A police corporal, Samuel Okere serving at Ugbodo Division in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State has been arrested by the state Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl. Okere was said to have committed the act in Ugbodo at the victim’s father’s house when she returned from school. The victim’s parents had gone for their teaching jobs when the police officer allegedly committed the act. When the parents returned from work, the little girl started complaining of pains in her private part as she could not walk properly. When the father, Emmanuel Iyiekuna asked the girl what happened to her, she told him that the policeman inserted something inside her. Iyiekuna subsequently went to Okere’s house and he(Okere) allegedly admitted committing the crime but said he only used finger on the girl and did not insert his manhood. He appealed to Iyiekuna not to disclose the matter to anyone and reportedly offered N50, 000 to take care of the victim which was rejected. Iyiekuna later took his child to a nearby clinic where after examining the girl, a nurse told him that the girl’s hymen has been broken. The case of defilement was reported to the state family law centre, a special court in charge of treating such cases and other issues. At the court, the suspect denied having carnal knowledge of the girl. The Chairman of the court, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwali petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, CP Peace Ibekwe over the matter, calling for her intervention and investigation. www.thenationonlineng.net/policeman-defiles-3yr-old-girl/ |

NATIONAL Leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, said that the war against Boko Haram would never end unless Biafra becomes an independent nation. Uwazuruike, who spoke through his Deputy National Information Officer, Mazi Chris Mocha in Nnewi, Anambra State maintained that insurgency would continue to spread if Igbo are not allowed to go to their ‘promised land’. He said the Biafran agitators had nothing in common with Boko Haram or any violent group but maintained that it would be logical and reasonable enough to allow any group in Nigeria like MASSOB that clamoured for self-determination to actualize its dream. Uwazuruike insisted that since the Igbo had insisted to be on their own, the Federal Government has no other option than to allow them go, adding: “We are not fighting for our independence through violence or in violation of the law.” Speaking in Lagos, Uwazulike urged Ndigbo to come together with the goal of speaking with one voice in the common interest of the Igbo race. Uwazulike made call during this year’s annual New Yam Festival organised by Eze Ndigbo of Lagos, Eze Christian Uchechukwu Nwachukwu, Igbo communities and Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the state. At the event, attended by Executive Secretary, Isolo LCDA, Hon. Segun Jubrin,, Senator Oluremi Tinubu who was represented by Executive Secretary Lagos Island LGA, Mrs Omolara, the Iya Loja general, Mrs Folashade Tinubu Ojo who was represented by 20 Iyalojas in the state and Eze Ndigbos in all the LCDAs, Uwazulike declared that right from the pre-independence till date, Ndigbo had contributed immensely towards the development of modern Nigeria through trade and commerce. He said this venture has made them the second most populated tribe after their host community. Meanwhile, MASSOB has said the actualisation of a sovereign state of Biafra will take the Federal Government by surprise despite efforts to hinder it. Director General, Organisation of Biafra Film and Music Industry (OBMFA), an arm of MASSOB, David Eboson, stated this in a release he signed, after the tour of some West African countries for an enlightenment programme for the group’s latest music album entitled: ‘Ihe nwute mere umu-Biafra’. Eboson advised Ndigbo in the diaspora to go for the Biafran international passport as their identity as Igbo |
