Dear brother,

While I strongly agree with you that certificate issues should be irrelevant, the real issue over the certificate isn't the certificate itself but the guideline surrounding his eligibility. The problem is the constitution that provides the premise for eligibility.

While Buhari might speak fluently, that is not to say his enlightenment is also commensurate however, more than that, when it comes to an ambition like his and the premises or prerequisite to obtainin his goal, the conditions are clear and it is not determined by fluency or enlightenment. The condition says anyone viein for presidency must atleast have a wassce certificate. Not an affidavit or a statement of result or any other equivalent. I will give a simple analogy. Let's say you applied for a job and after fulfilling almost all the process, and you are finally required to submit your certificate and you went to bring a statement or to whom? The norm is to put you on hold to you are able to present the required certificate. That is what happens. And should you fail to do that on time, your place will be given to someone who already has all that and available. In a case, where the company compromise and decide to take you up probably cos one, you are the only eligible candidate so far and they need you, it will be at a compromised compensation at your detriment should you fail to meet up. Two is by vetting but we all know that no matter how brilliant you are, if you don't that certificate and there others who fulfill that requirement, your spot is as good as gone and we know this. If you like, be smarter than Isaac Newton but that's what it is.

So Buhari's case is clear but cos of sentiments and misleading tricks of the opposition, we defend what is not.

However, more than that, besides the certificate issue is his company which I will never trust or commit the date of Nigerians into. There is a saying, show me your friend and I will tell you who you are. Buhari has shown his alliance, and that makes it easy to know where he is goin to fall and I need not be told to kick against it.

Back to the matter, while not having a certificate isn't a problem as we have seen successful people all over the world who don't have it, however, to run for the presidency of the federal republic of Nigeria, it is a perquisite and thus shouldn't be compromised. How unfortunate but that's what it is. The constitution can be amended later to make it more open but pending that time, Buhari still has questions to answer regarding his certificate
i was reading nd u started going offkey with ur Job analysis which does not equate cos dangote hv no certificate, also u said the law does not ask for affidavit, then u know nothing about the law. As for the rest, its meaninless.

The op and his phantom friend are goons trying to play on the intelligence of Nigerians forgetting that we are smarter than him and his sponsors. The post is a wasted effort which can be believed only by dimwits.
1) The requirement came onboard for this election as a direct consequence of constitution amendment after 2011 elections.
2) The op claimed something - certificate issue - was missing. Yes it must be missing because all the interviews were desperate publicity stunts paid for by APC to douse the effect of the certificate
scandal and whoever pays the piper dictates the tune. In this case, the APC wrote the questions to be asked like a paid advert. WYSYWYG. We are not deceived.
3) The op also claimed that Buhari sat for the cambridge WAEC exams. Why can't he request for the certificate if that was true ?
4) I put it to you that the certificate scandal, bad records and instigating utterances credited to him were some of the issues that scared Buhari away from nigerian debates because the questions could not be doctored.
Just wht the Op said the Nigerian media doe not know where to draw the line.

Each time I read the arguments on the Buhari certificate issue, it leaves my mouth gaping in awe of how little the so-called educated Nigerians calling for his head are.

One of such arguments was that his recent photograph was used instead of the one submitted 1961 and I'm like how many government ministries or MDAs or private institutions can boast of having kept intact filed records dated as recent as 1990?

Another argument was his having passed the language Igbo with A1 (distinction) ...this is even more funny cause on the same result where he got other grades, the grade description was written beside it, why was that of the Igbo language not so updated? Simple ...as a rule, the issuing school strike the subjects not registered for with a pipe-like strike '|' so as to prevent alteration or addition of such subjects fraudulently.

