A 21-year old university student can't seem to contain her joy after welcoming a bouncing baby boy yesterday. According to reports shared online, the young lady who was having problems with her boyfriend - got pregnant for him. The man reportedly wanted her to abort the pregnancy, but she wanted to keep it.

According to Emeka who shared the news, the boyfriend, who was a political appointee in Anambra State Government, insisted on abortion. He refused to pay for the highly needed medical checkups unless it was for abortion. He even attempted to deny responsibility for the pregnancy. This made the young lady consider abortion.

Yesterday, the baby that would have been aborted was safely delivered.

The excited mother named the baby Chukwuemeka Mark in order to appreciate the man who urged her along with others not to abort the baby.

1cor 4:6 helps us with the principle of using what is written to guide us before we act. Whatever you hear from Jesus nor Paul shouldn't contradict what the written word told us, do you agree?

We can see how Jesus himself view oral tradition. We cannot stick to oral tradition as if Jesus never had those in his time who stuck to oral tradition. What did Jesus say about it?

Mark 7:13 Thus you make the word of God invalid by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like this

The pharisees believed that there were other commands given to Moses by God, which was not committed to writing. They thus held those tradition to be as inspired as the scriptures. Jesus never quoted any of those traditions as a proof of his teachings. He rather went along with what was written. Tell me, who would have known all the oral words God gave to Moses that was not committed to writing more than Jesus? But how many times do you see Jesus quoting oral tradition and stating, "well, this one is not written, but God told Moses all these"? Or " must all that God require be writing"? Did he even make a case for the oral tradition of his day? Was he not supporting his points from what was written? And even condemning the oral tradition of his day?

Don't you think we should imitated him by sticking to what is written. Whatever is important for us to serve Him and please Him fully is committed to writing. (Compare 2tim 3:16,17)

We all know what a Husband and Wife have been instructed to do right from the Garden if Eden.

The angel did not ask Joseph to take her and protect her, but to take her and do what a husband and wife does.

With these arguments, I will not be surprised to read one day claims that Mary’s Hymen was not broken during the birth process. We may soon read from these people that prior to the conception, Mary never had menstrual cycles and periods.

Haven't you heard Christ say people can chose to be Eunuchs (Virgins) for the Kingdom of God(Mt 19:12)?

And where does the Bible say something must be explicitly written (Sola Scriptura).

Rather Jesus told His apostles he who hears you hears me (Lk 10:16),and in another place he said "go and preach to the world" (Mk 16:15 & Mt 28:19)(not go and write to the world, writing is part of communication not all of communication) .
Mk 16:15 And he said to them: Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
And Paul said in another place whatever you hear from me in Word or in Writing (Phil 4:9),

9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

And 2Tim 2:2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.

The point here is that Christian Tradition does not subsist in what is written alone but includes oral handing over of the message to the next generation and the council of the Apostles(Acts 15 the first council of the Church). The canon of the Bible was accepted over 300AD in one of such councils of the Church.
Now those who lost the oral part of Christian Tradition preach Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone).
The advice is listen to those who have been around for 2000 years and not those who were born yesterday in such matters.
If writing(the written word of God) which is important is the only source of Jesus words. Jesus won't say who ever hears you hears me Lk(10:16). And John 21:25 would not allude to the fact that everything is not written in the bible. How many of the Twelve apostles wrote books (of course we wish they did).


Now food for thought (John 19:26-27)
When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son. and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

Could Jesus take his mother and give to John, if he was not the only Child?

Remember this is the Gospel of John, so John is saying that from that time on (not temporarily), he took Mary now His Mother to his home.
