Col Ojukwu the founder of biafra died as a Nigerian. He died in the UK after a long illness, aged 78. The Nigerian Army accorded him the highest military accolade and conducted a funeral parade for him in Abuja, his coffin was draped in a Nigerian flag during his burial.
Before his death, Ojukwu ran for President of a united Nigeria.
His wife Bianca after his death was made the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain. His son, Mr Emeka Ojukwu, also contested in the 2015 Federal House of Representatives election in Nigeria.
The war had come and gone. The story of the war and what led to it has been told, is being told and will continue to be told.
What seems to me a human tragedy all through ages is the inability of man to learn a good lesson from the past so as to avoid the pitfall of those who had gone before.
There is also the innate and unconscious desire of man to remain oblivious of the lessons of the past. He hopes and believes that the past can be ignored, that the present is what matters, that no mistakes of the present can be as serious and grievous as the mistakes of the past. As a result history tends to repeat itself. However, there are exceptions of nations and men who had learnt from history to avoid collective and individual disasters or a repetition of such disasters. I feel confident that Nigeria must join the group of these happy exceptions if we are to have political stability, economic progress, integrated development, social justice, contentment and be the epicenter of African solidarity. Since the end of the civil war, Nigeria has made considerable progress in all these areas.

Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari is scaring away investors from the country through his negative statements on the economy.
This is according to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The party said it was worrisome that in the last six months instead of the President making efforts to harness resources and grow the economy, he had labeled Nigerians and portrayed the country as an unattractive destination.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, said the President’s unwary statements had become a serious clog in the wheel of progress, eroding the confidence of both domestic and international investors.
“In the last six months, our President has only succeeded in discouraging foreign investors with his continued misrepresentation of our country as a business unfriendly environment,” said Metuh.
Buhari has allegedly portrayed Nigeria as a country where most of the citizens are basically corrupt, dishonest, and cannot be trusted.
Metuh said the recent announcement to the world that the nation, with its abundant human and natural resources, was broke exposed the ineptitude of the present administration.
“No reasonable investor would have the confidence to invest in a country where the President himself continues to alert that his country reeks of corrupt people and the government is broke to the extent it cannot pay cabinet ministers.”
Femi Adesina, Presidential Spokesperson, lashed at the PDP following the allegations.
“Our attention has been drawn to the latest statement by the PDP spokesman, Olisa Metuh alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari is demarketing Nigeria,” he said.
He said Buhari would remain true to the virtues of honesty, integrity, sincerity, incorruptibility and plain-speaking which endeared him to Nigerians.
“President Buhari will not in the name of “marketing” or “attracting” investors, follow in the footsteps of the ousted PDP Administration,” said Adesina.
He said PDP’s “discredited” officials “shamelessly” lied to Nigerians and the world about the buoyancy and vibrancy of an economy they had bled dry for personal gain.

The Police in Jigawa state have been accused of killing a 200-Level student of criminology Musa Ciroma at Federal University dutse while he was in detention.
He was tortured to death by the Nigerian Police in dutse, jigawa state.

The deceased Musa was arrested with some boys numbering about Six in dutse for fighting on thursday. They were handcuffed and taken to the duste Police Station in jigawa.
By the time his mother and younger brother got information of his arrest and went to the police station on Sunday, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of the station told them, He’s dead.
Three days ago a policeman whose identity is yet to be ascertained, shot a bus driver for refusing to drop the daily amount they usually give policemen, as they (commercial bus drivers) ply that route.
This is coming barely a month after a police Corporal, Museliu Aremu, shot at a tricyclist, Sunday Ebong and killed his wife, Comfort Idongiset at the Ijegun area of the state for refusing to part with N100 bribe.

