2. Improving the Economy:
As a recession seemed inevitable in 2016 - giving the absence of any savings by previous administrations, falling of the price of oil in the international market, the destruction of Nigeria's oil assets by militants, and the monotonic nature of Nigeria's economy, Nigeria needed a team to steer the ship out of the storm and Prof. Osinbajo provided the lead of this team.

[s] sarrki: ISSUESThe Hypocrisy Of Igbo Political Leaders -By Fredrick Nwabufo Considering the disaffection of a section of the south-east with the Buhari administration and juxtaposing that with those who have been operational in their dissent against the administration, is it not logical that the opposition secure the fort of varied voices by working to extirpate these gag bills? OpinionNigeria Published 4 hours ago on August 30, 2020 By OpinionNigeria Fredrick Nwabufo The so-called Igbo struggle is an enterprise. Individuals from the south-east, who find themselves in position of political influence, hawk the ‘’Igbo agitation’’ as merchandise in self-seeking ventures. These politicians pursue personal gains robed in the collective agenda. And this is largely because of the people who have become addlepated by barbiturated sentiments, conspiracy theories, and nerve-raising nothings.
There are 15 lawmakers from the south-east at the senate and more of this number at the house of representatives, but no single region-centred legislation has reached fruition. In March 2020, these lawmakers in league with their colleagues approved the $22.7 billion loan request of President Muhammadu Buhari unfettered.
But a week after some public-spirited Nigerians raised the alarm that the south-east was excluded in the projects the loan was meant for, these lawmakers in caucuses retreated to playing to the gallery and lacquering their action. They resumed the accustomed showmanship and grandstanding in the face of an obvious fait accompli. Nothing happened afterwards.
Also, most of the lawmakers from the south-east are members of the opposition — the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — but clearly, they have failed in providing leadership in opposition. Some contentious bills were passed right under the stoned watch of these lawmakers. Currently, there are two anti-citizen bills – on hate speech and social media. But these lawmakers do not think they are worth advocating over. These are bills targeted at garrisoning the civic space, the media and the populace.
Considering the disaffection of a section of the south-east with the Buhari administration and juxtaposing that with those who have been operational in their dissent against the administration, is it not logical that the opposition secure the fort of varied voices by working to extirpate these gag bills?
Perhaps, the bills when passed will put a hedge around them – to protect them from minatory probes by their constituents whom they have been remiss in representing. The legislation serves them.
There is now an exhumation of the interred National Water Resources Bill which reposes control of the country’s water resources – both over and underground – in the executive, and which requires Nigerians to get a licence before drilling a borehole (in a nation that cannot provide pipe-borne water for citizens). This legislation, with implications of slavish proportions, is already at an advanced stage at the house of representatives – where there are lawmakers from the south-east — which will be maximally impacted by this bill when passed. This is where Igbo political leaders, particularly those in the national assembly, should be leading the charge. Whatever development we want in the south-east must proceed from the law; so, change must begin from parliament.
Why have I zeroed in on lawmakers from the south-east? Well, because they are the representatives of the people of the region and they form a bulk of the opposition in the legislature. Naturally, they should wear the shoes of the commoner in the region and feel his pain. They should be the voice of the region. They should be in the vanguard of whatever the people are agitating for provided it is within the remit of the constitution. I have no doubt that whatever they set to achieve for the region in parliament, regional and national consciences will be mobilised in support as long as the agenda is not jaundiced.
But these politicians have commoditised the Igbo interest, blaring hot air on issues affecting the region. They know the people are very emotive and unthinking, so they flagellate the usual marginalisation slant and other conspiracy theories to thrust themselves into public consciousness. And they remain there by constantly reinventing the wheel and stroking the people sore with sentimental nothings.
Some unarmed young men were mowed down by guilty bullets in Enugu a few days ago. Though the DSS said two of its operatives were killed in an encounter with some Biafra agitators. This incident, no doubt, deserves a thorough investigation and the culprits punished at the end of a credible hearing. We cannot keep losing citizens to summary executions. I believe this is a matter on which the voice of lawmakers from the south-east should be loudest. They should not only speak up when it is politically convenient to do so.
I have been threatened by these agitators, but I strongly believe it is against natural propriety if my voice is muted out of grudge on this case. Every Nigerian deserves to live; even if there is an offence, the law must take its course. Summary executions are a reprise of the military era; they have no place in a democracy.
Really, the biggest adversary of the Igbo is not the Hausa, the Yoruba or the Fulani, but fiendish leaders of the ethnic group who secrete their interest in the ‘’Igbo agenda’’; who pit the people against their neighbours and other groups, and who flagellate ethnic emotions for insular ends.

