Education / The Problem With 3rd Class Degree! by morewat: 11:42am On Feb 22, 2013
I graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University with 3rd class in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Not that I was not a brilliant person, I left school without obtaining leave of absence for two semesters due to one reason or the other and my CGPA was divided twice with 16 units! Since then I have been struggling to go back to school. I acquired some professional qualification like (CCNA,CCNP). I did my postgraduate diploma (statistics) at University of Ibadan. Unfortunately, it was when I completed the PGD that I got to know that there is a policy against 3rd class for academic masters (UI) despite the fact that I passed very well (67%). I am currently working as a Project Manager in a language technology company at ibadan.
My ambition is to study to PHD level. Please, I need advice on what to do. Actually, I want my phd to be in computational linguistics and I know that statistics is one of the basis with my engineering background. Please help!

Do you know must of us on nairaland here are priviledge people! We are priviledge one way or the other, to be educated, to be born by parent that are responsible,.... Do you know most of the bus conductors if given the priviledge we have will perform better? You can only manage what exists no matter how small, what of if there is nothing to manage? I believe poverty and riches are matter of choice when there is opportunity, if there is no opportunity at all especially at the early stage of one's life, it can only be changed through luck and divine intervention. So, some of us that have opportunity and hold on to that opportunity should not see other as fools!

Properties / Tributes To Notable Nairaland Builders! by morewat: 1:49pm On Mar 21, 2012
Let's give honor to whom honor is due. There are some notable builders that have really affected life of many people in this forum positively. By sharing there experience, answering questions and enlighten people on what it takes to have a roof over oneself. Though, individual style and taste differs. My heroes in this regard are
Am Alone - Confident, believes in high quality job, high taste
Brabus - Always appreciate other people's work/project, ready to learn from others, acountability
Spyder880 - high level of accountability, avoid wastage of materials, and calculative

I know there are lots of them on nairaland. Who is your hero in this regard and what is unique about him?

@26. Uchmonia(m):

MY brother you have heard it from andyanders what he said it the only fact, you don't need to make troble to avoid you children not to suffer it in the future. All you have to do is to go to his/her and sort things out with him ok.and pray to God to give you the power to over come the chalenges

You are right my brother. The best advice is to meet your neighbor and sort out some things. Eventually it will bring mutual respect. This is the problem we are having in our environment now. The children of one house can not go to their neighbors' house because of one boundary dispute or the other that was not handled very well. Now the landlord association is in factions, some people can not work with others and it is affecting the development of the area. Despite the fact that the environment has a good location. Some of us are now planning to leave because there is no love among the neigbours and the children are inheriting the hatred. PLEASE DON'T ALLOW HATRED TO START BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR NEIGHBOR, WE NEED EACH OTHER ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

Politics / Re: Buhari - Nigeria's Head of State 1983-1985 by morewat: 1:45pm On Feb 10, 2012
Reference:

The way this thing will work is this. We, Nigerians will bludgeon ourselves to death with ethnicity, corruption and religious bigotry until we get tired. When we get tired of these things we will sort ourselves out. Any attempt to seperate this fight is an exercise in futility. Even if Buhari comes and by some miracle reduces corruption to zero. Will he rule for ever. When he leaves won't we come back to eat from our potty. Didn't we return to the dump when he was kicked out of government. My guy some people were rejoicing then. Not everyone sees this thing the way you do. Unfortunately you have to live with them.

You are quite right bros. I think what we are examine here, i stand to be corrected, is to use the past record to predict what a person can do. Unfortunately i dont know much about Buhari and i am eager to know his past record irrespective of his religion or ethnicity!
Reference:

Why use military antecedents to sell a civilian. ,

I remain unchanged in my view. This country can only be fundamentally changed by the people of this country and not any individual. Every other move will merely be placative whether against corruption, ethnic bigotry or others. When we get tired and fed up of fighting one another we will call into being the kind of system that will bring us into the 21st century. Forget hero worship. It doesn't work. Nigeria is too complex for one man alone to handle.

My bros, an individual can do a lot and make a lot of differences either negatively or positively when chosen as a leader. A very good example is Nelson Mandela of South Africa. While in prison he read a lot of books about white men and discovered that they were afraid of the black's ruling and refused to give the black a chance to govern because they believe the black will not be fair with them if given chance to rule. Therefore, while mandela came out of prison and became the president he convinced many black organization and let them know that  his government is for both black and  white he said "I am your leader, give me a chance to lead you". The blacks thought that his government will dissociate itself from the white. That single steps he took changed the history of South Africa today!
We need a leader of integrity, that can lead by example,  that is fearless of the nigerian cabal. General Buhari is in that category!
I will be disappointed in him any moment i have evidence that he has been indited of corruption.

