, led by former governor, Aminu Tambuwal, announced that it was set to dump the party for the newly formed coalition political party, All Democratic Alliance, its Kebbi counterpart declared its readiness to align with any coalition or political alliance aimed at dislodging the APC at both the state and national levels.

The ADA is one of the 110 new political parties seeking registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In Sokoto, a source told The PUNCH that the decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the party would make its official position known to the public by Monday.

“We held a crucial meeting, and the major agenda was the merger into ADA. We’re putting final touches to the arrangement, and an official announcement is expected soon.

“I can assure you that any moment from now, we will make our decision known to the press for the general public,” the source said.

He further confirmed the presence of the National Organising Secretary of the party, Umar Bature; Tambuwal, state chairman of the party, Aliyu Goronyo, among other party members at the meeting.

When contacted, the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Hassan Sanyinnawal, confirmed the stakeholders’ meeting.

He however declined to make a comment on the adoption of any party.

According to him, “Yes we held a stakeholders meeting yesterday at the house of our leader, Senator Tambuwal.

“The meeting was just our normal stakeholders’ meeting which we usually do from time to time, so no cause for alarm.”

At a meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday, the PDP leaders in Kebbi State reaffirmed their commitment to rebuilding the party and offering a credible alternative to the APC.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, a party chieftain and elder statesman, Dr Ibrahim Mera, disclosed that Kebbi PDP had resolved to support all legitimate efforts to remove the APC from power.

“We are ready to collaborate with like-minded groups and political platforms committed to rescuing Nigeria from the hardship imposed by the APC-led government.

“We also agreed to fast-track preparations for the state congress, subject to the approval of the national leadership,” he said.

Mera stressed the party’s plan to strengthen its grassroots structures and mobilise wide support across the state ahead of future elections.

In his remarks, the state PDP Chairman, Usman Suru, urged citizens to remain resilient amid the prevailing economic hardship, assuring them that hope was on the horizon.

“We understand the pain our people are going through. The PDP is working to provide a better alternative that prioritises the welfare and security of all Nigerians,” he said.

The PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Kebbi State, Gen Aminu Bande (retd), took a swipe at the APC administration, accusing it of gross mismanagement and political intimidation.

“The current government in Kebbi State has resorted to witch-hunting opposition members through arbitrary arrests and harassment,”
he alleged.

CrimeSinaloa Cartel Hacked Security Cameras To Track And Kill FBI Informants, US Says by Morbeta11(op): 9:09pm On Jun 30, 2025
Sinaloa cartel hacked security cameras to track and kill FBI informants, US says

Hacker working for cartel run by Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was also able to access phone records of an FBI legal attaché at the US embassy in Mexico City

A hacker working for the Sinaloa drug cartel was able to obtain an FBI official’s phone records and use Mexico City’s surveillance cameras to help track and kill the agency’s informants in 2018, according to a new US justice department report.

The incident was disclosed in a justice department inspector general’s audit of the FBI’s efforts to mitigate the effects of “ubiquitous technical surveillance”, a term used to describe the global proliferation of cameras and the thriving trade in vast stores of communications, travel, and location data.

The report said that the hacker worked for the Sinaloa drug cartel, run by Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who was extradited to the United States in 2017.

The report said the hacker identified an FBI assistant legal attaché at the US embassy in Mexico City and was able to use the attaché’s phone number “to obtain calls made and received, as well as geolocation data”. The report said the hacker also “used Mexico City’s camera system to follow the [FBI official] through the city and identify people the [official] met with”.

The report said “the cartel used that information to intimidate and, in some instances, kill potential sources or cooperating witnesses”.

The report did not identify the alleged hacker, attaché or victims.

The US embassy in Mexico referred questions to the state and justice departments, who did not immediately return messages seeking comment. The FBI and a lawyer for Guzmán did not immediately return messages seeking comment.

The collection of granular location data from people’s phones by a wide variety of commercial and official actors, combined with ever-growing coverage of surveillance cameras, has posed a thorny problem for intelligence and law enforcement officials, many of whom rely on confidential informants.

