Anyone else having network inconsistency?

I get 40Mbps and then it jumps to 5Mbps and sometimes even 700Kbps and then settles at 30 or 20 Mbps. This has affected streaming massively as it buffers alot. This has been happening over the past few days.

Prior to this, I was getting consistent 50+ Mbps even during evening hours when the network usually goes kinda bad.
I observed this for a long now it really messed up my streaming experience

This is on my odu router
My unlimited sub finished
Then i did normal 3k 10gb
This thing is VERY fast if you avoid capped unlimited bundles
You're on 5G right but sometimes i wonder why normal data will be fast while the unlimited server will too slow

Please o, is this thing truly unlimited? Or does it have the Fair Usage Policy? Because I think mine is capped at 1TB. Since yesterday, my network has been annoyingly slow. It has been running at 200kb/s since morning till today.
Airtel advertised it as true unlimited with no fup but they think people can't use pass 1TB so they capped it around that mark secretly. What they're doing is illegal because they're required to state that you are getting 20Mbps at 1TB and throttled to 200Kbps after 1TB

Unfortunately, the resources dedicated to Africa by Starlink isn't much compared to Europe, Americas and other parts of the world. TBH, it's understandable given the difference in what we pay.

The good thing about Starlink is, there's virtually no downtime. It becomes quite slow during daytime, but still works.
If you're in the remote part of North you don't even experience that slow network during the day it's just flawless

Yes. That's why I assumed they can connect automatically to 2.4 when devices move away from the source.
It can it usually does that as long as you set it to connect automatically when in range
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by morikee: 10:07am On Oct 27, 2025
NSEstudent:
I think what the single SSID means is that devices which are capable of connecting via 5GHz connect to it while others who only connect to 2.GHz also connect to that one. That's how I use my X25 currently.

I don't think it has any advantage other than having a uniform name for the wifi signal. Perhaps it might be that it switches automatically to 2.4GHz if a connected and compatible device moves farther away from the router.

If it makes a router malfunction, that's absurd as well. But it's not uncommon for some settings to trigger bugs in poorly written software.
No the 2.4Ghz has longer range but it's slower while the 5Ghz is shorter range but has faster bandwidth and more immune to interference from other devices
PhonesRe: Airtel Unlimited Data Thread! Best Data Plan In 2024!! by morikee: 8:17am On Oct 27, 2025
Rokynwastar:
Try disabling Single SSID and see if it helps.

When this is enabled, 2.4GHz and 5.0,GHz sometimes get to toggle between each especially when the network is bad.

Disable and connect to either one of them.
I no dey use Single SSID i always split between 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz so i only use 2.4Ghz if I'm far away

Airtel is so unreliable. For about 2 days no network all through the day. Zero signal but I'm able to pick up some for very light browsing (unreliable)
Now even at midnight hours I'm not getting beyond 28Mbps. Terrible stuff. Might have to activate my Starlink finally. It's so sad that 9ja networks aren't reliable.
Exactly I no dey see 50mbps again even for night na around 20 highest