[s] Wisdomkosi: Enugu Airport : President Buhari Deserves Commendations By All Nigerians - Sen. Kalu
Former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the successful reconstruction and re-opening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu.
IGBERE TV reports that Senator Kalu who said that President Buhari deserves commendations by all Nigerians also stressed that Buhari is committed to infrastructural development across the country, adding that the landmark projects being executed in the South East by the federal government should be applauded by Ndigbo regardless of political affiliation.
The former governor, while urging Igbo sons and daughters both at home and abroad, to support the federal government in its efforts to reposition Nigeria, stressed that the South East has witnessed robust development under President Buhari.
Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, while hosting a cross-section of professionals of Igbo origin , Kalu noted that President Buhari is determined to sustain investments in critical infrastructure across the country , adding that the welfare of Nigerians is a top priority in the policy thrust of the federal government.
He said, " with the successful completion of the rehabilitation and upgrade of Akanu Ibiam International airport, Enugu, the people of the South East, should appreciate the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in making life meaningful for Nigerians, Ndigbo inclusive.
"I recall when the airport was closed for reconstruction in 2019, some people who play politics of bitterness, were making noise that the project would be abandoned. "Today, I am sure these political jobbers are regretting their utterances as President Buhari has demonstrated his love for Ndigbo, with the timely delivery of the newly reconstructed Enugu international airport.
"With improved facilities at the airport, the capacity of the airport has been strengthened. "The newly rehabilitated airport, upon full resumption of local and international flights, will witness large influx of passengers and commercial activities.
"The economy of the South East has been boosted with investments in key infrastructure like the newly rehabilitated Enugu International airport.
"The federal government under President Buhari has executed many projects in the South East including the Ikot Ekpene-Alaoji-Ugwuaji Switching Station, Nmandi Azikwe Mausoleum, NSIA- Umuahia Diagnostic Centre (NUDC), upgrade of Aba-Itu- Malabar 132KV Line (82km) and other projects.
"There are still ongoing federal government projects including the Second Niger Bridge, Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, Owerri-Umuahia road and others.
"The President is a friend of Ndigbo and as such he has continued to demonstrate his love for Igbo with the landmark projects being executed in the South East.
"Anyone who says the President does not like Ndigbo is being economical with the truth. "The President has friends across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria including the South East.
"I recall during my stint as Governor, President Buhari, was our guest in Abia state. During his visit, he was conferred with a chieftaincy title in my hometown, Igbere and he was equally honoured with a honorary doctorate degree by Abia State University (ABSU), Umuahia.
"The President is passionate about a united Nigeria. He is determined to ensure even development across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
"The Governors of South East despite belonging to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) enjoy a good working relationship with President Buhari.
"The governors alongside other Igbo leaders meet with the President from time to time to discuss issues relating to the development of the South East zone.
"As leaders, we must put sentiments aside and work for the progress of our region and Nigeria at large.
"The time is now for Igbo sons and daughters to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid to achieve the South East of our dream, with the support of President Buhari. Kalu, urged the political class in the South East, to applaud the efforts of the President in fixing infrastructure in the region, adding that the President will not be derailed from his robust agenda to reposition Nigeria.
The former governor, who took a swipe at prepartrators of hate campaign, cautioned politicians not to heat the polity ahead of the 2023 general elections, adding the APC remains united.

Politics › Re: Daily Trust: FFK, The Drug Addled Thug In Designer Wears by MosheDayan: 6:35pm On Aug 30, 2020 |
[s] Stalwert: emi Fani-Kayode, (more popularly known as FFK by the initials of his name) the designer wearing son of Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode, (Fanny power) Deputy Premier of the Western region in the first republic is the perfect example of a pig still being a pig even with a lipstick on.
Yes, he is on record to have attended the high-brow English public school Harrow and followed that up with a law degree from the prestigious University of London and a masters from the world famous Cambridge University.
But if the idea was to mould him in character and training in the best traditions of an English gentleman having attended these institutions of British upper crust society, it has proven to be a waste of expensive English public school education.
His bohemian lifestyle while in the United Kingdom included an addiction to drugs for which he had to seek spiritual and physical rehabilitation in Ghana. But till today he has not been totally cured of that habit which leads him to fits of boorishness, irascibility and thuggish behaviour unbecoming of the status he occupies in Nigerian public life.
Though he likes all too often to take pride in and show off his English public education as a badge of honour, unfortunately FFK does not live up to the genteel and hallowed requirement of an Oxbridger in all he does. In the public space which he courts and hugs for recognition and relevance he is always expected to exhibit his base, yobbish, uncouth manners of an alley cat at persons who are his betters in all parameters of life.