The report said that recent technological advances “have made it easier than ever for less-sophisticated nations and criminal enterprises to identify and exploit vulnerabilities” in the global surveillance economy.

It said the FBI had a strategic plan in the works for mitigating those vulnerabilities and made several recommendations, including more training for bureau personnel.

And, contrary to what we might think, it is not a fossil or a literal skull, but rather a surreal landscape: the Trou au Natron. Also known as the Emi Koussi caldera, in Chad, which, seen from space, looked very much like a skull – but how would it be possible to find this skull then?

What is this glowing skull in this desert?
Okay, but what exactly is Trou au Natron? Well, this is a place in Chad that was once an active glacial lake full of life, but now it seems dead. In fact, researchers believe that Trou au Natron was a thriving lake until about 14,000 years ago, until the moisture in the region began to disappear. And what remains today is a dry, salty lakebed that glistens in the sun in the middle of the Sahara.

The most surprising thing of all is that, at first glance, the white, glowing summit of the Emi Koussi volcano appears to be covered in snow, which would clearly be something unlikely for a place in the Sahara desert. However, in the images captured by the astronauts, the white spot forms what appears to be the outline of a giant skull, with its shadows cast by the edges of the caldera creating the eye sockets. That’s why we think we’ve found a white, glowing skull.

However, this visual effect, impressive as it may be, is nothing more than the result of a combination of natural factors: the dry bed of an ancient salt lake and the deep topography of the volcanic caldera. The whiteness we see is caused by salt deposits accumulated after millennia of evaporation. And the dark eyes are the craters and depressions formed by past eruptions, which are now inactive.

How could there be water in the desert?
Well, NASA didn’t find any fossils or bones. But even so, the natural formation ended up being nicknamed a skull because of its striking appearance. It’s also worth mentioning that Emi Koussi is the highest peak in the Sahara Desert. It is 3,415 meters high. Its caldera, called Trou au Natron, reaches almost 745 meters deep and measures dozens of kilometers in diameter. It is worth mentioning that during the Ice Age, this place was filled with fresh water and ice, forming a glacial lake that supported life forms and influenced the local climate.

That’s where this discovery comes in, because traces of this humid past are still visible in the desert landscapes:

Erosion channels are carved by water.
Depressions are formed by runoff.
Saline sediments tell a story of slow and constant transformation.

Why is the discovery of this white glowing skull important to us?

Well, this discovery changes the way we see the Sahara Desert. After all, we imagined that this place was always dry and desolate, but what we see now is a geological palimpsest, which, going beyond technical terms, consists of all the layers of time, climate, and volcanic activity accumulated in natural formations – and which gave rise to the formation of our skull.

It is worth mentioning that the fact that Trou au Natron was a lake, back then, 14,000 years ago, is also fundamental. This means that the Sahara was once a place with much more humidity, vegetation, and perhaps even human occupation. In other words, it shows us that desertification is not eternal, but rather a phase. It is no wonder that experts are already thinking about creating a huge artificial lake in the desert.

Family"Nature’s Dark Secret: When Female Anacondas Eat Their Mates!" by Morbeta11(op): 12:15pm On Jun 27, 2025
"Nature’s Dark Secret: When Female Anacondas Eat Their Mates!"

When a female anaconda mates, there’s a 100% chance she’ll become pregnant. With this in mind, she often coils around the male after mating, kills him, and eventually eats him.

She does this to obtain protein, which gives her the strength she needs, especially since pregnant anacondas often fast for the entire duration of their pregnancy, which lasts around seven months.

The protein she gains from consuming the male early on is crucial, as about 30% of her body weight is devoted to producing offspring.

However:
This is not a guaranteed or universal behavior, not all mating encounters end in killing and consumption. Such behavior is relatively rare and difficult to observe in the wild, so most of what is known comes from limited field observations and a few studies.

The behavior of female anacondas eating their mates post-mating, as noted in the post, aligns with rare instances of sexual cannibalism observed in snakes, supported by a 2018 study in Behavioral Ecology showing nutrient demands during a seven-month gestation period drive this in 10-15% of mating encounters.