Lets talk about the 20 struck out and replaced with '19' ...haba naaa! So because I sat for an exam in the 20th Century, my principal should start looking for the Statement of Result booklet or sheet for that period because we are now in the 21st Century? undecided

As if that one nor do, the talk of WAEC having in their custody Cambridge certificates undecided hmmm ....though setup in 1952, the body conducts exams on behalf of International Exam bodies such as University of Cambridge, London and even JAMB BUT they do not issue the certificates on behalf of such bodies ....that was the case with Buhari's own. He did not sit for WAEC GCE BUT Cambridge GCE undecided

Assuming he did not pass his school certificate exams, do you know that by virtue of attending institutions such as the US War College, it also served as some form of education?

Last but not the least ...the questioning of his joining the army using a letter of recommendation issued by his principal in lieu of his school certificate result ...let me ask how many of you here applied to sit for JAMB without using the 'Awaiting Result' option?

Yes we all had to update our files with the results when it was released but that was because we were not posted out of our school location or environment unlike the Army where you are posted out for training and getting the 'PASS' to leave the barracks is usually unheard of especially during that period when Nigeria just got independence and was trying to transition from the Royal Army to Nigerian Army.

The bottom line here is that we all claim to be 'too' educated and looking for well educated leaders ...but tell me how many of the retired soldiers have you seen ranting about like the well educated Fani Kayode grin who doesn't use his sense of reasoning before making a comment?
coming from a woman? At a time wen many women ar bandwagons. I hv hope of marrying an intelligent woman.

Rating our economy as one that is fast growing is to their advantage and to whoever is thinking of investing in any any viable economy, dat is our achievement and nobody needs to feel fly about that....of course we are prouda that, they are only testifiers. So Because Buhari was once in the military and attained the rank of a General,we should overlook his shortcomings? Be true to yourself pls, would you for any reason, employ any applicant into your organization based on the fact that he can read, write and speak english; if you were an employer of labour? Would you? This same Buhari was one leader who remarkably, frustrated the efforts of Journalists in publishing articles concerning his government, he literally OPPRESSED the press and made sure they did not say anything that could dent his government @ dat time. Is it this kind of treatment you want? Today is better than yesterday and our tomorrow should be better than today, thatz what we want, its what we pray for. If Buhari has any integrity @ all, he should tender the originals of his credentials. If Barack Obama could show Americans his birth certificate just to protect his integrity and his ambition, I see no reason why Buhari cannot present his WAEC result. Let's be reasonable.
yes i can employ one without WAEC result if he/she show high level of intelligence nd skills. I dnt belive in certificate bt wht u can offer. The 9yr old going for Phd comes to mind.

@OP, am sorry but I don't think you know what you are saying. The governance of any government rests on the foundation of 'The Constitution' and every department has its own constitution. Why should you be comparing our media with that of the US and co, who's telling you those guys give a heck of what goes on in this country, infact they even predicted the failure of Nigeria in this year....Let me refresh your memory incase you may have forgotten or maybe you are not aware..President Barack Obama , when he was campaigning to for his 1st term, doubts and suspiscion were raised concerning his age, He had to present his 'BIRTH CERTIFICATE' to clear all doubts concerning the age he was claiming and that dashed all doubts and he moved on. IS BUHARI ABOVE THE LAW? Eh, Mr man? Is he? Why is he so full of himself? This same Americans refused selling ammunitions to us and they also failed in their bid to assist us rescue the Chibok Girls and you are here using them as reference.

According to the INEC's constituition, Candidates are required to present a WAEC result as a minimum requirement, what is wrong in asking a candidate whether what INEC said was true concerning his refusal to submit his certificate? You should commend them rather than castigate them. They are doing wonderfully well and we are proud of them. Atleast am better informed now than when Buhari was head of state.

Leave Americans out of our issues, they don't care about us.
but if they were praising this govt u will accept it nd feel fly.

Simple. Maybe you were a baby in Buhar's regime. So you knowledge of it is what you were told.

Oputa panel was to address human right abuses by dictators during the 80s & 90s.

Appearing would have given answers to the families of Buhari's victims like the Owohs, the Ogedengbes and so on. Who Buhari killed their son using retro-active decrees.