NIGERIA is a federal constitutional republic comprising of 36states and its federal capital, Abuja. Nigeria as a nation is a constituent of several nationalities.
There are over 250 ethnic groups and the major ones are Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. It is however very disturbing that Nigerians have become slaves to their ethnic origins instead of harnessing these diversities towards national development. Nigerians are fanatics when it comes to ethnicity. It is therefore not surprising for a Nigerian to get angry because he/she is wrongly associated with another tribe. This is not the true reflection of a federal nation. “One of the sociological problems hindering the growth of the nation is an multi-ethnicity”.
In addition, before the coming of the white man, the various ethnic groups were inter- dependent but they did not constitute themselves into one society. It was in 1914 that they were amalgamated. Nigeria is a British creation by uniting the various entities into a single country called the federal republic of Nigeria. Some Nigerians are of the view that ‘’Nigeria is a forced marriage which did not receive the approval of the couples involved’’

Furthermore, whatever is done in Nigeria always has an ethnic undertone be It, politics, employment and provision of social amenities. Tribal affiliations are always very strong and visible. Over the years, since independence there have been cases of ethnic violence resulting from allegiance to one’s ethnic group and this has not worked well for the development of the country. It is very common in Nigeria for an ‘’Igbo landlord’’ to turn down a would-be tenant simply because he is ‘’Hausa’’.
The problem president Jonathan is presently facing within and outside his party, is ethnicity otherwise known as zoning. Most northern elites have said times without number that it is the time of the north to govern the affairs of the country. When politicians lose elections, or are in one political crisis or the other, they tend to devise strategies which will appeal to their people. For example, the recent statement made by a former Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, who has threatened fire and brimstone if Jonathan loses the 2015 elections.
Political parties in the pre-independence era, were based on ethnic factors.

THE African Union Commission (AUC) has unveiled plan to honour All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the “Pillar of Art and Culture in Africa” award.
The award will be bestowed on Tinubu at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2015, scheduled to hold on November 15, in Lagos.
The International Committee of AFRIMA made this known in Lagos while unveiling the activities for the award.

INDIAN PM Narendra Modi Thursday helped President Mugabe break his fall after the 91-year old leader lost balance and nearly tumbled while walking up the podium.
Mugabe was going to greet Modi when he missed a step and stumbled.
An alert Modi immediately stepped forward and extended his hand to hold Mugabe’s before helping him up the podium.
The two promptly shook hands with Mugabe pretending as if all was well.
But soon after the handshake, the Indian leader yet again came to his guest’s rescue as he, with the assistance of two other aides, helped Mugabe to step down the podium.
Early this year, Mugabe missed a step and tumbled as he came down the podium at the Harare International Airport.
Mugabe had just addressed his supporters soon after his arrival from Ethiopia where he had been elected the chair of the African Union.

Awka – Scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), has resurfaced in Awka as its price has gone up to between N110 and N115 in the Anambra State capital and its environs, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
NAN correspondent who monitored the situation on Wednesday reports that most filling stations had “no fuel” sign placed at their gates while a few that had the product had long queues of vehicles.
A motorist, Ndubuisi Okonkwo, who queued at a filling station at Unizik Junction, Awka, told NAN that the increase in pump price of PMS was worsening the bad economic conditions of the masses.
Okonkwo said he had to wait patiently to buy the product as he was not sure of where and when it will be readily available.
Another motorist, who simply identified himself as Donald, said the scarcity was an unfortunate relapse and urged the Federal Government to intervene to save the situation.
“This scarcity, coming when Nigerians are expecting a reduction in official pump price and getting used to the regular price, is uncalled for. The economy is already crunchy and we can’t afford another pain”, he said.
Mr Benjamin Abimaje, Manager at Femas Service Station, Awka, said there was no product because of “the sudden outrageous increase in loading cost.’’
Abimaje said he had applied for product for some days now but the increase in price and scarcity at the depot in Lagos had made it impossible for them to get loaded.
“We do not have fuel. The cost is high at the depot and when you add other charges, it may not land at less than N98.
“It is also biting us because we are not selling, no profit; yet we are incurring loss, we hope it normalises soon”, he said.
Chief Ikechukwu Nwankwo, Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Enugu zone, said the scarcity was real.
Nwankwo told NAN that loading at Port Harcourt depot was ebbing while lots of trucks were on queue at the Lagos depots where the zone largely depended on.

There was tension at the Ajao Estate, Ejigbo area of Lagos, yesterday, following a clash between policemen and some hoodlums.
The hoodlums burnt a stationed armoured tank and a patrol vehicle belonging to the Lagos State Task Force on the Environment.
The clash started at about 7.15pm following the arrest of some motorcyclists around the Canoe axis. It was learnt that the task force officials stormed the area in the early hours of the evening to arrest some motorcyclists and impound their motorcycles.
The motorcyclists reportedly mobilised their colleagues and thugs in the area against the policemen in a shootout.
There were sporadic gun shots from Afolabi Bus-stop in the estate across the Canoe Bridge linking Ejigbo. It prompted other motorists to scamper for safety.
At the time of filing this report, it could not be ascertained if there were casualties but some persons were believed to have been injured.