Contrary to common assumptions, this cannibalistic behavior is not universal, with field observations from the Amazon Basin (e.g., a 2020 Journal of Herpetology report) indicating it occurs sporadically, influenced by food scarcity rather than a fixed reproductive strategy.

Historical accounts from indigenous South American communities, combined with recent DNA analysis, suggest anacondas may use this protein boost to support live births of up to 40 offspring, challenging the narrative that it’s purely aggressive or maladaptive.

Crime2-Year-Old Boy In coma As Passenger Throws Him to the floor at Moscow airport by Morbeta11(op): 11:27am On Jun 25, 2025
Boy, two, 'in a coma' after passenger throws him to the floor in airport lounge

The boy is now fighting for his life in a coma with serious skull fractures and spinal injuries

The child had arrived in Russia after he and his mother fled the bombing in Iran, say reports.

The tourist - identified as Vladimir Vitkov, 31, from Belarus - is seen on security footage looking closely at the boy who is next to his suitcase.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GKUv6Rxoc0?si=_mnacY3f8qmEVgoj

The attacker - described as a 'monster' by a Russian official - apparently checks to see if anyone is watching and then suddenly grabs the child, throwing him hard on the floor in the arrivals section of Sheremetyevo airport.

A man came running to scoop up the gravely wounded boy.

The attack happened as the boy's pregnant mother was collecting his pushchair after their flight's arrival.

Police are examining if there was a racist or other motivation for the act against the child.

Appalling footage shows the moment a male tourist suddenly picks up and hurls a helpless 18-month-old boy head first on the ground in the arrivals hall of a Moscow airport

His family had fled Iran via a tortuous route through Afghanistan and had just arrived in Russia, said reports.

The suspect had reportedly flown to Moscow from Cyprus or Egypt.

He was rapidly taken into custody after the incident, amid suspicions he was under the influence of drugs.

Moscow Region Children's Ombudswoman Ksenia Mishonova said: 'A drug-addled monster grabbed a toddler in the arrivals hall and threw him on the floor with all his might. All this is incredibly difficult to bear.

'I hope the detained monster will receive the full severity of the law. I wish the child a speedy recovery. May the parents have the strength to survive this.'

Traces of cannabis were found in the suspect's blood, according to reports citing the Russian Investigative Committee.

Other reports say drugs were found in his possession.

He was described as incapable of explaining his actions.

He was rapidly taken into custody after the incident, amid suspicions he was under the influence of drugs. The suspect is under investigation for attempted murder. Pictured: Vitkov, being arrested

He was asked by officers if he had been in trouble with the police before and replied: 'I made mistakes like that.'

Vitkov has a daughter the same age as the boy thrown to the ground, said reports.

A female friend was 'in shock' from his alleged actions.

The suspect is under investigation for attempted murder.

The committee said: 'A man, while in the airport arrivals area in a state of drug intoxication, grabbed a child and, lifting him, threw him to the floor with considerable force.

'The boy was hospitalised in a medical facility for assistance.

'The man's criminal actions were stopped by eyewitnesses of the incident.'

The incident occurred shortly before midnight in the departure lounge yesterday.

Sheremetyevo International Airport is the busiest in Russia, handling more than 40 million passengers and over 300,000 aircraft per year.

Science/TechnologyEarth Could Be Ejected Out Of The Solar System, Study Warns by Morbeta11(op): 4:48pm On Jun 24, 2025
Earth Could Be Ejected Out Of The Solar System, Study Warns

A passing star could change the solar system.

Earth could be thrown off its orbit and flung into another planet or the Sun, a new study has warned. Passing stars could be the orchestrator of this cosmic instability which could jeopardise our planet's health, much before the Sun annihilates it in five billion years as a red giant.

Based on thousands of computer simulations, the study published in the journal Icarus, states that there is a chance that a passing field star -- a type of star that appears in the same region of the sky as another object being studied-- could cause more havoc than previously estimated.

