TolaTosin:What are your driving at really? Jesus said it verbatim that some people choose not marry for the sake of the Kingdom (Mt 19:12) Paul also encouraged it (1 Cor 7:1, 7:7, 7:32) I am proud to belong to Church were you can see these truths practiced. Ask yourself if Jesus said it and Paul encouraged it, why are you attacking it ? Is it ignorance or is there a spirit inimical to Christ inspiring such attacks? |
JMAN05:JMAN05 We have some bodies that have thousands if not million members in the Catholic Church who are led by married people. (Google is your friend). If one should go by your thinking, only adult males who are priests can shepherd God's flock. But that is not the case. We have female, children and youth leaders. The most popular Catholic (most invited speaker) Speaker in conventions in the United States in a married man. Scott Hann. ( http://www.scotthahn.com/ ) |
Blue Agent since you don't believe Jesus is God, it follows that you don't believe Mary is the Mother of God. You should have stated that earlier because the later flows from the former. |
Deenjaris:There is no need for abortion here. The children could be given up for adoption. It is that simple. |
nextstep:No they should rather give up the children for adoption. It is not right to give death sentence to the babies for the sins of their father. Abortion is murder. |
UbiPetrus:It is the same spirit that was disturbing Saul before he became Paul. Saul was irked that people were following Jesus until his eyes were opened. |
Also make sure you have your PVC. We should pray and work. |
sonmvayina:What is your religion again? |
solite3:Is that what the bible said? Mt 27:52-53 again 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. My point here is that there was a business (our Father's business) between many holy people who had died with those who were still alive for they appeared to them. And I want to believe that some would as Jacob when he wrestled with an angel and said I would not let you go, unless you bless me. |
frbona:Were the Isrealites wrong when they bowed/prostrated to towards the Ark ? Is bowing always wrong? I showed an exampl earlier of David bowing towards Jonathan. In summary there is a big difference bowing towards the Ark of the Convenant and Bowing before the Golden Calf. Joshua 5:14 Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?" To answer you question I do no wrong when I greet a citizen of heaven with a bow, while facing their statue. I am not worshiping the statue but greeting the person it represents. |
frbona:I am simply saying that the ark of the convenant had the image of cherubims on it but the ark was an instrument of God's power. The Israelites were not worshiping the Ark when they prostrated towards it. The temple of old had images in them. My response is towards the lady's comment |
solite3:Is there a place for intercession by members of the body of Christ in your understanding of Christianity? (e.g Acts 12: 5 -- So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.) Please consider verse 53 Matthew 27:50-53 New International Version (NIV) 50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people. Even Many Holy people who had died appeared to many people. What is the business of holy people who had died with the living ? Am sure this sounds very Catholic to you ?(Luke 9:28-36 & Luke 15:7) It is all about the communion of saints. Death does not separate the holy ones from Christ or His body the Church. |
doyinbaby:My dear, you left what was addressed. Which is why Jesus called Mary "Woman" and jumped to another topic. Well I would touch the new topic you brought up images. (I hope you would stick to it). On images To understand the our use of images try and consider the Ark of the Covenant vs the Golden Calf, the Ark of the Covenant Vs Dagon (1 Samuel 5:2 ) Joshua 7:6 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the LORD, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads. Question: Was Joshua worshiping the Ark? 1King 7:36 He engraved cherubim, lions and palm trees on the surfaces of the supports and on the panels, in every available space, with wreaths all around. Question: Where these not in God's Temple as put in place by Solomon? On Bowing 1 Samuel 20:41 After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with his face to the ground. Question: Was David worshiping Jonathan? |
donnie:I showed corresponding scriptures Ps 45:17 and Lk 1:48. See bros, The church is the body of Christ and Christ is its head (Colossians 1:18) It should not surprise that the mother of the Head is also the mother of the body (Rev 12:17) And if the Head honours his Mother (Ephesians 6:2), His body(the Church) would do same! " All generations would call her blessed" Lk 1:48. I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever. Elizabeth filled with the Holy Ghost, understood and exclaimed in Luke 1: 42-43 …42In a loud voice she exclaimed, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43And why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? Now this is someone who we all know was truly filled with the Holy Ghost. Some today would be annoyed with honour to Mary from Elizabeth inspired by the Holy Ghost. My dear, it is the plan of heaven that all generation would call her blessed. It is the plan of Heaven that she would be honoured by the Church that is filled with the same Holy Ghost. |
donnie:Compared to God, Mary is less that an atom, but He has been pleased to exalt her (Luke 1:42-52). Who do think David is prophesying about in Psalm 45:10-17. Interestingly compare Psalm 45:17 with Luke 1:48 Ps 45:10-17 10 Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father’s house. 11 Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. 12 The city of Tyre will come with a gift,[d] people of wealth will seek your favor. 13 All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold. 14 In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her— those brought to be with her. 15 Led in with joy and gladness, they enter the palace of the king. 16 Your sons will take the place of your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. 17 I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever. Luke 1: 48 --- for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. |