I like the poster of this thread. I am a Yoruba man and I believe in learning through evidence. Most of us were not in the mainstream of politics at the time of Buhari's regime. We based most of what we are saying about that General on hearsay. As @GenBuhari is throwing more light on the past of the regime with evidence, he should be encouraged whether he is an advocate of Buhari or not. As for those people that are saying military intervention is illegal, they are right. But probably they don't understand that military are the last hope for a nation when there is a state of anarchy. Is it not better for the military to take over syrian government from the civilian now to maintain peace and safe lives?

Mr Spyder, I must commend you for a good job! I have been a silent follower of almost all your threads:
The real cost of building 6 bedroom duplex
The real cost of building 6 bedroom duplex (reloaded)
Roofing of 4 bedroom bungalow with gate house (pictures)
The business and profitability of rental business
Building 5 bedroom executive duplex in Enugu
Royal duplex in Anambra
The technology of block making
Department of interior decorations
Security doors and protectors
Designed pillars, interlocking stones etc
Fence and gates in pictures and prices
Reality building of 4 bedroom bungalow e.t.c  So when i say you have done a good job am not saying what i dont know because i have equally compare your method of building with the likes of Am alone, Brabus and other notable nairaland builders. I have just two questions to ask on this on-going project. Firstly, i discovered that 6" block was used for the foundation but you are now having 9" blocks on ground (almost 700 according to you) can you please explain why. Secondly, you told us that over 700 blocks was made from 17 bags of cement. On the average how many quality blocks can be made from 1 bag of cement? Thanks

Politics / G.O.C (with His Men) Left A Scene Of Elite's Protest In Shame (Ibadan) by morewat: 1:58pm On Jan 13, 2012
The officer commanding the second mechanized division in ibadan yesterday ran into anti  subsidy removal protesters at New Bodija in Ibadan. The protest was organized in a matured way. Tyre were not burnt but a music session was organized and various speakers were educating others on the ploy of government to widen the gap between the poor and the rich. On seeing the orderliness and maturity of the people in this area, the G.O.C said he was instructed to clear all roads so that people can move freely. In his words, Dr Tunde Adegbola, one of the residents, told the G.O.C and his men that New Bodija has the highest number of retired professors as residents in Africa, therefore, he should know that these are people that know their right, law abiding and enlightened. No Tyre was burnt and no road was blocked. G.O.C turned back and enter his car.

Romance / Re: Unmarried Ladies Out There: Do You Want To Get Married? by morewat: 6:35pm On Jan 10, 2012
Marriage is a good thing when you have the right partner. I am a married man. Ordinarily, I understand the reason why some ladies are running away from marriage. Most times, it is due to their experience with men, loving the wrong person. But two good heads are better than one. My advice for them is not to be too desperate since most men always use that as an opportunity to maltreat ladies. Open your eyes and if you dont have what you are looking for, it is better to remain single than to be in sorrow for the rest of one's life!
Politics / Re: Oil Marketers Paid Labaru Maku To Protest Fuel Subsidy Removal by morewat: 1:11pm On Jan 09, 2012
This is  to tell us that most of our leaders have doubtful characters right from their childhood days. Someone who collected bribe to protest against a decision without following his own mind right from his university days (obviously more than 17 years then) now a leader, what do you expect, he has no mind of his own. That is our problem. I am very sure, the next statement you will hear from him if he fall out of favor with this regime is that he was not acting his mind!
Politics / Re: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Al-Jazeera Interview On Fuel Subsidy Removal by morewat: 1:09pm On Jan 09, 2012
The problem is that this government is saying the right thing but it has a very bad implementation. What i understand about this what they are saying is that they want to allow market forces to (demand and supply) to rule oil sector in Nigeria. But the present state of deregulation which is putting a fixed price on any particular commodity against its cost of production (which does not allow for any profit making) is discouraging people (investors) from investing in refineries instead the investors will buy at regulated price here and smuggle it out and sell it at a price that is higher than that of Nigeria. However, if it is deregulated, with time there will be competition in terms of quality and quantity among the investors and the price will be forced to the minimum especially if it is being refined in nigeria. But people will have to be educated, enlightened and convinced because it will initially bring hardship.

Politics / Re: Jang: Only Haters Of Nigeria, Economic Recovery Oppose Subsidy Removal by morewat: 9:44pm On Jan 06, 2012
Well, it is not surprising that most of our governors will support subsidy removal. They can not think alternative way to generate revenue except a readily available oil money. Once the subsidy is removed, they will have more money to share. Don't you think if the fuel is sold for one thousand naira, men like jang will be able to afford it? The burden is on the masses. We are actually subsidizing the incompetence of our leaders!