A star with mass comparable to our Sun passing within 10,000 astronomical units could significantly disrupt the Oort Cloud, which marks the outer boundary of our solar system beyond Pluto.

"Passing stars are the most probable instability trigger during the next four billion years," the study highlighted, adding that planets in the solar system, as well as Pluto, were significantly less stable than previously thought.

“Our simulations indicate that isolated models of the solar system can underestimate the degree of our giant planets' future secular orbital changes by over an order of magnitude. In addition, our planets and Pluto are significantly less stable than previously thought,” Nathan Kaib and Sean Raymond, a pair of astronomers, wrote in May.

The gravitational tug due to these stars could increase the risk of instability for Mercury by 50-80 per cent, and there is a five per cent chance of chaotic gravitational interactions for Pluto over five billion years.

“We also find an approximately 0.3 percent chance that Mars will be lost through collision or ejection and an approximately 0.2 percent probability that Earth will be involved in a planetary collision or ejected,” the researchers stated.

In the event of Mercury's orbit being changed by the passing star, the resulting chaos could cause Venus or Mars to crash into Earth. In other instances, Earth might crash into the Sun, or Venus and Mars might fling Earth towards Jupiter. Afterwards, the giant planet's gravity ejects Earth from the solar system.

Post from X account of @ChucksEricE
A Nigerian socialite Cubana Chief Priest (real name Pascal Okechukwu) has filed defamation lawsuit against a Kenyan woman named Hellen. The legal action stems from Hellen's public accusation that Cubana Chief Priest is the father of her child. The post includes two images: one showing Cubana Chief Priest, Hellen, and a child (implying a family connection), and another displaying a legal document from the High Court of Kenya in Nairobi. The document details a motion under Sections 1A, 1B, and 3A of the Civil Procedure Act and Order 40 of the Rules, seeking to restrain Hellen from making further defamatory statements or sharing related content on social media. Notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has reportedly ordered residents of Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State to drain a dam in their community or face brutal consequences. This was revealed in a post by security analyst, Bakatsine, on X on Monday.

According to the post, Turji issued the warning to villagers after claiming that the dam was affecting his group’s movement in the area.

Bandit kingpin Bello Turji has vowed to force villagers in Isa LGA, Sokoto State to drain their dam, warning of brutal consequences for defiance. How is a terrorist bragging like a ruler?,” Bakatsine wrote.

CrimePastor Amos Isah Arrested For Rape Accusation Of 14-Year-Old Girl by Morbeta11(op): 7:41am On Jun 24, 2025
Abuja Pastor Amos Isah In Police Custody Over Alleged Rape Of 14-Year-Old Girl

Amos Isah, the founder and lead pastor of Prophetic Victory Voice of Fire Ministry in Gwagwalada, Abuja, has been arrested and detained by the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) over allegations of raping a 14-year-old girl.

The arrest, which took place last week, has sent shockwaves through the community, as Pastor Isah was known for his charismatic sermons and claims of divine power.

His church, located behind Noble Noel Academy, opposite the Gwagwalada Market in Abuja, has been a centre of worship for many residents.

A review of his Facebook page by SaharaReporters shows that Isah frequently posts messages on holiness and moral uprightness.

Checks by SaharaReporters revealed that the last service conducted by the cleric at his church took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

The following day, June 19, a service was held at the church, but Pastor Isah was notably absent from the pulpit.

On his Facebook page, Pastor Isah’s intro is that the “purposes of this page is (sic) to touch lives as the Holy spirit leads because God has given me power.”

On June 15, Father’s Day, he posted on Facebook, “Dear God, thank you for the gift of fatherhood. We pray for all fathers and those hoping to become fathers. May You give them the strength to be a vessel of Your love. HAPPY FATHER'S DAY.”

In a post on June 11, he said, “The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1, NASB). We need the Holy Spirit's help any time we stand up for Jesus; it is His strength that we must lean on. We need His boldness and courage to be light in a dark world if we are to be a mouthpiece for Him.”

However, authorities exclusively told SaharaReporters that he abused his spiritual influence to exploit a minor.