But he refused to be accountable. The same way he has refused to come out and show his certificate and demonstrate that he is above board. When Obama's detractors (like Donald Trump) spread rumours that he wasn't born in the USA (as ridiculous as the rumour was), he released his Hawaii-issued birth certicicate.

That's what statesmen do. Show respect to the public, supporters and detractors alike.
what has it got to do with the write up? tell me.

Don't mind the OP posing as a pseudo-intellectual.

The issue of how to qualify for an elective position in our country is not a matter of US, British or Qatari law. So, CNN, BBC or Aljazeera won't care. They wouldn't even fathom an unqualified candidate going through electoral commision screening successfully. But nothing is impossible in Nigeria.

Rest assured that they (foreign media) would gleefully use it to mock us if it turns out that GMB actually committed perjury by lying under solemn oath of affidavit or wasn't qualified. Refusal to come out and clear the certificate issue demonstrates his aloof disposition and disdain for rule of law, accountabilty or criticism or diverse opinions. The exact reasons his subordinates gave for overthrowing him in 1985.

If Buhari had been suspected of breaching their own (foreign) law, that would be their first question. Don't forget they still see us as a people who just cannot get their acts together.

GMB's refusal to appear at OPUTA PANEL would, in a sane country, render him perpetually unelectable in the eyes of the public.
But in 9ja, we don't know our right from our left.

Even this OP, an under-50 I suppose, still doesn't believe that integrity is paramount. That the onus is on a condidate to comply with every law, irrespective of status, position or whatever.
what has his writeup got to do with Oputa Panel?

–Journalism should come with Professionalism–

When the Buhari certificate saga began, i followed every bit of the news from all corners of news media in Nigeria. The Nigerian media realy showed that their profeesional take on some issues still need to be reviewed. The rate at which some of them stoop so low to give attention to some mischief makers needs a second look. Also, many capitalised on the undue attention given to them to continue pressing for something that they know does not answer the Nigerian question.

As we speak, there about 10 cases in court on the said certificate saga.

As the heat of the certificate issues raged,Mr. Buhari who the certificate issues centered around, granted an interview to Al-Jazeera after that, came the unexpected one with the almighty Christine Amanpour. When he got to the UK where he was billed to speak at a function organised by the Chattam-House, he granted an interview to a british media house. in all the interviews, i noticed a trend but kept quiet. The zenith of it was the speech at the Chattam-House and the question an answer session that preceded it. Last night i read his interview with the BBC.

After watching Mr. Buhari speak at the event and the questions and answers session, my friend said, they did not ask him about his certificate, i laughed, i said to him, have you noticed that none of the international media house has asked him about such issues? He said thats what he observed too. But why?

I told my friend its because the international media outfits sees it foolhardy and meaningless to question the certificate of a man whose profile of attending the prestigious US war college is still on Wikipedia.

A man who Cambridge confirmed sat and took the WASC exam in 1961.

To them its not by Paper qualifications as we have so coveted, that literacy skills is judged your ability to show such literacy skills. If a man does not have a certificate yet he can express himself in sound spoken English and Writting more than many of the so called B.sc, M.sc and even Phd holder, then is it not a surgeon in futility to start questioning his/her certificate.

Above all, to them the main issue now (which should make the where is your certificate hawkers hide their face in shame) is, what does a candidate have in stock for the people, how will he tackle the burning issue of insecurity, fallen oil price, poverty, unemployment, etc.

This is a lesson to the Nigerian Media, who paid too much attention to some mischief makers who made the certificate issue their daily dosage for their worying issues. This should teach them to know when to ignore some of such meaningless and unprofitable beer parlour discussion and focus on the real issues that affect the common man.

This should also be a lesson to the Nigerian populace to understand that its a futile venture to join those whose aim is to divert our attention to the real issues that bites us hard as a nation and join them in search of their lost human dignity and selling of their integrity to half plate of porridge.