doyinbaby:Now if really want to know the why He used "Woman". Woman represents her role. if you have a mother who is a warrior! You may chose to call her by more exalted title "Warrior" Genesis 2:23 Adam called Eve Woman. (The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of man). Jesus even has same reason to call Mary so, because His biological make up (flesh&bones) was from her alone (unlike those who have a biological father and mother. Jesus only had a biological mother ). Genesis 3:15 prophesied about another Woman Rev 12: 1 talks about the Woman clothed in the Sun. When Jesus calls her Woman, He is referring to her office. If my brother is a soldier, I may chose to call him Soldier. It is his mission, it would spur him, that is who he is . Woman is an exalted title. Let it be far from you to think Jesus was disrespectful. You know it was God who gave the fourth commandment. Trust me no one fulfilled that law more than Jesus. "Honour your Father and Mother". |
Is your mother the same as your God? Even though she gave birth to you ? That Mary is the mother of Jesus does not make her greater than him? John 1:1 Says "the Word was God" John 1:14 Says "the Word was made flesh" 1 John 4:2 Mary is his Mother. She is the Mother of God simple. If you say she is not the mother of God then, you are saying that Jesus is not God. Just as I started, that mother gave birth to you does not make her your God. |
donnie:Statues are a means of communication. Today we capture images of people by video, pictures and the like. You can as well refuse to snap pictures or refuse to use camera phones because have images of people or to watch TV or even look at your image in the mirror. If impure images (like porn ) could lead people to sin. Does it not occur to you that there would be images that would lift our hearts to holy things, noble things? Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things above. We have images of saints and the apostles also. Just as we have Christian movies that are meant to edify us. Besides God even allowed the shadow (image) of Peter to work miracles (Acts 5:15-16 ) People can get converted by watching a Christian movie or dynamic images if you wish. The statues as simply tools. Just as God can use movies he can use pictures and images. Or rather this pictures can evoke pious thoughts. They are simply images we don't worship them. |
bloodofthelamb:Your problem is ignorance. Even Martin Luther had no problem with devotion to Mary! |
sonmvayina:Nonsense! Go and find out what Satanist think of her. She is the woman of Gen 3:15 and Rev 12. She is their arch enemy. The devil deceived Eve at the garden of Eden but could not deceive the new Eve "Mary". It was prophesied of her that she would crush the head of the serpent.Gen 3:15. |
solite3:May be human participation in God's plan has no place in your Christianity? May be Jesus should have had no need of the apostles as well? May be intercession have no place in your Christianity? |
[quote author=Stanchem post=69907970]Maybe Jesus should have had no need of the apostles as well. May be Jesus is not enough? May Stephen did not have to stoned to death? May be intercession have no place in your Christianity? May human participation in God's plan have no place in your Christianity? |
It is quite interesting that in the picture shared there is a picture of the crucifix. Why not find out what the Church teaches about the communion of saints. If one of your revered pastor comes around, many would turn up to see him/her hoping for some miracle. But when it comes to the mother of Jesus, you forget that the prayer of a righteous man availeth much( James 5:16) Holy Mary, Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen Now about the dead rising--have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'?He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"(Mark 12:26-27) |
Trivia:Who told you, your wife does not love you enough? Is anyone above mistakes? That she got somethings wrong does not mean she does not love you. Nobody is perfect. |
providence338:You don't know anything about the Catholic Church. You have been busy watching conspiracy theorems |
Some people need to go to comprehension class. Would you not one day die (a physical death)? Or those in the new testament don't die |
petra1:James was a brother of Jesus Christ as the bible said. And was also the son Alphaeus. Not son of Joseph. And his Mother was a sister to Mary Mother of Jesus. Hence they were brothers but not biological brothers. |
bloodofthelamb:Ps 90:12 Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 39:4 "LORD, make me to know my end And what is the extent of my days; Let me know how transient I am. Ecclesiastes 7:2 It is better to go to a house of mourning Than to go to a house of feasting, Because that is the end of every man, And the living takes it to heart. |
ikorodureporta:See what Jesus said to Chorazin below Luke 10:13 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. Ash Wednesday emphasizes repentance. And the whole of heaven rejoices when one sinner repents. Luke 15:10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." That you are upset shows the spirit pushing against Ash Wednesday. |
Emmyjah50:Sometimes I wander if people take some moment to reflect independently. What is wrong with repentance? It is only the devil that would not be happy that people are encouraged to repent from their sins. So to urged people to repent is a pagan practice? This reminds me of Jesus been accused of using the power of the devil to drive out devil. Those people were only instigated by the devil. Check well it may be the same instigating you. |
ikorodureporta:Did Jesus come to correct repentance? |
Emmyjah50:There are many verses in the bible. Jesus even quoted Luke 10:13 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. Job 42:6 Therefore I retract, And I repent in dust and ashes." Esther 4:3 In each and every province where the command and decree of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing; and many lay on sackcloth and ashes. Daniel 9:3 So I gave my attention to the Lord God to seek Him by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth and ashes. Genesis 18:27 And Abraham replied, "Now behold, I have ventured to speak to the Lord, although I am but dust and ashes.