Senator seeks education for Fulani herdsmen

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has asked Yoruba leaders threatning to secede over the kidnap of former Secretary to the Government of Federation Chief Olu Falae to “shut up”.

Kwankwaso, who is a senator, said at the weekend that the call was misguided and politically motivated.

He stressed that no zone could be an island, adding that what the Fulani herdsmen that were being asked to leave Yoruba land needed was education on how to go about their cattle-rearing business.

He spoke in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital at the weekend as a special guest at the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the set of 1965-1971 of Government College, Ibadan. The event witnessed the inauguration of two sets of pre-fabricated staff buildings donated by Vitafoam Nigeria Plc to the institution.

The former governor said: “The issue of conflict between the farmers and Fulani herdsmen is not common to the Southwest alone. It is not even common to Nigeria. It is all over the sub-region.

“On the issue that we are talking about, education is very important. If all Fulani are given opportunity to go to school, I don’t think they will risk their lives and their animals going into the bush, where there are reptiles. I think the key thing is education. The Fulani should be educated.

“I am a Fulani. My parents settled down many years ago. My father went to school and I have been to school. My children have gone to school. Now, I don’t think I will get cattle and go into a forest; that is education for you.

“The key thing is, whether in the North or Africa, Fulani are all over. They call themselves Fulani in this part of the world. But in other places, they call them different names. So, education is key. They should be educated. They should be settled. Of course, by that, they will develop the modern way of keeping livestock.”

He added: “If you go to developed countries, you don’t see animals running about. It has to do with underdevelopment. If you go to Niger, Chad, Cameroon and all these places, they get Fulani roaming about, endangering their lives, endangering their own animals and it is not good for anybody, the economy and the security. But that is for the future.

“But for today, I think it is important for government to provide facilities because we require their services. Facilities like grazing areas for the cattle and other facilities to make sure that we manage the situation.

“In the North, we used to have all these grazing areas. We used to have cattle ranch, where they go from place to place without going into the farm. Probably because of the population now and other issues, all these places are being taking by farmers. Therefore, it becomes very difficult for any cattle to roam or go to places without going into farms.

“So, it is not only peculiar to the Southwest. We just have to have a lot of understanding of the situation. Some of the issues being raised by the people, especially politicians, do not help anybody. If you sack the Fulani from here or you fight them, maybe it is because you are here. If you are a Yoruba man based in Kano, I don’t think you can contemplate sacking the Fulani.

“I am from Kano, but right now I am in Ibadan. Where you are is your home. Today, Ibadan is my home. God forbids; if something bad happens here, it will affect me. If it happens in my village, I am not there. They won’t see me. But for today, I think it is important for government to provide ranching facilities such as grazing sites, because we require their services.

“It now calls for understanding among Nigerians. To that extent, therefore, politicians should stop over-blowing the issue.

“All Fulani should be given opportunity to go to school. These Fulani should be educated. I am one of them. I am Fulani. Had I not been educated, imagine what I would have been today; I probably would have been in the forest.”

He canvassed a quick return of boarding facilities to all public schools in the country as well as compulsory education for the Fulani.

“This will go a long way in reawakening confidence in the national polity,” he said.

The Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has sacked
Nyesom Wike as the Governor of Rivers State.
The tribunal, which delivered its ruling in Abuja on
Saturday, also ordered that a fresh governorship election be
conducted in the state.
The petition challenging the election of Mr. Wike as Rivers
State Governor was filed by Dakuku Peterside, the candidate
of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the election.
The Rivers governorship election, which was criticised by
local and international observers, witnessed the largest
amount of violence both in its build-up and after the
elections.