Last week, FFK was at his yobbish worst during a press briefing in Calabar where in response to a question from a Daily Trust reporter Eyo Charles as to who was financing the trips he (FFK) had been embarking on round the country, he let rip at the poor reporter. Suddenly FFK who takes it as licence to hurl volleys of invectives at just about anyone in Nigerian public life had his thin skin exposed. Like a boxer with a glassy jaw, which the gentlest of jabs was all that was needed to shatter his thinly covered veneer of respectability was ruthlessly exposed.
In those few minutes of foul mouthed rant at the reporter for asking the question, FFK sunk lower than the lowliest he had ever been in the public estimation of him. He never had any reputation of worth anyways. But it exposed him as a brittle minded fellow who can give but cannot take and confirmed that he is just a windbag and a self-servicer, worse than the people he all too often vilifies mostly without rhyme or reason.
With his latest oafish behaviour, it is about time FFK met his comeuppance. His verbal assault at the reporter should be seen as an attack at the very profession that provides him with the necessary oxygen and limelight to remain relevant in the Nigerian public space. If he did to a lawyer in the legal profession he belongs what he did to the journalist in Calabar he would have faced immediate sanctions. (Ask Governor El Rufai)
Suffice it to say he is not even reckoned with in the legal profession. Even the so-called “charge and bail’’ lawyers one sees often hanging around courtrooms are likely to have better records of achievement in the profession than him. More Stories Reminiscences with Alhaji Ibrahim Idris Reminiscences with Alhaji Ibrahim Idris REMINISCENCES The Karma called Sahara Reporters The Karma called Sahara Reporters VIEWPOINT Why are the Dutch so Tall? SUNDAY MAGAZINE The power of corporate praying SUNDAY SERMON Ending the cycle of violence SUNDAY SERMON
He is also not a political figure of note in his native Ile-Ife or Osun State even though he tries to present himself as one. He certainly will not win any political contest there. And in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of which he is a member, he is avoided like the plague for his impulsive, self-opinionated, gaffe-prone statements which often put the party in bad light, and which necessitate painstaking damage control measures to mend.
The lout has neither a sense of shame nor gratitude. In 1966 General Yakubu Gowon then as Army Chief saved his father from imminent death by mutinous soldiers when he ordered then Lt Paul Tarfa of the Guards Brigade to rescue and keep him under protective custody of loyal troops. Had General Gowon not intervened the senior Kayode would have almost certainly been dispatched to meet his maker on that occasion by the mutineers. FFK was a toddler then, and only God knows what would have become of him in later life. Yet even General Gowon had not been spared of this loony’s ingrained bad manners. He once issued a scathing, abusive retort to a statement the former military head of state made on the civil war.
That FFK has been indulged in the public space despite all the known and documented instances of his indecorous behaviours is attributable to two factors; he is the scion of an illustrious public figure in Nigeria who literarily was born and fed with a silver spoon, and also because of the fawning, uncritical indulgence of our media which tends to accord undue relevance to persons who went to the type of schools FFK attended abroad.
FFK is fannying around in his family’s shadow and in the inferiority complex of our media who believe that Nigerians who attended Ivy League institutions in America and Oxbridge in the United Kingdom possess uncommon wisdom. It is what makes otherwise vacuous and spastic individuals of his ilk to bask in the public space with a dubious sense of entitlement, advertising their self-importance in the full knowledge that the Nigerian media will indulge them uncritically.
In the aftermath of his intemperate and disgraceful outburst in Calabar, having temporarily returned to his senses and realised that he had gone beyond even the unduly generous allowance the media has given him, he attempted to climb down from his high horse. But it was done in a derisory manner which further reinforces the utter contempt FFK holds journalists and the journalism profession which ironically is the only profession that provides him with a platform to be relevant in Nigeria.
If the journalism profession in Nigeria has any modicum of honour at all it must put this designer wearing, drug addled thug in his place as an example to all who dare to treat it with levity.

[s] Whiteangel1234: Yet to be identified gunmen has reportedly attacked a Police checkpoint at Owelle court, Awgu local government area of Enugu State.
The ugly incident which left a police office seriously injured JOURNALIST101 gathered, happened on Monday, August 24th, 2020 while the officers were on duty in the area.
Our reporter gathered that 2 AK-47 belonging to the officers were carted away by the hoodlums while one of them was greatly injured on the head.
An eyewitness further informed our reporter that the assailants that emerged from the bush sprayed a substance which obstructed the views of the police officers before carrying out the attack.
“What we saw today was like a movie scene, before we know what was happening, there was blood everywhere and the guns of the officers were taken from them. i don’t know the kind of substance they sprayed on them that made it hard for the officers to see. They used a machete to cut one of the officers.
There was a serious confusion in the area and we all scampered for safety as there was blood all over the place,” the witness who craved for anonymity said.
