Infotubia9ja: Good question..
I hope I try to explain this as much understandable as I can for you.
You see all those doctors here in Nigeria right, they are not doctors when the relocate abroad. They get jobs as home care aid to nursing sick people. That is a different occupation far far from practicing as a doctor in America or Canada or UK. Infact you can as well apply to be a home care assistant as well with your university degree from Nigeria which is considered a normal equivalent to diploma here. You just have to pass the nursing exam which I know a 200level university student from Nigeria can read the Q&A and pass as well. What you do is simply take care of old people or mentally unstable people and make sure they don't poop on their self or when they do you change them and also make sure they take their meds regularly and also monitor them so they don't harm their self. Anybody can do that job infact that is equivalent to a factory job if you don't know only this time you be more careful because you handling a human life and can be arrested and you go to jail if you flop because it is stated there in your agreement you sign before you start working.
If you want to be a doctor in these countries, you have to apply for a medical or a nursing program/ degree where you undergo the process from the begining according to the countries teaching regulations and standards, pass the necessary exams, go for your training practice, write another exam if you fail you have to retake it which happens very often because I have friends who it has happened to. Then luckily you pass them you go under the process to be a certified nurse or doctor depending on the field you choose.
I hope you get the point now. Merry Xmas and season greetings. You type lot of nonsense Many Nigerian doctors have gotten jobs directly from Nigeria They just have to write the licensing exams of those countries If they pass, they are qualified to work. |

yes, it is true that Weak naira is good for foreign investors and for nigeria.
but i think this aide does not understand what he is saying when he went on to say that weak naira has made Nigerians stay in Nigeria and Nigerian students stay in Nigeria, is he like saying Nigerians should be POOR and we should not have access to top education in other part of the world.
like he is a President’s Economic Adviser...JESUS
This is the aide biography when you consider the fact that he also studied abroad. it shows that the aide is not intune with reality
Tope Fasua attended London Metropolitan University to gain a master's degree in Financial Markets and Derivatives in which he earned Distinction in 2006. Harvard Business School, University of Groningen, Lonestar Academy, Texas are some of the academic institutions where Fasua has attended executive programs. He holds a Ph.D. in public policy and administration, from Walden University. |

What about policy flipflop of his petrol regime and dollars/Naira, and the negative effect on Nigeria, this guy was spilling rubbish just to justify it, without considering the number of Nigerians that died since then and many businesses closed down. The worst of all are in the area of corruption and security, the man is totally disconnected from Nigerians Bro I am sure you are educated. Imagine he created the poverty as you write down. UK export capacity isn't up to the US and China. London is known for being one of the major financial capital of the world. There are major investment banks in London moving trillions of pounds every day. A country currency sometimes isn't based on production but what is backing it. The UK currency is strong because it is a major financial capital of the world just like Hong Kong and Singapore. The publishers and distributors then sign contracts with the artists. who ever owns the right to the music and masters owns the royalties and most times, it isnt the artist but record label but it is different for an independent artist, they own the rights to their music and earn more money from royalties |

Gerrard59: Nigerians started moving en-mass to Canada in less than a decade. Let's give it time compared to the Chinese or Indians. With the experiences of those two groups, let Nigerians band together to uplift themselves in the Canadian society. One is by being entrepreneurial - building sustainable businesses and owning properties. I was told by a colleague who lived in Canada that the Chinese control Vancouver in such a way that a child could grow up speaking only Chinese and working in Chinese-owned enterprises.
So, Canada is very new compared to the UK with its long history of Nigerian migrants or the US, especially in the second generation. Compared to the Indians, we have performed poorly considering we speak English. This makes us different from the Chinese.
Or probably because they find other places worth visiting rather than Nigeria? There are no numbers to validate such a claim. To state such, we have to consider when these Nigerians emigrated, their residence statuses in their new countries and how long they have lived there. Also, and most importantly, the path through which they emigrated. If most emigrated via visit visa, then yes, they would perform poorly and wouldn't be able to afford to visit home.
But again, we should compare to other groups of migrants, how many Indians, Chinese and Filipinos have the wherewithal to visit their home countries frequently? If the numbers are low, then it means immigrants don't bother to visit where they left off.
This depends on the country, when they migrated and the path of migration. The Canadian model pre-COVID selected Nigerians. The US' GRE/postgraduate model also selects Nigerians.
Your narrative should be towards Nigerians in the UK rather than Canada.
So, it is not a Nigerian issue then. After all, the elite and upper-middle-class Nigerians are a minority in Nigeria. The reasons why Chinese and indians are successful in Canada, has a lot to do with their home country it is the same reason why the chinese and indians are successful in Nigeria. entrepreneuship is big in those countries, these guys bring their skills, cheap labour and wealth from their home country into canada. if it takes 10 years for a nigerian to build a business, it will take them less than 4 years because they employ families as employees, do shady stuffs like avoiding tax and also they do have strong ties back home. (in nigeria, we had similar stuff in faming communities, a farmers marries 10 wives, his 50 children end up working in the farm, making labour cheaper or free, this farmer will get rich very fast over another farmer with 1 wife and 2 children.) the example i gave is how wealth is created among generation of strong tied family members in india and china. wealth is kept within the family. 2. Nigerians do not travel even if they imigrate, they only work and do the rat race. there are no luxury to travel to another country because they dont have the resources or they are too addicted to working. btw, travelling for holidays are damn expensive. 3, Many Chinese go home for holidays than nigerians, the chinese are always going home for chinese new year, infact many chinese are the number 1 tourists in many countries, they travel alot to china and outside China for tourism. Many Nigerians living abroad can not afford the luxury of travelling for holidays like the chinese do. |