Sources within the FCID confirm that the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was allegedly sexually assaulted by Isah, leading to his arrest.

Attempts to reach the cleric for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls to his mobile phone.

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters gathered that some police officers have allegedly been working behind the scenes to shield the pastor and prevent his name from being made public.

Investigators are reportedly handling the case with a level of secrecy due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and the suspect’s standing as a religious leader.

Khamenei names three senior clerics as possible replacements should he be killed-Report

Khamenei has made a selection of replacements down his chain of military command in case more of his lieutenants are killed, according to the report.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has named three senior clerics as candidates to succeed him should he be killed during the ongoing conflict with Israel, The New York Times reported on Saturday.

The New York Times also wrote that he has also made the "unusual decision" to instruct Iran's Assembly of Experts, which is tasked with appointing a supreme leader, to choose his successor from the three names he provided.

Khamenei has made a selection of replacements down his chain of military command in case more of his lieutenants are killed, according to the report.

Top Iranian officials are also reportedly quietly making preparations for a wide range of outcomes as the war continues, including the possible entry of the US into the fray.

Talks about who would succeed Khamenei as Iran's leader were held confidentially by diplomats from Europe and the United States, speaking theoretically about a scenario where the Islamic Republic would collapse, CBS News learned on Friday.

The diplomats had also discussed whether Iranian nuclear sites could be secured, and the environmental consequences for their allies in the region as a result of attacking nuclear facilities like Fordow.

Khamenei has been hiding since Israel's exchange of missiles with Iran broke out one week ago, with US President Donald Trump saying on Tuesday that the US knows exactly where he is. The Iranian leader is also believed to be battling cancer, the report noted, and cited an assessment by US intelligence that concluded Khamenei hasn't resumed his country's nuclear weapons program, which halted operations in 2003.

International calls and internet connection in Iran have notably weakened due to the current conflict, CBS cited regional sources as saying, adding that diplomats have raised complaints that arranging meetings with Abbas Araghchi, the country's foreign affairs minister, has become more difficult. Khamenei is also reportedly concerned about communicating with other officials due to concerns of signal interception to reveal his location, the report added.

These reports come shortly after Araghchi met with European counterparts in Geneva the same day, in a meeting that lasted twice as long as expected, CBS reported.

A nuclear program for civilian purposes?
The US proposal on the table includes a framework where Iran would be able to operate a civilian nuclear program only, without enrichment of uranium, while purchasing nuclear fuel from other countries.
One of the options being considered includes an Omani initiative to establish a regional consortium under IAEA and US supervision "that would allow enrichment for civilian purposes," the report noted.

TravelNigeria Ranks 7th Among World’s Friendliest Countries To Strangers [full List] by Morbeta11(op): 12:32pm On Jun 21, 2025
Nigeria ranks 7th among world’s friendliest countries to strangers [Full List]

Nigeria has been ranked 7th among the world’s friendliest countries to strangers, according to the UN’s 2025 World Happiness Report.

The annual report, produced by the University of Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Centre in partnership with Gallup and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, evaluates 147 countries on self-reported well-being and prosocial behaviours such as donating, volunteering, and helping others.

Despite ranking high for acts of spontaneous kindness, Nigeria placed 105th overall in happiness, reflecting poor life satisfaction and systemic shortcomings.

The report noted a clear gap between informal generosity and institutional trust: a pattern seen across several African countries.

When asked about the likelihood of a lost wallet being returned, Nigeria ranked 33rd if found by a stranger, 71st if found by a neighbour, and 126th if found by the police, underscoring the country’s weak confidence in law enforcement and public systems.

According to the report, such dynamics are common in countries with fragile institutions.

“Where institutional structures are weak, helping strangers likely becomes the most direct and effective form of benevolence,” it stated.

Other countries with similar patterns, according to their ranking, include:

Jamaica
Liberia
Trinidad
Kenya
Sierra Leone
Senegal
Nigeria
Venezuela
Ukraine
Zambia

While Nigeria also ranked 45th for charitable donations, the preference appears to lean toward direct, person-to-person support over formal giving.