A magistrate’s Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has remanded 20 pro-Biafra protesters in prison for alleged treason.
Benson Sunday (21), Emmanuel Ali (25), Ukeme Monday(32), Chibuzo Ezechina (33), Charles Eze (29), Egbo Okechukwu(24), Chibona Ifion (47), John Douglas(20), Ezenwa Alphonus (51), Wori Endurance (30), Chinomere Nwolu (25), Henry Eze (36), Friday Uzunwa(22), Igodo Abio(34), Akaniyene Uwem (22), Eni Iboro (27), Obinna Stephen (26), Monday Ocha (37), Obinna Ibekwe (27), and Kingsley Ezengorie (24) were arrested for destroying the Nigerian flag and chanting hate songs during Tuesday’s protest in the Garden City.
The three-count charge against them reads: “…On October 20, 2015, at about 2pm, on Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt, the suspects and others now at large, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: treason and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 37(2), of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.
“… On same date and time, did without lawful authority, demonstrate and chant war songs that Hausa is not part of Biafra, which caused panic in the neighbourhood, instilled fear on reasonable grounds with intent to intimidate or cause panic within the state and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 37(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.
“…All the suspects and others now at large at the same place and time, did wilfully and unlawfully damage the Nigeria flag which was hoisted at Zenith Bank Plc, Ikoku branch in Port Harcourt, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004.”
Their plea was not taken.
Chief Magistrate S. D. Andrew-Jaja refused their bail application, saying that he was not convinced by their counsel’s argument that he could exercise such powers.
He adjourned the case

A New York City police officer died after he was shot in the head while chasing a gunman in East Harlem on Tuesday, the authorities said.
The officer, Randolph Holder, 33, a Guyanese immigrant and a police officer for five years, was the fourth killed in the line of duty in the past 11 months, the police commissioner, William J. Bratton, said during an emotional news conference early Wednesday. A suspect was in custody, he said.
Officer Holder and his partners were responding to reports of gunshots around 8:30 p.m. when they encountered a man riding a bicycle on East 120th Street on a pedestrian path over Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive. Gunfire was exchanged, and Officer Holder was struck in the head.
He was taken in critical condition to Harlem Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:22 p.m Commissioner Bratton said.

Lagos State government said yesterday it had commenced the process of reviewing school curriculum with a view to having tailor-made and purposebuild tablets for students. The state Deputy Governor, Dr Idiat Adebule, who made the disclosure, also challenged education stakeholders in the state to begin the review of the curriculum to align with the system. Adebule, who now oversees the state Ministry of Education, made the call at an inaugural meeting with management and key stakeholders in the education sector. She added that the need to embark on the review of school curriculum was also informed by the need to align the content of the curriculum with the immediate and future needs of the state.
According to her, the review of the curriculum is crucial as the content of. education curricula actually determines the quality of the manpower that will eventually be produced from such action. She said: “I want to meet with private school owners in the state.
I believe that there must be a review of the standards used to measure them and any private school that is not ready to abide by set standards will be shown the way out.” Adebule stressed the importance of instituting competitions for teachers in different subject areas especially core subjects like Mathematics and English among others.

Moscow – Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Moscow’s intervention in Syria demonstrates it can counter any threats, as the Kremlin flexes its muscles on the world stage.
“The operation has confirmed that Russia is ready to adequately and effectively respond to terrorist and any other threats to our country,” Putin said in a speech to military and intelligence commanders at the Kremlin.
Moscow says it has hit some 500 “terrorist” targets since launching a bombing campaign in Syria on September 30 in support of ground offensives by the troops of long-standing ally President Bashar al-Assad.
The United States, which is leading a separate bombing campaign in coordination with other Western and Middle Eastern states, has meanwhile accused Russia of mainly targeting more moderate rebel groups battling Assad.
Russia is locked in a broader standoff with the West over the Ukraine crisis, with ties plunging to their lowest point since the Cold War after Moscow seized Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula in March 2014.
Inside the country, security forces, which have battled Russia’s own Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus, thwarted 20 terrorist acts, killed 112 militants and detained 560 more over the past year, Putin said.
“We need to keep acting just as energetically and effectively,” Putin said.
Russia is increasingly wary of its citizens fighting abroad and has claimed that around 2,000 of them are among the ranks of the Islamic State jihadist group in Syria and Iraq.
Al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate Al-Nusra last week called on jihadists in the Caucasus to attack Russia in retaliation for its air strikes in Syria.
Putin said that it was “critically important” to expose the ties between Russian militants and international terrorist groups and their backers.