Gerrard59: There are countless Africans who have good jobs here based on their skills and backed with experience from their home countries. A few don't even speak Japanese at all. But they have good jobs.
I am the one who works for a multinational company based on my skills from Nigeria and it is the white guy who is heading back to the US because he lacks the skills. In fact, an Indian who works for a tech company was in our midst - someone who just came in two months ago and does not understand a sentence in Japanese. But hey, he works for a tech company and got subsidised housing. The white guy lacks both.
Skill issue, not country. All your talk about white being preferred takes the back seat when it comes to skills and making money. Capitalism is indifferent about the colour of one's skin provided the job can be done by a qualified person.
To be honest, any African who works in factories either lacks the skills or the appropriate working visa. To even obtain the right work visa to work in factories, one has to speak Japanese. This means a Chinese or Vietnamese will oversee a white man. Here, your skills and language take you farther than just the language. The white guy complained about lacking the former while having just the latter. That was the point I was making.
Again, I have seen cases where skill oversees the colour of one's skin. My friend who works in Kyoto and lives very comfortably (poor Japanese proficiency) had the opportunity of getting a $100K per annum remote job while as a student but his lack of the appropriate visa (permanent residency/spousal visa) fumbled everything.
Skills, not skin colour. With the way the Japanee society is organised, i find it hard to believe There are reasons is this, Japanese society so much seperate foreigners from natives, infact many places do not rent apartments to foreigners except if they live in areas where foreigners resides. A big survival skill as a foreigner in japan is speaking Japanese and the chance of you getting a job and not speaking Japanese is low. many foreigners and even americans work as English teachers and infact, they still prefer taking whites or even black americans over an Africa talkless of Nigerians with very bad reputation in Shinjuku and Roppingi. Whites espcially americans are preferrable in Japan, infact majority of the multinationals in japan all have links to american companies, so if you work in non traditional companies in Japan, you can be employed but not as paid as a white or japanese. You can hardly get any job in traditional japanese companies as a foreigner. Capitalism is also about skin colour and how cheap we can pay you and how high we can sell our product to consumers, isnt it why american and europeans companies move production to China and Indian, isnt it why American tech companies outsource everything to India. Cheap labour is the backbone of capitalism. In japan, you do not need japanese language or expereince to work in a Factory, it is one of the most easiest and low paid job to get as an African, nevertheless, you will still be paid lower than a japanese worker doing the same job as you. and lastly, your friend is not telling the truth, no one with years of expereince will believe your friend, a student in Japan got a $100K remote job, nobody will beleive him, even in the US, a $100k job are top earners in the 1% and you need years of expereince to get that talkless of a student. |

Gerrard59: How is whataboutism when there are both immigrants in faraway countries? Are you implying no Nigerians are doing well (career-wise) in Canada? Although, Canada has an issue with country-specific qualifications and experience, but that applies to everyone.
That said, the person I quoted wants Nigerian immigrants to visit home frequently whereas the term - immigrants - means they would likely domicile in their new countries, at least for a long period of time, rather than move back to their home countries. There are many Nigerians in the Atlanta area and Texas. How many times have they visited Nigeria? Does this mean those who don't do so are doing poorly? i never said there are no Nigerians doing well career wise in canada As far as i am concern, it is harder for Nigerians to move up the corporate world in Canada, yeah, there will be 1 or 2 Nigerians in high ranking positions in the corporate world and also in politics but events like that are exceptional cases, they rarely happen. The guy you quoted didnt say he wanted Nigerian immigrants to visit home frequently, he wrote about the affordabilty, that only 1-2% of Nigerians living abroad can afford to buy a ticket back home, he is actually correct. if we look at the bigger pictures, majority of Nigerians abroad are poor and average according to the standards of the country where they reside, less than 1% are doing well but these minority are the ones who make the news. it is just how things works everywhere. |

The very fact that all Nigerians abroad, whether they are washing toilet for a living or on welfare, can still spare money to take care of relatives in Nigeria says it all. Do you also realise that there are also Nigerians sponsoring their relatives in Uk, canada and america. There are many Nigerians in nigeria also paying for school fees for those abroad. there are also Nigerians in Nigeria taking care of their own families abroad. |

Gerrard59: I met an American earlier today who studied Japanese in his bachelor's and confessed that studying just a language isn't a skill. He recommended it should be with another program, not only the language. Man is going back to the US for good because, apparently, speaking Japanese isn't a skill in Japan. The same Japan wey I know many Africans who got good jobs months before they graduated. I supported his decision as the US offered him the best opportunity to make money since he is a citizen and a white man. You have to play to your strengths in life to make it.
It is a skill issue, not necessarily country. yeah! it is not necessarily country but a skill issue why don't you go to japan with your skills and make it. you have no idea about the language, so how do you expect to sell your skill in a country that speak no English and do not accept foreigners. what that white guy achieved in Japan, with only his Japanese degree is more than the achievements of many qualified blacks in japan especially those ones from Africa. many of the qualified africans will end up working in factories while the white guy with only a japanese degree will be their boss. I have seen this scenerio many times. On freelancing sites, a white or asian guy from china or japan will earn *10 more than an african with the same skills and qualification, that is how it also plays in real life. |

It is not a Nigerian or black person concept. There are whites in Singapore who live there for a long time but visit their home countries once in a while. Also, another factor is the reason the person relocated. Expecting diasporans to ALWAYS visit home is very unrealistic. whataboutism. The discussion is about Nigerians and canada not white in singapore or black people. |
